Just as you said your first 2 years it's a fight. After that they will be in The same boat. As for the office and compliance it is time consuming but it's not the end of the World. Inspections are part of the Trucking job. You have to put back a nest egg, if your leased on you should have put together all that in the Trk. The files are part of office. The O/O should be saving as much as they can in some circles $20-$30K before starting out. True information, and great presentation.
WHAT INSURANCES COVERAGES DO THE LEASE OWN CARRIER HAS TO HAVE ? I UNDERSTAND THAT THE PERSON WITH THE AUTHORITY ONLY COVER A PERCENTAGE. I DIDNT GET THAT UNDERSTANING.
just watching the video. havent ran in about 4 years. found a good union gig. but im thinking of leasing to a company. after doing all the IFTA HUT TAXES. just from the paperwork aspect i would think if you could lease on with a good company. id like to think thats the way to go. im going to give it a shot. if it doesnt workout ill fly solo. the only downside i could see would be the dispatch. am i correct? like the bird cant fly free
Great video I plan on becoming a owner operator when I start Trucking I was going back and forward on company/lease or just owner operator when I get my Cdl what do you think
Reputable company has asked if I want to lease a truck with them. They will get the driver. All I need to do is provide the truck. Older man that looks like he wants to help me out and make some money together. I know nothing of the business but only what I’ve seen on UA-cam and viselike this. What y’all think?
good video brother ,i would have one question once you pay that insurance for your authority is that good only for one truck or that $12-15k of insurance is for the whole fleet ,thank you
Experience, age, and driving record all play a part in your price. A friend of mine was under 30 years old and less than 2 years experience with his cdl and his quote was $20,000 for the whole year. You need to pay about 20% down. So he paid about $4,000. Once you pay the insurance your Mc#/Authority gets activated.
What if u just want to own a fleet. I currently have my own truck but looking to get another and just lease them on. I wanted to lease them on with your company but I think u said u dont dispatch correct. Not to sure. But if you could make a video about what the responsibilities of a fleet owner are. That would be very helpful. If you have time that is. Noticed your not making these videos anymore. Are u still in the business?
I got a question... I am a new owner operator I've been leased onto American global Express out of O'Fallon Missouri for a little over a month now. I answered their ad and it said operators could pick from several loads per day paying high rates. And that many drivers were bringing home $4,000 to $4,500 a week after fuel. They pay the insurance and all I have to pay is fuel. Okay so my question is this the real world is not matching what they said it would I get offered many a load that's around a buck 20 a buck 40 a buck-fifty okay. So what is a good way to handle that what are some things I can say too I guess you call him my broker who's calling up other brokers to get the load my company takes 25% and I get 75% but honestly I don't think I really know what I'm getting 75% of I think they're full of s***. Do you have some good advice on what I can say to represent myself and get my rates up thank you
New driver paying for their truck payment and insurance while booking their own loads. How much % would you take from a new driver who is leasing onto your authority?
I bought a 3500 dully 2018 n a big tex 40ft trialer i am currently leased on with a broker i pay 20 percent driver 30 percent insurance 389 a week i dont drive its a side bussiness for me but truck is avg 4900 a week i am left left with 300 to 600 a week after expenses i am putting more malige paying tolls but then i see other people have 10 hot shots i have one the broker has 4 load broads and he shows me very rate con everthibg so hes not laying but nobody pays more then 2.50 a mile n thats becuase hehas to put 3 loads at time to make 2400 in tge first 3 days by the time the week is ober we can only do 4 loads i am sayibg why are they paying so low not even avg a mile we have 4 load boreds any one else know something else please let me know i inbested 70k its not paying off
So when you lease on to a company, do you have an mc number, and do the loads you get while leased on to go toward your experience and rate so that brokers see and deal with you and standard your setting
No. When you lease onto a company, you are operating under THAT authority. Regardless of your DRIVING experience, once you obtain your own authority, you are a NEW carrier.
So does it make more financial sense to get your own authority if you have lots of time with minimal bills and stress and saved quite a bit of cash up? Do you get to choose your own routes and home time leasing on or is your control minimal compared to having your own authority?
Thank you for such an informative video. How does one get loads with good rates as a new trucking business owner. Would you advise using a broker , loading boards or lease on to the bigger carriers?
Is there anyway for me to talk to you privately? I also own a new fleet and one of my drivers is looking at buying a truck and running under my authority. Just had some questions on who should be responsible for what. Also curious as to what paperwork you have them sign that outlines agreement.
DO NOT DO A LEASE PURCHASE PROGRAM, do your research,i been there one time. your buying there truck an good luck getting it to keep as your own they find reason an a way to take it back
When do you have time to drive and make money?? With all the inspections, compliance interviews, audits and factor in one breakdown every 2 months for whatever. Sounds like the only hard part is getting work done... Then you dealing with shady brokers trying to short change you. I really want my own truck but this video doesn’t sound worth it. Thanks for the info.
I have a question that I've been trying to get a clear response for a long time! As a leased owner operator am I required or allowed to receive the broker rate confirmation on all my loads? I'm paid 90% of the line haul.. I've been with this company for the past 5 years and they tell me rate confirmations are "confidential".. Is that true?
Dani Veliciu I hope you got your answer by now. They are not obligated to give you the rate confirmation but you shouldn't be with a company that doesnt provide them. A lot of companies dont provide it because thats how they make their extra money, by fucking the owner operators. They basically steal from you by telling you the load paid a certain amount when in reality it paid more. If they get you a load that paid $1200 for 400 miles, they will tell you it paid $1000 and they will keep $200 plus they will keep the 10 or 12 percent they charge for dispatching. Its fucked up but thats how a lot of companies work. Thats why demand to get your rate confirmations otherwise you will never know if you are getting ripped off.
They have to give them to you if you make them or leave. If a carrier pays you on percentage even if you’re a company driver you should be seeing all your rate confirmations prior to picking up the load. With paperwork being so easy and technology being the way it is it takes them ten seconds to forward you the rate con. There’s no reason for you not to be able to see it unless they are stealing from you. Which they probably are.
Ok so I see the benefits if leasing on. My question is that if your end goal is to get your own authority, does starting out leasing on with someone else help towards that goal? Meaning that if I'm going to incur higher costs when I first get my MC# and run on my authority, does leasing on with someone else just delay the inevitable? Does a person typically either choose at the outset of their career whether they will lease on or get their own authority?
I have found that most people don't make it long enough to see the difference with in bottom line.If you have the time and money then their is no reason to lease on but with most people they don't want to put in the work. There's alot of "behind the scenes " work that goes on with A trucking company.
Bishop I had to leased on to a mega carrier (Werner). It was either that or be a company driver making 36 cents a mile lol. Werner was my first company... but you Damn sure won't get rich off of it.

Thanks for going in depth an breaking down the process 💯

The authority company is the company that has to have insurance however some companies still charge you
Thanks appreciate the video. My question is can you comment by video on what tricks brokers try to take advantage of you to watchout for?
Awesome info!
Great input !!!!!!
Do a video plz on brokers insurance vs commerial insurance like progressive thx
Very informative. Thanks
Right about that. Progressive the only one that even entertained me.
sucks for sure.
I'm wanting to get into hotshot trucking, but dont have a clean driving record. What are somethings I can do
Super helpful info. Thanks!!!!
