    Brian you are spot on. I hunt blacktails in the mountains and watched closely the weather patterns this past month.
    A big storm pushed them down and I saw lots of 3 and 4 points. Then I go back after a thaw and none to be seen.
    Go up high and full of tracks up there. Another big storm and down they come again.
    Tracks in the snow are the great revealer.

    Absolutely moonlight is no bueno. We just experienced this the last two weeks. Moon is now gone and animals are coming out everywhere…

    There’s a old saying in survival training that says, The more you know the less you need.. but at 60 I like my comfort so yes my pack is always heavy going in and if iam lucky very heavy going out multiple trips.

    Brian, this is awesome! Been following all your podcasts and videos for a while now. I live on the Pacific Coast in northern california and typically hunt exclusively blacktail unless I get a draw tag. I love watching all of your mule deer hunts and podcasts for the information. I have a couple questions. First, how much can I actually apply from what I learn in the mule deer podcasts to the blacktail and be successful? and 2nd, Would you consider doing any more blacktail podcasts/hunts in the future?
    Thank you and best of luck on the rest of your hunts - Kempton Brandis

    You mentioned hunting with camp on your back. How difficult is it to break down the Cimmarron/Stove combination quickly in the morning? It seems like it might be a pain between condensation on the tent and ashes in the stove. Good luck on your Mule Deer hunt!

      Well we usually start a small fire every morning because its nice to get ready in a warm tent so the condensation isn't much of an issue. The stove cools down pretty fast and you can just shake the ashes out. If you're by yourself maybe 15 minutes. If you got a hunting partner maybe 5.

    Hey Brian, what are your top book recommendations for someone looking to become more knowledgable about nature and the outdoors?

    How would you handle hunting in a full moon environment, where you are forced to due to season dates. Would you be on a glassing knob at first light and it last night and stay stationary mid day or cover a lot of ground during the day? Thanks!

    Glad you are able to share this hunt with us! Is the permit retroactive? I know last podcast you said you had some footage but couldnt share until this debockle was over. Just curious thanks for all the info! Go get em

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  3 роки тому

      No they will not issue a retroactive permit. We basically can't share anything from September through oct until the law is changed or we go to court to be able to share it. Not sure if we'll ever be able to share it. it's a bummer but that's life. we course corrected and found some hunts we should be able to get some permits for and we're hoping to start dropping footage in DEC. Thanks for question Mitch, stay gritty.
