- Uncle Bucko got himself in a jam trying to put a power steering pump on Dennys Big Block 68 Camaro, and Billy’s Nova makes it first pull ON BOOST! But will the Nova be ready for this weekend???

Just got me a powerglide from vickers and a 501 converter for my sbf 88mm turbo, just got it together and running but haven't went down the road yet, I told dion I watch your guys channel and that's why I trust him to build a good trans and he did it pretty quick for me

Making great progress on the Nova, I had a high volume/high pressure oil pump with a ten quart oil pan on my 428cj in my 67 Fairlane GTA and it had the same problem until put restrictors in the block. Would have 100psi cold and even up to temp would still be 85 but slow down to idle after a pull and it would drop to 25 until the restrictors fixed it, would still drop from 85 but only to 65. Good luck with the Malibu, I hope the rear end holds together for ya. Good luck to Kenny also. Go fast and be safe! God bless you and your family and friends Bill.
happened to be up late glad I was. good stuff Bill. fun fact I had a Heat stroke in 2019 driving one of those Gruman's for the post office in 2019 it was Amazon Sunday and the temperature outside was 116 you can just imagine what it was in the mail truck with no AC almost killed me. the Post Office here was a holes about it. I quit and never looked back.

Steve Morris just did a video about oil pressure on the 540 he built for cleetus. Changed main bearings for tighter clearance and put restrictors at the turbos.

Just watched steve morris checking bearings on mullet recommended 3/8 to 1/2 inch clearance between pan and pickup same style oil pump. Just passing it along. Great work all steel front end looks awesome

Hands down better than any network TV show by far!! On the oil pressure issue, it seems that the oil is not returning to the pan fast enough causing starvation. I've seen issues with the lower oil return passages in the cylinder heads being blocked by the head gaskets return passages not lining up, too small, or just plain not being there at all. All the oil is staying in the valve covers and just enough returns to the pan thru the push rod holes. Might be something to look at next time the valve covers are off.

Might want to check the bypass in that oil pump to make sure it’s not sticking causing low pressure and also the tolerance in the main bearings could be a little too open as well causing low pressure as well. Just tossing out ideas. I’m sure y’all have it under control though. Looking forward to seeing the nova put in work💪🏻

Hey guys love the content!! For the oil pressure isue I often run an extra qrt of oil when I use a hig pressur pump so when the top end fils with oil I still have 2" of oil in the pan. Windage should not be a issue since the pump will clear out the excess oil as soon as it starts
And also check dipstick length it might be to long!! I've seen guys chasing their tails because of a damn dip stick
Steve Morris just made a video diagnosing a low oil pressure issue on Mullet. Very informative from an engine builders perspective.

You can see what he did...a lot of work but worth it. Can't wait to see this thing go down!! Hope this helps.

I wasn’t quite sure how to tell you this other than on a posted video! 😂
Need some pan or block restrictors to help with the oil pressure, but I would talk to your engine builder first those big blocks are a different animal. When I ran a 540 BBC we had about 130 psi and the top of the run and when I pulled the chutes it would drop 80 psi. If I remember right we used 70 weight Oil with a pretty deep sump. But yes suspension looked good got a lot separation and if you decided to every go big tire you have the car to do it. You and big Rob have done an awesome job putting it together. But make sure you nut and bolt everything before you beat the crap out of it on the streets. Stay safe and if you every need any help let me know, we are neighbors.
Things happen for a reason and for sure a good thing the first attempt at a pass didn't work out! Would really suck to tear up a new engine on the first pass. I'm sure you guys will get it figured out soon! Keep up the good work!

You've probably got this suggestion many times and have prior experience with your DART block, but low volume-High or low pressure oil pump with priority oiling. If you use a high volume pump it will load the top end and stare the pump (oil pressure drop). maybe trap doors like you think but while off check the pump. It is so good to see family and friends enjoy yourselves.

We had a similar oil pressure problem on our dart small block, put restrictors in to limit oil to the top end and improved the oil pressure

Steve Morris was dealing with this on Cleetus’s El Camino. With the dart block the main tolerances grow when it’s warm and lose quiet a bit of pressure. He changed the main bearings only and got the oil pressure back up. Not sure what yours is set up as but just throwing that out there. Not saying your wrong by any means.

Hey Bill I have a hunch and it may be dropping pressure but this issue is common....and alot of the time it's a faulty reading....so if you can get a pressure gauge somewhere down closer to the pump it'll help you see what's going on...if he is dropping the pressure the restrictors are the ticket....but you should go back to the high volume pump

Really enjoy you guys’ channel just thought I’d share the power steering pump canister that’s in the Camaro was used on 60 789 big block Chevelle’s they’ll fit anything was the score type canister usually only fits stock brackets and small blocks
And ol Bucko may have enjoyed his victory ice cream for a while but boy did this video tear that story to pieces. Maybe check the clearance of the oil pump pick-up in relation to the pan? I know if it is too close to the pan it can create issues pressure wise. Whatever the case may be Billy and crew has done a fantastic job on that car.

You giving tommy recording everything that’s wrong and joking about it and your sure could tell that billy is really relaxed about everything well both of and it’s good to see that haven’t seen it for awhile . You could tell everyone is excited with the nova and billy want to race it already and then uncle bucko and mark love all the videos and thanks for letting us all take the ride along the way
