The vocalist, Howard, is a classically trained opera singer. He had great range!
Has*
He’s one of the great metal singers of this era.
@@GrimSRT8 He still is man listen to that new SION album and Light The Torch has some great stuff too
Didn't know he was. That's dope.
That’s actually not true that he is a classically trained opera singer, he said it himself in a recent interview. I can see why a lot of people would believe that due to his vibrato vocals but that’s not the case at all.
Howard Jones is a gift to the metal community, he is so widely loved. They have a lot of good songs. I got into them during their Alive or just breathing days. Rose Of Sharyn, Arms Of Sorrow and The End OF Heartache are some more fantastic songs by them with Howard as the vocalist.
Rose of Sharyn absolutely Guts me every time but I can't stop listening to it after years and years. One of their best imo.
White boy was a better screamer, Jones is the better singer.... I prefer Jones, but my Last Serenade is probably my favorite song tho.
@@Darkstarex2 It is a beautiful song, I think he wrote it for his mother who had passed?
@@Loepfe7 I agree, Jesse had a more raw scream, while Howards cleans were unmatched. The song where both Howard And Jesse are singing/screaming together is insanely good. It is called, The Signal Fire.
Me too,dude....Howard still the best when he is in KsE
Killswitch Engage is awesome. I definitely prefer Howard as the lead vocalist over Jesse, but both are great. You should definitely check out more from them.
Yeah, both are solid for sure, but being introduced to them years ago with Howard as the vocalist, hearing anybody but him just seems off for me. Might just be the nostalgia for me though.
Same here, and I got into them with their Alive or just breathing album which has jesse and is still so raw sounding.
I got into them before Howard so I prefer Jesse, but agree they're both great. Howard was the best replacement they possibly could have found. Objectively Howard is probably the better vocalist, but Jesse will always be the KSE sound I originally got hooked on so there's that nostalgia factor.
@@davebcf1231 That is how it is with me. I got into them with Jesse as vocals in Alive or just breathing. At the time that album was really far ahead of the curb.
Well, they each had their moments. Jesse created KSW with Alive or Just Breathing, but once Howard took over, it was another level for them. Both are amazing and I’m glad to see Jesse playing both songs live (his and Howards)
Great song. This is all that was great about 2000s metalcore
This isn't Metalcore. KSE were originator in the "New American Heavy Metal" genre that predates Metalcore. Lamb of God, Unearth, Shadows Fall, God Forbid all apart of that same genre.
@@TheDeadStretch oh God you're one of those that has to split hairs about subgenres. Metal + breakdowns = metalcore.
@@TheDeadStretch Bro literally everyone knows it as metalcore just sthu lol
@@chairmanofthebored6860 Nahhhh
@@Mr.Josh. They are through and through a New American Heavy Metal band. lol Nothing about them is "core"
Absolutely one of the most "Crisp" sounding bands I've seen live. They are a Masterpiece Live
This song makes me cry every time I hear it, personal stuff that happened in my life, there is a band for every emotion Killswitch engage is for people who feel hopeless and lost.
Hell YES!!! Finally some KSE. Please do more, they’re awesome and incredibly positive with their message, which is not always easy to find in metal. Super talented and uplifting! I recommend When Darkness Falls
I love Howard Jones' voice! Their cover of Dio's Holy Diver is awesome!
I saw them on the Killthrax tour with Anthrax and the encore at the end of the show was Killswitch playing Holy Diver with Joey Belladonna and Jesse trading off vocals. It was amazing!
I'd love to see some more KSE. There are three era's - Jesse Leach was the original singer, but was replaced by Howard Jones (the singer on this song) after the first couple of albums. The band gained a lot of popularity with Howard out front, but he was forced to leave the band due to some health issues and Jesse came back in his place. The two have a song together (Signal Fire) that is worh checking out. Most reactors make the mistake of reacting to radio edits - stay clear of official videos (the official video for Signal Fire is a safe one, though) - stick with lyric or audio only videos if you react to more!
Always preferred the og Jesse stuff if I'm being honest. Never really dug the power metal vocal style of Howard, or cleans in general lol. He's good no doubt, just not my thing.
Depends though. Like to be honest, I like the radio edits for stuff like my curse for example. Love the cleans in a way I can't describe.
For real. The video version for End of Heartache is the worst.
@@metalbeard1090 like I said, for me it depends on which video edit but I agree that that one just ain't it
I love that they joined up for Signal Fire. It's a pretty great song. Like some others in these comments, I first heard KSE with Howard as the vocalist. I like Jesse's vocals as well but Howard is one of the best in metal in my opinion.
Oh man, y'all need to check out their live performance of End Of Heartache. They won a Grammy for best metal performance for it.
I’ve been trying to get this band played for a year lol. Listen to “My last serenade.”
+1 for "My Last Serenade"
About time you guys react to Killswich
This is one of many great songs that killswitch engage has done. My suggestion would be End of Heartache for their next song you do.
Thanks.
Killswitch Engage- In due time has their new singer Jesse and their song The Singal fire has both old (Howard) and new singer (Jesse) in same song. Howard Jones has since joined a different band "Light the Torch" and started a project with famous UA-camr Jared Dines "Sion" and it's amazing. And speaking of Jared Dines. He does a giant shred collab every year with dozens of guitarist.
Jesse is the original vocalist
This is IMHO one of the best metal songs ever. Lyrically, musically, emotionally hits a ton of emotions we feel in life. The beauty and brutality of it is second to none. The greatest Metalcore band ever
the song from Howard's era just like makes my grieving in a positive way..
definitely love it!
KSE is one of my all time favorite bands. Definitely need to do a couple more songs.
Howard Jones has his own band “Light The Torch,” and his project with Jared Dines “Sion.”
You guys should definitely check out more from these guys, but listen to something off of "Alive or Just Breathing" or "End of Heartache" those are their two best albums by far.
I second that.
Third
In this episode of Brad & Lex, the chaotic beauty of this beastly cut captures the couch couples craniums as they do what they do. Brad with a mellow "inqusitive side to side sway" and Lex with an on and off "ponder bop".
Lol Ponder Bop!!!!
Yes!!!!!!!!
End of Heartache\,,/
Or My Last Serenade
I’m glad y’all finally made it to killswitch engage. They have so many awesome tracks by both singers (Howard Jones and Jessie Leach).
Y’all should check out these one too:
Eye of the storm (Jones)
End of heartache (Jones)
Still beats your name (Jones)
This is absolution (Jones)
This fire (Jones)
Cut me loose (Leach)
It falls on me (Leach)
Prophets of treason (Leach)
Strength of the mind (Leach)
I am broken too (Leach)
I love this part " and I see your face in these tears in these tears, and I see your face!!! " soooo good! my favorite ! and also the guitar intro!
Definitely react to End of Heartache. One of their biggest hits
*Not the radio edit/offical video.
@@shanesturgill75 This.
Lex: This more chill than I thought.... me: lul...
Killswitch Engage is an amazing metalcore band to get into. They are amazing!
Melodic Metalcore is the genre. Other bands with the vocalist Howard Jones are Zion and Light the Torch. All Killswitch stuff is awesome.
YES!!! When Lex said "you let go, and you feel" at 6:30 I think she captured the essence of this style of music.
The heavy chords and baselines with the screams and growls form the foundation. But the clean vocals and the guitar melodies float over the top, almost as if they're inviting you to ride the storm. Just let go, and feel.
I have been waiting for Killswitch! They are absolute gold, and are one of the greatest metalcore bands that have ever existed. They owned the genre and warped it around themselves for many years.
Ahh welcome to metalcore 😆 this should open u guys up to loads more bands, enjoy!
If you enjoyed it maybe try Rose of Sharyn by killswitch? I could sit and suggest literally 1000s of songs but I'll leave you guys to it
Howard is one of those guys every metal head loves and respects. He has such a soulful voice.
I absolutely love that guitar riff! One of the most unique and memorable in all of rock music!
Glad to see yall doing this band. One of my favs. More plz!!
Facts about Howard being the lead singer of Killswitch engage band.
He's the original lead singer
He is black
He has a very powerful voice because he was trained to be a classical opera singer
He left the band because of his health issues
He does missed being in the band but obviously his health takes priority over what he truly wants.
There are lots of videos you can watch on him and how he explains the reasons behind why he's not with the band and what's going on with his health😢
Killswitch Engage hails from my home state of Massachusetts. Brad, your intuition is correct on their influences. Bands like Metallica and Pantera to name a couple of their influences. This genre is what would be considered Metalcore.
Pretty much the band most associated with the Worcester Palladium.
YES!!! One of my favorites! What an amazing voice Howard has!
OMG finally someone who did the right version!!!!
Apparently I miss all the streams I would enjoy more these days lol. Great reaction as usual. I Saw Killswitch Enguage live for the first time last year with Slipknot. They sound really good live.
Killswitch Engage covered Holy Diver by Dio. You guys should see the video...better than the original and I adore Dio.
So good song that i listen to much back when it came out. I also listen to BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE - TEARS DON'T FALL that i think is also very good 🤘
Bro you’re taken me back dude…. Jamming out to Tears Dont Fall in my dorm was one of my college highlights….. 😂
One of my favourite bands. Greetings from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬🤘🏾
One of my favorite KSE songs. I found it during a really hard breakup and it definitely helped get me through.
Killswitch Engage came out in 99 they are one of the pioneer bands of metalcore.
Howard Killswitch hits me in the feels ❤️
"Alive or just breathing" and "As daylight dies" are 2 of the best metal albums ever released... Howard and Jesse are both great
Ill never forget seeing them in concert. I get chills to this day when I think about the feelings I had when they started playing on main stage..... Your girls' smile on her face made me smile =). I think she may be a closet metal head ;'). I've watched alot of videos but not enough to know. Thanks for the good vibes. GL and congrats on your success....
Howard is a heavy metal angel.
Check out Killswitch Engage- Arms of Sorrow. Howard's vocals are on point! Cool riffs and cool off time signatures
You guys are amazing. What have you been doing this for about 8 months now? When you were talking about bands that influenced them and the way that the instruments sounded older and the vocals sounded newer, like Meshugah, man that was spot-on. You guys are for real metalheads now. I remember back when you guys started and you thought it all sounded like mush.
This album came out right after my girlfriend and 2 other friends were killed in a car accident and every song on this album makes me cry almost 20 years later. The lyrics are so powerful to me and Howard delivers them so passionately. Y’all should check out Rose of Sharyn of this same album ✌🏻❤️
Glad I got to see them back at a tiny venue in my hometown around 2004 killer show\m/
This is metalcore which is a fusion of metal and hardcore punk which really blew up in the early 2000s into the 2010s KSE was one of the first big bands along with All that Remains and august burns red and parkway drive( who the guitarist of KSE produced their first few albums) opening the genre to bigger audiences and a plethora of bands. I seen them live a couple times and they don’t disappoint at all a total rager of a set and energy
Finally! I've been waiting for this!!!
OMG I loved these guys in high school! End of Heartbreak is a great song by them too, also "My Last Serenade" with the original singer is good as well
This style was big in the 2000s. Was a whole New Wave of American Metal that combined thrash, melodic death metal, groove metal, and a hardcore vocal style. Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall, Trivium, God Forbid, Chimaira, Devildriver were other major bands of this style and era.
Howard Jones the metal brother and beast live! KSE with Howard live is one of the incredible performances ever! This qas the beginning of metalcore and considered the pinnacle.
One of my favorite songs of all time! Howard Jones the vocalist has incredible pipes!!!
Chech his colaboration with Jared Dines too! It' called SION. They have album recently. You'll love it.
End Of Heartache, Rose Of Sharyn, My Last Serenade and their cover of Holy Diver...
Then check out Trivium, Unearth and Parkway Drive
This entire Album is a gift to humanity. Listen to Rose of Sharyn. Howard wrote that song for his grandmother who passed away and it's beautiful.
Howard Jones on vocal is the best you should check out their version of holy diver from dio
Killswitch Engage is one of my favorite metal bands and have a great library of songs throughout their whole history. My favorite is one of their older songs that does not begin as chill called "Fixation on the Darkness", sung by their original and now current vocalist Jesse Leach.
This is awesome. KSE was my gateway band into heavier music back in high school so this is just a straight nostalgia shot.
This is probably my favorite band. It'll be 20 years this year since I discovered them. Kind of wild but you will probably enjoy all their stuff. Much like Metallica they never miss.
Great song! Please check out “The End of Heartache”- another killer Killswitch song!
Heartache
Only the album version though, the radio edits of their songs don't hit as well.
@@rbak86 Yes, sotrue - the video/radio version is atrocious. The studio version is the best representation.
My opinion... Howard Jones is the complete metal package. His vocals , no matter how heavy, will cradle your soul.
she seemed to really enjoy the song, those smiles are uncontrolled. love to see it. great vid
I loved that you loved my favorite band ! Howard is awesome and Jesse too !
Great songs and great live show watching them live makes it better
So amazing thank you for sharing how fun
this song/album brings me back to high school....play this on repeat sooo many times
Been waiting for this
I'm glad you guys listened to this version instead of the watered-down music video that is radio-friendly.
"I don't know where to put this in my head"
Just file it under epic, sweetheart
Love this song, as soon as I heard it I had to learn it!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Numetal is just what you described the old instrumental but with a fresh sounding vocals for the 2000s
Puscifer - “The Remedy”
Long overdue IMO. The band has had 2 singers, following are some of my favorite tracks from each one.
Howard Jones:
--The End of Heartache
--The Arms of Sorrow
--Rose of Sharyn
Jesse Leach:
--Last Serenade
--Unleashed
--Temple from the Within
Both!!!
--The Signal Fire
Love how you guys were listing all these band names. It's wild how this time last year, you knew none of them. #ExpandingYourHorizons
I'm so proud that Lex can mark off the G.O.A.T's without even a stutter.
Great reaction. KSE is by far the tightest band I've seen live. They sound so amazing. If you ever get a chance to see them take that opportunity!
Killswitch- Signal Fire, where both past(s) and present vocalists just crush! I love this band
just.. howard jones.. f-ing goosebumps everydam time when he starts belting
You guys definitely need to do more Killswitch, their lyrics have such a positive message in most of their songs but the music is so aggressive, it is such a great mix. Also need to check out All That Remains they have a very similar sound. Keep doing your thing, love the guitar solo reactions. lol
Fun fact about the guitarist Adam. He went on The Price Is Right and won both show downs.
this band set up the entire metal core genre. they started it all.
You absolutely have to check out drown by sion, Howard the vocalist from killswitch is the vocalist for sion as well.
Thank you for getting to KSE! Seen them live numerous times with both singers… never a bad show…
"This is more chill than I thought" LOL
Loveeee. Do another one! Killswitch is goated
Arms of sorrow by killswitch engage is amazing
Love it! keep listening to awesome music!
Holy diver, end of a heartache and this fire are must listens!
The End of Heartache is (probably) their biggest song. Would recommend that and Rose of Sharyn for Howard Jones songs.
Then you can pick any number of songs with Jesse, but would recommend hearing a song from Jesse’s first stint and his second stint with the band, whatever those may be.
Yes!!! Such a great band
My favorite Killswitch song. Love to see this.
When I heard Killswitch for the first time I was hooked. I rocked out to them for months before I actually took the time to watch a music video. When I found out the lead singer was black it made me fall in love with them even more. Howard has the most intense range in his voice and I think it’s awesome to have someone like him performing heavy metal. Sadly he’s not with the band anymore and the music just isn’t the same. Howard Jones is Killswitch Engage!
this brings back memories ahah
Just listening to this all I can see in my head is endless crowd surfing.
They actually pioneered that vocal style and genre (metalcore). The whole hardcore style screaming and growling in the verses but then anthemic choruses with clean singing style a ton of bands have now. They were the first to do it and make it popular. Their old/current singer especially. Their second album alive or just breathing really put them and the style on the map. Unfortunately Jesse left the band after that album and Howard left in 2012 when Jesse returned
yes! great choice. please do more from the 2000s metalcore genre. KSE, Parkway Drive, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red and so many more great bands!
