Whoops I committed blasphemy! Here's some clarifications and corrections bc y'all gonna out nerd me in the comments. The M1887 also has a 10 gauge variant. No 20G though Yes there are some custom AR-15s with side charging handles, but those are the exception, not the rule. Plus it's cursed. And No, the service rifle is not based on the .308 AR-10 at all. The shape of the receiver and furniture is completely different. It's very clearly a 5.56 M16 with wood furniture. The AR-10 doesn't have wood furniture btw, it's just brown fiberglass. Apparently after decades of wear and tear, the M1 Garand's bolt may stop automatically closing during a reload, so perhaps that part checks out after all. (I'm just going off what some people said in the comments for this one) The bolt on the cowboy repeater clips through the rear sight when cycling the action. Literally unplayable Your character holds the AMR with a traditional rifle grip, despite it having a pistol grip. Completely missed that detail oof
I really like that the Survivalist's Rifle has "Arrêt!" and "Stop!" on the stock, implying he was a checkpoint guard in Canada and wanted to communicate with both English and French-speaking Canadians.
Well, as a french, "stop" is totally part of our language so it wouldn't be necessary to use another french word, only maybe for radical french canadians who translate every single English words
Yeah but he wouldn't necessarily know and he'd probably just see the stop signs in Québec that say "Arrêt" or "Arrêt/Stop" and carve "Arrêt" on his stock as a result. @@kainey
The reason the lmg is so weird is in part because there’s a hard limitation in the base game for the amount of animations you could put in. It was such a problem that a mod that was able to fix it was revolutionary for the nv animation community
I remember being really annoyed with that a long time back. Looking to get NV on PC after having played on PS3 for years, finding out that there were all these awkward hard limits which got in the way of fixing things like these. I was glad to hear that people finally got around it. I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Obsidian to be putting out the game they did under their tight constraints, it's buggy, but by god did they put in all kinds of fun content.
I need to look at the comments before I make my own. I just wrote this same comment. For anyone looking for modern high quality animations, Hitman has been doing a good job on Nexus.
for the service rifle, another lore reason to use wood furniture in fallout is due to petroleum oil, a major ingredient for polymer, was in very short supply, even pre war.
A lot of the animation weirdness comes from the limited number of animations available due to engine limitations. You got La Longue Carabine right - it reuses the reload of the BB Gun, because there was no available reload animation for a toploader that wouldn't have had very obvious clipping with the scope. I imagine there's a similar reason for the Hunting Shotgun's idle animation.
To be fair, it's not like they didn't make new animations and weapon mechanics at all. If they could program various ammo types and individual round reloading with with pump shotgun I imagine they could have made a couple more animations to better fit the lmgs for example
@@PhoenicopterusR It's still an important reminder that must be repeated ad nauseam. Kinda like one must remind oneself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. The sheer difference in the time it took Bethesda to modify Oblivion into F3 (4 years total dev time, 2 years in the oven alongside Oblivion, the turf couldn't be more homely) and the time it took Obsidian to modify F3 into FNV (1.5 years as per Bethesda's mandate, in an entirely unfamiliar garbage bin of an engine) must always be taken into account. Bethesda always has ample time to develop their all around ineptly made flops, yet their competitor is only allowed so much time with the license.
If I recall correctly, the devs decided to put the lesser known PGM Hecate II because so many other games had the Barrett 50 and they just wanted something different.
If I’m not mistaken the story behind the Bozar was that in Fallout 2 it was originally intended to be a sniper rifle, but due to either a bug or a mistake it ended up being both automatic and somewhat overpowered, and they ended up making that first part canon when FNV added it.
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 Vindicator minigun probably. The one that uses fancy futuristic-looking AP ammo. If I remember correctly it either has longer bursts or allows to shoot more times per reload. Longer/more frequent bursts mean higher DPT and you can easily dispatch crowds of enemies per 1 turn due to how "spread" on bursts works. Bozar on the other hand shoots bursts of 15 rounds and requires you to spend Action Points on reloading after 2 bursts. I think it uses cheaper ammo and is somewhat easier to get and feed when it comes to cash. Gauss weaponry could be good too. Since you can build a character that's capable of firing a Gauss Pistol half a dozen times or so per turn into eyes or groin of your enemy. Perhaps some energy weapons are also good but they always felt underwhelming so I can't say for sure.
The hunting shotgun has such a weird animation because it uses the default rifle animations, which have the Courier's hand pretty far back. So instead of making a whole new set of animations, they just altered the firing animation to suit it. All a part of the "this game was made in 18 months" factor.
Bethesda's weird take on the GameBryo engine was not too friendly to work with as I understand, it took modders quite a long time to figure out how to let the engine have more animations than the default ones.
Okay so, the bent iron sights on the survivalist rifle are actually Zeroed just fine. If you line it up just to the right of the irons, it's dead accutate
It's not zeroed then. Yeah it will still shoot exactly where the cross hair lines up but the sights aren't aligned properly. You have to aim slightly to the right of the front sights right-most protection ear
What I do like about the lore behind the Survivalists Rifle is the fact it was being used as a checkpoint rifle at the Canadian border. If you know how .50 Beowolf came to be it was meant to be used on a swapable upper for the M4 and M16 for the military to use as a checkpoint rifle. The idea was to use a cartridge that could potentially disable a vehicles engine. It wasn't super effective so it's main market is with civilians now but in the Fallout timeline it was apparently adopted as 12.7mm.
That's about dead on actually. Randall was issued it from a Canadian armory during the annexation, and he was in his early to mid 20s when the nukes dropped, and he died in his 70s.
@@unoriginalperson72 The original comment stated that Randall had it for 50 years. He was a direct Great War survivor. Nobody said the rifle was 50 years old.
@@unoriginalperson72 No, it doesn't. Randall Clark acquired the rifle in Canada, not too long before the Great War. He was in his early to mid 20s when the nukes fell, and he had it for 50 years by the time he died in his 70s. The rifle is still 200 years old.
Problems with New Vegas guns: That isn't how that specific gun works/usually is equipped. Problems with Fallout 4 guns: That isn't how conservation of energy, mass, or any gun works.
Survivalist rifle is INTENDED to be more like Beowulf, but instead of adding a whole new ammo type they just shrugged and let it use 12.7 which is more like .50AE
@@Seriona1 No, 12.7mm is simply .50cal in metric. You are thinking specifically of 12.7×108mm which is even slightly longer-cased than .50BMG. The 12.7mm in FNV is closer to the .50AE desert eagle ammo.
Something I remember hearing about Fallout 3/NV is that the reason the guns all keep sharing animations is due to an engine limitation that has a hard cap of registered animations. I think its only in the last two or three years that a new add-on framework was created that allows for per-weapon animations.
The Garand/Battle Rifle really missed an opportunity to have the "garand thumb" situation happen when it starts to malfunction due to repair state. Imagine being in a heated battle with a Deathclaw when you have to reload and you manage to catch your thumb in the port :P
@maestrofeli4259 There is literally a mod where at low guns skill and / or low weapon condition you Garand Thumb yourself and take a small amount of damage, maybe just 1 point.
As someone with a 1942 M1 Garand, it’s quite common for a lot of M1s to not automatically charge forward after releasing pressure. This is usually do to wear n tear over the years and given that these rifles are probably hundreds of years old I’d be surprised if any of them could still do it. I have to slam mine forward every time so no garand thumb for me :( love the video!
@@lurch789 Well if it wasn't all completely original parts and served in the Pacific than maybe I would :) but there's an undeniable beauty in having an iconic piece of history with all it's authentic parts still in tact, something you probably don't know much about
The bolt's not supposed to slam forward when you load a fresh clip in anyway, the bolt catch is supposed to hold it back until you pull the charging handle back manually but it's just really sensitive to jiggling loose and dropping the bolt when you fiddle with it.
the whole Bozar trying to be a sniper/machine gun hybrid is a call back to Fo2 where the Bozar was meant to be a sniper weapon but a bug turned it into a machine gun so when they brought the gun back in Fnv they tried to make it good at both roles only to make it really bad at both
I never noticed the forward assist coming back detail. Also, the assault carbine is pretty useful since it has the armor piercing capability by default
@@titan1umtitan It doesn't really work in this case, the forward assist is outright just a little springloaded plunger which is held captive by a pin. If the pin broke off, the plunger would just sproing out and drop to the ground, there's nothing that would drive it back if it were to come out that far.
So I think the reason the garand bolt being needed to move forward is because it’s so old at this point. Its common on worn out M1’a to have a sticky charging handle
6:05 I believe we got nuked to oblivion at the start of the Great War. The TV news guy in Fallout 4 said there were US forces marshalling in the Bohol Sea, so we're presumably a US territory in 2077 and likely given the nuclear treatment too.
Oddly enough, having shot , and known those who have shot more, the M1. The infamous M1-Thumb... It's not really a thing. Your thumb hinges, not stretches. The only way you could do it, under normal use, would cause problems getting the clip to lock in. You would have to be pushing down on the noses of the rounds, and basically shove your thumb into the chamber. In the normal place you shove, the bolt pushes your thumb out of the way. The ONE time I managed to bite myself, it barely even hurt.
It's because soldiers were panicking when bullets were flying at them and were just stuffing the rounds in sometimes backwards and having to flip em around and in the panic they just stuff it in too far and it chomps on their finger
@@dakotagau That's also not true. It has nothing to do with technique or how you're handling the rifle. Garand thumb is caused by using worn out / reused clips, or a well used rifle. Back when the Garand was relevant, neither of those were common. Sure, it could happen, but it was rare since ammo was issued already in the clips. Unless you reloaded them in the field, you were going to be using a brand new one every time. Garand thumb is much more of a modern thing than anything else since most M1s and their clips being used these days are beat up antiques.
Yep. Shot Garands a lot myself, never once got the infamous M-1 thumb. I did one time not pay enough attention when I was re-loading a Luger, and I managed to get my finger caught in the toggle.. That wasn't fun, but no real damage.
@@sahrotkro7048 ua-cam.com/video/GJJeBXZeVZU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/4PL6UyEW218/v-deo.html The technical cause is the operating rod catch not engaging with the rod. That's caused by not pulling the bolt back all the way, or with a worn rifle that won't properly catch it.
Apparently the service rifle was going to have a red dot sight modification that is unused by the game for some reason but due to the unused model in the game files tale of two wastelands was able to restore it
3:54 In the lore, the assault carbine was used as a paratrooper gun, and the reason they used 5mm for it was because its lighter and more portable than 5.56.
My headcanon about the riot shotgun is that it was intended for less lethal and tear gas shells for riot control (thus the name), which is why it has a drum mag and no stock, as it would fire shells with less propellant have less recoil. And since in the post war people have to make do with what they find, they use it with letal rounds. Would be cool if it had more recoil than all other shotguns to indicate this.
Isn't the reason most semiauto shotguns still include the pump action mode is because less lethal shells energy is not enough to cycle the action? And if you made an action light enough to cycle those, the standard power ammo would blow up the gun?
@@sanyaskillproto my knowledge there are very few dual mode shotgun’s the m3 benelli and spas 12 are most common and the m3 is marketed as a law enforcement tool. All the semi auto shotguns I come across do not have the ability to use a pump action and are used for sport and hunting.
I don't know if you noticed, but the courier holds the anti materiel rifle wrong. The gun clearly has a pistol grip but you hold it like it has a rifle grip. Not exactly worthy of a perfect score.
Actually for the Service Rifle one of the Dev's Josh Sawyer commented that the service rifles are pre-War, and are a "sorta" mish-mash of an AR-15 and AR-10a. If you look up the orginal AR-10a prototype you will see it has a charging handle on the side
The Service Rifle is the M16A1 with wooden furniture with a C7 lower. So if you can't find a C7 lower, replace it with a A2 model and you basically have the rifle on par.
@@lurch789they most definitely can. Just make the guns look worn, use wood furniture, and don't use advanced optics like red dots and holosights. But NOT because its an alternate timeline, but because such things are unavailable in 200+ years into the post apocalypse.
20:07 The reload for LLC is actually reused from the BB Gun, and the awkward animation where you just play with the tube and its fully loaded is shared with Fallout 3's Lever-Action Rifle.
The worst part about the problems with the All-American and Survivalist's Rifle is that they're prewar manufacture. You can chalk problems with the Service Rifle and other guns made by the Gun Runners up to problems with wasteland machining or knowledge gaps, but the AA and SR were explicitly made before the war.
@@KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva Do not fear, Presidente! I have simply been searching everywhere for the blueprints I lost a little bit ago. I have not found them yet, but Reddit is looking promising!
No. You can chalk up the problems with the Assault Carbine, Marksman Carbine, Survivalist Rifle, and its variants due to the game really only having a year of actual development time.
13:56 Pistol grip in BAR was earlier - in Rkm wz. 28 (Polish version of BAR), it also had changed sights, bipod, longer ribbed barrel and converted to 7.92x57mm
The marksman carbine's scope was SUPPOSED to be an acog/red dot, but they couldnt figure out how to intuitively let you switch between the two so they just made the red dot into the tumor.

the service rifle forward assist fuckup is due to the FNV engine limitations its made that way so it can be used during the malfunction animation, its most likely connected to the bolt in the model
the worst part about the service rifles and its counterparts is that there IS side charging Armalite receivers and bolts but those were completely ignored
Yeah, but thats the exception NOT the rule, after all. Most have the t-shape pully one and modeling a gun after custom/rare models instead of the main deal when the gun is one of the most common in both videogames and irl is going to screw you over sometimes, even if in a small, tiny way. Still, the service rifle is probably my favorite gun (after the medicine stick) so its still a great design.
@@miguelguedes3411 we’re basing this off real world rules in a sci-fi alt history world. In 3 and 4 most rifles are side charge as well. In world, this could be any number of things, from the immense influence China and Russia had on the world, to the fact we didn’t evolve our weapons in the same way they do in the fallout universe(looking at WW2 weapons, many used side charging mechanisms, this would fit with the aesthetics of America in fallout, which didn’t change much afterwards). I can’t think of a single rear charged rifle in the series. Considering the modeling in NV, it feels more like a design choice than a simple mistake. It feels more difficult for them to go out of their way to make the weapons side charge than to just model with the normal rear charge of the the AR platform. It’s not really a mistake, just an odd quirk of the aesthetics of fallout.
@archbishopofthecrusades9579 I mean they make side charging handle AR BCGs in real life still so I mean that's at least accurate and I'm more bothered by the forward assist flopping out like someone's pull out game
@@archbishopofthecrusades9579lack of development time. Obsidian only had 18 months to make NV. In practice, they only had 12, the rest was training themselves on the shitty gamebryo engine and optimizing it to fit whay they want to do with NV. Its easier to model a gun based on a real gun to reuse a side charging animation that a few dozen other weapons use, rather than make a unique T-handle animation rig for only 4 rifles in the entire game + DLC.
Unlike future Fallout games (and Starfield) these desing flaws are a product of the limitations on the animations and models for the game at the time as well as with the engine, a remake of the game could give those missing things and details to the weapons of NV
Nothing to do with the year, in which is was made. Limited time, & having to use an outdated engine. The fallout 3 engine couldn't even handle the lightning effects on the strip. They had to mod the engine.
yeah that baffled me too. all this nitpicking and this goes overlooked?wow I guess it's another relic caused by really not wanting to do custom animations for another weapon, it's really where a lot of the problems with Creation Engine weapons originate from
The assault carbine is very effective vs. armored opponents due to the rounds being innately armor-piercing. I think the 5mm round is loosely based on either the British 4.85mm round, but it could also just be something designed in the future. In general, I think most of the weapons in-game are future designs/redesigns rather than old stuff that we already have today.
Funny story, the bozar in fallout 2 was originally going to be a sniper rifle. When they were coding the gun, they fudged up and gave it assault rifle stats (thus the full auto) it is ridiculous, but its my favorite fallout original.
The 5mm in the assault carbine was simply there because josh sawyer wanted something other than the minigun to use the 5mm round. This is probably also why the lever action shotgun is chambered in 20 guage The marksman carbine was supposed to have a top laser dot sight, but they obviously couldn’t figure out how to get that to work in the engine. Bozar is weird ass holdover from fallout 2, the bozar in that game was supposed to be a regular sniper but was made full auto due to a bug. They kept that when adding this into the game The bolt on the cowboy repeater clips through the pinhole sight
12.7mm SMG. Just swap that in for the assault carbine and everything works out. And if you really wanted another weapon that used 12.7mm, you could’ve just made a non unique version of the Survivalists Rifle. IIRC the side of the rifle denotes it as being a “Checkpoint Rifle”.
I hate to be that guy, but the "sight" on the Caravan Shotgun is not an added screw, its the screw holding the action release just, screwed out a little. Which somehow makes it worse.
found this on the wikipedia page on the service rifle Josh Sawyer commented that the service rifles are pre-War, a "sorta" mish-mash of an AR-15 and AR-10. the ar-15 would go on to become the m-16 platform in real life, i looked him up josh sawyer was the project director and lead designer for fallout new vegas
I always forget that the New Vegas Bozar isn't bullpup because one of my favorite mods for Fallout 4 is the Bullpup Bozar. It doesn't help that, as you say in the video, it looks like the NV Bozar is supposed to be bullpup.
As someone who very recently got into the AR platform and even put together my build to replicate the M16A1, I greatly appreciated that breakdown of the Service Rifle to start XD
5mm in fallout universe seems to be some sort of .22 rifle redesign. Essentially, at some point the decision to ditch rimmed rounds never took place and rimmed rounds are a thing. From the looks of it in original game it seems that it's either some sort of .22 hornet derrivative (Which makes sense history-wise, cartridge was studied for implementation in actual army rifles before the rimmed rounds ditch), but armor properties seem to look at certain modifications. The closest IRL counterpart that comes to mind is little known 4.5×26mm MKR cartridge, essentially a .22 winchester round necked to an aerodynamical pornography of 4.5mm bullet. Neat little thing that, unfortunately, never took off.
5mm ammo was apparently supposed to be a semitruncated round based on a few late 80s-mid 90s prototype rounds the authors read about that never really took off.
@@DIEGhostfish Well, MKR just so happen to be one of those prototypes, which got far enough to have v2 prototypes where devs actually start to play with style. Mind you, Interdynamic got weird taste, but taste nonetheless.
Considering the Fallout universe has so many little variations (like no one ever inventing the GUI), an analysis of realism with the guns does have to consider the plausibility of alternate history scenarios of what pre war guns were like
@@AbsolXGuardian It's not really about "no one inventing the GUI". World of fallout got two major changes: advanced nuclear tech and extremely backwards computers because transistor was never invented. Essentially, it rolls from there, having hot stuff like G11, but your run on the mill tank not having fire control system to speak of. As a result, there are no good HEAT rounds (The advances of HEAT were actually mathematical, after machines started to calculate their configurations, we rolled from 50-80mm to 200-400mm range very fast) Because vehicles suck, designs like power armor might actually work since real time computer learning suspensions are not happening.
Should mention with the sights on the LMG. There are some guns that have sights like that. Specifically on the Lakeside Vindicator. It’s a super odd system, but does exist in real rifle.
I thought the reason the La Longue Carabine was reloaded through the barrel was because to attach the scope, Cpl Sterling had to weld the round feed closed. If you look at the gun, it's covered in welding marks FROM him modifying it this way. I always thought it was weird as a kid, too, but there IS a reason for it.
I don’t know if anyone has said this yet but the bolt not closing immediately after pushing the enblock in on the battlefrifle (m1 garand) really makes since if the rifle hasn’t been cleaned or greased up. It was a common thing to manually push the bolt forward on the Garand in unfavorable conditions, like the a dusty wasteland. Loved the video and new Vegas tho :)
In regards to the ACOG issue you brought up when I served in the military, I had an ACOG with both the basic kind of reticle that the marksman carbine has and the Chevron reticle for my M4, so both do exist and have seen military service
On the M1 Garrand, we could consider the age of it, by the time of the game, the M1 is like 400 years old, the receiveer is likely just a little sticky
6:13 Interesting note. There is an Italian-Filipino mad Max knockoff from 1985 that has a faction much like thr NCR and a rocketship cult like the Hubologists or Bright Followers.
The Assault Carbine being in 5mm makes it much better than if it were in 5.56. 5mm AP rounds ignore 25 DT. So...a "pea shooter" that ignores almost all of the armor in the game.
I can't stand when people tell me my Survivalists Rifle is "wrong" because it's not side charging. I literally do not care, I'm not cutting up a C7 upper because some modeler didn't look closely enough at the IRL thing or they ran out of time to do another reload animation.
I think the reason why the casings are so huge is so that they could be seen easier on the lower resolution everyone had back in the day. Just a thought
@@Pigness7yeah, the guy completely ignores very widely known facts about the guns in NV, and is completely inconsistent with how he rates them; half the time it’s how much he likes the gun lmao. Honestly these reviews are cinemasins levels of bad
garand thumb probably was never an issue in actual combat but when the rifle is empty it can be an issue because most people just put the clip back in it which is where you actually get garand thumb because there arent any bullets to stop it it will just kinda slam forward but in normal operation you would only get garand thumb with a heavily used and worn m1 garand. when you load the m1 the bullets stop it from slamming forward under its own power you have to bump the charging handle to get it to go into battery
In my head the Fallout 5mm round is something like the g11 4,73x33 mm experimental round. Something between .30 carbine and 5,56 kinetic emergy wise. A small, very lightweight and very fast experimental round (very high velocity and low bullet mass could explain the armor piercing capabilities and low damage)
In Fallout 2, which had both the G11's caseless round and 5mm, the 5mm was a little heavier. I'm guessing it was essentially meant to be what the P90 or MP7 was chambered in, which could also explain how a man portable minigun was possible.
G11s are caseless though, so that's clearly not it. Also...4.73x33 is CONSIDERABLY SMALLER than 5.56, and thus it wouldn't make sense for its ballistics to somehow be between 7.62 and 5.56.
@@ssjbread2803 Didn’t mean 5mm was caseless, just that it was in the energy range of 4,73x33. .30 carbine is a 1100 j round, 5,56 is a 1600-1700j round, we know g11 had a muzzle velocity of 930 m/s, on par with very hot 5,56 but with smaller bullets. With a very light round (something like a 40 grain 5mm projectile) and speeds like the g11 round you would get a very flat shooting , low recoil round with significant armor penetration potential and a kinetic energy somewhere between .30 carbine and 5,56
There are a bunch of .19 and .20 cartridges around and it's not too crazy to imagine that in that timeline they went with different rounds than 5.56. Or maybe had both, 5.56mm and 5mm in use simultaneously and didn't come around to decide on one. Now I'm waiting for someone to mod us the FAL in .280 like originally envisioned.

Couple of fun facts for you Brandy. The Marksman Carbine is actually a Colt 933/Car15 as well just with a Magpul PRS stock, M468 SIR handguard, and Acog. The Assault Carbine is a Colt model 733. The Service Rifle is a Colt model 715 due to the forward assist shape and M16A1 brass deflector.
The Anti material rifle should get 4.5 bottlecaps because theres obviously a pistol or rifle grip for the player to hold but the animation shows the player holding that 600 ton weapon being held like the m1 garand
I can definitely appreciate your pedantry about the fine details here, but the larger sized cases being ejected -- I'm pretty sure is just for effect to make them noticable. I mean I suppose they should've scaled up pistol cases for guns like the cowboy repeater instead of using rifle casings, but I'm positive they did it just so you'd notice your cases ejecting 🤷. Overall, I think the devs did a decently believable job with most of the weapons in the game with the absolutely crunched schedule they had
Due to the global shortages of petroleum, the manufacture of polymers would be very limited and much more costly. The polymer-body "tacticool" weapons are canonical and would be used in more specialized roles, so wood and metal bodies for standard-issue firearms in the prewar era also made logical sense.
I see it like this: Before the global crude oil shortage affected the US, polymer firearms were still being manufactured and prevalent in the military and the civilian market. Late into the Sino-American War and after the global crude oil shortage affected the US. The US military industrial complex started using non-petroleum based materials for their weapons and changed their doctrine to be less reliant on crude-oil derived products. Hence the all metal or wood furniture firearms, and general lack of fuel guzzling air support.
I do suspect that Bethesda told Obsidian (the devs for FNV in the case there's that 1% that don't know who developed the game at this point) to cross reference guns as best they could and make what they did manage to get working in game with the assets from Fallout 3, because FNV probably has more guns than Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 does have a few AK like rifles so that could be where the more curved like magazines are coming from for the AR weapons in FNV whenever available, Obsidian likely didn't have the time/budget maybe even both given Bethesda's track record of releasing buggy releases to make the guns look and feel more authentic to their RL counterparts.
The main reason for the weapon and animation errors is that Fallout NV was made in the old times where the entire game had to fit on a single double sided DVD or less than 5GB. So choosing between altering the guns and clipping animations or cutting content to save invaluable storage space, we know which the developer chose.
6:05 “…And as far as we know, Filipinos don’t exist in Fallout.” Meanwhile here I am playing a Fallout game with a Filipino-ethnic character that also makes great use of his 2A rights. This isn’t only because of representation sake by the way because I happen to be Filipino myself. But it’s also because I’m writing a book that has this protagonist which I’ve created him through Fallout 4’s character creation along with the wonderful mods that we have access to. The book is called “The Road Ranger” and it’s about a young former Army Ranger veteran who wants to reconnect with his parents after serving/fighting for six years as a conscript. Although things were going well in the beginning, things slowly take an ugly turn after his mother and stepfather are going through a bad patch and weeks later, his mom is shot dead by a sniper which is the catalyst of the story’s main events. He tries to let the police do their job but after his lady friend, *hint hint wink wink* an FBI agent Maria Garcia, tells him they decided to not go through the investigation despite her best efforts on his behalf, Matt decides to take matters into his own hands by looking for the murderer himself and kill anyone who gets in the way. The story is inspired by The Punisher but also carries heavy inspirations from Fallout. Mainly being the world the characters live in like their hometown of Calivada which is California and Nevada as one country after an apocalyptic event, and his sleek black full-body armor which is described to be a full set of tactical gear but his helmet strongly resembles the NCR Veteran Ranger helmet. The service rifle closer to an AR-10 with a couple of AR-15 bits Frankensteined in there, always though it was a cool gun, especially the survivalist rifle version from honest hearts.
I kinda get the feeling you label a gun as "wrong" because it isn't accurate to real life, I don't feel that's very fair, it's fiction. Of course, design flaws are another thing entirely but it just comes off as misguided when you rate something lower because it's not identical to the real life inspiration. Like the Assault Carbine using 5mm. That's not wrong, it's a design choice on a fantasy gun. ...The forward assist going back on a reload though is a legit flaw, or handle on a bolt interfering with a modeled dust cover.
Yup. Like on a spectrum of "Fair criticism" and "CinemaSins disingenuous", BrandyBoy's criticism sits in the middle with one degree off to the latter when it comes to the guns in Fallout. Even in Fallout 4, as much as I hate that game, he levels some pretty unfair criticism for guns being "not 1:1 exact copies of the real version."
11:34 The Bozar seems to be based on the L86, and is cursed for un-bullpup-ing it. The barrel and brake were plainly derived from the Barrett as you mentioned but the furniture and overall shape is of the british infantry service rifle everyone loves with a few dead giveaways for those familiar with the latter. One of those "creative" pieces.
Obsidian Entrainment had 18 months to make this game, and they had to use a lot of assets from Fallout 3 to get this game finished, so compromises had to be made to many things like the guns so cut them some slack because building an entire new game from scratch is a lot more difficult than you might think

The M1887 also has a 10 gauge variant. No 20G though
Yes there are some custom AR-15s with side charging handles, but those are the exception, not the rule.
(I'm just going off what some people said in the comments for this one)

The reason the lmg is so weird is in part because there’s a hard limitation in the base game for the amount of animations you could put in. It was such a problem that a mod that was able to fix it was revolutionary for the nv animation community
@Gyrfalcon312do you have it yet? I hope do
I remember being really annoyed with that a long time back.
My headcanon is they went through and ripped all the plastic off them during the war with China, then the Gun Runners made the wood stocks for them
A lot of the animation weirdness comes from the limited number of animations available due to engine limitations.
Actually it re-uses the animations of Lincoln's Repeater / lever action rifle from F3
the BB Gun has different unique animations

I think 5 mm is something akin 5,8x28 mm round due to its damage and innate AP properties.
Sterling was like... You know what. Fuck it
357s ur bb gun 😂
What's it called?
@@wallythewondercorncake8657 Wheels of Fire.
The Assault Carbine being in 5mm makes it much better than if it were in 5.56. 5mm AP rounds ignore 25 DT. So...a "pea shooter" that ignores almost all of the armor in the game.
I play new vegas before even being aware of the fallout series, I just pick it randomly and what made me do it was the anti-material rifle.
I can't stand when people tell me my Survivalists Rifle is "wrong" because it's not side charging.
I literally do not care, I'm not cutting up a C7 upper because some modeler didn't look closely enough at the IRL thing or they ran out of time to do another reload animation.
As a Filipino, I can confirm we literally do not exist in the Fallout franchise
I think the reason why the casings are so huge is so that they could be seen easier on the lower resolution everyone had back in the day. Just a thought
Love brandyboy's gun reviews
Brandyboy the AR Guy vs Brandon Herrera the AK Guy.. Fight!
Brandon would lay him out, he actually knows something about guns and isn't just grifting off cod and google for his "knowledge"
@@Pigness7yeah, the guy completely ignores very widely known facts about the guns in NV, and is completely inconsistent with how he rates them; half the time it’s how much he likes the gun lmao.
Honestly these reviews are cinemasins levels of bad
18:54 missed the chance to “one fatal slip”, good vid tho
The marksman carbine was actually supposed to have the integrated reflex sight which is why the plastic tumor is just left there
Maybe the wastelanders broke all the reflex sights and just put a cap over it.
garand thumb probably was never an issue in actual combat but when the rifle is empty it can be an issue because most people just put the clip back in it which is where you actually get garand thumb because there arent any bullets to stop it it will just kinda slam forward but in normal operation you would only get garand thumb with a heavily used and worn m1 garand. when you load the m1 the bullets stop it from slamming forward under its own power you have to bump the charging handle to get it to go into battery
With a very light round (something like a 40 grain 5mm projectile) and speeds like the g11 round you would get a very flat shooting , low recoil round with significant armor penetration potential and a kinetic energy somewhere between .30 carbine and 5,56
@@Jack72607 my bad I didn't read the carbine bit and thought you were referring to 7.62x51.
I missed watching this channel 😭 i stopped watching right when my mom died and I stopped playing games altogether. Used to stay up watching your streams and chatting until the stream ends. woah your channel grew so much! congrats my boy!

Love these videos. Would you make a video about body armor in Fallout?

You're a really underrated channel I like your style. Keep on
I get that it’s wrong but this game was made back when people didn’t know how guns worked unless they owned guns.
The Anti material rifle should get 4.5 bottlecaps because theres obviously a pistol or rifle grip for the player to hold but the animation shows the player holding that 600 ton weapon being held like the m1 garand
That’s because it uses the hunting rifle reload. 18 months is helluva hard time limit to develop a game.
I see it like this:
Before the global crude oil shortage affected the US, polymer firearms were still being manufactured and prevalent in the military and the civilian market.
Holds up finger.

Hey man just so you know youtube "accidentally" isn't sending me notifications when you upload
yeah if you ignore some notification from a channel, the algorithm determine that you wont like "those" notification anymore, and skip those
Considering the fact the game was made in 18 months it’s not surprising there’s tons of technical inaccuracies.
It looks like the lever action shotgun has a bayonet lug on the end of it.
Bozar was supposed to be a sniper back in fo2 I belive but the accidentally made it full auto,so if it looks wierd for a lmg, that's why
Great content and great art in story telling. Glad I found the channel.
The service rifle is indeed based
The main reason for the weapon and animation errors is that Fallout NV was made in the old times where the entire game had to fit on a single double sided DVD or less than 5GB. So choosing between altering the guns and clipping animations or cutting content to save invaluable storage space, we know which the developer chose.
😂 that ATF pov 😂
Assault carbine could be using the .19-223 since it it is a necked down .223 to get more speed and flatter trajectory and is 5mm.
It might be the mods you have installed but the all American airborne sticker is normal in my game. It’s on there with and without it equipped.
The muzzle device on the service rifle looks like the ones for rifle grenades, that would be pretty cool as an alternate ammo.
6:05 “…And as far as we know, Filipinos don’t exist in Fallout.”
Meanwhile here I am playing a Fallout game with a Filipino-ethnic character that also makes great use of his 2A rights.
And he rocks the M4 Carbine SOPMOD as his primary and the Glock 19 Pistol as his sidearm.
By the way, his name is Matt Santos which is inspired by the biblical Saint Matthew who is known to have a thick skin personality which is something Matt Santos also has. He’s described having light-brown skin and almond-shaped eyes which is very prominent with Filipinos. Along with an athletic bodybuild which reflects his experience as a former elite soldier. As a citizen of Calivada, he exudes American-like qualities like with the way he speaks.
Edit: Although Matt Santos is the protagonist of the story, the name of the Road Ranger is not mentioned by word until the very end of the story.

Making a character based on yourself is the definition of representation.
0:02 You crippled a baby? You monster!
Yea, he could have atleast eaten it as well instead of wasting everything
The Bozar is so beyond cursed every playthrough I just download the mod that makes it have a real acog instead of the sniper scope
Nah they had the L86 in F2 as the Light Support Weapon alongside the bozar.
Obsidian Entrainment had 18 months to make this game, and they had to use a lot of assets from Fallout 3 to get this game finished, so compromises had to be made to many things like the guns so cut them some slack because building an entire new game from scratch is a lot more difficult than you might think
I wouldn't say the varmint rifle is useless by any means, with the suppressor and night vision scope modifications it turns into the perfect assassination weapon
Yup.
It was my go to sniper rifle until mid game where I switched to a fully customized hunting rifle.
Realistically.
*Its still a 5.56x45mm rifle.* Very effective if you use it correctly.
