- -------- UPDATE: She went under agreement only hours after we finished our tour :(
Finding yet another amazing deal on a sailboat for sale in Maine, Captain Q finds a 1974 Scheel 45 - a center cockpit ketch sailboat. This design has some amazing features; 6'4" standing room, double-entry fridge, electric winches, walk-in engine room, walk-in generator room, a bathtub in the master head(what!!!?), and a second aft cockpit off of the master stateroom!! With an impressively long waterline (39') this comfortable and spacious cruiser may not stay on the market in the time that it took us to record and post it!!!

Rewatching this one so I can see what Ran-Day got for himself. I love the beautiful green, and anything with two masts is already way up there!
Literally doing exactly the same
As am I
Bingo! I remember watching 1st time and thinking this is a boat that I would like to have. After seeing the electrical locker, not so sure.😬 Still a great boat and once he gets that squared away the rest of the projects will be more enjoyable. Curious if anyone knows, would you just rip that out and redo from scratch or chase and trace lines. I know nothing about this stuff but always learning.
@@robertryan627 I see no reason to rip it all out. Just inspect/redo all the connections, then LOTS of tie wraps.
me too :-)) Randy Congratulations on your boat purchase, beautiful.
Morgan bought the molds and rights to this design, and made them very similar to the original for 1 year ('78). Moorings the got involved, and they made some modifications, but did not change the basic design much. This was the Morgan 461 (sloop rig) and 462 (ketch). I circumnavigated on a Morgan 461 and my conclusion was that, to find a better boat for my travels, I would have had to spend 10X the money. These are great boats.
Thank you, Doug!! I’ve pointed a few people private towards the 461/462 but it’s great to hear the positive experience! It’s a testament to Scheel’s design prowess!
No wonder i love this boat... Since i like the morgan catalina style of cockpit in the middle
Randy buys this beautiful sailboat ⛵️
It makes me happy that Ran-Day got this boat. It looks fabulous, and he'll look fabulous at the helm! 😀
Just discovered your channel, and as someone with NO sailing experience, your explanations are incredibly helpful and well done.
I feel exactly the same
Me too. Iwanted to buy that boat so much because of the descrption.
And ..British Racong Green with a zgold stripe!
The only thing you need to remember is "Stay on the surface". Primitive people crossed oceans in CANOES!

Just wanted to say that you guys are honestly the BEST new UA-cam “sailing/yachting” channel and duo to come around in the YT boating space in a long time!
Capt Q is simply world class, 10/10, and an absolute solid gold host, guide, narrator, and expert in all things sailing....and your camera work, editing, use of drone shots, EXCELLENT sound and soundtrack editing and volume levels....I mean what more can I say- truly a PLEASURE to watch EVERY one of your video, I love what you guys are bringing to this space of YT sailboat/yacht channels, and I think the SKY is the truly the ONLY limit as to how successful, respected and admired your wonderful channel can grow to!
Cheers and many thanks, especially to Capt Q...between his almost unreal level of knowledge and experience, to how amazing he flows with his narration, comedy relief, amazing little tidbits and facts of wonderful knowledge he adds in, to his overall MASTER level understanding of sailboats and their shapes, history, features, engineering concepts, etc etc....wow, just wow!
I’m afraid we are at a loss for words now after that Speedy ! Lol but thank you very much for your kind thoughts
@@YachtHunters it's for sale at brewer yachts. Dealing with brokers isn't really your thing. It just seems cheap and it's simply not selling. When my living situation changes in a few years I'll probably pick up a tartan 31. Two best days in a boaters life and all..... But I miss sailing......
😢3
I came back to see what Ran-Day got for his new home. It is an older boat with good B&G electronics. Very pretty sailboat. Happy Trails
No one can present a boat like captain Q; knowledge, style, class and humor. What a delight and what a gorgeous boat.
That's very kind of you. thank you!
This is such wonderful content that imparts legitimate wisdom.
I’ve watched all your videos on sailboat tours and this is my favorite of them that I’ve seen. I lived on a Bayliner Buccaneer 320 for a few years.
Well done Ran'day. If you got this for under 40 grand, you got an absolute steal!
I had my eye on this. Glad to hear someone will enjoy her.
I need 35,000 people to send me a dollar. Then in the spring of ‘21, I’ll take her through the Panama Canal, headed for French Polynesia! At 76 years of age, you would call this, “Choosing my mountain!”
i think we were in the same high school class lol
@@YachtHunters
That would be just grand, sir. Love the videos; wis I’d have known way sooner.
What a gorgeous boat. Love the classic lines over the modern slabside stuff.
Your films are such a treat fellas, thank you!
So glad to discover this channel! It is like Hemmings Barn Hunter for sailboats!
Very enlightening , thank you Sir. Haven’t heard nifty insights into boating like this ever before!
You’ve given me a great appreciation for these older(vintage) boats! I see all these new boats with their bells and whistles and think that means they sail better. You can tell they built a sailboat and then added the goodies. Newer boats seem to meet the goodies and build the sailboat around it. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words!! We think you can get a lot of boat for the $$ if you look hard enough (and get a good survey too)!! This one was especially great... given all the surprising features. Cheers!
I love that this channel exists and that I'm seeing boats in the marinas I know! So cool. Thanks so much.
thank you!
5:10 Those scratches come from the anchor chain when the boat is anchored in situations with opposing wind and current. The boat will lay funny over the anchor and make those sweeping scratches. Happened several times on a Mason 44 that I used to own.
fantastic insight -- that makes total sense given the shortness of the bowsprit.... our cameraman, rand-day, was commenting on how he wanted to see a longer bowspirt on her... Thanks!!
A couple of dark colour pool noodles split length ways once and slipped onto the chain ..might stop that if your concerned with them staying on wrap some velcro straps round then to stop the split opening and the chain popping out.
As they float they will stay mostly above the water line.
Worth a try if your going to be at anchor a while and not on watch?

Thank you for your time and sharing this videos.
Sailed a Sheels 45 on the first Marion Bermuda Race in 77
I appreciate all the definitions and illustrations that this channel provides. Makes us nubies a little less ignorant of what we’re seeing. Thank you 👍🏼
Well, we appreciate the kind words… thanks, Bill
I am hooked on your UA-cam videos!! As many others have mentioned I have no sailing experience to speak of and I am really learning so much just from watching your great videos!!
Brilliant coverage of the race, thank you
just looked at this video a second time. Randy, I truly understand why you bought this boat. An excellent boat for the money. Definitely is high on my list! Congratulations, and I hope to see more of your videos.
Don't own a boat and never will, but from watching all the other vids on UA-cam with boats, it's $$$$ to buy and even more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to fix and maintain ! Good luck !
That's pretty sage advice from a non-boat owner!!! You are definitely correct!! :)
I like the cards that explain sailor language :)
thanx
@@YachtHunters Greetings Captain Q Should you run across a 45' to 55" mast head cutter rigged sloop with inside steering, between 35k to 50k, in good condition. A email would be appreciated. Frank
Uh oh, I'm going to need to watch all of your videos now. Thanks for the great tour of an amazing boat!!
Much appreciated!! Cheers
What a very enjoyable video showing a knowledgeable walkthrough with great chemistry and an interesting boat.
Many thanks.... much appreciated!! :)
Love your insight . Always enjoyable to see you have a great day.
Definitely a strong looking vessel beautiful woodwork !
Very nice boat. The after cockpit is the cherry on top. You are correct sir.
I love this boat!!! thanks Mr. Q and Randy great video!!!
i am plannin to learn sailing and buy a boat in 2021. Your channel is just amazing for someone like me. SO much information for people like us. I wish you lived near me in philadelphia.
Maine is definitely closer than Sydney Australia....thanks for your wish
I am new to your channel and love your boat reviews. You gush time after time about the boats you are looking at. I think that’s because you have really fine taste in boats. You don’t seem to review poorly designed yachts. You are fun to watch, knowledgeable, and inspirational. If my knees weren’t so shot I’d be out shopping for something like the ones you are reviewing. Man, this one was a nice boat.....
Thanks very much! If it floats it gets a 10 😉
this is my kind of boat , just big enough but not too big and the "porch" for the master cabin is great
they only built 6 of these originally who knows where the rest are
rewatching it too.
Beautiful, a livable boat.
9:33 Wow, that's a lotta headroom. And "open concept", look at all that room. And that aft cockpit, it's, well...romantic!!
A beautiful boat for 1973, love the design and the price is unbelievable.
We agree!
Late comment, that is a nice boat. Been watching on and off for a while now and love this one. Considering the varied prices of the different boats, this one seems a great value.
Wow cant believe this boat didnt sell within a week of this video! What a steal of a deal
What a boat what a viewing. You guys rock. Well done
Okay, Randay got it. Good luck to him. I will keep on looking. Love so much this boat.
This has become one of my favorite episodes!
Capt Q loves sailboats. He can just feel the pull of the wind and the waves when he relaxes. 3 cheers.
Really good, what a terrific channel this is. I am into the newer yachts but CQ gives so much detailed information. And Randy and the sea dog makes it complete! Great day from The Netherlands.
Thank you and welcome aboard!
Center cockpit is my favorite. Well protected with less motion.Very good taste Randy. Your PB.
Hi Captain Q
I just found your channel and have watched all your videos and I absolutely love them. I live in Australia and have grown up all my life with boats but not sail boats, and therefore have very little if no experience in sailing. My goal is to one day buy a sailing yacht and get out and sail these amazing oceans this world has to offer. You are amazing with your knowledge and description and explanation of the boats you show, I love ep 11 and that boat. I have subscribed and now look forward to watching and learning and hopefully one day soon be in a position to purchase a boat like that 45 foot. a beautiful yacht.
THANK YOU
I'm not surprised that boat sold so quickly. that is one of most impressive vessels I have seen.
This is such a nice boat. I loved the Morgan 462 and was in our family for a very long time. It is so hard to believe the 39k price for this boat. At least 40k lower than any 462 or 461. If I can do it over again, I would buy the original and dedicate 16 months full time to bring it back to pristine condition. This will set me for life. Can travel through France and all the Med. My lifetime dreams. Thank you Captain for keeping my dream alive.
Sounds like a plan to us! We understand that she did sell for above asking price… which is unusual but not unheard of in current times
If only this was in my neck of the woods...Never ever thought you'd find one of these under 50k! Great channel!
Maybe one day!
I came back to watch this video again I think this would be a great boat for me
I love your channel, you guys are great, and Capt.Q thanks for knowledge passed on, doesn't happen enough in irl, let alone on social/new media. I am currently searching for what will be my very own yacht, first and last I think, this just the sort of vessel I would take in a heartbeat, if there where anything like it here in Australia for the price. I love your work guys, keep it up, you'll never run out of boats for sale there, so by the look of it your channel will just keep growing, fair winds gentlemen😭.
Great find you channel and perfect boat now I can’t find one !! Just perfect !!
Great job looking forward to more vids
Welcome aboard!
Grate channel.
Will love to see some newer boat Servey . ⛵
in the milll thank you
These are great videos, very interesting, and very well produced. Please keep up the great work.
Das ist eine alte " Kiste"
Da muß noch viel Geld reingesteckt werden.
Der Angebotspreis ist i.o ,falls Motor noch laeuft und Segel einigermaßen sind.
War das frueher ein
Kielschwerter ?
This fantastic boat reminds me of the 70s car building style in the US. It's all way too big for what you need....but endlessly beautiful to watch. Other times with a bit less people everywhere.
Awesome presentation. Beautiful boat. And, I'm only 20 miles from York. Buying a boat right now would be a horrendously bad idea for me. But, considering the long list of stupid things I've done, what's one more.... :-) Thank you, Captain, for sharing your knowledge and insight! As a wannabe sailer, you make it seem so "reachable!" Thank you, thank you, thank you!
what an amazing sailboat .... brilliant!!
I recently just discovered your channel and enjoy learning from you. I don't subscribe to many, but I did subscribe to yours. I think you are providing very valuable information. I hope to buy a live aboard blue water sailboat within the next couple of years, but I live in Utah for now, so it's hard for me to go out to look at boats in person, so watching your channel and learning from home is perfect for me. I will be on a small budget, so seeing what kind of deals can be found is so great. Thanks from Utah and I hope you can keep making these videos.
than s so much
One of my favorite sail boats. 😊😊😊😊
One of my favorites
Just shows that there are some really good deals out there.
I love your channel please keep posting more videos great way to learn about sailboats.
My parents circumnavigated the globe in an Endurance. This boat reminded me of a big version of their boat. Go buy it and hit the sea!
Beautiful boat. Steel of a deal.
When I get my boat I'm bringing Captain Q with me to help with the decision!
love to help
The dark green is decorated with the gold line, which is so beautiful.
That is a beautiful vessel.
She's a beautiful boat. The dream would be on something similar by 65-70. I am 44 now, goals!
I got the same goals and am the same age. Stacking Au and Ag to make it happen. If it cannot buy my farm, it will buy my yacht!
That is a fantastic boat If it was available I would buy it in a minute.
Great cruising yacht. That Boat can go anywhere.. I want it!!
My mouth is salivating, beautiful boat
Very interesting tour! Thank you sir, great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous boat!
Wow, I can’t believe the price on your boats you two are able to discover, truly treasures. Fantastic video.
Can you explain to me the price. She seems soo undervalued. Am I missing something here?
I agree great price point.
Looking forward to seeing Randy sailing in the Spring.
Too good to wait for . . . . lovely.
Your making great content! Keep up the hard/good work! I’m a power boat guy I don’t know much about sail but it’s very enjoyable to watch your videos.
Thank you Ben, I love all boats and power is second on my list.. I would like to do some down the line that make sense especially for sailors ready to take it easy in our Golden Years....The trawler market seems ready to be explored as low hanging fruit unless they have all been picked by the time we get there. But thank you again for your kind note
@@YachtHunters I too would enjoy some content on trawlers or other power cruisers. I love the romanticism of sailing but my health may not allow me to enjoy it. It’s fun to dream still!
This boat is my favorite of the boats you've shown thus far.
good taste she was beauty
Great to see the Scheel 45 again. Henry was a dear friend and the perfect gentleman. The aft Cockpit was so Henry could enjoy his morning pipe without offending his guests. The bathtub started as a joke but materialized as a favorite of most owners. The design was sold to Morgan when Henry was working for them designing the boats for Disney. I believe they eliminated the aft cockpit and the centerboard. Henry would be so pleased with your video. It brings back wonderful memories for me.
Robert, thank you so much for sharing some inside knowledge.... his designs are wonderful, and it’s so pleasing to hear those little details. We know several people that would buy the boat because of the tub!! Funny joke = clever success... just brilliant. Love the pipe story too... thank you!!!
As a smoker I knew exactly why the aft cockpit was included. Dedicated smoking section in’74. Classic and ahead of it’s time all in one. Plus the split bunks in the “primary” stateroom probably leads to longevity of a couple cruising successes lol.
Awesome boat! Thanks
Nice boat. There should be more like this one.
This is probably my favorite boat yet. That you've shown on your channel. Hopefully they made more than one.
They made six in total… the molds were sold to Morgan, who adapted them to make the 461 & 462 with some different features
@@YachtHunters The layout of this boat etc... This boat is by far my favorite.
@@YachtHunters I can't wait to see what you do with her. Keep the the videos coming. I use your channel for relaxation.
What an amazing boat! wow...
Absolutely beautiful boat! Also, thanks for the term definitions!
Thank you for joining us
Great video and I just subscribed, liked everything about it,well done and thank you sir,for the love and history lesson of sailing you shared with us.Cant wait to see the next boat tour or lesson you have to offer, take care be safe and may your needs be met when needed....
Thanks for the kind words and welcome aboard!! :)
Amazing Buy!
Incredible boat.
This video just popped up on my recommended. Great video. I subscribed. I recently purchased a mid 80’s Jeanneau. Too far into the renovations now. But if I had seen this first, I would have bought this boat 5 times over. This boat has everything. And more.
Thanks for the sub! and stay with the one you brought to the dance you have invested yourself in her and will be roundly rewarded
thanks for saying hi
You’re right, but man, that’s a nice sailboat.
Such a beautiful boat, thanks for showing it with high quality production.
Thanks for the kind words! She really is a beauty.... side note: the Morgan 461 & 462 used the same molds with some slight alterations.
Henry S. An Charlie Morgan
Designed the com-Pac 35' which can be purchased today from Hutchen co in Clearwater Fla..it's a great sailing boat that points up like a 6' draft but only draws 4 foot. Henry was a aeronautical engineer an well as a sailing yacht designer...
Congrats Ran-day on your purchase of this
I have no idea how to sail but I love the idea of learning how, and maybe someday sail around the world. This is a great find. Could you talk more about things like engine range/fuel capacity, water generation on these awesome finds? Thanks again!
Love seeing the beautiful Luders 16 in your intro. I sail a Luders 21 in Cincinnati.
Very cool!

What a find!
What's nice about this video is it gives a person a starting point. $39k is my new benchmark in a 45 foot beautiful sailboat that can likely just be ready to go immediately without any serious work, just routine repairs and maintenance needed going forward, probably continuous but that's to be expected.
