    What if slytherin didn’t want muggle borns in the school because that was a time when muggles feared and killed wizards and slytherin just wanted to protect the students from muggles. I saw this somewhere else but forgot where so I would credit the person if I knew who thought of this lol

      No, his views were extreme for the time, and even if they weren’t, that measure is far too drastic to be done with good intentions.

      The Salem Witch trials occurred between 1692-1693 the books take place say about 1990? And Dumbledore stated in goblet of fire that the triwizard tournament went back around 700 years ago and The founders existed likely way before the Tri-Wizard tournament. So the founders were around I’d say pre- 1200’s? Also The European witch trials existed between 1580-1630.

      @@giraffedragon6110 it is stated in the books that Salazar Slythein was against letting muggleborns into Hogwarts because he "didn't trust them, thought they are a danger to the wizarding community and believed they will eventually expose the wizarding world to the muggles" i'm not 100% sure which book it's in but i think it was CoS

    Actually, Salazar might not have been as evil as you might think. Yes, Salazar was prejudiced against Muggles... But it was for good reason.
    At the time Salazar was alive, around 1000 years ago. The punishment for witchcraft was... *BEING BURNED AT THE STAKE*
    They weren't just snapping your wand, or making you sit in the back of the carriage, they were *BURNING WIZARDS ALIVE.*
    So, that means that Salazar wasn't just going, 'Oh, muggleborns aren't as good as us.'
    He was going 'THESE MUGGLES ARE BURNING US AT THE STAKE, AND YOU ALL ARE INVITING THERE CHILDREN TO OUR SCHOOL!?'
    So, when he saw that muggles were being treated as equals after what they did in the past, he hatched the basilisk to kill them, and left Hogwarts.
    This is even supported as in the books, it is quoted that Salazar thought that Muggles were 'Untrustworthy'
    Not unworthy, but untrustworthy.

    Not all Ravenclaws are stuck-up (Luna Lovegood)

    And not all Slytherins do not feel love (Severus Snape)

    • @Dark_Voice
      @Dark_Voice 7 років тому +27

      Its just that if you take all the Houses as rulers.
      Hufflepull are the servants, Ravenclaw are the advisors, Gryffindors are battle generals and Slytherins are the Kings.
      People see servants as weak because they have no position or they have no recognition but might as well help the others find solutions. The advisors as not as remembered because its the King that makes the decisions in the end. Generals win battles under the flag of King so they are well known for a time but usually Kings outlast them. While there are good kings, the bad ones are remembered. Its like who was president of Germany betweem 1926-1934? Who was the Chancellor of Germany between 1934 - 1945? I think many will know the second one is Adolf Hitler, that the first one was Paul von Hindenburg not nearly as many know.
      The darker people usually burn much deeper into history. Thats why Slytherins are seen as evil.

    • @michelcharbonnier7603
      @michelcharbonnier7603 6 років тому +6

      I agree with most of that, except two things:
      Hitler was only Chancellor/"Reichskanzler" for one and a half years, from January 1933 until August 1934. Then he became both Chancellor AND President in 1934, creating the post of the "Führer" for the rest of his dictatorship.
      And while I agree with your characterization of both Hufflepuffs as servants and Ravenclaws as advisors, you got Gryffindor and Slytherin wrong.
      Gryffondors main trait is being incredibly brave, botherline reckless. Slytherins are much more calculating, analytical and cunning.
      Therefore, Gryffindors would be the shiny knights, bravely fighting in famous wars and receiving all the glory, while Slytherins would be the generals, pulling all the strings and influencing people to their advantage.

    You cannot call Salazar Slytherin 'evil', you cannot call him 'good'. Because, in truth, there is no 'good' and 'evil' - 'good' and 'evil' are in the eye of the beholder, as are many things. I think the same of 'Dark' magic. You see, even the greatest villains of muggle history are - in their own minds - heroes - and they always have their reasons. Although, their reasons can be petty. Also, there is no shadow without light - neither light without shadow. And, why should 'evil' magic be any different? So, it is reasonable to assume that Salazar was a hero - in his own mind - and had some reason for his acts. Salazar, was a man - nothing more - who - like many Slytherins - was determined to act upon his - admittedly misguided - ideals. Salazar was not 'evil', merely misguided. But, I will admit his ideals were wrong - rather than benefiting it, they were bad for the human race - but you cannot call someone 'good' or 'evil' - humans are much more complex than that.
    Also, I'd love to see a Founders Film, it would be very interesting.

    • @kristoffanelson348
      @kristoffanelson348 5 років тому +3

      I totally agree with your take on humanity and our complex nature. But I have to say this the willingness to take another person's life especially on a large scale and unprovoked I might add (kill him he is not a pure blood) does ring an evil bell.

    I actually feel kind of Sorry for Slytherin. I mean he was a founder of Hogwarts, and the other three are supposed to be his friends at first right. But then Hogwarts is nothing what he wanted it to be. If we look at Hogwarts - aside from House Slytherin - there's nothing that can be attributed to him. I assume his life must have gone like this: after years of helping building the school they finally sit together to talk more about the details.
    S: "Obviously we only teach pure-blood students." Gryffindor/Hufflepuff: "No, we teach all of them." S:"Well I think, we could teach Halfbloods too." G/H: "No, we'll teach all of them!" S: "Alright... but my own house that won't admit halfblood and muggleborn." G: "Haven't we already decided my hat will decide which student join what house once we're dead?" S:"God damn it, Godric!", G/H/R: "Oh and btw. we just decided your house will be at the dungeons. So you'll have a short way to the potion classes." S: "Oh thanks, I guess. But what about my Dark Arts classes?" G/H/R: "Dark Arts? Oh about that... We've decided we'll not teach those." S: "Well... okay..."
    So they lived for a few years, Slythering being an apparent founder and teacher in a school that followed none of his ideas, until he finally left... I'm not saying he had any good ideas... But this has to be depressing. This is his life's work, and it is nothing like he wanted it to be.

    • @lolarose8973
      @lolarose8973 7 років тому +8

      I guess but in that context you are just making Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw look bad. Also lets just say what if Slytherin only wanted the dungeon? OH COME ON.... Just to let you know, the Slytherin and Peveree family (IDK how to spell it) joint to create the house of Gaunt. Harry is a descendant of the Peveree Family so that might be why Harry can speak Parseltounge as well as being Voldermort's Horcrux.

      Coughay While harry is a descendant he is also a normal person the gaunts tended to marry close relatives and even do incest in order to keep the bloodline pure. It is very possible that slytherin has various descendants but the parsel mouth trait has just been breeded out or become a rescecive trait. This is all weird genealogy since well it's all a theory

      But the Potter family only inherited the Cloak of invisibility not the resurrection stone which belonged to Catmus Peverell the 2nd brother, meaning while they were related the Peverell ancestry for the Potters and the Gaunts split off years before they could inherit parsltungue. As for why Salazar Slytherins descendants were so uncommon is because of how much incest went into pure blood families, not only reducing family size but also affecting the fertility of a family as seen with the Habsburg family in real life.

    Wait a second I just realized that Salazar encouraged the teaching of Dark Arts in a SECRET Room when no one else approved of it... isn't that exactly what Harry did in Book 5? The ministry disapproved of teaching defensive spells, but Harry, Ron, and Hermione encouraged the teaching of them in a SECRET room... I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

      FinalFantasy7Freak6 Harry does have Voldemort in him. I suggest you watch FilmTheory's video entitled "More Voldemort than you think" or something like that. It states that Tom did not equally divide his soul into the horcruxes. Assuming his soul is divided in half every time he made a horcrux, his own soul was less than 1% in his body. Whilst Harry, though not mentioned in the video, was said to have absorbed Voldemort's soul whenever he destorys a horcrux. Put two and two together, and technically, Harry is Voldemort.
      that is, before the final battle when Voldy killed all the voldemort inside of him. so yahh :)

      Yeah.. It's a little weird like that. You have to watch a certain amount of the video for it to count as a view, and then the comments and likes come. Also, since views are counted differently, the algorithms have to do some weird things, so there is some delay from views are made to them showing up compared to the simple counting of likes and comments.

  • @matyldaczajka328
    @matyldaczajka328 7 років тому +6

    Okay, theory from me....
    This theory has nothing to do with Salazar Slytherin but hear me out.....
    Seamus said that Hogwarts was a school built in (...) A.D (anno domino....after Christ) which doesn't add up because, you know Olivander (was making wands since) fine wand making since (...) B.C (before Christ)
    That's what it says on the shop, so if Olivander was making wands since B.C how did existing wizards know how to use them? If Hogwarts was made in A.D. Surely, each and every other place in the world needs to have something similar to Diagon Alley, like Durmstrang schools, have wands that were made from Gregorovic the Beaubaxtons (idk how to spell it) have a wand maker as well...
    So the point is if the wands were in making before the school, who used them SURELY it was wizards but how? If they didn't know spells and other stuff like that like where would they learn the spells if there was no school? Did they go to other schools? Or did they just KNOW what spells to use??? I know that Google might not be the most reliable source on when Hogwarts was made exactly, but I mean Google is somewhat reliable.....
    This is not really a Theory but just a longer question that I need an answer to....

    • @rika5445
      @rika5445 7 років тому +3

      Well... the founders had to learn their magic somewhere ;) I think small magical communities excisted since the beginning of humanity or others who lived more or less unrecogniced by muggles. They just experimented when they found out about their powers and were teaching their children and friends what they knew. Others where kind of like mad scientists (probably with their own apprentices) and trying to create new stuff like nicolas flamel (or Lunas mom).

    Okay. Get ready for a rant from a Slytherclaw.
    We all know that Hogwarts was founded around the Medieval era in Europe when *muggles persecuted people they thought were witches*. So, it makes sense that Slytherin was skeptical to tell muggle-borns about magic, because they had been raised learning that witchcraft was evil. I think he agreed to let them in, though, because the wizarding world was more likely to be exposed if untrained wizards and witches were running around unable to control their magic. My guess is that one of the muggle borns used magic outside of school and almost exposed the wizarding world to muggles. So Slytherin probably wanted to stop letting in muggle borns into the school and the others didn't agree.
    Now, about the basilisk thing, What if, the Chamber of Secrets was actually a safe house, that the students could hide in if the school was attacked, and the basilisk was the weapon? We know that the details about things get twisted a lot so perhaps the legend of the the Chamber of Secrets got turned into the one in the books over the centuries.
    About the whole, Dark Arts thing, if Slytherin did just want to protect his students, he wouldn't just teach them defense. You don't win a fight by holding your opponent back until help can come, especially in the real world. He probably just wanted to give the students the ability to end a fight. Plus, there's no proof that Slytherin helped with Vulchanova's murder. Maybe Munter agreed with Slytherin, but didn't let him in on the plot.

    I agree! They should make a movie on the founders. It can’t really be so hard to write a story about it can it? Well, I can’t but I bet Rowling can! The founders have so much potential for an intriguing, deep story. That’s just what I think. 🙂

      Amber Rogue I'm pretty sure that it is definitely not in Scandinavia because of the way they talk in both the books and films. Also what they eat and how they act. I'm from one of the Scandinavian countries so I have a little expertise

    • @TheLuckOfTheClaw
      @TheLuckOfTheClaw 7 років тому +5

      Nope, they're not cousins (unless you count second cousins and more distant as cousins). Both Harry and Voldemort are descendants of the Peverells but there's no proof that the Peverells are descendants of Salazar Slytherin.

    • @Abahsolomon
      @Abahsolomon 6 років тому +4

      But Voldemort is a decendent of Slytherin. So Harry is very distantly related to Slytherin.

    • @rebeccayasmine.5904
      @rebeccayasmine.5904 6 років тому +2

      Abahsolomon no if voldemort is related to slytherin from is dads side for example and is related to Harry from his mom's s side slytherin and Harry wouldn't be related. I don't know exactly how Harry and voldemort are related and I don't won't to research now, so these are only examples. And also sorry for my English it isn't my first language.

    I'm so confused about Durmstrang, you say Scandinavia (I live in Finland) and Dumbledore say friends from the North, which would make sense if it was in Scandinavia. So technically I would go there, but why is Victor Krum there when he is Bulgarian that is more towards Baltia and Russia geographically than in Scandinavia?

      I would actually go to Ilvermorny in North America since I have always lived in the U.S.A.; therefore, my house would be Thunderbird. The only downside going to this school would be that I would not be able to take my wand home until I came of age in the Wizarding World.
