    Great design, my only thing that I may do differently is to place your center pvc section going downward inside the bag. This way the air will force the compost to move around more so water can get all around the compost.

    Nice work right there. I use that same pump to aerate my pond and it also aerates my tea as well via a distribution manifold. You did such a great job, I will be resharing this cool vid!

    A big plus to not gluing it all is the ability to disassemble at the end of a season to thoroughly clean everything.

    A nice and simple design ..... one thing to watch for ( I see it lots) is to have the air pump at least level or higher than the top of the water surface. If you happen to have a power failure you run the risk of any moisture/water/brew flowing back to the pump possibly damaging the pump. This is standard practice for aquariums .... your design example has a reduced chance of this however as the air inlet pipe is large in diameter and unlikely to be a back syphon risk. Good stuff.

    Turns out the 1/2 inch plastic tubing was actually 3/8 inch on the inside diameter. So I was back to the hardware store for a 3/8 " male adapter to put the tubing into. Also bought a plastic one, not brass and it was way less. It is working great !! Thanks for the great idea>

    Maybe your rough neck 32 gallon container was different than mine but I had to alter a few of the measurements to make it work. I'll test it out tomorrow, to see if it holds together without gluing. Trust me, I'll get back to you.. Thanks for the video.Every bit I learn, I gain.

    Thanks for the DYI vid, I sprayed my first batch the other day. I did notice though, about 90% of my compost fell right out of the bag and was just floating around the container by the end so I had to use another strainer on my transfer pump so not a huge deal. Is that normal? I will note, I put too many holes the center pipe and had to switch that out. Most of the air was coming thru there and not making it to the rest of the system. That may have agitated it right out?
    Thanks again for the video.

    • @85gbody97
      @85gbody97 7 років тому +3

      Doogie N.D. There’s no need to use cpvc as the just the pvc will withstand the psi that will put out obviously you seen it in action an every fitting is dry fitted with no glue so why bother with cpvc unless ya intend to throw 100 psi from an air compressor at it I’d stick with the cheaper pvc it may not be brake the bank for cpvc but really not needed

    Gday from Australia, how does the average gardener at home quantify that there is fact an increase in beneficial microbiology activity occurring in the finished brew? What simple test could show me the difference that has occurred from the starting point of aeration of brew to the end

      I use a $100 microscope. The cheap method is to count the number of organisms in the microscope field of view. Do that like 3-5 times in different areas and take the average. How do you know that the organisms are beneficial and not pathogenic? Well...unless you are super good at recognizing bacteria, you don't. But, the soil food web folks say that pathogens are much less likely in an aerobic environment.

      Air pumps are generally better because they are designed to run for long periods of time, air compressors are designed to fill a tank and stop.

      Just get the bucket the pump and a hose. There is no real reason to make that contraption. The pump is just to stir so you don't have to and provide good aeration for the bacteria.

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  4 роки тому +2

      The center pipe is a wand that goes inside your compost tea brew bag to help agitate and aerate the compost. There are small holes in the cap at the end of the pipe towards the bottom of the can. Cheers!
