    When my mother died in 1997 we took the ferry from Dauphin Island and spread her ashes in Mobile Bay.

    It was a pleasure when I and my family took the ferry. I'm 60 and will always remember.

    For you history buffs, the Battle of Mobile Bay was fought in this area. Farragut declared " Damn the torpedoes!! Full steam ahead." There's a reason Fort Gaines is directly across from Fort Morgan.

      I wish some of the history buffs that knew the history of all these forts would tell the history and show these places of Mobile from beginning to present.

    Hey Greg, GREAT video. Please pass on the intentions of the Dauphin island politicians to outlaw short term rentals. Please call anyone you can think of that may help saving the islands commerce. As you know, the short term rentals bring the revenue to the island.

    Hi!
    About how long does the ride take?
    Seems like you were one of the first ones on. Did it take 30 minutes to load up the ferry?

    • @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL
      @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL  4 роки тому +4

      Loading was pretty fast, maybe about 10 minutes. The ride itself from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island takes around 40-45 minutes one way.

    Love this video! We were on Dauphin Island today, lunch at Pirate's Bar & Grill. It was just a lunch trip with friends from Gulfport. We enjoyed it so much we'll go again.

    what do they do with the ferry during a hurricane? Do they move it up in the Bay or tie it off there?

    • @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL
      @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL  2 роки тому

      I’m not completely sure. I’m assuming they have a home dock for it as I have never seen it tied up at the launches after hours

    Why won't they build a bridge that takes you from Hwy 180 to Hwy 193?

    • @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL
      @GregWarrenOrangeBeachAL  3 роки тому

      Probably can’t because of the size it would have to be so the HUGE cargo ships could get into and out of Mobile Bay. That would be my guess.

      Depending on the depth of the channel in spots it may not be practical or feasible. However, I thought much the same thing. Why isn't there a causeway connecting the two penninsulas? Building it tall enough in the middle for cargo and cruise ships to navigate isn't the issue. I can only think depth could be. It would make flying to Mobile airport a lot more attractive option for tourists planning trips to Gulf Shores than Pensacola were there a connecting causeway. I hate the drive to gulf shores from Pensacola and will be flying to Mobile this time next month and taking the ferry from Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan and back during my trip. Looking forward to the journey.

      @@MikeBodo I don't believe depth is an issue as there had been discussion about building one. It makes no sense to drive and hour and a half from gulfshores to mobile just to get on I-10 west. A bridge would make it a 20 min trip
