Excellent video for troubleshooting a ficus plant! I’ve seen a lot of these types of videos and your video is hands down the best and most informative one I have ever seen. My Ficus has experienced almost all of these issues these last five months. For two years she grew healthy, fast and strong. At Christmas I moved her so I could place a Christmas in her window. It took her a few months to drop leaves but she did. Thankfully she was loaded down with leaves. Your tips and suggestions give me new hope. Thank you so much!! 👏👌🪴🥰
New plant and i repotted it. the bottom row of leaves were touching the soil. They all turned yellow on the bottom row. The rest of plant is beautiful. West facing window not near AC vent. Should i take those off ...will it spread? ..
Hi Lauran, It might be just being temperamental because of the environmental changes. Ficus Lyrata takes time to adapt to new household conditions and will drop leaves, luckily it's the older bottom leaves and not the new leaves at the top. Generally it's better to leave the plant in its pot for 4-6 weeks repotting as repotting the plant to give m9re time to adjust. I would leave the leaves alone as the plant be withdrawing nutrients from the leaves and using it in other areas of the plant. The leaves will drop off on its own accord when the plant has no use for it. If the plant is still adjusting to the new household condition then yes there is still possibility more leaves can turn yellow. If this occurs l would move the Ficus Lyrata to position where it can receive the maximum amount of sunlight possible as this us a sunloving plant. Hope that helps you and congrats on your New Beauty! Happy Ficus Lyrata Gardening ❤️
Thank you so much. I am trying really hard to take care of my plant. The leaves looks a little leathery - I have been very careful to not put in too much water - but now I am wondering if I am underwatering?
Hi Tina, It could look leathery if the leaves are old or if it's not receiving enough water or it's completely root bound ( roots are circulating in the pot). Check the roots. I would suggest just check the soil is dry and thoroughly water it making sure the excess water drains away. Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Excellent video, but I think at about 5 minutes you might have mistakenly given an incorrect low temperature in farienheit. It stated 10-85 degrees F and then 10-35 degrees C.
I think I overwatered and all the leaves on Lower half have fallen. It is 10 feet tall but leaves mostly on top. What should I do how can I encourage leaf growth lower
Hi Lindsay, Great question! There is two ways can encourage branching that l use. The first is to cut the top off to force the plant to active nodes on the bottom cut to grow leaves. However it means you will have a shorter plant. The second is to notch the plant. To do this need to score/ cut slit into the main stem to create words on the stem to try and active nodes further down the stem. Thanks for watching and your support! Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Hi Fran, Sounds like there is some sort of fungus in the soil or spores from a mushroom. As long as the roots are not rotting or you don't like the look of the soil ll would skip the repotting. Move the plant to area with more light and make sure the soil is completely dry before rewatering. Thanks for watching and your comment. Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Hi Fran, Thanks for the question and watching the content. It's probably some fungus in the soil or spores from mushrooms growing in the soil. Usually occur when soil is too moist or stays too moist for too long. As long as the roots are not rotting or you don't like the look of the soil, I would skip the repotting. I would move the ficus to area with more light. Make sure the soil is completely dry before watering. When you do water your Ficus only water to make soil moist and not soggy. Happy Ficus Gardening
Hi Lindsay, Good question! I let my soil dry then water my ficus. I have found for my ficus they need watering once a week in summer and every 2 weeks in general in winter. I can also tell if my ficus needs watering by the look of the leaves. The household, environment , plant size, pot type and soil mixture and light condition effects how often a ficus needs to be watered. Thus your ficus watering timing can be very different to mine. I would suggest to check the moisture level in the soil before watering rather then sticking to a watering schedule. Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Hi Sasslys, Unfortunately once a leaf is damaged it's permanent and can not be fixed. These tips are is to help avoid damage to the healthy remaining leaves. Thanks for your great question. Happy Fiddle leaf Fig Gardening ❤️
Hi, Thanks for the Interesting question and watching the contebt. I would say oily is fine. lf it's sticky substance then there is pest issue happening. You can aways wipe the leaves just in case if it's a issue. Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Hi Patricia, Oh no sorry to hear your ficus isn't doing well. I would curt off the dry and dead steams. Check the roots for any root rot and place in area with more sunlight and more warmth. If there is root rot then will need to cut through rotted roots away and report. If looks good then check the moisture in the soil. If dry then thoroughly water your Ficus and add a half concentrated dose of fertiliser. Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️
Hi Phoenix, Thanks for watching the video and the comment. If the heavy watering occured only a few times the fig can still survive it. Otherwise can use paper towel to draw some of the water from the top soil out 🤞❤️
