It’s coming together nicely! I think a tournament sounds like fun, you could base the tournaments off the fishing ones currently, adjusting it to fit the update obviously, but the base of it could be replicated.
Here is my opinion on the Card Game Update so far (I already posted it on the forums so it's just a copy-paste): Of course I expected something more “traditional” as in Magic the Gathering or similar games, so their card game concept came as quite a surprise. There is a similar game in some of the Skylanders games, which I played, so I am somewhat familiar with it. I think that it definitely can have a learning curve and some depth. However, as I played the Skylanders “version”, I can say with rather high certainty that at least the basic version is going to be rather boring and shallow, to the point that the outcome of a battle is largely decided by the strength of the cards rather than the tactical expertise of the player. That’s also why I am mostly excited about the advanced version. I think effect cards and other stuff can definitely enhance the depth and strategic component of the game. Sadly, I still see some issues, especially balancing wise. As there is no energy/mana system, basically any card has the same cost, at least to my understanding. The result is that most cards will have similar strength or that some cards are just plain better with no real drawbacks (let’s say effect card A, maybe a common card, grants +20 Earth while card B, maybe a rare card, grants +30 Earth). I hope that many cards will require some sort of sacrifice (for example discard x amount of cards or destroy 2 of your own cards on the battlefield), so that there can be a wider range of effects, as well as stronger effects. This of course won’t get as nuanced as an energy/mana system, but be at least some sort of compromise given the nature of the card game. Now on to some features I’d like to see added (notice that some of these are inspired from other TCGs, especially Force of Will (FoW)): -Quickcast Actions. Quickcast Action Cards would basically be Action Cards, however with the ability to also be played during an enemy’s turn (this one is directly from FoW, normal Actions could only be played during your turn.). -Player/Ruler Cards. As you might have seen during Jake’s animation of the card game, both players have an avatar at the side of the battlefield. What if that avatar also was a special card? While at the side of the battlefield, the Player/Ruler (avatar) could grant certain effects, similar to an effect card, however as it is basically impossible to remove, unless special Spells or other effects are introduced, way more permanent. This would also allow for a lot more variety in play styles (for example with Player/Ruler A granting all cards +10 Fire during the turn they are played or collecting a “token”(more on tokens later) for every draw (when 2 cards battle but have the same stat)). Now, once, unless specified otherwise by any card or the Player/Ruler card, during the game, the player can decide to play their Player/Ruler Card instead of a normal card and place it onto the battlefield, flipping it and revealing it’s stats and potentially some effects. Those effects could also make use of “tokens” collected while the Player/Ruler was at the side of the battlefield. Once the Player/Ruler is defeated, instead of switching sides to the enemy, it returns to the side of the battlefield without switching sides. (this also is from FoW) -Card Types. Although it appears the cards already can either be Dark or Light, I think there should be some subtypes or something other than simply the 2 factions. Those Types could for example be Nether, NPC, Fish etc. and could have a use in some effects of Effect, Action and Player/Ruler Cards. For example the Action Card A may give all of your cards +20 Fire, as long as they have the Type Nether. Cards could also have multiple Types at the same time, for example Nether & NPC (might fit the Nether Vendor). (This is used in many different Card Games, so I can’t really credit one) Thanks to anybody who read through all of this. Please give some feedback, especially on my suggestions. I hope my criticism, as well as suggestions, are read and taken into account by the developers, as I am pretty excited to have a card game in Pixel Worlds, something I am generally interested in and already quite enjoyed irl.
I'm not 100% sure about the "card types" because it adds an (in my opinion) unessescary level of depth that i don't even know how they will show on the cards but overall i agree with your opinion, i hope they listen to most of them :)
@@fgrey- It could be represented with little icons in a corner of the card. Maybe holding down on any card for a while could also give more detailed info and the names of the card's types. I personally don't think it adds unnecessary depth. I does add depth, yes, but in a positive way. Without having different types, one could simply make a deck full of cards that are good on their own. Card types "reward" those who put thought into their decks.
If it would be last year i would say dont rush and put effort we will be patient but this time i see that the game is getting less and less players so we need to get this update fast to revive the game i would say
With this pattern of updates and new features being added constantly, i can see the future of pixel worlds being an everything simulator, almost a second life.
About the tournament I think the top ranked players should be the only players to play these tournaments mainly to avoid smurfing in the future since players who are way too good at this game mode might just farm the rewards from tournaments on lower rankings this will also provoke players to get better at this game mode
In this comment I would like to go through my opinions with the card update, changes or not. Card collecting. I think that cards based on the nether, secret base. Ect.. has to be collected in that area. Or in English you can only obtain a nether card from killing a monster in the nether (same with secret base). Eg killing one monster in the nether has 1/100 chance of dropping a common card and has 1/750 chance of dropping a legendary card (has high chances because we don't want to inflate the card or lose its value to quickly). With generic cards and action/effect cards, I think that there should be a packs in the shop, 1000 gems pack that contains 2 random cards and 1 action/effect card as well as a 10000 gem pack with the same amount or cards as the 1000 gem pack but has higher chance for a rarer card. Eg garrenteed 1 rare card. I would also think that common nether or secret base card would be more powerful then a generic common card as a common nether card is harder to obtain then a generic common card. With the tournament fee and frequency. I think the fee should be free as the hardest and most time consuming part would be to collect the rare cards and having to pay to enter might be to much for a beginner players. With tournament frequency, I think the tournament's should be 2, 1 week tornaments a month with 1 week preparation time as If it was 1 week tornaments per month would make the cards useless for most the time. With the ladder system, I think that every tournament everyone would start at bronze and move their way up. The person with the most trophies would win the grand prize eg. 50000 gems and 50-2 would win 15000 gems and 150-51 winning 5000 gems. After the tournament is over, everyone will reset. Rankings and status. When everyone resets. The highest ranking so far ever would become Their status. Eg bronze = beginer /silver = amature / gold = experienced ect. However if they get a lower ranking in the next tournament. It would not effect their status. Matchmaking - players would verse the player with the most similar amount of trophies. Limited cards (personal opinion) - I would like if 1 tournament the prize was gems but the second tournament on the same month would give 250 limited gold cards to the 250 people with the highest trophies. (However i wouldn't want the card to be op in anyway where it .) Energy (personal opinion) - when everyone starts a match everyone starts with 5 energy and the purpose of energy is to add more strategy to the game. A common card required 1 energy to be played, rate requires 2 energy ect.so that the players have a mix of high and low number cards as it would prevent the players just having high number cards. (Like clash royale with its elixer or how ever you spell it. )
Here's some suggestions to make the card game last longer and not die out like "jet race" - Having the ranking system is amazing, but it will be better if people are able to "constantly show their ranks" instead of only having the rank pop up during card battles - Allowing wager between players maybe bytecoin wagers, so even when there's no tournament people will still find a point to play card games with one another - Have a feature where people can card battle one another if they are in the same world "like how people trade one another, but instead of trade they battle"
Although the profit would be interesting, I'd still prefer it if these cards were untradeable. That way people would get prizes not only based on their intelligence but also their merit aka from farming and such, since everyone complains anyway that farming "isn't worth it".
