Airbenders are such a huge mystery would have loved to have a more fleshed out backstory into there history and culture, also some secondary bending like sound bending
I mean to gain the ability to fly you have severe yourself from everything and all emotions which in itself is kind of hard to do and being in a tribe is kind of an attachment
Interesting, I’d previously heard form @atlalore (Instagram) that the strong bond each one has to a sky bison might be what hindered their ability to fly
First (I think)! Sometimes I wonder if metal bending police officers can fly. Let me explain, if they can bend their metal armor suits, which we saw Lin doing, can they make it levitate whilst wearing it? I mean after seeing the huge piece of building Suyin, Lin and Bolin lifted and moved it means that they must be able to support their own weight. (besides they lifted boulders bigger than them ALL THE TIME) What do you think?
Did they ever confirmed that the Fire Nation captured all of the Southern Waterbenders alive because they assumed that one of them was the Avatar? Because that makes too much sense, given the fact that they used similar tactics on Aang or would have if he didn't escape.
But if that's the case why didn't they also attack the Northern Water tribe too. Why did they assume the Avatar will be born in the south. They had equal chances of being in either one of them. Also if finished their test on them why didn't they start killing in mass. They are no good for labor and they just take up space and resources.
I saw this theory a while ago saying that it's because of the sky bison. Not because they were able to use them for flight but because of the strong bonds the airbenders formed with them, earthly tethers keeping them from achieving flight
I think we are talking about two totally different things here. Acient airbenders developed what seems to be some form of airsliding assisted by some type of controled current of air. Therefore this skill is unique to airbenders. Guru Lahima's technique to levitation conversely, is a totally different thing that has nothing to do with air bending. The mantra Zaheer recites when he achieves this "let go your earthly tether, enter the void, empty, and become wind" literally means leave the worldly attachments of your spirit, and your physical body in consequence, will also become unattached from this earth, hence levitate". This is a much more profund (and even inspiring) technique, discovered by an airbender as monks obviosuly have the most spiritual and peaceful life. Again, it's just my understanding of the matter.
Airbenders used levitation, you can tell since they use clouds as a platform. Zaheer actually flew and it's because he left behind all wordly attachments like a true air nomad monk. It's similar to Aang's Chakra training except without the Avatar stuff
Bender evolution is scary lol. Like Water benders can control bodily fluid, Earth benders can control metal, Fire benders can shoot lightning and airbenders can fly. What’s next? Making space energy?
I feel like bending plasma should go to the air benders since plasma is suppose to be superheated gas but the fire benders could use another sub element hmmmm.
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 But airbender can't heat/cold down air. They can manipulate in but they change alter the temperature of air. Fire benders would be ones that achieves plasma bending. Imagine if they did the war would have been over in a decade.
My theory I’ve been telling people is it started with sky bisons, the air benders began to use them for transportation but eventually loved them, their earth attachment was their connection to the bison remember when aang got his It’s supposed to be a big thing a life friend. My theory is that because everyone started getting attached to the masters of air they lost the ability to fly but they didn’t care because bisons would fly in place for them and gliders where just more fun
I honestly think they were using a different method to float, the clouds may not be an just to show the mythology, the airbenders may have been using vapor to have loose sort of anchor to support them in the air while the material is still in the range of freedom unlike a chunk of rock supported by an air sphere instead of just being able to fly though enlightenment.
Antoine or anyone else remember a specific source for the designation of the southern/northern temples being the monasteries and the eastern/western temples being an abbot/nunnery? Sky-Bisons can fly & still have an attachment to their masters/owners. I think it would've been if Tenzin's as the only remaining Air-bending Grandmaster created Offensive Air-Bending techniques to insure that the next Generation of Air-Benders can fight against any Calamity like the Fire-Nation's colonization. Writers could've taken inspiration from Naruto's wind-release jutsus to create the attacks for Tenzin such as:- (1) Wind-Slash (2) Air Bullets (3) Wind Shuriken (4) Wind Breakthrough (5) Wind Great Breakthrough (6) Sickle Weasel Technique (7) Wind Cutter (8) Pressure Damage (9) Great Sickle Weasel (10) Vaccume Bullet/Sphere (11) Vaccum Wave (12) Blade of Wind (13) Gale Palm Tenzin's strongest A-o-E attack should've been about Creating a Giant (E5) Tornado with Waves charged to cut anything into small pieces, he should be able to create the Tornado around him acting as his centre & controlling it. Tenzin should've been able to create "Sound-Bending" as a form of Sub-bending of Air, he should be able to use this bending for:- (1) Sound Amplification (2) Enhanced Hearing (3) Sonic Scream (4) Lie Detection (5) Voice Manipulation & Mimicry (6) Voice Masking (7) Sound Nullification (8) Sound Blast (9) Sonic Healing (10) Sonic Regenerative Healing Tenzin's focus on creating so many external & Militaristic (external) applications for Air-Bending should be the reason why he wasn't able to Master Spiritual aspects of Air Bending. Tenzin should've observed Zaheer & eventually discovered methods to create Air-bending techniques like him or even better. He should've has re-created these techniques by observing Zaheer & Air-bisons:- (1) Flight (2) Vaccum Seal => the technique used by Zaheer to kill Earth Queen Tenzin shouldn't be teaching these techniques to his Kids as they were very young & Korra lacked talent as an Air-bending to learn the above techniques. When other Air-benders especially the likes of Bhumi emerged & Air-temple was targeted by Red-Lotus, Tenzin should decide to pass on his Offensive Air-bending techniques. Red-Louts should've attacked the Air Temple with almost 500 to 800 members with Zaheer & his team acting as leaders. Tenzin & Korra shouldn't be at the time of the attack but when they arrived, Tenzin being fearful of his family's life & being enraged at the world again trying to attack Air-benders should've unleashed his fury. Tenzin single-handedly should've killed almost 200 (non-bender) members of Red-Lotus & the only reason the Red-Lotus should've been able to subdue Tenzin was by capturing his family & threating to kill them.
I FREAKING CALLED IT! Earthbenders can dust bend (air bending bleed over) and bone bend (water bending bleed over) then of course lava bending (fire bending bleed over)
You have to do more than just let go of your earthly tether. You have to enter the void. Basically accept the relationship between brahman (mass) and atman (energy) and sacrifice the connection with your own physical body.
havent watched the video but my theory is that airbenders lost their ability to fly because of skybison. It might be possible that they adapted and found that their is no need to fly and waste energy when they have skybison.
Unassisted flight doesn’t come from the side of the light. It comes from the side of the dark. After harmonic convergence and the lion turtles leaving humans to their own devices, any type of bending connected to the dark was eventually lost. The airbenders prior to this were more balanced. Which is why I don’t believe they were flying unassisted, they were just far less earth bound.
I have a question, in book 1 we see aang lift up a giant boulder with airbending through an airduct or something. So, if he can lift that giant boulder up that weighs at least a tonne or more, why can't he (or other airbenders) make themselves float without their glider. Seeing that he can lift up a thing that weighs at least 20 times his own weight. And I know that this is the same question you have, but in avatar "the ability to fly" like zaheer and guru lahima, is not like regular airbending. So what I'm wondering is why can't they fly with normal airbending
I don't see why they couldn't achieve it as the air nomad kept out of conflict. We know that if an airbender commits murder ( regardless if its for defense) they are shunned and not allowed back into the temple. They should have learned the ability much sooner as we don't have any indication they participated, orchestrated, or perpetuated in any wars. Also the unassisted flight criteria is something that I believe airbending masters would know how to do. It requires you to let go of your earthy tether. Air nomad were gender separated so families tides were not present compared to the most of the world. They had the ability to travel the world, a luxury no other nation had giving them a broader outlook on life. It looks like they never wanted for food and they didn't expand more than the mountains they were housed on. They were in a society to facilitate flight, for some other reason they couldn't.

When I see a notification from antoine I think maybe antoine released a new full metal alchemist video but I guess I am wrong
Fridays for FMAB vids.
@@AntoineBandele And game night, hopefully?
@@AntoineBandele But also looking forward to FMAB reaction
First (I think)!
Sometimes I wonder if metal bending police officers can fly.
Let me explain, if they can bend their metal armor suits, which we saw Lin doing, can they make it levitate whilst wearing it?
I mean after seeing the huge piece of building Suyin, Lin and Bolin lifted and moved it means that they must be able to support their own weight. (besides they lifted boulders bigger than them ALL THE TIME)
What do you think?
5th
I don't see any reason why they can't.
Does levitating not count as flying?
Hmmm cool, I would like to see them do that, but they already have some metal cables right?
Did they ever confirmed that the Fire Nation captured all of the Southern Waterbenders alive because they assumed that one of them was the Avatar? Because that makes too much sense, given the fact that they used similar tactics on Aang or would have if he didn't escape.
But if that's the case why didn't they also attack the Northern Water tribe too. Why did they assume the Avatar will be born in the south. They had equal chances of being in either one of them. Also if finished their test on them why didn't they start killing in mass. They are no good for labor and they just take up space and resources.
@@priapus_ Because they follow the cycle. Avatar Kuruk hailed from the Northern Water Tribe so the next one will come from the Southern Water Tribe.
I saw this theory a while ago saying that it's because of the sky bison. Not because they were able to use them for flight but because of the strong bonds the airbenders formed with them, earthly tethers keeping them from achieving flight
Smartt ngl didnt think of that
I don't think it's the same as flight. Maybe how the sky bison fly.
Can you do a Azula vs Kuvira analysis?? Been waiting for that one!! (Btw currently obsessed with ur yt channel)
Already did. But it’s blocked in most countries, except Canada. You can watch it with a VPN.
Airbenders used levitation, you can tell since they use clouds as a platform. Zaheer actually flew and it's because he left behind all wordly attachments like a true air nomad monk. It's similar to Aang's Chakra training except without the Avatar stuff
It's also dope that the air lionturtle itself was also weightless and actually floating in the air
Bender evolution is scary lol. Like Water benders can control bodily fluid, Earth benders can control metal, Fire benders can shoot lightning and airbenders can fly. What’s next? Making space energy?
Plasma bending. Light bending.
Airbenders are supposed to be free from the world so I was surprised with the qualification to fly and most airbenders didn't have the ability
Yeah, you’d think more of them would be flying.
It’s probably somewhere in the comic books but does anyone know about specifics.
And how does it relate to them not actually practicing total celibacy...
I definitely read it from one of the Korra comics
I guess Aang wasn’t flying when he was fighting Ozai.
That’s avatar stuff
@@mranima748 The avatar state provides you with all the knowledge and skills of the past avatars; it doesn’t give you super powers like super strength or flying; it’s just a skill that one of the past avatars was able to use.
Writers could've taken inspiration from Naruto's wind-release jutsus to create the attacks for Tenzin such as:-
(1) Wind-Slash
(2) Air Bullets
(3) Wind Shuriken
(4) Wind Breakthrough
(5) Wind Great Breakthrough
(6) Sickle Weasel Technique
(7) Wind Cutter
(8) Pressure Damage
(9) Great Sickle Weasel
(10) Vaccume Bullet/Sphere
(11) Vaccum Wave
(12) Blade of Wind
(13) Gale Palm
Tenzin's strongest A-o-E attack should've been about Creating a Giant (E5) Tornado with Waves charged to cut anything into small pieces, he should be able to create the Tornado around him acting as his centre & controlling it.
Tenzin should've been able to create "Sound-Bending" as a form of Sub-bending of Air, he should be able to use this bending for:-
(1) Sound Amplification
(2) Enhanced Hearing
(3) Sonic Scream
(4) Lie Detection
(5) Voice Manipulation & Mimicry
(6) Voice Masking
(7) Sound Nullification
(8) Sound Blast
(9) Sonic Healing
(10) Sonic Regenerative Healing
Tenzin's focus on creating so many external & Militaristic (external) applications for Air-Bending should be the reason why he wasn't able to Master Spiritual aspects of Air Bending.
Tenzin should've observed Zaheer & eventually discovered methods to create Air-bending techniques like him or even better. He should've has re-created these techniques by observing Zaheer & Air-bisons:-
(1) Flight
(2) Vaccum Seal => the technique used by Zaheer to kill Earth Queen
Tenzin shouldn't be teaching these techniques to his Kids as they were very young & Korra lacked talent as an Air-bending to learn the above techniques.
Earthbenders can dust bend (air bending bleed over) and bone bend (water bending bleed over) then of course lava bending (fire bending bleed over)
There is no bone bending in the official Avatar lore.
If you have to let go earthly tethers in order to fly, then why couldn’t aang do it after he let go of his tether (katara) in the S2 finale?
Aang was attempting flight, but the Avatar State. You can't use an ability you aren't aware of or aren't even attempting to utilize.
You have to do more than just let go of your earthly tether. You have to enter the void. Basically accept the relationship between brahman (mass) and atman (energy) and sacrifice the connection with your own physical body.
I just watched Merphy Napier’s video, saw your comment, and then saw you’ve uploaded.
Hah!
Guru Laghima is not so well known as a teacher, so he might have been a hermit and known only to masters of Airbending who study it deeply.
And now we see aang flying im confused
havent watched the video but my theory is that airbenders lost their ability to fly because of skybison. It might be possible that they adapted and found that their is no need to fly and waste energy when they have skybison.
Please do more videos like this 👍🏼
I don't do them unless they come up. I'm not exactly one of those channels that throw whatever out there just cause, LOL
Imagine if earth benders could fly with earth
I literally said something similar to this.
Dust-step
They got attached to their shy bison
Great video
Laghima was not more than 1000 years before Zaheer. He was friends with Yangchen
No. No he was not. He lived several generations before Yangchen. He was a contemporary of Lao Ge.
Waterbenders - Bloodbending
Earthbenders - Metalbending
Firebenders - Lightning bending
Airbenders - Flight
Earthbending - Sandbending, Seismic Sense, Lavebending, Crystal bending, Mud bending
@@priapus_ That too
@Wes Bradley-Taubner deadly
cool to think about this stuff
how do dragons, sky bisen, and badger moles be called the original benders when people started with the lion turtles
They were benders before the first human got bending
They probably became to the worldly
I have a question, in book 1 we see aang lift up a giant boulder with airbending through an airduct or something. So, if he can lift that giant boulder up that weighs at least a tonne or more, why can't he (or other airbenders) make themselves float without their glider. Seeing that he can lift up a thing that weighs at least 20 times his own weight. And I know that this is the same question you have, but in avatar "the ability to fly" like zaheer and guru lahima, is not like regular airbending. So what I'm wondering is why can't they fly with normal airbending
They should. Same with metalbenders and their armor and bloodbenders, technically.
@@AntoineBandele yea exactly
@@AntoineBandele thank you so much for replying, I love your vids bro, keep up the work
I don't see why they couldn't achieve it as the air nomad kept out of conflict.
What you are referring to is a relative modern airbender. Ancient airbenders do not necessarily abide by modern precepts.
@@AntoineBandele I was referencing the air benders around the time of Kyoshi, which was that least four hundreds of years ago. There is not a lot information regarding the ancient airbenders, hence me using information from the oldest airbender nation that is available.
Well they may not have participated in conflicts and worldly strife, but as nomads they certainly would have come across plenty of it. Which no doubt led to some cultural shifts
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 True. But in the four hundred years they were still gender separated, pacifist, vegetarians, and traveled. I haven't seen any cultural transformation from the time of Wan to Aang.
ive been wondering why there hasn't been a swamp people avatar
Who says there hasn't been ;-)
@@AntoineBandele that’s is true I got thinking about this when I rewatch the legend of korra and the white louts had said to have been investigating claims of the new avatar in the north and South Poles but there had been no swamp people claims
No love for long hair Zaheer sadness.
I don’t think so. Airbenders of that era had children and significant others, which are earthly attachments
Why didn't Korra take Zaheer's bending
where i can find all the comics.any good website or app
Your local library (libraries have apps too).
I don't know... I don't think gliding/flying with a cloud is the same as legit flying around like superman without a little nimbus. Maybe it is just a lost move airbenders could do but who knows you could be right.
The avatar is the best animation seasons ever
Too cool!
Why does Antoine look like Zaheer in book 4
😂
Hold on.... aren't clouds basically water tho... isnt controlling clouds a water bender thing
It's all connected, really. A lot of the benders should have a whole lot more overlap with their bending.
Those appeared to be a representation of wind for the style of animation in those episodes and not literal clouds.

It's specific to members.
I think the air benders lost the ability to fly because they created earthly attachments to the Sky Bison Air nomads love their Sky Bison’s so they have an attachment which means no more flying
That’s another popular fan theory I don’t agree with as much, as Sky Bison existed during Wan’s time.
Hiiii!
I think the reason I love Skypeia in One Piece it reminds me of what going back in time to an isolated world like the Airbenders would be like, albeit with themes of religious persecution, colonization of the Americas, and convoluted history.
@Antoine Bandele I have some other questions regarding airbending
1st why korra didn't unlock airbending until amon took from her the other elements
2nd why didn't she enter the avatar state until she mastered all four elements while aang was able even when he was just an Airbender I hope you can answer this
The answer to your second question: Aang is an air nomad, so i guess to be in the avatar state it needs spirituality.
@@spongie8354 I thought so too so I was hoping if there was another explanation but thanx anyways
What if guru lahema new the avatar of the time and could have taught shown them the skill but they never could pick it up
I think Other ELEMENTS have the ability to make people fly like uh take jeong jeong for an example he was flying with fire bending and someone can fly with earth bending the way they do it is like surfing only difference is your surfboard is made of earth and your surfing in the air or you can make earth boots and bend them to go up and dust stepping toph can do these cuz she is blind and water benders can fly to they can take some water and shape it like like a surfboard and there is a little version ice surfboard inside it and you can stand on and bend the water to keep it up and the ice surfboard in and you can fly many ways in air bending like the original way the wisest and smartest airbender ever leave all your earthly attachments become empty become enter the void become the wind or you can use a sun element of air cloud bending you can make a surfboard about of clouds also you can use air scooter technique when he was fighting Azula at the abandoned Village he try to make a trap so azula could fall and he was useing the air scooter to float and you can use a tornado like avatar roku and remember the fight with oazi when avatar anng used the elemental sphere he was flying and maybe air boots who know they might be in the future and air stepping or air sphere fire bending you can use fire jets to fly like oazi and Jeong jeong and general iron from legend of Korra and avatar korra she used this abilty against Zaheer when she got to her avatar rage because of the poison
Hmm that’s interesting

But I would looooove if you can do the theory of TyLee possibly being a descent of airbenders, due to her physical features and resemblance to aang, her spirituality, her fire nation official family status helped her family possible house air benders w/o anyone noticing etc etc....
Then the theory tht the fire nation southern raiders DID NOT raid the South Pole for katana but for HAMMA. The lady tht could blood bend. She was thought to be “the last” water bender of the southern tribe bc she was the only one to escape and was a danger
