This Subaru Forester has ride height issues, or it hopped on the squatted truck trend.

- The back of this 2014 Subaru Forester is a little lower than it should be. In this video we will figure out the cause and repair it to get rid of the squatted look!

Why does it always look so easy when you do it! No seized bolts, no cross threaded nuts, no bangned and bleeding knuckles, no tools thrown half way across the yard, oh and the right part the first time....WTH Scott? Another great video, thank you!
No swearing?
@@therealhip9321 I was about to say the exact same thing.
The Magic of editing….lol
This was a pretty easy job. Even the rear wheel bearings came out without a fuss when I did them. I used to throw tools, then I got a little older and maybe a little wiser and realized it doesn’t help anything. I’m pretty calm, if I am not… run away!
I gave up throwing tools as well .. but i did it purely because they’re too damned expensive to replace these days.. Plus I don’t do nearly as many repairs as i did years ago
So, I changed the door striker bolts on my 98 Tahoe. And, you guessed it, I dropped one of the nuts down to the bottom of the B Pillar. I pulled off the B Pillar trim panel, fished it out and got the bolt installed. My wife was hanging out with me. As I put the trim panel back on, I smiled, held up my hand and told her "B Pillar trim panel installation tool!" She laughed and thought I was so clever. No, I did not tell her I got it from you. Yes, I lied and took total credit. No, I do not feel guilty. Well, maybe a little. Just know that your teaching is working. I have a wife who thinks I'm smarter and way more awesome than I actually am and I owe it all to you. And I'm never telling her the truth. Thanks Scott!
I’m here to help. 😂
Good to see you are still managing to make videos, hope you get back to normal content soon so you can save on sunscreen... all the best..
I actually like working outside! 😂
I do hope that you get a new shop soon.
It takes time.
@@vehcor well all the crap you have to find collect, get done and then you have to find a new location on top of all the bureaucratic BS you're going through. I know it's going to take a while.
Love this channel. He never lets up on the quality despite all the kidding around.
Commentary keeps me coming back to every video. Plus, the great work you do...
I learned how to repair suspension on my 05' XJR, boy did I pick the wrong vehicle to start learning automotive repair.
On a positive note, everything else will seem so easy. 😂
Fun to watch you struggle in the driveway like some of us do.
You're nailing it, keep the great work!
There was a recall on these. The spring on my 2015 busted before the recall, but Subaru paid for the parts. It wasn't quite so easy when l did it, it was before loaded struts were available for these cars. Thanks for the video!
Since there was no trailer unloading scream, after spotting a piece of candy I thought I was gonna hear the ooh piece a candy phrase 😂😂😂
That job proves you are a real mechanic 👏👏.
Why is it so easy when you do it? You are easily the most organized mechanic that I watch. Keep them coming. Thanks.
Happy Tuesday, Scott!🍻
Same to you!
Yah know, I still wish you had the old shop and all, but these videos have been oddly refreshing and I'm really enjoying it.
Thanks Scott. Sandy and I hope to see you in GA soon!
Love your work Scott
Love your videos….can’t get enough of it….enjoy your talent….
Those are some fine quality chinesum rear struts.
Nice looking ride. Can only imagine what the fronts look like.
Thanks for the video.
Great video enjoy watching keep up the great work
Good update keep it up the good work 👍👍
Thanks, will do!
Awesome content as always!
🥈Thanks!
A shop and house combined into one unit would be ideal. Great video.
Thanks for the video Scott.
Gotta say; I'm kinda liking these quick, easy little jobs!
Scott really enjoy the channel, and my new Vechor tee shirt looks good one when I’m under the hood of another car 😂
You could do another video fixing that bodywork on the ol Subaru even do some painting, lol. Thanks John from Arizona
@vehcor thank you for this video.
Enjoyed your video , thanks.
Who has anything to say to you? You’re the man!!
Anything you put out I will watch ! I cant bc wait till you can a place of your own . even in a small two car garage would be great . can you do the work at Scotts emporiam ? Or is it not allowed to do repairs ? Keep it going buddy !
Great job
Nice Job
Using the jack to assist in driving isn't recommended? Ok, I'll remember that. 😂❤ Thanks for sharing ❤ Great job.
Much easier than the last rear struts I did on my moms CRV. and the loaded struts make everything easier even if the springs are good.
Nice quick fix, for us. You had to wait for parts.
It wasn’t 10 seconds but it was pretty fast. 😂
Was waiting for you to "Toss" the other bad strut and it go BOOM!
I did in the dump trailer but no boom.
Hey that lead paint is a sweet treat
Gee Scott you make it look so easy pizza girl out on deliverys? Thanks for the post🤗😎🤗😎
Love the sarcasm!
The little trim door on the quarter trim is for factory fitted cargo barrier mounts, but no one ever buys them. Aftermarket ones are half the price and easier to fit.
Singing in deep voice, "Swing low, sweet chariot...." LOL.
I love that you can buy a whole strut, ready to fit. I don't think I've ever seen that here in the UK. We'd end up having to buy a shock, spring and top mount separately. Or just change the spring and try to salvage the rest...
They call them quick struts and are cheaper than getting all the parts separately and not much more than the struts alone.
My 9 year old did this same job last week on his sister’s car
''ride height safety'' is unwarranted fear by Vehor paranoia is "SUBARU-ANOIONA"!
A lesson learned is to put tire under car when it is up on a jack. This way when car falls off jack you have room to get jack back under car... Also moves the tire out of your way.
Yea I learned this one the hard way...
Jack stands work too. Unless they are from harbor freight. 😂
Correct ; dog bowl to the front 🤣
Scott...raise it up in the front and put it up for sale in Carolina
Then Whistindiesel will put it in the shredder…. Where it belongs. 😂
@@vehcorthen he sells it in little jars and makes a killing too, everybody wins!
The customer might blame you for the LIGHT SCRATCHES on both her right door that was not there when she left her car for repair.
We love you spend the money!!!!!
Ahhh yes... The UltraPros make it look so easy.....
Last one I did, I put the jack under the shock and started pumping.... Lifted the whole truck off the jack stands.... Sigh....
Nice job. Isn't it fun crawling around on a driveway, like us home gamers???? Heh heh heh! For some of us, that's all we know..... The magical hoist does not exist.... As one of my friends likes to say, "A hoist is like cable TV... If you never had it, you have no idea what you're missing...."
They look like the povo struts not the self level units ? I swapped out my struts and springs after 10 years of service and was honestly impressed with the ease of the job bar the exciting part of using the same tops and playing the lets compress the springs game. Look ma I still got all my teef. Front camber bolts are aids, unless you cheap out and try to mark em your up for a realign every time you touch them. Out of curiosity what did the complete struts cost you ? Love your work.
I see the beater red grand am. Surprised it’s still going 😊
I’ll have an update soon. That car might be around for next winter as well!
@@vehcor I enjoyed the video you made on it. In fact i enjoy your content period
You'll be glad to hear they passed a new law in South Carolina banning vehicles with the "Carolina squat".
While I don’t like squatted trucks or understand why anyone would do that, I really dislike the government telling you what you can/can’t do with your property.
@@vehcorThey said it's a safety concern. Apparently in many cases they squat them so much their visibility is impaired.
@@vehcor Scott this vid was funnier than usual. Really enjoy your descriptions of what is happening.
Detroit Axle, I love Detroit axle quick shipping and reasonable prices.
Forester. Cool
I like Detroit axle
Great job .are you having any luck finding a new building
Subaru had a recall on that problem. It was a no charge fix at the dealer.
Too old, too many miles to qualify.
Funny thing about that ... I had a 14 Forester with the same busted spring problem while it was young enough and had few enough miles to qualify for spring replacement. I brought it to the local Subaru dealer (where I bought it) and they agreed to do it and I asked them to do the shocks at the same time at my expense. They refused! So I got new springs and seven months later the rear shocks crapped out leaking all over the place and I ended up DIYing quick struts myself. Fortunately like Scott said it’s a fairly easy job.
But I had to dump two nearly brand new springs when I put in the quickstruts Friggin Subaru!
@@robstruction In my family we have a 2014 and a 2015 Forester, both were replaced under warranty by Subaru , that was maybe 4 years ago.
Looks like they could also use some new doors on the passenger side
2:19 I was JUST about to say "prob have to pull apart the interior to get to the top bolts" and instead of making through bolts with welded nuts on the body so you could access them from underneath they put in nuts and bolts
3:31 edit, ok, that wasn't TOO bad....
Good old Chicago & rusted out springs!
Keeps us busy!
Do you recommend a specific quick strut brand? Looking to change my camry's one of these days.
In order to do the same job in other cars the only you need to do is taking out the entire interior and the engine too, easy.
Love how you did this yourself. But you did wasted all of your time and did the replacement the long hard way.
The broken coil springs are covered by the WUT-05R recall that covered 14 thru 16 Forester's.
Subaru would have replaced both coils the correct and easy way for free. Niw that you have aftermarket ones on you will not get reimbursed for the repairs.
At least the transmission isn’t junk. Love that prybar…
That prybar comes in handy. If it won’t move something, it doesn’t need to be moved. 😂
Looks like the starboard side of the Subie tangled with tha Death Star.Ripped er wide open.
No reference to parts gone to Nirvana? I didn’t even get one shot of Johnny Walker! 😂
Nope, everything stayed with us. I am going to drop a socket into Narnia if I don’t get that retaining clip replaced. 😂
My knees hurt watching you kneeling on the blacktop.
Detroit Axle!! I see you have a taste for the finer things. 😅 I got a bunch of control arms from them once. They screwed up the order and tried so hard to ignore it. Eventually I got the right parts, thanks to some coercion from eBay... and I guess they haven't exploded yet.
Have you had ok luck with them, overall?
Makes a person wonder what the front springs look like...
I agree, totally dont like the squatted stance.
Subaru had a bad batch of springs the repaired was covered by the dealers
6:10 not only was the weight of the vehicle on the jack but you're on a slope too.
where is the real Scott? who is this impostor? Gloves and a torque wrench, no mobile frame rack/suspension motivator? shh, dont give those weirdo squat vehicle people any ideas. that poor Forester already suffered enough trauma temporarily identifying as squatted
OK OK so yes I missread it too! 😃😃😎😎
"Whoopty do in my Subaru".😆😆😆
Or you could have stuck the bottom in first before bolting on the top. You would still have to get the lower arm to get down a bit, but at least it would be possible to do, as a bonus, you won't need wooden friends.
They really are right about those quick struts giving you the wrong ride height, aren't they. I wonder how bad the ride quality is, vs. stock.
I don't know i am 6ft4 tall solid build i wouldn't mess with those forearms mate
is that common broken rear coil springs
Somehow, I end up here every single day.
I have seen Detroit axel on numerous sites. Are they actually any good? I thought Monroe struts were good. When the struts went out on our 2013 Explorer 3 years ago, I replaced them with Monroe. 1.5 years later they were back creaking. Did the warranty swap and replaced them again. Now just last week the top strut bearings are making an awful sound. So frustrating! Takes me longer to get all the tools out and the Explorer in the air, than actually replacing the darn struts!
I'm not sure if they're any good - I bought sway bar links from them and they were super cheap but they didn't last long - on the other hand, my TBSS eats them pretty regularly.
I found them on eBay a long time ago. I use them when the customer is more concerned with price than anything else. I have never had issues with any of their parts and I usually get them next day.
@@vehcor I figured it was a cost thing. I went with Monroe as I know the brand and never had an issue, until these last two sets. I have seen Detroit Axel, TRQ, Duralast, OEM, and KYB. I might just go with TRQ.
I bought them for a 2004 Eclipse (so basically same as a dodge) when I had the motor out. Bought their control arm/ball joint assembly. Did this in 2020 and last year the R/F ball joint failed but they replaced it under warranty (though I paid shipping). Other then that I have no complaints to be honest. The left front is still night and solid, very minimal rust on them for 4 years old now in southwest PA, and I believe I have around 10-15k miles on them now currently (unsure of mileage for R/F).
@@vehcor After having the daughter behind the wheel, and have her turn it back and forth. I was able to isolate the sound, it is the steering rack. Yep! Needs to be replaced 😡 It was replaced in March 2019, and 120,000 miles ago. They are not cheap, nor is the labor to replace 🤬
Bumpstop and gaiter displaced on NS not your fault you didn’t put strut together 😂😂
I had my rear springs replaced under recall in Canada; the customer could have possibly had this done for free.
Too old, too many miles
13:48 gloves are so you dont transfer oils from your hands to the shiny chrome plated torque wrench...leaving dirty fingerprints...
I would be your friend, Scott.
That right rear quarter needs some buffing?
Subaru has a recall for that
8:58 I used to install closest organizers and custom cabinets in closets and even though you ask the homeowner to clear their stuff out, they don't. Let me tell you some of the stuff I've seen lol....that leather bustier from Fredricks of Hollywood, the whip, and yes, even came across a dildo.....moving crap out of the way along the floor.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr wtf, lol....funny thing was that it wasn't in a box or anything, just tossed onto the bottom of the closet floor. "aren't these things normally located in her nightstand"?
Nice 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thanks ✌
I read Shaggin' wagon at first.....
💥💥🛠️
Those broken struts can join the "perfectly good water pumps" from your UA-cam cousin-to-the-south Eric (I Do Cars). I hope Dr. Afternoon Crew is doing well; I'm also in the DFW area (and hope I don't need her services anytime soon).
Hello Scott. The wheel alignment in the last frame of your video gives the impression the bottom of the tires are closer to the car than the top of the tires. Is that the normal way it should look after you change the struts ? Best regards.
Driving forward a few feet will settle the suspension. It is not the new struts, it is because it was on a jack.
Thank you. I do hope that you can find your future Scott’s Emporium shop very soon.
Looks like my work Nissan Rogue with 600lbs of lead in the back…
I'm curious, are you and Mr Spotty satisfied with Detroit Axle products? I see you using them here and I've considered them on things I've done I'm not asking for an endorsement just kinda your thought.
Use your brain.... just once. He uses them. so use your brain.
And the G8 is out of hibernation. Nice
"This week on Scott's workout..."
Scott, is that air hose from Home Depot by chance? If so, have you tried using it during the winter? Absolute garbage! I feels like it’s gonna shatter in a million pieces!
