I always go back to watching gear videos for season, gets me fired up and always a little reminder what needs to be brought. You know how we always get stuff during the off season so this keeps me in check lol keep the videos coming I'm sure I am not the only one who does this
Pack weight w/4 litre water: 52lbs 8.2oz Total worn weight (clothes, binos, rangefinder, harnesses, trekking pole) 8lbs 1oz Total weapon weight(carried in one hand) 9lbs 8oz Grand Total for 10 days: ***70lbs 1.2oz***
Getting ready for 2019 Colorado September elk archery. Doing a gear checklist. Super pumped! Thank you for the list. Your med bag, meals, and arrow weights helped me make some decisions about what I already have to begin checking my prep list. Plus I like your wind pants. This is my first western hunt and I bought some Sitka gear with a layering system but I already had gortex rain gear with wind block so I like not having to sweat hiking too and I’ll wear my pants glassing hopefully too. Still looking at sleeping systems. I have a 0degree sleeping bag but need to decide on a pillow and mattres system or foam roll for insulation. Lots of options out there. Thank you for the great video! Love you guys at GoHunt and you videos from optics to gear and cinematography. Keeps me motivated and prepping physically and mentally for the harvest. One last thing. I’m looking at boots. Kenetrek seems to keep getting a big push. Should I consider other brands? I see you like la sportiva. Can I go wrong with any of the popular brands? Thanks for the video(s)! P.S. I shoot a Halon 32; love it!
Haven’t always carried a bugle?? Living and hunting in Wyoming, a bugle is one of my absolute necessities. Cow calls are great and all that, but tell you what, wake up about 4 am, Drive or walk around, and bugle every couple of miles. Mark on your map where you heard those bugles, and you’ll start the day with a lot better luck.
Great video! I enjoyed using my Trango Cube GTX in AZ, but they only lasted one trip. The sole was devoured by the volcanic rock. Good luck on your hunt.
There are a lot of things you can do with a mixture of cardio and weight lifting to help prepare you for the mountains. Here are some articles on our site that will help you learn more: www.gohunt.com/tag/fitness
If you're looking for a great tarp + bivy combo checkout Borah Gear. Not sure of the dimensions of the RAB but the Borah is 7x9 and comes in at $98 and just 9.5oz. And great bivy options in both DCF and Sil. You can come in under 1lb easy without breaking the bank. Love that you're counting ounces, I cringe every time I see Trent from BRO with his Crocs hangin' from his pack ;)
One more: Do you have experience with the Kuiu gear? I'm getting ready to move back out West to Wyoming from MS after being gone for more years than I should have been, and am looking for gear that will serve me well in the early to mid seasons. I'm really drawn to the Kuiu colors and the way they look like they fit, but I hear both good and not great things about them, and I'm looking for something with a bit longer torso (maybe midway down the thigh). Safe travels, man. I love the channel. I can't wait to need some cold weather gear again.
Rupert Medford there is a link in the description that will take you to his article where he list all those specific weights! www.gohunt.com/read/skills/trail-kreitzers-2018-wyoming-archery-elk-hunting-gear-list
I'm still running the SE model which does not have the GPS feature, just satellite communication. If I upgraded to the Explorer I could likely get away with packing just it because it does function as a GPS and a messenger. I don't think it's ever a bad idea to have a back up though especially when hunting new country. Phone with OnX and a GPS is a nice combo too. - Trail Kreitzer Research Manager & Gear Expert
Planning to start hunting with camp on my back like I've seen you all do, so going to be purchasing a lot of gear. Roughly how much is that setup minus bow, boots and optics?
There are a lot of good products out there plus everybody's setup is different so the end price can vary! But here is a rough estimate of the main things you will need to start backcountry hunting. This does not included the miscellaneous gear (food, first aid, toothbrush, tools, etc.) : Pack-$450 Cook System- $150 Sleep system /w tent- $700 Water filtration- $200 GPS/Mapping- $400 Total rough estimate price= $1,900
@@GOHUNT thank you for the reply! I really appreciate the estimate and informative list. Been a little overwhelming trying to figure out what to purchase and where to start, so this is super helpful.

Hey David. Both Trail and his son shot bucks last year on that hunt. Trail said it was a fun hunt, definitely had to work to find bucks, but still a really great hunt.
I wore it a bit before I left and I didn't feel like the fill rate/weight was going to end up being warm enough for that trip. I made a judgment call in the end and went back to my Black Diamond Cold Forge Hoody, which is on the heavy end (21oz) for a packable insulation piece but I love that jacket. I love the fit, it's a little more streamlined and has a longer torso and sleeves and it's warm. Always on the search for the perfect down, I think the Stone Glacier Grumman is very intriguing at 5.3 oz of 850+ Fill and a total weight of 11.8oz. Spec wise it's pretty much perfect for what I would consider a good down insulation piece. - Trail Kreitzer Research Manager & Gear Expert

That is the great thing about hunting or backpacking. Any gear list will work and you can always modify it over the course of several years like Trail has.

Headed to Wyoming Monday. Didn't think i could be any more excited but this got me fired up. Good stuff.
Best of luck to you Brody!

Have you tried lighted nocks? They really help follow the arrow to impact....like a bullet tracer.
Did you mention total pack weight? Food per day weight? Wouldn't include what you wear, binos, bow, boots, etc.

So a bit late but my question is this. Where’d you get that t shirt. I want one!!!
It's an old Mathews shirt!
goHUNT can I have yours then? Haha. Jk. Cool man. Enjoy the vids
Now that it’s been a while. Can you let us know what bivey that is?
Any idea when the new bivy will be available? Thanks
He’s had good luck with all of his gear... 😁
hahahahahha!

Why do you run 2 gps devices? What does your other device do that your In-reach cannot do?

Can you tell when will OR release info on that Bivy? im in the market for a bivy right now.
Not exactly sure when they will hit the market, but I would guess within the next couple months of the new year.
Not sure exactly what features you're looking for but check out the Enlightened Equipment Recon and Borah Gear has several options.

Yes, they are the Premier Plus V-Bar stabilizers.

You scared me a little bit the way you were playing with that broadhead 😬
haha hey you don't know if you have a good broadhead until you get cut ;)
😄😄😄 I've got the scars to prove that! #wenzelwoodsman
Do you not carry a firearm with you in the woods? I don't think I could ever walk into the woods without a handgun. I don't think I ever have.
Depends on where I am hunting. If there's a history of Grizzly's in the area, then I pack a handgun. - Trail K
@@GOHUNT I live in Mississippi. We have meth labs here. Guns go in the woods.
Who doesnt pack extra socks? Wearing the same socks over and over for 10 days will mess your feet up
Check out ZipStitch. Also Swat-T...God forbid! Safely first!
So you're a lucky man.
Must be sponsored by sitka.

Great vid but all that gear is too expensive for most.

Good luck with that filter the second those are in cold weather they are worthless
Tylenol PM is not good for you. Take a more natural melatonin to get you to sleep.
Not sure how I end up here but damn❤ he is hot
LoL 😂 sounds more like you're a salesman for Sitka gear. Nice clothes but too expensive and too bright.
