I'm feeling way better about the color of my old fluid now. Overall great video. Informative and straight forward. Good camera work and lighting. Thanks!
Buy a Trooper, they said. It'll be fun, they said. Filling that damn trans on the ground, in the dirt, without a pump is hell. The designers were pure evil! I use a bug sprayer bottle now. I conquered the evil! LOL
We know the struggle too well lol... spoiled with our lift after years of filling it on the ground. Good call on the bug sprayer, you definitely beat the evil :joy:
Had a transmission leak on my 2001 rodeo, so I did my main transmission pan gasket twice and my shift shaft seal 3 times and then saw where it was actually leaking. Between the 2 pans. Transmission has to come out and be taken apart to fix it. It would be nice to have a lift instead of doing all this on my back in the dirt. I recently bought a 2000 Honda Passport (same vehicle) and it started intermittently shifting funny. So I just did all this to it last weekend. Now it shifts great except for OD. it won't stay in 4th gear once it gets over 50mph. I'm going to try installing new shift solenoids this weekend. Fingers crossed! Spending a small fortune on Transmission fluid.
Sure wish I would have watched this video first. I dropped the cross bar without any support on the transfer - nothing "fell out", but it sat overnight until I could get back up under it and put it on - then I realized why one side was going on and the other wasn't. Had to get a jack up under it and lift it until it was on. Also, I was totally ignorant that there was another "smaller pan" forward of the larger pan. I didn't drain it. No wonder I didn't get too much out when I drained it. I started filling the large pan and once I got about 3 qts in we started the trooper - kept filling. Once i hit about 5 quarts the fluid started gushing out. I hurried up and put the fill plug back in. Should I have let it drain just a little bit more? Will too much fluid in the tranny be bad? This is a work in progress - haven't taken it for a ride yet - not sure if too much fluid will screw anything up and I'm trying to find an answer.
GDit too late I already snapped the cross member bolts lol at least this confirmed the correct way to do it. ONLY video I've found that emphasizes supporting the drivetrain. Lesson learned... Now for bolt extracting :(
If the transmission mated to the 3.0 diesel is a 4l30E that resembles the one in the video, then yes. If not the concept would be the same but we can't go into detail as we are unfamiliar with the diesel troopers.
Is that the 10mm socket you found in the f250 by chance? or saving that one for a back up? also you don't need a Torque wrench just 2 or 3 uga duggas from a 1/2 inch drive impact will do the trick. I am a pro I do this stuff for a living. 😁
Idk if u noticed the video stopped but just asking do i fill the box before starting the car and then a final fill as u wouldnt wanna run it dry or can u just start the car straight up and then fill
@@tommyscardetailing3981 You never run a transmission dry. Fill it. warm up and fill again once warm while vehicle is running. In park of course. Or it will not have enough fluid to shift properly. Heat seems to be an issue with these transmissions. Think I will try synthetic. Good luck.
Where are yall located at? I'm up in Charlotte NC and just bought an 01 Trooper. Just replaced the tranny and I'm looking for some guidance on replacing quite a few items. The vehicle wasn't treated very well before my ownership, so I'm replacing everything from gaskets to cooler lines to the suspension.
Great video. I gotta do my tranny filter, and why wouldn’t I replace the shift seal? Only problem I’m finding is I’m in Canada and the parts ppl won’t ship here. But at least I know how…
It is widely recommended that one does not flush these transmissions. Just a drain and refill. Quite a bit of people have had trans issues shortly after flushing a high milage unit that has missed a lot of the maintained intervals.

Ouch, sorry to hear that, hope you're able to extract them
Im wondering if a 92 2wd auto trans will mount to a 2000 2wd auto
Hey, thanks alot for doing this. I’m restoring my Dads Trooper. Has a 3.0 Diesel. Is the process same with Diesels??

Random question but anyway I can buy or borrow that shift shaft seal tool??😅
No need to mess with the cross member, good video tho... debating on whether i want to mess with the shift shift shaft seal while im in there
Hola buenas tardes de casualidad tendrán el modelo del retén de la palanca de cambios que reemplazaron?
You should make a mention that you filled the pan before starting it up... Video transition seems like you replaced the pans and started it.... Dry

Yeah it had some copywrite music on it and youtube "fixed" it
@@REVNREDMEDIA yea thats okay and yea do i fill the box with the motor not running till it drips out then do a final fill with the car running

The tooltopia link does not work anymore. The cheapest I can find for this tool is over $100 on eBay...

Have you checked out rockauto.com? I believe they ship up there.
if the seal looks good, no cracks, damage or sweating fluid i would say replacement is optional.
Just wait untell you need to do a t-stat or the driver's side valve cover gasket
Done a starter yet? It's awesome...
I think its better to use a synthetic DEXIII instead of DEXVI which is thinner. There are a few brands compatible.
If you wants to be in charge got to learn how deal with other people working with you.
Are you sure you do not flush these?

😂 “no spillage”
Shhhhhh you saw nothing!
