  • This video has been created not so much as an educational video but as a Nostalgic look back at the 70s, 80s and mid 90s. This Video id dedicated to my old mate Colin Brown, Regional Sale Manager of the old DA System back in 1994. If you have been in the industry for 40years or more you will have heard of #ColinBrown. Ex, Castle Alarms Sale manager, DA System sales manager Former UK Sales Director for Ademco Microtech UK, and more.
Col, Breakfast is on you. Lol
Today I'll be replacing a Modern Panel for a Vintage Abacus 8R, yes we are going back in time. Im putting the original panel back in after 6 months as the customer (Mother-in-Law) is moving house out today and the New panel was only a temporary fix for PA Buttons to contact me in an emergency.

That took me back a bit especially when you said ensign....used to work at AC wolf years ago and fitted lots of DA systems kit . In its day I found it to be a good kit fitted loads of Abacus 64,s 👍

AC Wolf, That brings memories back, they joined forces with GRB in the early 90s if I remember right. Did you know John Plumton! We were the Guinea pigs for the original alarm course BS185 in Stourbridge College, took us ages trying to get a syllabus together.

@@SFGSecurity That name sounds vaguely familiar and I did the C&G 185 course @ Stourbridge college.
My original background was as an electrician did 236 parts 1,2&3
Sidelined to alarms when the industry was going through a bad patch

You must be of a similar age to me. I started in alarm industry about 78 after serving an engineering apprenticeship, Me and a mate (Dave Trimer) Started D&L Security, "I was only learning then", which went on to become The Security Design Centre, after that Started with Direct Security.
I decided to do the electrics part time in 86 just in case alarm industry got flooded. Got my Bs236 1,2,3. Bs2391. Not bad for a dyslectic, colour blind engineer. Still going at 64.

I know Dave Trimmer actually work at SDC for a while
Also remember Direct based in Willenhall .
I am 56 but had to stop work at the start of Covid due to a diagnosis of epilepsy.
your videos take me back to work something that I really miss 👍

Small world. I left there about 1990 so I’d done 11 years there. Got made redundant so started SFG. Two days after I was made redundant I was offered a job from Direct, told him I didn’t want to work for anyone else, Brian kept the job open and I went to see him 3 weeks later. Worked there for about 12 years then handed in my notice. Still see and hear from Brian of Direct and Dave Trimer.
