not gonna lie, I had no idea this existed until this episode and finding out that Neil Gaiman wrote for Spawn is like finding out that Guillermo Del Toro wrote for Supernatural
Oh, you'd be surprised. Every revered master writer in comics who was active in the 90s has written for Image or Wildstorm schlock at some point. Gaiman wrote for Spawn Miller wrote a Spawn crossover Moore wrote for Spawn AND Wildcats Morrison wrote for Stormwatch And so on. As Salan Moore once said, "we're not above that paycheck"
Here’s hoping she shows up in Immortal Thor (which I’m willing to bet she will - if there’s one thing Al Ewing is good at doing, it’s writing badass LGBTQ+ characters)
@@mttylerdurden9Have you been reading Waller vs. Wildstorm? If not, I think that’ll scratch your itch - it’s a really well-written political espionage thriller that merges the Wildstorm and DC proper continuities in legitimately fascinating ways.
Okay, the best part of the episode is that Ben and Tiffany get more excited over the ads, letter pages and contests, then the actual story being explained.
I had no clue this Angela was the same one that's in Marvel, until Sal mentioned it a while back. Feels like only yesterday but sadly it's been well over 6 years. Time really needs a chill pill. 😅
Two ways that I think can let Angela work well in Marvel is: 1. Have Angela be a magical being and demon hunter. She can be an associate of Doctor Strange, with the two having a classic Black Cat-style flirtation banter dynamic. Also she would have a history hunting Spirits of Vengeance, thus giving her a connection to both Strange and the Ghost Riders. 2. If they want to make her more distinct from her original concept but still retain a similar feel. They could tie her into the recent Knull lore by having her be a member of an order (maybe sisterhood to lean into the wonder woman aspect) of alien warriors that hunt symbiots because of the threat that they pose to the universe. Maybe ever member is a survivor of a world that has been destroyed by symbiots. This would give her a connection to Venom and a more purposeful dynamic with other cosmic characters. Personal I much prefer idea 1. Her interacting with a world of magic that's more rooted in sorcerers but with the mentality of a more brash warrior type could be really fun and funny.
I’m glad Sal was able to keep it together with Buh and Tuh around. It’s weird not seeing Ben and tiffany here, but sometimes ya gotta make the best if what you got😂
My first exposure to her was in guardians of the galaxy, where she just kinda shows up. I was super new to comics and was being introduced to everyone else at the time too, so it wad very much just a moment of "oh cool i guess this is happening" I only found out what her whole deal was years later
Not gonna lie as a very casual spawn fan for years this is also my first time finding out there have been many over the years lol love that concept though
Yeah because they were the only good writers at Image before Brian K. Vaughn and Robert Kirkman came in with stuff like the Walking Dead, Invincible, Paper Girls, and Saga.
If nobody at Marvel is willing to do anything cool with her, then I agree. But only if she gets to bring her wife Sera with her as well. And only if Al Ewing doesn’t want to write her in Immortal Thor (which I can’t imagine he won’t, considering how much he loves playing with continuity.)
@@benparrish672 Honestly I have a lot more respect for Rob Leifeld than I do McFarline. The former has gotten a lot more introspective and grateful in recent years from most things I've heard. @thedukeofchutney468 Todd McFarlane reminds me of people like Bob Kane and Butch Hartman, 3 people think of themselves as these legendary artists that liked claim they made your childhood, but you dig deep into their work you find out that the best stories came from other people like Neil Gaiman, Bill Finger, and Steve Marmel.
@thedukeofchutney468 yet who made the more iconic characters? In that respect McFarlane one. I think part of that was McFarlane was better at designing characters. I’ll be honest, at first when I saw the thumbnail, I thought “Aw man, Spawn this week, really?” But of course my whining was unfounded, and it’s another classic Back Issues!
If my memory of Wizard Magazine serves me correctly, there was either an interview with Toddy Mac where he said Kato Kaelin was the basis for Spawn’s white guy look. It’s also entirely possible I’m remembering wrong and Wizard cast Kato Kaelin as white guy Spawn in their fan cast of a live-action Spawn movie before the live-action Spawn movie existed.
Okay guys glad you did spawn in some fashion love Angela pre coming to marvel because they have yet to do anything with her but here is A quick Question? When Will You Cover The ARMAGEDDON Saga?
Hey Comicpop Crew! I’ve been enjoying the content and silly banter for awhile now. Just wanted to ask, since my girlfriend wants to get into comics, what might be a your suggestions. I’m finding it difficult to find a good jumping off point and because she doesn’t like anything too scary. I appreciate the laughs and good work y’all put in. Thanks again!
Really depends on her interests! What are her favorite movies and books? That'll give you a better starting point. You'll want to look into writers rather than characters or universes, as well.
REAL WORLD CONNECTION?: I am relatively sure the mural Captain Cold sees in inspired by Diego Rivera's "Detroit Industry" mural on the walls of the D.I.A. It is a beautiful piece that takes up multiple walls and is at least worth a Google. Rivera obviously best known for "Man at Crossroads," at Rockefeller Center. Well, I at least thought it was interesting.
It's funny that this is very similar to the Terry Nation and the Daleks vs Dr Who deal. The Daleks were a very hot property but don't work outside of Dr Who.

Yeah, that is Thor! Not sure the other metal hand is Apocalypse though. He has quite distinctive "bracelets". As for the plain yellow glove... It could be anyone, really. Electro? Nova? Booster Gold? Nomad? Dr. Fate? Any X-Man?
Wow. Imagine having the time and energy to spare in life to spend it thinking about Ben 10 long enough to have not just a favourite alien, but a least favourite one too. ...Upchuck.
When I heard the part about Angela choosing to leave after being exonerated, it suddenly hit me. This series must have been Dave Filoni's inspiration for the Clone Wars arc about Ahsoka leaving the Jedi order!
Buh and Tuh are names that encapsulate every bully character from a 90's kids show
Pass the Buh-Tuh
Pass the tuh-buh
Pass the tuh-buh buh-tuh
“Pass the Tuh-Buh of Buh-Tuh, Wal-Tuh.” -Mike Ehrmentrau-Tuh
Damn, I was gonna say that if you put them together they taste great on toast, but y'all beat me to it lmao
Sal, I appreciate your hard-steering the conversation back on topic, despite Buh's and Tuh's best efforts to keep this episode from happening.
Geez, Buh and Tuh on the couch. This strikes are affecting everything! We need to get Tiffany, Ben and Ethan back!

Good News for all the creatures hunted by Angela: You get to Heaven
Bad News: …as wall decorations.
It's been a while since I've seen you comment something. Glad to see you're still kicking around.
It will always be a "batarang caused wound" to me 😢
I like how Marvel’s incorporated her into the Asgardian mythos. But I hate how little they use her.
Agree, they could much with her
But them the breaks of comic shuffled

Same with the wildstorm characters. Barely used by DC, and when they are used it's only for a short time.

Would Angela fit in with the Valkyries? Because if the MCU wants a good spin-off..

I still have two Image crossovers, including that one, that I want to do.
I remember loving this miniseries when I read it. So glad to see it covered.
Glad to hear you give #10 a little love. It gets shit on a lot. But it’s my favorite spawn comic.

Medieval Spawn appeared recently in SUPERMASSIVE 2. A one shot comic crossover from the Massive-Verse (radiant black, rogue sun, etc)
this was hilarious, bravo Sal, Buh, and Tuh!

Gotta wonder what the alternate universe where Angela is sold to Dc comics. Is Angela then a renegade New God with massive Kryptonian errings?

Spawn is basically Batman if he sold his soul to the Devil and became a Ghost Rider, but then also merged with the Venom Symbiot.

Because Neil Gaiman loves Norse mythology
Oh man, I had that series back in the day. I always get Celeste confused with Gabrielle.
