    Whoops I committed blasphemy!
Here's some clarifications and corrections bc y'all gonna out nerd me in the comments.
The M1887 also has a 10 gauge variant. No 20G though
Yes there are some custom AR-15s with side charging handles, but those are the exception, not the rule. Plus it's cursed. And No, the service rifle is not based on the .308 AR-10 at all. The shape of the receiver and furniture is completely different. It's very clearly a 5.56 M16 with wood furniture. The AR-10 doesn't have wood furniture btw, it's just brown fiberglass.
Apparently after decades of wear and tear, the M1 Garand's bolt may stop automatically closing during a reload, so perhaps that part checks out after all. (I'm just going off what some people said in the comments for this one)
The bolt on the cowboy repeater clips through the rear sight when cycling the action. Literally unplayable
Your character holds the AMR with a traditional rifle grip, despite it having a pistol grip. Completely missed that detail oof

The reason the lmg is so weird is in part because there’s a hard limitation in the base game for the amount of animations you could put in. It was such a problem that a mod that was able to fix it was revolutionary for the nv animation community

A lot of the animation weirdness comes from the limited number of animations available due to engine limitations. You got La Longue Carabine right - it reuses the reload of the BB Gun, because there was no available reload animation for a toploader that wouldn't have had very obvious clipping with the scope. I imagine there's a similar reason for the Hunting Shotgun's idle animation.

Longer/more frequent bursts mean higher DPT and you can easily dispatch crowds of enemies per 1 turn due to how "spread" on bursts works.
Bozar on the other hand shoots bursts of 15 rounds and requires you to spend Action Points on reloading after 2 bursts. I think it uses cheaper ammo and is somewhat easier to get and feed when it comes to cash.
Gauss weaponry could be good too. Since you can build a character that's capable of firing a Gauss Pistol half a dozen times or so per turn into eyes or groin of your enemy.

What I do like about the lore behind the Survivalists Rifle is the fact it was being used as a checkpoint rifle at the Canadian border. If you know how .50 Beowolf came to be it was meant to be used on a swapable upper for the M4 and M16 for the military to use as a checkpoint rifle. The idea was to use a cartridge that could potentially disable a vehicles engine. There are a bunch of .19 and .20 cartridges around and it's not too crazy to imagine that in that timeline they went with different rounds than 5.56. Or maybe had both, 5.56mm and 5mm in use simultaneously and didn't come around to decide on one.
Now I'm waiting for someone to mod us the FAL in .280 like originally envisioned.

Couple of fun facts for you Brandy.
The Marksman Carbine is actually a Colt 933/Car15 as well just with a Magpul PRS stock, M468 SIR handguard, and Acog.
The Assault Carbine is a Colt model 733.
The Service Rifle is a Colt model 715 due to the forward assist shape and M16A1 brass deflector.

I can definitely appreciate your pedantry about the fine details here, but the larger sized cases being ejected -- I'm pretty sure is just for effect to make them noticable. I mean I suppose they should've scaled up pistol cases for guns like the cowboy repeater instead of using rifle casings, but I'm positive they did it just so you'd notice your cases ejecting 🤷. Overall, I think the devs did a decently believable job with most of the weapons in the game with the absolutely crunched schedule they had

Due to the global shortages of petroleum, the manufacture of polymers would be very limited and much more costly. The polymer-body "tacticool" weapons are canonical and would be used in more specialized roles, so wood and metal bodies for standard-issue firearms in the prewar era also made logical sense.

    • @DJWeapon8
      @DJWeapon8 Рік тому +2

      I see it like this:
Before the global crude oil shortage affected the US, polymer firearms were still being manufactured and prevalent in the military and the civilian market.
Late into the Sino-American War and after the global crude oil shortage affected the US. The US military industrial complex started using non-petroleum based materials for their weapons and changed their doctrine to be less reliant on crude-oil derived products.
Hence the all metal or wood furniture firearms, and general lack of fuel guzzling air support.

I do suspect that Bethesda told Obsidian (the devs for FNV in the case there's that 1% that don't know who developed the game at this point) to cross reference guns as best they could and make what they did manage to get working in game with the assets from Fallout 3, because FNV probably has more guns than Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 does have a few AK like rifles so that could be where the more curved like magazines are coming from for the AR weapons in FNV whenever available, Obsidian likely didn't have the time/budget maybe even both given Bethesda's track record of releasing buggy releases to make the guns look and feel more authentic to their RL counterparts.

The main reason for the weapon and animation errors is that Fallout NV was made in the old times where the entire game had to fit on a single double sided DVD or less than 5GB. So choosing between altering the guns and clipping animations or cutting content to save invaluable storage space, we know which the developer chose.

6:05 “…And as far as we know, Filipinos don’t exist in Fallout.”
Meanwhile here I am playing a Fallout game with a Filipino-ethnic character that also makes great use of his 2A rights. This isn’t only because of representation sake by the way because I happen to be Filipino myself. But it’s also because I’m writing a book that has this protagonist which I’ve created him through Fallout 4’s character creation along with the wonderful mods that we have access to.
The book is called “The Road Ranger” and it’s about a young former Army Ranger veteran who wants to reconnect with his parents after serving/fighting for six years as a conscript. Although things were going well in the beginning, things slowly take an ugly turn after his mother and stepfather are going through a bad patch and weeks later, his mom is shot dead by a sniper which is the catalyst of the story’s main events. He tries to let the police do their job but after his lady friend, *hint hint wink wink* an FBI agent Maria Garcia, tells him they decided to not go through the investigation despite her best efforts on his behalf, Matt decides to take matters into his own hands by looking for the murderer himself and kill anyone who gets in the way.
The story is inspired by The Punisher but also carries heavy inspirations from Fallout. Mainly being the world the characters live in like their hometown of Calivada which is California and Nevada as one country after an apocalyptic event, and his sleek black full-body armor which is described to be a full set of tactical gear but his helmet strongly resembles the NCR Veteran Ranger helmet. And he rocks the M4 Carbine SOPMOD as his primary and the Glock 19 Pistol as his sidearm.
By the way, his name is Matt Santos which is inspired by the biblical Saint Matthew who is known to have a thick skin personality which is something Matt Santos also has. He’s described having light-brown skin and almond-shaped eyes which is very prominent with Filipinos. Along with an athletic bodybuild which reflects his experience as a former elite soldier. As a citizen of Calivada, he exudes American-like qualities like with the way he speaks.
Edit: Although Matt Santos is the protagonist of the story, the name of the Road Ranger is not mentioned by word until the very end of the story.

I kinda get the feeling you label a gun as "wrong" because it isn't accurate to real life, I don't feel that's very fair, it's fiction. Of course, design flaws are another thing entirely but it just comes off as misguided when you rate something lower because it's not identical to the real life inspiration. Like the Assault Carbine using 5mm. That's not wrong, it's a design choice on a fantasy gun. ...The forward assist going back on a reload though is a legit flaw, or handle on a bolt interfering with a modeled dust cover.

Like on a spectrum of "Fair criticism" and "CinemaSins disingenuous", BrandyBoy's criticism sits in the middle with one degree off to the latter when it comes to the guns in Fallout.
Even in Fallout 4, as much as I hate that game, he levels some pretty unfair criticism for guns being "not 1:1 exact copies of the real version."

11:34 The Bozar seems to be based on the L86, and is cursed for un-bullpup-ing it. The barrel and brake were plainly derived from the Barrett as you mentioned but the furniture and overall shape is of the british infantry service rifle everyone loves with a few dead giveaways for those familiar with the latter. One of those "creative" pieces.

Obsidian Entrainment had 18 months to make this game, and they had to use a lot of assets from Fallout 3 to get this game finished, so compromises had to be made to many things like the guns so cut them some slack because building an entire new game from scratch is a lot more difficult than you might think
