What I actually loved the most about this Kill Count was the references that James made to SMG's other roles. Such as saying that she got attacked by a killer with "Cruel Intentions" and then saying that she got "Scooby Doo cased" up the stairs. It's little things like that which prove that James really does know a lot about the movies and actors that he talks about.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favorite show. I love the Scream VI trailer. Tara dangling over the balcony. My favorite shot of the trailer.
I think I will always be conflicted with my regards to Randy being killed off. On one hand, I get it. The stakes were tremendously risen and it got the desired reaction. On the other hand, was it too soon? There were still a lot of places the character could go. Kevin Williamson even said himself fairly recently.
If he'd survived this film, they would've had to give him a romance with Sidney, I'm totally convinced of it. There's only so long you can carry on an unrequited crush story before it become tedious, and midway through Scream 2 was a good point to move on. If I were writing it, I would've had him survive the way Tatum did in 4, then have him be a major part of the production we see in 3. Give him a boost of confidence and a more take-life-by-the-horns attitude after a second near-death experience, which contrasts Sidney's self-isolation and fear caused by repeated traumas. Be clear that he's expressed his love for her in between films, but they're still just friends, though kind of in that almost-but-not-quite-dating phase. Sidney's still figuring things out and battling with trust issues. That kind of stuff is difficult to do properly, though, just as difficult as killing him off was. I think I lean towards the latter since we know they were able to pull it off in the end.
@@unknown_limes I don't think so. I think he could've just as easily gotten over her and just been a real friend with his own story arcs. Sad they didn't go that route. He was the most relatable character for most. I'm a girl and I still related to him more than any of the female characters in the first two movies.
Ive never realized how much a movie set is so personal and authentic. It really seems like everyone on the set was having a great time while making a great movie
As someone who's directed movie sets, I'm a firm believer in the idea that the love u show ur cast and crew will be reflected in the final cut of the film.
It makes sense that Jamie Kennedy randomly did the British voice. It was established during the fountain scene in part one that he enjoys deploying different accents sporadically when he does a Jerry Lewis one. Totally fits the character and as someone that does the same thing, makes me love the character even more.
Lmao I feel like I’m the only one who loves that Jamie Kennedy randomly delivered his lines with a British accent 😂😂 I love the way Neve goes with it like she’s used to him doing that sh*t 🤣 it added depth to the characters history of friendship to me 🤗
@@plantrulz223 YES!! I just rewatched the original a few months back and noticed that immediately! It solidified my love of that scene and his acting decision for that moment!! Shout out to Jamie Kennedy for tracking that character trait between films even when it wasn’t in the script 🤣🤣
12:54 I just love how David and Neve nail this scene with expressions alone. The way Dewey looks at her, then the way you can just tell in Sidney's eyes that she is completely devastated that it looks like history is repeating itself.
I think this is an impressive sequel based solely on the facts that it was made within a year, and it survived a leaked script online. Kudos to the cast & crew for what they accomplished!
Billy’s mom being the killer is hands down the best idea possible for a killer in Scream’s direct sequel. It gives a reason for Billy’s psychotic behavior, being hereditary, and it also provides a sense of familial love between Billy and his mom. Billy’s motivation in the first movie was because he felt Sidney’s mom was responsible for his mom walking out of his life, and Ms. Loomis was so torn up over the death of her son that she went on a murder rampage herself. It’s such a beautifully written tragedy.
Dewey completely dropped his head & look too cut up to talk about Tatum when Gale mentioned her during the death count recap right before Ghostface calls her & Randy takes the call, so they did acknowledge his grief. He looked like he was still too sad to even talk about it.
He didn't find out she IS dead in scream 1. And in scream 2 one year have pass. So after that we Just got some hints about his sadness about It, the most simbolic to me is when he sabes sam's yong sister in 5 when he couldn't save Tatum.
if the first scream wasnt such a classic, scream 2 would 100% be my favorite. it all just works so well. from the compexity of the plots to the amazing characters.
I think the reason Mickey’s twist worked so well for me is because I’m such a big fan of Timothy Olyphant that I just didn’t want to believe he was the killer. Also his performance after the reveal is absolutely outstanding. I genuinely believe he’s the most dangerous killer in the franchise because he has nothing to lose, in his eyes
Yeah. Mickey was fantastic. While Billy messed with Sidney's emotions, Mickey messed with her head. He constantly sewed seeds of doubt in her mind about Derek. Scream 2 gets unfair hate for him "disappearing" for a lot of the film, but if you've watched all the films, the writers do it with so many characters. It really isn't uncommon for characters to disappear and then conveniently pop up after a character cool-down to make them seem suspicious. It's a BS nitpick when other entries get a free pass for similar a thing.
@@AdrianDiasZa I do think it’s valid, but it simply didn’t bother me. I just wanted Timothy to not be the villain so bad because I love him in almost everything he’s in. He gave me Cobb Vanth, who’s one of my favorite Star Wars characters ever. But I’m kinda happy he was the killer because his performance was fantastic
In these film's I noticed they give us a "lay up" or easy killer and then a surprise twist killer. The first one Stew being an easy choice and Billy being the surprise only because we thought he was dead. In Scream 2, Mickey was the easy call because he disappeared halfway through the movie. I didn't suspect Mrs. Loomis though. I thought she would get killed.
I love the cafeteria scene, Sidney needed a spontaneous moment of joy that wasn’t trying to kill her, she needed a break, so i think the hate is undeserved
Honestly I really wish it was just a nice, quiet, one on one heart to heart scene with her and the bf. Like less goofy and more emphasis on what a pillar of support he is for Sydney so it would be more impactful when he does get killed.
It was incredibly dorky, but love makes us all do incredibly dorky things sometimes. It was very human and embarrassing and wholesome and something they could've laughed about into their 80s... ouch, I just depressed myself.
I love the character development that Gale goes through in the Scream series. At the end of the first one she was giving a news report on what happened at Stu's house, in this one she goes with Dewey to the hospital to be there for him. I understand why Wes Craven was angered by the script leaks, I also can't stand leaks on the internet and I never give those people attention.
It’s not a reference to anything. It’s a play on words. Bury more. Barrymore. Get it? Because her name is Barrymore. Our education system has gone to hell
@@richardcrew417 eh, it would’ve been repetitive to keep having the core 3 survive AGAIN, and out of all three, Dewey was the one that had to go. I do think the characters’ reaction to his death could’ve been better.
I'll be honest, that single moment makes me love Liev Schreiber. I've always liked his work but his excitement that his dog got a walk on in the movie is adorable.
Fun fact: My dad owns the mailbox that Patrick Dempsey stood next to on the set of Stab. That mailbox was also used in front of Sydney's real house in the original Scream. I believe you can see Courtney Cox in front of it in the original. (It is on a white wooden stand, the mailbox itself is black and has "Prescott" painted on both sides with the red flag on it.) Every time I see it I think of the Kill Count and how I saw it in the original Scream kill counts.
26:44 to 27:18 I can’t not express how funny and great that reference was And seeing both Chelsea and Zoran cameo just made it better. Every time they show up at the end or during a kill count , it’s fine so creatively and comedically .

What I like is that Elise Neal and Duane Martin's adlibs and thoughts on their characters were heard. They really were my favorite characters in the movie
Mickey is an S tier Ghostface, all of his dialogue post reveal is absolutely fantastic. “Boyfriend, killer, boyfriend, killer 🤨” Also Derek’s song and dance is charming because of how cringe it is. Love that part!
You easily deserve to hit 10 million subscribers just from this video alone James. The ending with Chelsea and Zoran was phenomenal but this video could potentially have my favourite line of yours of all time, when Sarah Michelle Gellar is being killed - "Daphne goes Splatne" Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Have a cigar.
I love that Scream 2 addresses the PTSD of the surviving characters. there's a certain atmosphere and palpable sense of impending doom maintained in the movie that's kinda missing in the subsequent sequels. I think that's what makes it my favorite in the franchise.
this is a rare example of a sequel being rushed but not bad in ANY way, i love this movie and every time i watch it i get nostalgia from when i was little, watching it after school and loving that one scene where the mask is at the bottom of a pit in the theater later on when gale gets thrown down into the pit
Scream 2 is easily the best sequel in my opinion. The level of horror and comedy is perfectly balanced in this movie. It also retains the same feel as the original the best out of all the sequels, given it was made so soon after the first. Randy speaking in a British voice isn't all that odd when you compare it to the first one when he makes that voice when talking about the liver in the mailbox. It's just a quirk of his. And his misquote about the Aliens line I always just took as a joke. Like he was meaning to misquote for a laugh.
I can't wait to see James breakdown Scream 3 next week and explain why it goes from his least favourite to second favourite! I do love how opinions about films can change so drastically after each viewing.

Joel is like that one guy that plays RPG video games who actually uses the Flee action, and doesn’t just try to tough out every fight and lose all of his resources
The "to the numbers" bit is definitely one of my favorites, as well as this kill count/recount. Partially because it's scream, other parts because of the humor and references
Really love Scream 2 for the representation! We get 4 black characters with fun and interesting personalities and memorable moments. Love the blacks in horror chat Maureen and Phil are having at the start. Halle has some funny and supportive moments as does Joel! Also the one redeeming thing about the cafeteria scene is Sid’s face. Just look at her and ignore the rest lol. She’s so damn happy and we never see her this expressively happy again. Loved seeing our girl get a moment of levity, love and laughter after what she’s been through❤
I have watched this video probably a dozen times and I just now caught the Deadwood reference for Timothy Olyphant. This is why I love James's videos, always something new to make the viewing better
Scream 2 is definitely one of the best sequels, not just in horror but for any franchise. From numerous script rewrites and being released less than a year after the first, it's a miracle it turned out the way it did and that's thanks to a lot of the returning creative forces and cast, very rarely does it happen with a sequel. It's not my favorite, but still pretty solid The recount episodes really show how far this channel has come and are definitely worth watching.
Since DeadMeat goes into the background of production and such, I thought I would share a really neat fact about the opening scene! At 3:59 you can see the ghosts flying over the audience, which in the full shot pans out to the people pulling them on reels (as well as a slightly later shot where a man removes the cover to the projector). Those people are not actors - they're the real SFX team members!
Scream 2 will always be my favorite I especially love the scene when Sid is rehearsing the play I loved how Wes frames that scene also love that Sid wears the Greek letters into Scream 3
Love this sequel to death, Gale improves so much as a character in this and her chase scene is one of the best in horror history, also i never not gonna be heartbroken everytime i see Randy getting killed, he was my favorite character ever 💔
To everyone at DeadMeat. I just want to say thank you so much. Scream is my favorite Horror franchise, and to see them get recounted and redone with extra love has really gave me so much to look forward to on Fridays. So I just wanted to say thank you for all the effort you all put in
Something funny I remember as a kid was that I suspected mickey for some reason and really liked Mickey's line, "boyfriend, killer? Boyfriend, killer?" And laughed when at the way he said, "Billy's mother!"
Having the regular scheduled Kill Counts have been making my long work weeks worth it. Thank you to everyone involved with Dead Meat for doing a phenomenal job, as always ❤️
the thing that terrifies me the most about horror movies are the kills that take place in crowds. people are so often unaware of what's happening around them that, people have actually been murdered in crowds and people either don't notice or they DO but just stare because of the bystander effect
I used to be so scared of the opening scene to this one. The opening to the first Scream was chilling, but the way Maureen’s scream echoed and her facial expressions as she died scarred me for a while, haha.
Yes! Just the idea of dying in front of a crowd of cheering people who ignore your attempts to get help is such a creepy idea. One of the most memorable and disturbing kill in the franchise imo
Despite the script being leaked, I'm kinda glad it did. I don't know if I would've liked Derek and Hallie as the killers. And I disagree that Mickey being revealed as a killer was bad, and the actor did great acting unhinged.
Scream is one of my favorite horror movies. Brings me so much nostalgia as I first discovered it with my mother. Now she hates horror plots but I still love'em. Love the recounts, please keep them coming James.
The ending of this video is great. Idk how James is able to keep the video quality so good and consistent I’ve the past 3-4 years. Can’t wait for the next
It's really interesting to see people react to the teaser for Scream 6 because people are split on if that could happen; if someone could get away with murdering someone on a subway. But if they looked back to Scream 2, this exact thing happens in the cold open-Ghostface murders someone in plain sight, but because of certain circumstances, no one thought to help the young woman. Not to mention in Scream 5 Ghostface was able to murder TWO people in broad daylight. It really doesn't take much to quickly hack and slash and get out of dodge.

@@scarlmao it wouldn't be illegal, just unethical.
I love how James absolutely despises the "I Think I Love You" scene but enthusiastically recreates it for his let's-get-to-the-numbers bit lol
He did the same with Timothy Oliphant!
Pretty sure he's got a writer who does that but I could be wrong
@@floop74 They have writers on staff but James is one of them
Scream 1, Scream 2, & Scream 4 are one of my favorite movie. Especially Scream 2. My favorite death scene is CiCi / Sarah Michelle Gellar. I can watch her death scene over and over again. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favorite show. I love the Scream VI trailer. Tara dangling over the balcony. My favorite shot of the trailer.
He also called her Daphine (spelling?) when she was thrown out the window.
Mathew Lillard being in the background of the party scene makes me want him to be in the new one even more 😂
He does always come back
I think I will always be conflicted with my regards to Randy being killed off. On one hand, I get it. The stakes were tremendously risen and it got the desired reaction. On the other hand, was it too soon? There were still a lot of places the character could go. Kevin Williamson even said himself fairly recently.
I mean, it's easy to say so recently, when there are 6 movies. At the time, they didn't even know they'd have a third.
That was Billy's Mom who did that
Ive never realized how much a movie set is so personal and authentic. It really seems like everyone on the set was having a great time while making a great movie
As someone who's directed movie sets, I'm a firm believer in the idea that the love u show ur cast and crew will be reflected in the final cut of the film.
@@jongon0848 it’s so awesome to see the behind the scenes relationships! I think James did a great job with this video!

Joel the cameraman needs to return to this series at some point. He was such a great character. "Yes, I got that on film!" 😂
Naw Duane Martin wasn't having that
It makes sense that Jamie Kennedy randomly did the British voice. It was established during the fountain scene in part one that he enjoys deploying different accents sporadically when he does a Jerry Lewis one. Totally fits the character and as someone that does the same thing, makes me love the character even more.
"Did you really put her liver in the mailbox? Because I heard that they found her liver in the mailbox along with her spleen and pancreas".
Yes, exactly! It 100% fits his character and just made him more lovable. I do that too 😂
Lmao I feel like I’m the only one who loves that Jamie Kennedy randomly delivered his lines with a British accent 😂😂 I love the way Neve goes with it like she’s used to him doing that sh*t 🤣 it added depth to the characters history of friendship to me 🤗
Agreed! It's random, but that's what makes it so natural and makes him feel like a real character. We all like Randy for his quirkiness.
Ye he did that goofy voice in the OG so it really didn't stand out that much to me
@@plantrulz223 YES!! I just rewatched the original a few months back and noticed that immediately! It solidified my love of that scene and his acting decision for that moment!! Shout out to Jamie Kennedy for tracking that character trait between films even when it wasn’t in the script 🤣🤣
Mickey had the coldest line in the movie: he’s the type of boy you bring home to mom, if ya had a mom lol
Legit tho
12:54 I just love how David and Neve nail this scene with expressions alone. The way Dewey looks at her, then the way you can just tell in Sidney's eyes that she is completely devastated that it looks like history is repeating itself.
I think this is an impressive sequel based solely on the facts that it was made within a year, and it survived a leaked script online. Kudos to the cast & crew for what they accomplished!
True shame the script was leaked as I didn't really like this one but with all that in mind they did their best.
@@jackkrauss did they have to switch the script ? Or they just ran with it ?

@@jongon0848 that's incredibly true!! You need to save space for the actors to play
I agree
What always bugged me about the Scream series is that Dewy doesn't seem phased by his sisters death
At least he knowledge to his sister death in scream 4 but it’s in deleted scene
It's sad, she is like acknowledge twice, a deleted scene in 4 and her ashes in 5.
So after that we Just got some hints about his sadness about It, the most simbolic to me is when he sabes sam's yong sister in 5 when he couldn't save Tatum.
liev schreiber’s dog being in the movie and him being so happy about it genuinely warmed my heart
if the first scream wasnt such a classic, scream 2 would 100% be my favorite. it all just works so well. from the compexity of the plots to the amazing characters.
@@AdrianDiasZa
I do think it’s valid, but it simply didn’t bother me. I just wanted Timothy to not be the villain so bad because I love him in almost everything he’s in. He gave me Cobb Vanth, who’s one of my favorite Star Wars characters ever. But I’m kinda happy he was the killer because his performance was fantastic
@@AdrianDiasZa plus it was gonna be Sidney's friend and her boyfriend with Billy's mom as the killers in the original draft that was leaked

I love the cafeteria scene, Sidney needed a spontaneous moment of joy that wasn’t trying to kill her, she needed a break, so i think the hate is undeserved
haha I like the scene too, it’s one of the very few wholesome moments we get to see for Sidney in the whole series tbh

Drew Barrymore would've took it as a compliment
I love the character development that Gale goes through in the Scream series. At the end of the first one she was giving a news report on what happened at Stu's house, in this one she goes with Dewey to the hospital to be there for him. I understand why Wes Craven was angered by the script leaks, I also can't stand leaks on the internet and I never give those people attention.

Fun fact: My dad owns the mailbox that Patrick Dempsey stood next to on the set of Stab. That mailbox was also used in front of Sydney's real house in the original Scream. I love that Scream 2 addresses the PTSD of the surviving characters. there's a certain atmosphere and palpable sense of impending doom maintained in the movie that's kinda missing in the subsequent sequels. I think that's what makes it my favorite in the franchise.

It was done quickly but still done really well
Scream 2 is easily the best sequel in my opinion.

This has to be one of the scariest in the franchise thanks for doing a recount to bring back the good old memories
It's not my favorite, but still pretty solid

Honestly, I love this movie. There are parts that don't work that well, but overall, I think it's great.
