    Glad you tacked a new term onto an old idea. “Buy more to save more” was a store slogan a while ago. As new consumers enter the space there are just shinier ways to package the trick.

    I learned to say 'no' to spending more when I was a single mother. I made sure my daughter had what she needed but worked around spaving to be able to provide. For instance, I got a part time job at Blockbuster's and got 5 free rentals each week. But, other than paper towels, toilet paper and Kleenex, I don't buy bulk.

    • @MelissaThompson432

      But I get it. I have been broke enough to buy 4 Advil for $1.39 instead of buying 50 generic ibuprofen for $1.99 because I just didn't have the extra $.60. And I probably had to shove my hand down in the dark crevices of my car to find what I did have....

    • @DonoVideoProductions
      @DonoVideoProductions Місяць тому

      @@gemmeldrakes2758 Yes, because that is what our economy has evolved to. We don't NEED to be a conspicuous consumer system. But the corporations that be have gotten so fat off of "sell sell sell," that we can't even fix our TVs any more. They make more money selling a new one, and so we trash perfectly good merchandise. Gotta have the next iPhone, and Microsoft and Apple have planned obsolescence as their business model. They have to make billions instead of just hundreds of millions. It's not sustainable, and we know this deep down...but we keep racing to the cliff's edge.

    You should only spave on items you really really need:
    Emergency food items (water&cans/powders)
    School/office supplies
    Batteries & bulbs
    Toilet paper
    Detergent/bleach
    ....these are items that most households buy and when you buy in bulk, the cost is much lower. And then you can just make a huge order a few times in the year.
    But for the everyday, make a shopping list and stick to it, if you can do that then you're ahead of the game. Plus coupon clipping is VERY worth it! Trying to spave in the everyday is a sure way to buy things you don't need.
    And speaking of buying things that one doesn't need, i would love some research on the correlation of making a list to go to the supermarket and obesity.

    This is how I do it. Things I know I would have bought before, I pass on now. Why buy it just to donate later (my place is sparse, but that's the way I need it to be). Whenever I do decide to buy something, I'll start adding up prices on all the un-bought things I didn't buy that day, week. When the totals add up to the price of the thing I did buy, the thing I bought is free! And not only do I keep my space free of stuff, I'm saving money too! Whatever, I'm bad at math anyway😉.

    Why can't people perform simple arithmetic? It's obvious that "spaving" is a ripoff. Paying half for a second item, when you only need one, is a sucker bet. If a notebook is a dollar, paying "only" 50 cents more for a second item means you spent more money, not less. You didn't "save"anything. You lost 50 cents.
