Much as I hate to admit it, Brad is right.
These lyrics deserve full attention.
She is sitting there smiling hahah
why do you hate to admit it?
Pretty easy to understand. School shootings, self esteem issues, family problems, suicide. Tragic problems plaguing our youth that only seem to be getting worse.
It’s sad to realize that the world is getting worse
Its life
Such great lyrics and song in general. Lyrics seem even more relevant and relatable today.
aye its getting worse, cause yall keep raising snowflakes that get butt hurt and decide to blast people instead of growing thicker skin
@@waynegove73 Right. We don't have a gun problem, we have a culture problem
This song is powerful. I’m not Even from the US but once you pay attention to the lyrics, It hits you hard.
It is powerful! And even though I am almost 47 now I'll always stand by and protect the young cause it's the right thing!
@@nathanclarke2777 I’m pushing 47 and I’m with you bro. We all need to get more involved. The kids need positive role models now more than ever
It came out at the right time aswell
This song's message is always actual...
I hope day will come, someone will find this comment and he(or she) will write "we solved this problem, rest in peace..." )))
@@himynameis3664 yep, the timing was perfect!
I was able to be their monitor engineer for a show they played in my hometown. They were very respectful and professional guys to work with, including their whole road crew
Super cool dude! God bless!
Running sound for them was my first introduction to being an engineer. Along with a lot of other Christian bands that came through my church.
Awesome! I saw them in San Diego just a years ago, was a great show!
I met them when they played in my old home town in lake elsinore at the storm stadium. It was the day they found out they would be signed to a large label. Was able to hang with them during and after the concert, was awesome.
Met them in about 2011/12 at a small club i worked at... Super cool dudes, even signed by DVD!
This song was released a couple years after the Columbine shooting and played a huge role in POD/Youth of Nation gaining so much popularity and listen time. I remember listening to and singing along to this on the way to school in 3rd grade. Didnt know the true meaning or what i was singing until i ultimately got older
The music video has the yearbook photos of the Columbine victims in the background
@@nicdigregorio9746 that's what I thought back in the day too but it's actually about the Santana school shooting down the street from their studio
It's about the Santana school shooting not Columbine
@@CaddyJim yes I know, I didn’t say it was about Columbine. I’m just saying Columbine because it was more nationally known but still played a big role of this gaining popularity
@@cardenasadataco5620 it's all good back then I thought it was about Columbine as well
Alive, Boom, Set It Off, South Town... all great songs by them
Hopefully they do these soon
Satellite is probably my favorite of theirs even though I like all their stuff.
Yeeah
Southtown for sure! My fave by P.O.D.
Don't forget Slepping Awake!
Song is powerful! Especially when the kids join in on the chorus… goosebumps. Great reaction 🙋🏻♀️🙌🏼👍🏼👌🏼💜🇨🇦
Brad bitched like Hell when the children's choir joined in that Pink Floyd song. And again with some other band I cannot think of at the moment.
But he didn't even notice here.
One of my fav’s of all time❣️
1:16 I get teary eyed so bad when the chorus kicks in. Im 34 and lived this era. This was not long after Columbine in a way and we were the youth this was aimed at.
You have to do "South town" by them. Their first big hit that put them on the map
Still listen to Southtown👍
Classic
I was just thinking the same thing as I was scrolling down the comments.. right before I read yours 😂 Southtown is fire 🔥
It’s where it all started. (For me)
ua-cam.com/video/8JJlmjohtck/v-deo.html
This song is as true today as it was 20 years ago when it was released. They put on a HELLUVA live show ! ! ! !
Criminally underated band. I am hugely biased however. Seen them live 2x. "Alive" is a critical track from the same album. Allegedly released as a single 9/11/2001, was relevant on that day and every day since.
This whole album was released on 9/11/01.
I saw P.O.D. in concert with Flyleaf, Taproot, and Staind. P.O.D was absolutely on fire. They bring it all live. High energy, to say the least. Really impressive.
@@RoninTXBR549 I'm really jealous that concert, listened to all of them growing up
I was ready to buy the Satellite album that day, but never got to the store, as the horror of that day was in front of me on a screen at school and at home. They later re- released this album so it wouldn't be associated with that day
In the weeks after 9/11 we were listening to "Boom" (from the same album) to hype us up as our "going to war" song. It was like it was written for us: "Boys from the South" (Camp Pendleton, southern CA). "The chosen, the few" (as in Marines)."Is that all you got? I'll take your best shot."
I tear up everytime I hear this song. I don't think I have ever heard it descried that way but, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said very well, "There is a story behind every short clip on the news".
POD highly underrated. Southtown is a great album.
👏 yes
I was a teen when this came out. I'm 41 now. We aren't the youth anymore 😔
But, yes this song is about a school shooting. They were driving in their car when a news report came out on the radio. They started jamming and came up with this.
They’re a great Christian rap group, they don’t push it down people’s throats, but they practice their faith, Paid On Delivery. ( P.O.D) God Bless.
P.O.D "payable on death"
They're more Nu metal than rap. Grits are rap
Saw them in like 99' at a Youth event in Caronport Sk. Good times.
I love the prayerful intensity of the Chorus/hook following such dark parts and experiences of peoples lives. It’s such an empathetic and atmospheric song, one of those tunes that’s like a little movie in your head in hd screen
Brad that’s probably your best reaction. You seem to grasp pretty well what I’d think was the thought process behind the song.
This song is the perfect match for The Offspring's song The Kids Aren't Alright. Both are great songs.
YES!!
Y'all definitely got the vibe of the song. Here's some backstory on the song: The band was rehearsing for the album on March 5, 2001 in Santee, California when they had seen some emergency vehicles pass by while on a break. Turns out a student of Santana High School, which was a few blocks away from where they were rehearsing, had brought a revolver to school and opened fire. After hearing about it on the news, they began to write what would become Youth of the Nation.
P.O.D. are awesome, but no one reacts to tunes outside of the Satellite album. They have a fun catalog.. Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae, Metal. Do more!!
Yeah, the rest of their albums get no respect. It's a shame because they're all good.
“Full color” is one of my favorites… followed closely by “Southtown” “outcast” and “bullet to blue skies”
@@rossperrine1267 southtown album is so good.
Snuff the Punk
It’s been so many years since I listened to this song and I still remember just about every word
P.O.D is a incredible band
This song came out in 2001, when I was 14. I haven't really heard it since I was a teenager but it still resonates.
I went to the school that inspired this song, Santana High School (East County, San Diego, Ca.). This song is an all time classic that may live on forever. As sad as the stories are, this is an unbelievable anthem to the youth of a nation. This song has brought me to tears a hundred times, easily. Peace out.
P.O.D. has so many good albums, hugely underrated band.
Its weird to be an adult now, and to not realize how deep some of the songs were back when they originally came out, and i just nodded my head to em.
So true my friend!
It’s shedding light on the troubles of our youth and the lack of resources the troubled ones suffer without for multitudes of reasons. One high school sang this in a choir and it’s was bone chilling!
Shit. I’d probably break down.
Holy crap, that would give me horrific chills.
I remember being in college when Columbine happened. Several of my college friends knew people who were killed. It truly shook our country and raised a lot of questions about society and the struggles of that generation's youth. This song captures the tragic element of that era. I get chills every time I hear the deep bass guitar, the drums, the choir of children...
Such amazing lyrics, P.O.D is mad underrated. Very powerful song
P.O.D. is an awesome band and very underrated. Been listening to them ever since I heard "Alive" 20 yrs ago. "Lost In Forever" has got to be my favorite track from these guys. Would love to see you two do a reaction to that one.
The Official Video by P.O.D. for this song is very powerful.. watch it for some answers to your questions..
This is so weird.. I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time, but today I felt like watching a reaction for this song, haven’t heard it for years but was just in that vibe, and 2 hours ago you just uploaded this.. wow. ♥️
P.O.D...... Payable On Death Very talented South Cali group
P.O.D.
Are from San Diego.
I believe this song came out around the time of Columbine shooting.
Sadly around that time there were a number of school shootings in San Diego as well.
I went to high school in San Diego and there were three in my district alone.
It hit different back then though cos it wasn't such a common thing as it seems to be nowadays. Maybe the media has it overhyped these days all I know is that columbine was talked about around the world
1:16 I get teary eyed so bad when the chorus kicks in. Im 34 and lived this era. This was not long after Columbine in a way and we were the youth this was aimed at.
This album is great! There is soo many good songs on it ! This concert had one if the craziest mosh pits ever ! One of the best concerts I have seen.
So glad you two reacted to this, I requested it ages ago!
Wow, I haven't listened to this in so long, I forgot how powerful it is. And, sadly, how relevant to this day. Gonna find my POD CD and revisit!
This song is taking me down memory lane. POD, Korn and Tool we're always on my playlist. Yes I can relate, kinda like the Everlast song What it's like. I particularly like POD satellite. Southtown is a good one too 👍
Have you ever listened to Brian "Head" Welch's solo album from when he took a break from Korn to get grounded in his newly found faith?
I have been listening to it on repeat all week. Really wish he would do more like it!
Not sure how this song made me think of this, but I would like to recommend the group Candlebox... Some of their more well-known tracks are "You", "Far Behind", and "Cover Me"
As weird as it sounds, I always pair the two bands together in my head too, even though they are almost nothing alike. I guess for me it's because I listened to both bands a lot around the same time so they both capture a certain nostalgia for that time period for me.
The music video puts the song to justice it’s so powerful. A lot of their music is that way they have a sound of their own
I've been waiting for a reaction to this song! Thank you! P.o.d is a really good band.
I love this song, great lyrics.👍
Love this band. They're super underrated.
I love this song.
Payable On Death. They were an interesting "Nu Metalesque" band with very Christian undertones. I remember hearing about them in 99 when I was in HS. One of the other kids in my history class handed me their first CD, and I was hooked. Satellite was a good album from start to finish, but by the time their 3rd album came out, I had moved on to a completely different sound, Acid Jazz. The bassist was a jazz bassist who really wasn't interested in the rock scene, but he found his grove. Their influences are great and they do a little bit of everything. Everyone seems to look down on them as not a good band or just another Nu Metal band, but they were better than just that.
They were Christian. Started in churches and marketed through Christian stores till they hit the main stream. But they always stuck to their roots.
My favorite band ever. Really good guys too!
I love that brads face in the thumbnail is like "the fck is this?".
love this song
I remember when this legendary rock club in my city was going to close down the last band covered this song they dedicated this song to a friend that committed suicide, they brought this song to life that night especially because I was in middle school when it came out and that club was the place to go to check out bands they ended that night with a Special Touch of nostalgia! I'll never forget that night and when they covered the song everybody had their hands up! ✋🏽
This was one of those songs that was always in the radio rotations when I was in High School as I recall.
So I’ve seen Iron Maiden 2 times best concert I’ve ever been to .. I’ve seen the Foo Fighters in a huge Festival.. Korn and bands like System .. I’ve seen GnR .. but P.O.D. I’ve seen once in a small bar in LA a couple years back .. and they’re my second favorite band I’ve seen live .. and I don’t really love their music .. it was just the experience.. you can tell they were born to be on stage . The vibe .. the love .. the expression.. the magic of them performing live was something special man ❤️
POD is from here in San Diego, and the beginning is about the Santana high school shooting here. Which happened, right b4 the album came out. The band is one of my fav. Sonny wanted to get the message out we need to pay more attention to our youth.
Me and my buddy actually got to see POD and buckcherry live at summerfest. One of the best shows ive ever seen
Beautiful song! 😍
P.O.D. writes great stuff. Christian metal band. Payable On Death (POD) refers to Jesus' death paying for our sins.
She said she needs more to fill her imagination, dude literally told 3 stories in one song and painted a pretty clear picture . Similar to brendas got a baby .
This sing break my heart everytime I hear it.
I played this recently for my nephew who has the same name as the sing and he loved it.
Yes this is about School shootings but I don't remember which, Check out Boom you might have heared it 🔥🔥🔥
Love you guys
One of my favorite songs the lyrics are very profound
Bought " Hybrid Theory" 2001 This was on the radio all the time then..
Good
Times
To be honest this song and other songs help me get through my teenage years and young adult years
Southtown is what I still think of, when I think of POD. These guys were in the pioneering time of this style. Southtown is still an amazing all these years later.
I grew up with song and yes most time id pick and chose listening to the lyrics. oh my god I recently played it again, heavy and all kinds of feels.
P.O.D. is my favorite band so it's awesome to see you react to them. I hope you do a few more of there songs. I would suggest This Goes Out To You, Alive, circles, Boom, Soundboard Killa, and It Can't Rain Everyday
I have studied music history for a long time. When Lex first put Skid Row and P.O.D. with Philly Colins, I was confused, but she is right. They are all very specific "message" songs that they all wrote. Good show! Keep them coming!! 🤘
Love this song!
P.O.D are one of my favourite bands.... love them
Powerful song.
P.O.D. has some pretty cool songs.
Alive is a must! Set it off, Southtown, School of hard knocks are some other great ones. Keep it up!
Damn! Haven't listened to this in almost 2 decades. What a throwback. I'm not a huge nu-metal fan these days and don't regularly listen to a lot from the genre, but I've actually grown to respect it and accept how much I liked back in the day more than I used to. The lyrics have much more of an impact on me now that I'm grown and understand how precious life is.
Wish you guys had reacted to the official video, it's very powerful. Sonny and the band are great, awesome songs. Definitely recommend Alive, very good song
When this band came about they were a Christian band maned Payable on Death. You should check out more of their songs and get a better understanding of them. They are an awesome band that sort of blew up and were very under-rated.
*Yeah, as it has likely been said; this one is written about a time when I believe the band were actually nearby to the school and working on songs or recording when the shooting took place. Two students were killed and a dozen or so were injured.*
This was on everyone's Playlist back when I was a teenager in the late 90's/early 2000's... When this song came out I was part of the "youth of the nation"
The way things have been in the States this year, this song still stands true. So many school shootings, and they don't have to be high school anymore. Elementary school. I never once thought today might be my last day when going to Elementary school. Always tell the people you love that you love them when you get the chance to. No regrets.
This song came out 20 years ago, and it's every bit as relevant in 2022 as it was in 2001. Amazing song. Amazing Band.
So sad. For me this song represents a change in young people when I was a kid. Since then things have only got worse and this song is even more applicable and accurate for today’s youth. Young people really are living in a different world to the one I grew up in.
Always liked this band. The couple of songs that broke through by them were definitely noteworthy.
Video makes this song More impactful
I love POD!! Saw them in 2011 at HeavenFest!!
In the video they play their instruments in a section where there's a giant wall of photos of young faces behind them, hundreds of them, I found out it was the faces of those kids killed in school shootings. I got chills so bad.
P.O.D. produced the Satellite album immediately after the shootings of Columbine High.
It is a much closer look into the school campuses and how many teens deal with everyday life today.
This song hit deep when it came out still does
~* Brad you are right...its our youth anywhere...your so insightful and a great listener to this gen*~
I was in my early teens when the song came out but pod did this song right after one of the worst Mass school shootings in America when Eric Harrison and Dylan Klebold shut up Columbine leading to many deaths so pod written the song based on that shooting course this song still stands the test of time especially since it has been many years since that school shooting of 1999 and pods message that the band would later create in the song Youth of the Nation I can still remember that day like it was yesterday 12 students and one teacher were killed so to me I've always appreciate what this song stands for course it's still sad that school shootings and horrible things like this go on every day in America it seems like not much is being done about it but I appreciate the video.
This song is amazing!!! And the text too.
I remember the time when this singelcame out. It was a time when many bands took new member. Effect guitarist - his task was to match the coolest possible sounds in the band. New guitar blocks that emerged ....ohh that time. We almost win Band Festival price because we used new guitar block with effective sound.
I saw these guys in Atlanta, back in 2012.
They have so many good songs.
It’s sadly true how bad school bullying has gotten, I was tortured by bullies because of my epilepsy and they constantly give both verbal and physical abuse. In the end the true problem is not only the bullying, but the fact that adults don’t seem to care as many will look the other way.
This is one of those songs where the official video needs to seen. The song and the video go hand in hand to explain what is going on.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
This was released more than two decades ago and is still relevant to this day.
Answer - COLUMBINE SHOOTING APRIL 20TH 1999
They wrote this song after hearing about the Santee school shooting back in 2001 I believe. They were at the recording studio nearby taking a break outside when they said they saw and heard cops first responders rushing past them.
This was a very powerful song when it came out back in 2001. There were a lot of tragic events involving the youth. School shootings, gang rapes, suicides, just a huge mess all around. P.O.D. here are just laying it out there that there are so many questions about why these things happen but no matter what answers anyone might give as to why it happened, it can never "explain" it enough to make it any less tragic. Understanding tragedy doesn't erase the pain of it.
Really this is an amazing group and well worth getting into, checking out more of their music, would definitely recommend digging into their earlier stuff from their albums "Brown," "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown," "Satellite," and "Payable On Death." Just a quick rundown of like three recommendations per album, for Brown I'd say "Know Me," "Full Color" (this one hits deep, like NF "How Could You Leave Us" deap), and "Live and Die." For Southtown it's really hard to pick just three, really recommend listening to the entire album whenever you get the chance even if you don't do reaction vids for it, but aside from the title track I'd go with "Rock the Party (Off the Hook)," "Bullet to Blue Sky," and....man it's hard to pick just three but I guess I'll throw "Set Your Eyes on Zion" as number three there. You've already heard Youth of the Nation off of the Satellite album, and again the title track is definitely worth a listen and I'd put this as another "just listen to the whole thing" recommendation but for the top three I'd have to go with "Thinking About Forever" (one of their most beautiful songs in my opinion), "Anything Right," and "Ghetto." But seriously there is not one "bad" or even "meh" song on this album and I would put the whole thing on repeat for hours on end back in the day (interesting bit of trivia this album came out on 9/11/2001, the day the Towers fell). And lastly, Payable on Death (which is what the band's name is an acronym for), I'd recommend "Will You," "Find My Way," and....crap this is another "just listen to the whole thing" album in my book but I'll say "I and Identify" as number three. Man this is such a nostalgia trip for me. Much like Linkin Park and system of a Down this is music I grew up on in my teenage years. Late middle school/early high school, and back when youtube was just a fledgling site but music videos were one of its main staples.
Gotta listen to the songs “Alive” and “Southtown” next. 619.
I understand the Phil Collins reference. It's a metal analog of 'Another Day In Paradise.' Or the Beatles 'Elenor Rigby.' Or, more obviously, 'Ghetto Gospel' 'Changes' and tracks like that.
when I first listenend to that song 20 years ago I loved it at first notes but my english was too weak back then to pay close attention to the lyrics. They are actually deep and meaningful.
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite bands
If you're thinking of reacting to other songs from them I could suggest: Southtown, Change the world, Alive and Boom
