European with their tall stature, african with their speed, american with their elasticity, asian with their agility and oceanian with their bulky body. Dang its gonna be fun to watch.
Can't think of any at the moment, but try Malay martial art like Silat. There are few variations of Silat but normally there are night classes at any Kampung..

Very true. Went to bangkok in 2013, stay in one of their uni, there’s court in front of my block and saw guys playing every evening. First day I saw they still playing till night got me thinking ‘why they didnt stop it’s past maghrib already’, then immediately realised Im not in Malaysia 😂🤦♀️
I remembered when we were younger (during school time), sepak takraw are Malay students' favourite; while badminton is Chinese students' favourite. That being said, whenever there was an Asean games, we would glue to the tv for both sepak tawraw and badminton. We would just be quietly watching with anticipation. Yes, I think Malaysia dreamt of getting sepak takraw into the Olympics, however it wasn't well received other than South East Asia just yet. That's fantastic catch up Steve! Your athletic genes could associate the game very quickly! Kudos to you! Keep practicing on that rattan ball !
8:00 _ That was how the game was initially played hundred of years ago. It was called Sepak (kick) Raga (woven basket or ball). Subsequently Thailand and Malaysia joined together to create a new competitive sport form. They decided on using badminton as the base (court dimension, net & points) platform for a modern kind of sepak raga. The new name for the sport combined both Malay & Thai language, Sepak Takraw (same meaning as raga in Thai language). Interesting that you played both badminton & sepak takraw in this video.
Last time I represent Perak state for Sepak Takhraw 😁 . This game it easy to play . U onle need hard train . The very hard part is u play in tour and huge atsmophere . Very psycho game and u really need a good mental . 😁
my neighbour, is a state sepak takraw player, and indian (this game is predominantly played by malays) and he is 60 years old!! and because of this he is so active and doesnt act his age at all.
I'm very impressed, this mat salleh surely fast in learning our culture and our 'things', like a sponge. 😆. He can play gamelan, gasing, sepak takraw, badminton...hehe, after this, try learning our martial art, silat...😁😄

BTW Steve, the ball is not made of wood but rather of rattan (rotan in Malay).

Im not a sport guy but last year I saw sepak takraw tournament in my college, its quite an intense game and quite enjoyable to watch (for sure not for me to play it 😂😂😂)
Tips for you to learn & practice how to juggle the takraw ball .. Hang the ball about knee to hip heights & then slowly practice to juggle it on the exact part of you foot.
wow steve, that is really not bad at all for a first timer! i cannot really play sepak takraw. one is i am not really good in juggling the ball. the other main factor is that i cannot stand the pain when the ball hit my head haha
in fact we have so many potential athletes that deserve to be in national team. Those kids just need proper training and for sure can represent country in future

the trick of playing badminton is you need to head to the center after hitting the shuttle. It helps you move around the court to reach the shuttle faster
Omg.. I'm so missed this childhood sports. I think at age 12 most of us really can do the 360 degree backflip . Some broken bones normal at that time.. but today i just can only watch people play.. flexibility and eyesight problem 😆.
True, no matter where in the world you're at, the takraw players are the most receptive towards newbie players. Probably because they know how hard and frustrating it was to start from nothing and gradually get better. Definitely a friendly community that fosters towards the embetterment of lots of begginers. I miss playing it.
Not bad mate, you can introduce sepak takraw in Canada. The ball originally made from rattan but nowadays it's made of plastic. There are two ways to play, one is sepaktakraw the other is sepak raga keliling. sepak takraw is when you play in court like you play the first in the video. Sepak raga keliling is the one you play later in the video. Love that you enjoy the game. Well done mate
Steve is quite good at sepak takraw. Should take it up when back in Canada. There are Malaysians, Indonesians, Vietnamese and Thai there and they play the game too.

Omg.. I'm so missed this childhood sports. I think at age 12 most of us really can do the 360 degree backflip . Some broken bones normal at that time.. but today i just can only watch people play.. flexibility and eyesight problem 😆.

True, no matter where in the world you're at, the takraw players are the most receptive towards newbie players. Probably because they know how hard and frustrating it was to start from nothing and gradually get better. Definitely a friendly community that fosters towards the embetterment of lots of begginers. I miss playing it.

Not bad mate, you can introduce sepak takraw in Canada. The ball originally made from rattan but nowadays it's made of plastic. There are two ways to play, one is sepaktakraw the other is sepak raga keliling. sepak takraw is when you play in court like you play the first in the video. Sepak raga keliling is the one you play later in the video. Love that you enjoy the game. Well done mate
