HOW to Turn OFF 📶5 GHz to Connect Smart Devices to 2.4 GHz

  • There’s an issue I've ran into and I know a lot of you have run into it as well. And that’s trying to set up a smart home device that specifies that it needs a 2.4 gigahertz connection. But the device just isn’t connecting and it won’t seem to work.
All you need to do is temporarily turn off your 5 GHz and this quick video shows you how.
Once you turn off the 5 GHz connection, the set up should go fine.

Hi, I'm on sky and it's not like that, no on/off like you have, instead under the 2.4 wireless header it's got 'synchronize 2.4 & 5 and an on/off option & the same under the 5ghz header, I got my security camera connected but then my phone and other devices would go onto 2.4 so Iv gone back into it to see if a setting isn't right but now my security camera is offline and I'm totally stuck what to do, synchronize or not 🤷🏼‍♀️ why isn't sky settings as simple as the on/off you have there🤦🏼‍♀️

I made three calls to optimum Internet provider and try to troubleshoot a Moen leak detector that I have since come to find out runs on 2.4. These people could not figure out their way out of a paper bag. They send a technician out to my house. The guy could not wait to leave he did absolutely nothing. If it doesn’t involve changing a router he’s clueless. Thanks for your help this was very helpful

This video was perfect! I spent some time trying to connect my new robovac to my 2.4GHz wifi. Although, my phone was only connected to 2.4G, it would not connect. I watched your video, logged into my router, suspended 5G and voila. It took about 2 minutes. 2.4GHz product users everywhere need to see this. Most are unaware that, although their controlling device is only connected to 2.4GHz, having a dual band router somehow confuses the device being connected and the connection just won't occur. Thank you for your tech advice. Liked and subscribed.

With all the aggravation I've been having if this works this simple I'm going to be extremely grateful with you and will be making 3 phone calls to the useless people I've spoken to for the last 3 days and tell them to get another job with a few choice words thrown in. I thank you in advance because the router is in my daughters room and she was awake when I started my final push hours ago with cable, linksys, and some other teck guy named Bob from India. If you cannot get to your browser to turn it off, you can try this: once you phone is selected to work on 2.4ghz, it may still be getting a 5ghz signal. So walk away from the routers signal until it looses connection, then start walking back, and it should only connect to 2.4ghz wifi.

  • @shannenposadas8416

OR 3RD OPTION: if you have an older device like a dell laptop or something, they most commonly use the 2.4ghz frequency and you can check using the wifi options information section.
I set my laptop(uses 2.4ghz) right next to my Roborock while pairing to my wifi and my Roborock caught onto the 2.4ghz frequency my laptop was in. I was still in the 5ghz zone but it caught onto my 2.4ghz frequency just fine and connected without me having to go onto this website or go outside the 5ghz zone :) like the comment if it works!

Should work with any router but the process may differ and the IP address may not be the same.

Hi, I saw you commented a few days ago and hope you would be able to help. I don't have the option to turn off the bands individually. Only as the whole wifi? Have they changed how they do this? I can the see the different bands in advanced settings, should I the name of 2.5ghz to something different and connect my phone to it then do setup process for smartdevice and then rename back to the original? Would that work? Please help!

Does this work out ok long term? Like the devices stay connected to the 2.4 even when 5ghz is back on

Once they're connected to 2.4, they stay connected. I've had mine connected to 2.4 for years and they never lost connection.

Just split your networks it will run better. Let your device choose which network. 😊

Just make sure you are using the router user name and password and not the wireless network name and wireless password.
