The stationary bike is an amazing tool, if you can stomach it. Really frees up the pounding from the legs if you traditionally need rest days. But can still do all the LT1/2 work. As for HARD short intervals. Throw on the Stryd pod, and do a set on a flat, and then do another set on fairly tame uphill. And then check the Impact Loading Rate afterwards... I was doing 1k to 1.6k uphill at CP with a 400-600m easy downhill jog recovery, thanks to an awesome horseshoe loop. For longer efforts, doing these at Marathon power would be a decent starting point while you adapt. As I go into my Boston block, it's all gonna be about uphill/downhill power. But I will caution you about trying to hold power targets on sustained downhills. Power doesn't translate perfectly downhill. So you can easily overdo it and pound the legs to mush. If I can hold 5-10% less power on the downhill it seems like a decent and safe alternative. Again, check the impact loading rate for the same power on the flats, vs the same power on the uphill and downhill...it's very eye opening about the balance of stimulus vs risk. I've got to the point where I simply need to get faster, but after a calf tear in the spring of 2022 I've been shying away from anything faster than over/under LT2 intervals. But post Chicago recovery, with finally incorporating strength training again, my calf is a non-issue. So here's hoping I can get back to hitting the maximal aerobic domain, maybe even into VO2 max. Something longer than simple strides which is all neuromuscular recruitment.
Great comment as always! Thank you! I just got the Stryd footpod (it took more than 3 weeks to arrive!). Tried it out yesterday but I’m still learning and letting it collect data at this stage… I love a bit of speed. It’s my running candy. :)
Hopefully you can sort that out! My physio has me rolling my quads with a ball as much as I can. See if that helps? My knee issues usually come from my quads.
You're blistering fast! Did my Sunday longrun here in Sweden (got a house here in rural Sweden) in shorts and 10-12C, so no early snow this year😅. A 1/2 mara next Sunday, so no rest for the wicked🤪. Did 75 km the week after Frankfurt, not bad...or maybe it was? Btw: nice trails🤩
That’s such a nice comment! Thank you! We had a dusting of snow but no more and it’s been warm again. The ski hills are apparently opening this week but I’m not sure how - there’s no snow! Let me know how the half goes - that’s super close to Frankfurt so Jake sure you’re kind to yourself!! I’m so lucky with those trails. That’s the Canmore Nordic centre.
@global-runner If there's just a scent of frost these modern snowmachines are making miracles, at a cost of course🤪. The skiresorts over here in Scandinavia will struggle more so far, but you can't expect those to be able to open this early anyway. But sure, the skifreaks have started drooling😅. I did some woodchopping just now, but the small gnats drove me insane. Can you believe that, in November😱🤪. And Friday a wasp rested in my Puma shoe, stinging me hard when lacing up, causing my upper ankle to swell hard for 2 days! Such is countrylife😅.
How often should we do stride mate -?? I’m 46yrs old ran my 5th marathon in just about 2yrs . From --3:38-- now --2:48-- Chicago- do you still think I can still PR? Thanks for all do thanks kindly
@@hagosmesgoun7195 I don’t stride as much as I should!! But I try at least once a week! Your times are super fast! You should be very proud of them. But I bet you have motivation for another one so soon after those others, you can get sub 2:45…
Great workouts, high quality video with the drone and the digital data + good music !
@@francisvaillancourt100 Thank you!! I really appreciate that. I slays do my best to make them as interesting as possible! :)
"Autumn of Speed". Love it.
Thank you!! It’s coming to an end…!

Hitting some lovely paces! I'd like to try some of those workouts if my knee ever gets better again.

@@global-runner I'll try that. My knee issues also seem to come from my quads.
@ I’m definitely no expert - but it cant hurt! :)
I love that you’re doing hills session and wearing “Indian Hills” shirt 😂👍
Ha! That never even crossed my mind!! /)
I was looking forward to this!
Thank you!! I had a small pause due to inclement weather!
Calgary area is so beautiful!!
@ It really is. Very lucky to run here

Icy conditions make it kind of dangerous! Otherwise, I’m a cold runner - do so much better in the cold than heat or humidity!
I’m the same. But I’ve had some pretty crazy slip-on-ice injuries. Once you’ve banged up one hip on ice, it’s tough to be confident on it ever again!
So true! Even walking the streets of Chicago one winter had me lose confidence in walking in icy conditions 🥶
@ i hear ya!!
