    That school counselor should be either fired or suspended for talking to the child like that without the parents present.

    • @Kimberly_Sparkles
      @Kimberly_Sparkles 5 місяців тому

      The parent should contact the ACLU. They violated the child's right to freedom of religion because they believed he practiced witchcraft. The district should be sued for a civil rights violation and the counselor, if licensed as a counselor, should lose their license.
      It's even worse that they did this over the Harry Potter movie.

    The irony, the child mom is salty because "believes" where pushed into her child. Meanwhile she is clearly pushing her believes on the whole class and school. Pot kettel black

    NTA, but OP should have stormed down to the school first to find out what nonsense they'd been fed and read the counselor the riot act! They need to back off, otherwise they are forcing the other mother's beliefs onto OP and her son! Confronting the other mom is OP's choice, but people like that are like talking to a brick wall and not worth the effort - but do LOVE the curse she threatened that mouth breather with.

    Hi there. When the first Harry Potter came out, I was working my first job out of college as a high school teacher (not what I studied for, but I needed a job and they gave me that one). I had two colleagues who were extremely religious, who chastised the kids for talking about the movie or wearing merchandise of the franchise.
    They wanted to bring a pastor to the school, but the principal "privately dissuaded then" (she yelled at them in her office, but so loudly that everyone in the teachers' lounge one floor up heard everything).
    So, yes, there's plenty of people out there who are unable to understand the concept of fiction.

    I worked at a store that sold the books when they were coming out. It was a daily thing to go look through the copies on the shelves to remove cards for local churches and other things like that inserted into them. I have seen protests against the books and even had one guy threaten to assault me for selling them. It takes a special kind of crazy to think Harry Potter will turn someone evil, but they are out there.

    NTA. I bet that mom wasn't allowed to watch Harry Potter as a kid so she's jealous of anyone who does. Or she's ignorant of the franchise and thinks it's real 'witchcraft' lol

      Based off of the words this lady said to op, I think she 100% believes that the magic in Harry Potter is real witchcraft. The reason is, I had a similar experience as a kid, I got into watching the Harry Potter movies & went to watch some with my sitter. That woman was a hardcore Bible thumper & at one point while we were watching the movie together she told me in all seriousness to "Not practice any of the spells in the movie" because I would "get sent to Hell." 🙄
      Edit: I was raised by my Catholic mom, who had NO issues with me watching the movies, she even bought me copies of the first two books. We watched all the movies together & recently watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy together.

      You need to watch Jesus Camp. There are absolutely Christians that think Harry Potter is evil and is going to "turn their children to witchcraft". The whole thing is nonsense. Probably heard it at church too.

    I had a friend who's minister told his congregation that Harry Potter was evil, blah blah blah and that I shouldn't let my children read the books. So I decided to read the first Harry Potter book. Absolutely loved it. Harry Potter was so evil he celebrated Christmas and met a Christmas Angel. My husband and children read the first book. Now some background on my youngest. He got good grades in English as a matter of fact by the age of 10 he was correcting me. He just did not enjoy reading. Until the Harry Potter books. He loved them. He would reread every book before reading the newest one. He did that with every book! If I ever meet J.K.Rowling I would tell her "Thank you!" for writing these books that encourage kids to read.
    Now here's the funny part, my friends husband and sons loved the Lord of the Rings' movies. Go figure!

    OMG! OP hug your kid and tell him he is not evil! Then march down to the school with your lawyer and have a meeting with the counselor and the principal to set everything straight! The school will not pay that much attention to you without your lawyer present. Tell them that they should not have said anything to your son without calling you first to discuss the situation and now your son is being bullied because of all of this.

    Good grief, NTA! OP, you should have taken a WAND with you to make the curse seem more believable. It's too bad your son ran into someone like that at his age, even worse that she's trying to make his life difficult at school.

Sadly the lady was not willing to be reasoned with, she got frustrated no normal communication would work, so she cursed her. Funny recourse give the circumstances, I think.

    Do coyotes try to drop safes on unsuspecting roadrunners? Do legos live in cities and go on adventures? Are there men, and women, out there in tights with super powers saving the world? Jedis flitting across the universe saving planets?
    If your 10 yr old cannot tell the difference between fantasy and real life that is on you as a parent.
    Watching HP isn't "forcing beliefs" on children, it is giving a child's imagination free rein and entertaining them.
    Were I OP every other day I'd send my kid to school in HP tshirts and give that school counselor a dressing down.
    The only one here pushing their beliefs out there is that poor friends mother who is raising a bully in her own self righteous beliefs.

    The other kids are going along with it because it seems like a game, but once they had enough they are going to easily turn against the religious kid. Is the school a religious school, or in a very religious area? If not OP really needs to talk to the principle, as it sounds like the councilor is a friend of the other mom.

    OP is the askhole (🙄) as is Dusty and Candy Thunder and here’s why:
    1. Dusty and Candy made an assumption and held onto it like it was true. The OP never mentioned the other mother going to the school to complain about OP’s child. They assumed it was the mom and it colored their advice from there on out. I like their channel, but they have a tendency to not understand the words they are reading out loud into a microphone. Bless their hearts, but their reading comprehension skills aren’t that high. That snowball becomes an avalanche in the comments section
    2. OP is an askhole (🙄) for going to the uptight mother’s house. OP needed to go to the school and ask the counselor who told them OP’s son was pushing his beliefs onto others. It could have been the “friend” went to the counselor himself or told the teacher something and the teacher sent the “friend” to the office. The teacher could have seen there was conflict between the boys and sent them both to the counselor to talk about it and the counselor saw the “friend” first. OP needed to untangle that bucket of snakes first and foremost. If it was the “friend” telling the school counselor OP needs to give the counselor the full story of what happened before telling the counselor to never tell my kid to do or not do anything ever again until they call and talk to me first. The counselor dropped the ball because they didn’t gather enough evidence on the situation with the boys. That is why the counseled can’t be trusted and they need to remember the feeling of being told they’re untrustworthy so they can learn from their mistakes. OP then can go to the other mother’s house. However, OP needs to drop that attitude and take another approach. OP should have nicely asked the other mother if they could talk real quick. Let the other mother know it was never your intention to expose her child to something they believe goes against their religion. OP would tell other mother if they knew about their family’s deeply held religious beliefs beforehand that she would have made sure to respect other mother’s wishes to not expose the “friend” to anything other mother finds objectionable. OP would then ask for other mother to tell “friend” to stop spreading lies about OP’s son being evil. It was a misunderstanding between families and OP’s son is deeply hurt and confused by “friend’s” 180° turn from friend into enemy. Ask other mother what can she (OP) do to fix their misunderstanding and mend the friendship between their boys. Either other mother softens and tells OP or other mother rejects OP’s sincere apology and rebukes OP in the name of Jesus. If the former, awesome! OP saved her son’s friendship and the other mother’s son can be exposed to normal people when visiting over at OP’s. That’s important because that kid needs to be around normal as much as humanly possible. If other mother chooses the latter OP should apologize for taking up other mother’s time and wish other mother’s family well as OP leaves. This is where OP will start teaching her son about “friend’s” crazy religious beliefs and role play some comebacks when “friend” tries to bully him and turn everyone against him at school. The world is a hard place and OP’s son needs to learn how to fight back verbally and physically. It would be neglectful of OP if she didn’t help her son develop some thicker skin

    • @keplersdream901
      @keplersdream901 5 місяців тому

      Sweetie-cakes, it is YOUR reading comprehension that isn't very high. In fact, it's mediocre at best, illustrated by your willful misunderstanding of circumstantial evidence and gratuitous use of run-on sentences in your so-called explanation.
      1) It was demonstrated, via both the former friend AND OP independently, that the mother already had a problem with OP prior to the incident with the school counselor. Even if it had been Daddy who went to the counselor, the origin was the same -- the parents. Why? Because the former friend said, "I'm not allowed to play with OP's son. He's evil." That's not something that a kid would normally say; that's something the PARENTS would say or encourage him to say. This is Parenting 101. In fact, the counselor emboldened the harassment by intervening.
      2) At no time during the second visit did the mother deny that she had encouraged her son to harass OP's son at school. In fact, if you actually listened and weren't trying to defend the "Christian Mommy," you'd have heard that she ADMITTED IT. It was a confession.
      3) I do agree that OP should have gone to the school administration rather than confront the Psycho Mommy directly. However, the outcome would have been soundly negative. If OP lives in the Bible Belt or a conservative area, she and her son would always be at fault. And even if they live in a more progressive area, they'll be seen as outcasts because others in the community do.
      Per your crap comment about the kid growing "thicker skin," sweetie-cakes, maybe you Christians ought to follow your own precepts, especially when you bitch and moan about how oppressed you are, even though you are usually the ones burning people at the stake or sending them to the gas chambers. And maybe, just maybe, you ought to read that Bible a bit more closely; I'd highlight passages such as Luke 6:37, Matthew 5:22, and Matthew 6:6-7.
