Peter Kaestner is a retired U.S. diplomat and a world-renowned birder who has spent a lifetime sharing his passion for birds. He graduated from Friends School in Baltimore and studied biology at Cornell University. He has lived in 12 different countries and the highlight of his birding career came in 1989 when he discovered in Columbia, South America, a new antpitta (a small passerine) which was named in his honor Grallaria kaestneri.
