Thank you John, for showing what the Seestar can do! The distance needed to get that Lighthouse in view was considerable! Something to keep in mind for imaging during the day.
Mine’s waiting to be opened, under the tree 🌲 now ! This is an awesome video you posted showing earthly capabilities of this little telescope, looks like I can almost do away carrying a video camera!
Thank you very much for this vidoe. I jhust got my S50 the other day and am learninghow to use to effectivey. I enjoy your calm, positive presentation manner.
Hi, I'm down for buying this smart telescope via High point scientific but I'm from Vietnam. Is it difficult to delivery this product to Vietnam? And what is the price ?
Thanks for review..... Is there a landscape mode? Is there a time lapse mode? Can we use it as a moterized supertelelens during timelapse? Footage looks fantastic......
@@campandcook3118 I'm not familiar with any settings in this regard, but there are facebook/online communities that are getting very creative with the SeeStar and may have a solution.
@@LearnToStargaze thanks, I appreciate your reply. I was just curious because I couldn't find anything myself. I bought the seestar after watching your amazing videos and it is too cloudy today so was playing with the scenic mode.
Nice video. Too bad you didn't show an example using a DSLR and SeeStar of the Lighthouse to compare with. I like the sunset with the DSLR better. I am thinking about the SeeStar 50, but still on the fence.
The lighthouse is only a couple pixels high with the DSLR. It is in the background of two shots from the 111 memorial location, which were filmed in HD with the DSLR.
I have a telescope, and mirrorless camera. I need a new zoom lens for my nikon, and I would also like a ZWO camera for the telescope. The problems is which way to go. I am a MAC and SharpCap does't work with the MAC and I am having a hard finding software for the MAC. For the telescope the SeeStar is good way to go, without looking at planets. I have some decision to make.@@LearnToStargaze
Helpful hint: Like I do with my drone, I update the firmware before I leave my home, where I always (99.99%) have highspeed internet. Great video, many thanks.
It's a camera that can be placed on trails, usually tied to a tree, and when it detects an animal or motion than it starts recording. So if I understand your comment about the sun correctly, this is focal equivalent to something like a 1200mm+ lens on a regular camera?
@@dukeofdoom2 It's something like a 250mm lens, that's only using about 10% of the image (due to the tiny sensor). That's why its a challenge to view anything from less than about 1000ft away.
how did you manage to do the update over the phone's network while staying connected to Seestar ? I find that when i connect to Seestar, the phone no longer has internet access though its network.
@@LearnToStargaze AFAIK, It is possible only if the Seestar connects in the station mode where both Seestar and your phone is connected to the same network. I presumed that the place where you were standing did not have a home network and the Seestar was directly connected to phone.
@@SirDamatoIII Yes, but that does not explain Seestar updating OTT while being connected to phone. Seestar does not have a "pass-through" option for internet, at least until the last time i checked. I had pointed this out to Seestar folks and they said, they would look into it. Devices like the insta360 X have pass-though facility where the device can access internet over the phone's network.
I’m wondering if this would work to record SpaceX starship launches. The closest point where I can be during the launch is 5miles from the rocket. Is the zoom fixed or can I zoom in even more?
Nah, this scope is diffraction limited (the small aperture limits resolution, not the sensor). For spaceX launches, I would get a dobsonian and a DSLR (with a barlow to achieve focus). Set the camera to record video, and follow the rocket up with a telrad. You can probably put this all together (refurbished) from B&H photo for about $500, the same price as the Seestar.
Hello. Divyanshu here with another query . What are your views about iOptron Cube TM-A Mount ? Its small. Has goto feature. can easy accomodate a small refractor and camera
The only thing keeping me from ordering the S50 is lack of real landscape mode. Do think they will add this in an update or are they limited by the hardware? The Dwarf II has it but the resolution does not match the S50.
Hi John I just received mine but havent opened it yet.. Is it really only 10 lbs it feels like something is missing or im just paranoid is the seestar really really light? I bought it assuming itll be a moderate heavy telescope at least.

Would his work for landscapes in the dark? Can it do a timelapse of a sunset? would be nice if it had a trail camera mode.

Are you sure it can hold a small refractor AND and camera? Based on the capacity it looks like a refractor OR a camera.
A small refractor with zwo cameras. I am conflicted between skywatcher AZ-gti and iexos pmc 8. The price diff here in India is around 10000₹ ( 125$)
@@Noob.astronomer In that case you would go with the SkyAdventurer GTI. That said, if you're on a tight budget, the iexos would do the trick.
The only thing keeping me from ordering the S50 is lack of real landscape mode. Do think they will add this in an update or are they limited by the hardware? The Dwarf II has it but the resolution does not match the S50.
It’s limited by the sensor size. The sensor is the most expensive part of the telescope, that’s why it’s so small.
@@LearnToStargaze Interesting. I would like horizontal would not require more sensor, just an optional orientation. We’ll see.
Do you have any problems with dew and frost at those temperatures?
At night, -5C, the scope got covered in frost, but it did not seem to impact the performance.

Yes, the scope is out of focus, pointed at something too close, and/or, the sky.

I think so. I’m out of town and I don’t have the scope with me to check.
does the app work in windows to control the telescope ???

I don’t know.
The telescope supports RTSP streaming of certain viewing modes
It has landscape mode? can u zoom out?
There is really no zoom in astrophotography, only image scale, which is fixed.
Will this work of you go remote with no cell or wifi siginal
Yes, it works fine with no coverage. It’s really just a camera :-)
can you do scenery mode at night?
Probably not. The sensor is too small.
Cold and snowy. You need a small and light grab and go telescope.
