    This band changed my life back in the late 80s and they certainly helped change rock music, paving the way for the “alternative” music explosion that encompassed most of the 90s. They were the first band that I saw live bring together punks, goths, hardcores, hippies, metal heads, new wavers, gays, skaters, surfers, D&D nerds, and virtually any other perceived societal weirdos at that time. Their shows were literally a mish-mash of American subcultures all in one place. Glad you enjoyed it dude. Hope you check out more of their stuff. ✌️

    Finally someone doing Janes Addiction, other great songs by them, Stop, Been Caught Stealing, Jane Says, Mountain Song. Also the singer Perry Farrell is the guy who came up with & started the Lollapalooza franchise tours which brings all types of music genres together. Flea from the RHCP also played in this band. Jane's Addiction, Pixies, The Cult, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone... later on Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Tool...
    and gone were all the Hair Metal posers like Poison, Warrant etc who tried to cash in during the 87-91 MTV period by pretending to be in the same league as Van Halen or Aerosmith.
    Three Days, man, that Navarro guitar solo was so on fire.
    Perry Farrell is also the genius behind the Lollapalooza Festivals.
    Great memories this tune.

    Side note. Janes Addiction was a pretty big and influential band in the early 90s. Pioneers of the alternative rock scene out of LA along with Red Hot Chili Peppers also around the time the Seattle Grunge scene was launching. Been Caught Stealing was played every day on MTV. Dave Navarro is the most recognizable band member. Who was also in Red Hot Chili Peppers for a short while and is now best known for hosting tattoo competition TV shows.

    ‘I am a proud man anyway...’ Their self-titled 1st album is worth listening to too - ballsy to put out such an unusual creation at the beginning. I also really like the new songs featured on the Kettle Whistle compilation in the late 90s. And finally, it's hard to follow a song like this one you're reacting to on an album - but ‘Then She Did’ is a (more understated) epic in its own right.

  • @_portis
    @_portis 3 роки тому +19

    Then She Did by Jane's Addiction is a gem. I listened to JA back in the day as much as i listened to Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. The lyrics were printed in the cassette, and you are basically reading poetry to music. It's hard to think that from just reading the lyrics that you can put it to music.

      Agreed. Then She Did is my favorite song by any band ever.. the structure, pace, instrumentation, etc. is fantastic, but the song is so meaningful and embraces pain/loss in such a wonderful, simple, straightforward way. It's original title was "Then She Died", but the record label pushed to change it.. the song itself is a tribute to his mom (suicide) and his girlfriend (OD).

    Thank You for reacting to Jane's Jay. A treat. One of my Top 5 bands ever alongside Tool, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
    The first two studio albums, Nothing Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual, are complete masterpieces. Personal faves are Mountain Song, Three Days, Obvious, Classic Girl, Jane Says, Summertime Rolls, Oceansize, Ted Just Admit It, Pigs In Zen
    Jane's Addiction are;
    Perry Farrell (Vox)
    Dave Navarro (Gtr)
    Eric Avery (Bass)
    Stephen Perkins (Drums)
    Chris Chainey replaced Eric on Bass on later albums
    One of the finest live bands I've ever seen. Been to over 1700 shows in my life and they are Top 10.

      And if I could recommend another band for a reaction, check out the Mars Volta. Specifically their album De-Loused in the Comatorium. The entire album is a masterpiece but the song "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt" really is a good intro to what they’re all about.

    Three Days is an EPIC song of massive importance and groove. It breathes, it grows, it lives. But how could anyone NOT know about Jane's Addiction?? Oh - they are good.

    There is a lot of layering and ear candy in this song, it gets better with each listen. We used to smoke herb and get lost in the tribal drumming and bass, the song becomes a pseudo religious experience when you are familiarized with it.

      Really? I've seen that film >10 times, and I don't remember it. Maybe it was just overshadowed by the *splendid* and transcendent use of The Pixies "Wave Of Mutilation (U.K. Surf Mix)."

      @@LeshaAnn Yeah, 'Three days' song is in there. Not sure what part of the movie it's featured (haven't seen it in awhile) but it's in there (unless i'm thinking of a diff movie but I'd be shocked if that's the case)

    Janes is a great band. The band members have played in side projects with members of Nirvana, RHCP, Foo Fighters, and Guns and Roses, and probably others as well. The lead singer of Grateful Dead back in the early 90s said that Janes Addiction was one of the only “new” bands that was creating authentic new music.
    With that being said have you reacted to Grateful Dead? If not , may I recommend “China Cat Sunflower -into- I Know You Rider ? The version off the 1972 Europe tour.
