Mark it down: on July 19, 2017, Dan officially rescinded his opinion that Terminator 3 is a better movie than Terminator 1. While playing Super Mario Sunshine.
To this date this is the first time I take into consideration the possibility that Dan was consciously trolling. I vividly remember where I was when I first listened to this episode and I also remember thinking: "God, they've hired a brick"
To Kill A Moa Bird there's also been something lightly cathartic about watching them play Sunshine and seeing Dan have to start admitting the game is not as great as he always insists 😝
The real reason why Jeff just went solo as Dan came back is because without anyone else there to stop this, it would have ended in Jeff likely killing Dan live on air.
I've come to really love the weird dynamic between Dan and Jeff. They remind me of the kind of friends who argue all the time but still love hanging out.
T1 and T2 are both fantastic movies for very different reasons, much like Alien and Aliens. Depending on a person's mood and tastes preferring T2 over T1, or vice versa, is perfectly reasonable. Terminator 3 was just hot garbage and Dan is a madman
I agree, I get the feeling that most people that prefer T1 over T2 probably like Alien more than Aliens. I happen to enjoy Aliens more than Alien, Alien has pacing problems and the Alien looks at times wrong, I like the more compact design of the Aliens in the 2nd movie.
Odd that you say that. I thought that the pacing was one of the greatest strengths of Alien. It takes forever to get going, but during that time it's building up unbearable anticipation, tension, and anxiety. Makes my buttcheeks get super clenched. I will agree that the Xenomorph looks a little inconsistent in Alien, though. At times it looks incredible and at other times you can totally tell that it's a man in a suit. Hence why I think the film works best when you can only see glimpses of the Xenomorph or when you can't see it at all.
If Dan Rykert loves Terminator 2 so much, he should REALLY hate Terminator 3, given that Terminator 3 pretty much renders Terminator 2 completely moot. T2: "No fate but what we make." T3: "LOL NEVER MIND"
I don't think it really does render it moot. If anything, T3 is more a comment that humanity is prone to keep making the same mistakes. We stopped one catastrophe...doesn't mean we won't cause a different one though. Hence there is no fate but what we make.
Terminator 2 is one of the best movies ever made. Terminator 3 is essentially just Hollywood throwing a hissy fit at James Cameron for not wanting to make another one, deliberately fucking up the storyline from 2 to enable them to make more sequels. It goes 2, then 1, then 4, then probably 5, which hasn't even come out yet, and *then* 3.
Whether or not I agree with what he's saying, Rykert is a fucking breath of fresh air. I love Giant Bomb, but Dan's optimism and energy is something I've been pining for a while. Not just because I prefer his taste in games. And I'm totally with him on Sunshine.
Totally agree with you on Dan. He's a lot more interesting than his boilerplate tastes (3 favorite franchises: Mario, Zelda, MGS. Variety!) might lead you to believe.
Had to listen to this again, having watched Dan revisit the game with the GBeast crew. Jeff could not have foreshadow all the things that have gone wrong so far any better.
I love how Jeff brings up the one G.I. Joe episode that I remember the most because of how insane it was. *SQUAWK* "Remember that time in Reno?" "Okay, I believe you're real!"
I remember these early days of Dan. It was a perfect show for this short time. Then he was transferred to the East and nothing would achieve this greatness again.
I love how the conversation moves to Mario, and then Dan says Mario Sunshine is better than Mario 64 and Jeff instantly jumps back to the superiority of The Terminator.
T1's my favorite of the two. A few reasons: A) Sarah/Reece chemistry is off the charts B) It's a gritty sci fi movie grounded in the realm of believability.
Does anyone remember the podcast where Jeff says anytime is too long for watching The Rock. It's defiantly an earlier episode if anyone could help me out.
God, I love those early Dan Bombcasts where everyone would be incredulous at the things coming out of Dan's mouth at least once a week. That said, I also think Mario Sunshine is a really good game. If you ignore all the bullshit like Blue Coins, the pachinko level, The Great Watermelon Festival, etc. So like 70% great, 30% BS.
And Jeff isn't? dislikes Yoshi's Island AND JP? I think the fucker just hates dinosaurs. Jeff, if you ever see this. PAX Prime. Me and you behind that starbucks near the convention center. Fists only, no shirts. We'll both feel better afterwards.
I fucking lost my shit when he said Terminator 3 was better than 1. I was in bed had to sleep to go to work, I had to listen to the rest of this, it was a long night and next day at work.
Yeah I feel confused. For many years I’ve heard about how T2 is amazing and the best and I watched terminator and then T2 the following night. And T2 is good but I like Terminator better I think. I loved the future scenes in T1 that T2 really didn’t have also the kid John Connor kind of sucks
Terminator 2 has a subplot about a Terminator learning what it means to be human, to feel emotions, to cry, etc. Yeah, teenage john connor slinging outdated edgy one liners and shit is kinda corny, but holy fuck did i feel a ton of emotions from that subplot climaxing with the terminator sacrifing himself and saying "i now know why you cry"
The Terminator is superior to Terminator 2 in every possible way. The Terminator is a scary as fuck, dark, gritty, violent 80's sci-fi horror movie. Terminator 2 is a hugely overrated movie that is directly responsible for the "triology-ification" of all movies. Fuck Terminator 2.
Wait... Terminator 2 is responsible for studios wanting to make trilogies? How do two movies with no hint or promise of a follow up start a run of trilogies? But stepping past that, here are some trilogies that came out before T3 was close to being a thing (with some of them made even before T2 was released): Star Wars original trilogy, Indiana jones original trilogy, Romero's original Dead trilogy, the Mad Max movies, the Scream franchise. Die Hard 1 and 2 came out before T2 - you could just as easily argue that was responsible for trilogies being a thing. Hell, even the Austin Powers trilogy was done and dusted well before T3 came out. Meanwhile, the Terminator movies had a 12 year hiatus before a half-baked third instalment that the creator never wanted got puked out. In related and totally unsurprising news, you bet your butt I love Terminator 2. But I love The Terminator as well. That's like saying Aliens is a shit film because Alien was so different (although some people do argue that, and I don't follow it either). I don't see why it has to be an either/or situation; T1 and T2 are both great takes on the potential of the fiction and premise.
buzzclikverifyme Perhaps I should clarify, I wasn't trying to imply that Terminator 2 was responsible for the outpouring of Trilogy franchises in the movie industry as much I was commenting on the fact that it was responsible for the success of blockbuster big budget movies and thus signaled the death knell of unique science fiction movies that were creative and often low budget, like The Terminator. Movies like the Terminator rarely get made anymore, and I think this is directly attributable to the huge success of Terminator 2. And if you listen to Jeff's opinions on the movie and movies in general I think this was more his point and I agree with him.
I wanted to watch G.I. Joe so bad when I was a kid but it was on cable and we only had the terrestrial channels which were Swedish Public Service Channel 1 and 2 (SVT1, SVT2) and later on one commercial channel TV4. I did however have a VHS with some episodes of M.A.S.K and the intro theme for that show is FUCKING AMAZING!
It took me 10 years to realize the poster here says “Here’s a Truck” lol
Dan - "It's better than one"
Jeff - "that what FUCK god what"
LOL
Mark it down: on July 19, 2017, Dan officially rescinded his opinion that Terminator 3 is a better movie than Terminator 1. While playing Super Mario Sunshine.
was this on the Beastcast? I need to hear it
I second this, I need recorded evidence of this revelation of his.
"Terminator one could fucking HAPPEN man."
Amazing.
to date, Dan is the only man who can troll Jeff hard enough to make him fan-boyishly angry.
+Dee Kay yep and I love him for it.
i mean, he picked his battle on this one. t2 is fucking amazing

After 3 years, do you still think Dan is actually trolling?
"Gritty-fucking-rock-hard murder" is one of the best things I've heard leave Jeff's mouth.
+Preston Dean i want it on a shirt
"THE WHAT
FUCK GOD DUH WHAT?!"
i never get tired of hearing that

"You hired this guy"
Drew's timing is _impeccable_
The real reason why Jeff just went solo as Dan came back is because without anyone else there to stop this, it would have ended in Jeff likely killing Dan live on air.
Truth.
"SAVE US! SAVE US BRAD!" is my favorite utterance Drew has ever made. There's just something magical about it.
"Sunshine is good. Better than '64."
...
"NO IT FUCKING ISN'T GODDAMMIT"
I'm dying.
Dan's first few months on the Giant Bombcast will not be matched.
I will forever appreciate just how great the sentence "Terminator one could fuckin' happen, man" is
I come back to this once a month
i come back to listen to this way too much
Hahah, same!
Lolll same xD!!!
I miss when they had this kind of energy
Gritty. Fucking. Rock Hard. Murder.
Dude I miss this era so bad😂
Me too man, been giving the old clips a listen again
"SAVE US! SAVE US, BRAD!!"
This video is on my favorites list. Been watching it occasionally for yard. Just now noticed the poster says "Here's a Truck."
I've come to really love the weird dynamic between Dan and Jeff. They remind me of the kind of friends who argue all the time but still love hanging out.
Fucking love Dan and Jeff and their whole dynamic.
'Terminator 1 was a good 8.5'
Dan really should've said 8.8
The original Terminator is "gritty fuckin' rock hard MURDER" lol
T1 and T2 are both fantastic movies for very different reasons, much like Alien and Aliens. Depending on a person's mood and tastes preferring T2 over T1, or vice versa, is perfectly reasonable.
Terminator 3 was just hot garbage and Dan is a madman
Alien is better than all of those by a mile, though
I agree, I get the feeling that most people that prefer T1 over T2 probably like Alien more than Aliens. I happen to enjoy Aliens more than Alien, Alien has pacing problems and the Alien looks at times wrong, I like the more compact design of the Aliens in the 2nd movie.

CaptainMorganThe3rd yeah, I'm thinking of the part in Alien when the Xenomorph picks up...someone with two hands and it looks really bad.
If Dan Rykert loves Terminator 2 so much, he should REALLY hate Terminator 3, given that Terminator 3 pretty much renders Terminator 2 completely moot.
T2: "No fate but what we make."
T3: "LOL NEVER MIND"
I dont think dan thinks in terms of thematic elements.
Even though his major is film study ...
@@MSUHitman You know he's proud of never going to class.
I don't think it really does render it moot. If anything, T3 is more a comment that humanity is prone to keep making the same mistakes. We stopped one catastrophe...doesn't mean we won't cause a different one though. Hence there is no fate but what we make.
It's like a Universal Studios ride... such a great line.
Jeff anticipated Martin Scorsese's opinion on Marvel movies
I liked Terminator 3 as an action flick, and I liked the ending.
But better than 1? Bullshit.
Terminator 2 is one of the best movies ever made. Terminator 3 is essentially just Hollywood throwing a hissy fit at James Cameron for not wanting to make another one, deliberately fucking up the storyline from 2 to enable them to make more sequels. Dan gets Jeff to care again, and that's magical. He's slowly becoming early Jeff again.
Mario Sunshine is a giant steaming pile of rainbow colored shit.
It's Ryckert fucking headline titles brainwasing people's mindsets his popularity fandom on GI would defy you jk
"This is G.I. Fuckin' Joe man, it fuckin' goes!" I love it.
it is 1130pm I just got the news about gerstman listening to this to take a trip down memory lane
This is why they made Dan move to New York.
I wish they had video for these great debates
It would just be Dan waving his arms around while ranting, and Jeff silently filling out the paperwork necessary to fire Dan.
3:41 Its better than 1. Oh god.
6:40 Sunshine is better than 64
this is fax doe
NOW YOU'RE JUST LYING TO PEOPLE
Had to watch this again after the live Beastcast referenced it - this was such a fun era of the bombcast. Definitely gonna watch Dan play the T3 game.
15:32. Drew got away with saying "penis"
I've watched this several times, and I just now realized the tagline says "Here's a Truck"
Dude me too lmao
The unsung quote of this entire clip is Brad's befuddled "What... the fuck" when Dan said he never had tea before.
this is maybe my favorite thing on the internet
3:39 This is where the Jeff/Dan dynamic really clicked for me.
Brad: "Who the fuck are you?!"
He's YOU, Brad
3:45 always fucking kills me.
Had to listen to this again, having watched Dan revisit the game with the GBeast crew. Jeff could not have foreshadow all the things that have gone wrong so far any better.

"Okay, I believe you're real!"
"Breath mint vs Candy mint"
Best ep of GI Joe and the only one that stuck with me through thirty years or whatever it's been.

and we took it for granted too :'(
@@dennismoore56 and now...well.

I was on board with Dan saying T2 is better than T1 because it is but when he said T3 was better than T1 he completely lost me.

Yet the only vehicle in the poster is a motorcycle...
I love how the conversation moves to Mario, and then Dan says Mario Sunshine is better than Mario 64 and Jeff instantly jumps back to the superiority of The Terminator.
Damn it. I’ll be back one year from now. Rip giant bomb. I love you
T1's my favorite of the two. A few reasons: A) Sarah/Reece chemistry is off the charts B) It's a gritty sci fi movie grounded in the realm of believability.
I kind of love Brad's high pitched "WTF" moments more than Jeff's rants
Does anyone remember the podcast where Jeff says anytime is too long for watching The Rock. It's defiantly an earlier episode if anyone could help me out.
Longetevity. As per the rule of Dan, that's now a word.
It's funny that Dan's opinions on Terminator 3 and Sunshine have changed in these years.
God, I love those early Dan Bombcasts where everyone would be incredulous at the things coming out of Dan's mouth at least once a week.

Dan works best when someone is there to hard disagree.
I agree....wait, shit!
"No one has ever said Blow is their Terminator 3."
Dan “ I’ve never had tea in my life “ Ryckert
Not that I value Dan's opinions, but keep in mind that Gerstmann thinks that Alien sucked and Event Horizon was way better.
Jeff on the right side of history
Dan is out of his damn mind
