Found a bearing with the smallest amount of play on an 046 today and the cage had deteriorated. A couple of hours later I watched your vid and had a chuckle. Spot on Tinman 👊
You do real good work I like the way how you show how you fix the problem things no body else does that. What I like was how you got that stuck clutch off that 038 Stihl.
IVE PUT THE SAW DOG IN THE VICE TO HOLD THE SAW IN PLACE , AND GRABBED A 1/2 inch 2 foot breaker bar WITH 3/4 socket works good ,always removes stihl clutches for me,for the crank seal so it doesnt prolapse the lip ,you can cut metal from a pop can ,and roll the metal like a cigar ,so it will slide over the crankshaft end for the shim ,then slide your seal down works good, great job TINMAN
Do yourself a favor buy a dewalt 1/2 inch battery impact and just leave a spark plug in it and it brings them right off and they are handy as hell for changing tires or anything
Strongly recommend Stihl seals on these saws. Tried a couple of aftermarket clutches as Stihl clutches are getting hard to come by. Rejected the aftermarket clutches in favour of getting new clutch springs and clutch shoes using the original clutch carriers. Thinking that you won't have the option of reusing the clutch carrier....
One reason the impact did not work is that without a solid stop and hit an impact wrench is largely ineffective. An impact wrench works by using solid mechanical blows. The rope in the cylinder acts like a cushion softening each blow like a pillow. Driving a press fit pin into a hole always works much better when backed up by something solid and hardly at all when placed onto something soft and spongy. Same principle here. I like the rope in the cylinder for most work but when you need a solid stop as in this case, I use one

250 timing number are fairly hot out of box alot of work to tear down. Muffle mod it and retune carb if you still want more. Gonna need to move up in saw size.
Mechanical Engineer Proverb: The solution is finding the right size hammer to hit it with. In your case, an air "hammer"
Keep up the great content!

Bought the Stihl tools a few years ago several different sizes but makes it much easier.
i had a stihl come in today with a bad oil pump. i was at my whits end with the clutch not coming off. i will definitely try this!
I have a 3 foot length of scaffolding pole that I slip over the end of the socket wrench - leverage wins every time!
Ooh I had the socket dish problem that weekend, thanks for the tip

We have just started seeing trucks for sale in several yards. It's almost time to buy
Nice hearing the house is coming back together. As for new vehicles: you're going to wind up with whatever is actually in stock.
That sums up the car market right now for sure!!
Good stuff as always. Glad to see the house is coming along. TC Tinman Mahalo🤙🤙🤙
Nice fix tinman. I will remember that one. Appreciate it ❤️🌲🪓👊🏻🙏
Tinman is replace those springs on that clutch to be safe , they loose there strength after getting hot like that
Love the content as always tinman. Can't wait for the next portion

bout time ya flipped that dog over!😆😆😆😆😆great video's Tinman!
Gonna be awesome saw!!!!
To me, that saw is just new enough and has just enough "patina" and battle rash to be a good toss er round, git-er-done work saw!
Lots of friends.
You would have made a great teacher tinman💪
Also my wife has a RAV 4. I really like it.
Good call! Turn the saw upsidedown!
use a 50/50 mix of acetone & atf oil it works great
Wish I could send you a picture of how I cut my socket. Cut it so it has 3 fingers that goes into the clutch.
I did not see you put a spring back under the seal, did I miss that ?
I recommend a Chevy suburban with a two stroke great on fuel 🤣😊
Did you know that a scrunch will actually undo that very small bolt on the clutch! Just did it

I'd pick up a Honda Crosstour, Toyota Venza, or even a highlander.
That would be some of my picks.
I wish you would strip this thing down because I did that to my son and I'm having a difficult time putting it back together 1994 038
Thanks for flipping that dog… lol
Buy a 1000 W handheld induction heater
Find you a nice third gen 4Runner. You’ll have it for the rest of your life if you take care of it.
You install the seal with out grease or oil?
Tinman, got a ms250 any pointers on porting? Or even worth it?
