WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE... SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY FEBRUARY HALF TERM 2020

- I have been visiting the River Severn for sixty years but never have I seen it as high as this. I blame Brexit!! The locomotives in action on Wednesday 19th February were Standard 4 no. 75069 and Ivatt 4 no. 43106. A dry morning was followed by a wet afternoon but fortunately we had a respite from the strong winds of Storm Dennis. I have shown a few scenes of angry Sabrina!
must admit i really enjoyed myself that week from the mpd and when out on the line! it was odd to see the river so close to the line!
Excellent video as always, so much water
Thanks Mike, most kind. Alan
Many thanks for this, Alan. The shots of the Severn are evocative to say the least, but there is always an element of distress attached to seeing flooded fields (I'm not trying to shoot the messenger!) and this is an important part of the general perspective. That said, it's heart warming to see that the line appears unaffected and you've treated us to steam action in a generous variety of locations - that's a cracking one at 07:00. The initial Bridgnorth departure was really atmospheric. Kind regards, Bob.
My pleasure Bob, especially as I hadn't been out for three weeks! As far as I know the line's unscathed although I'll know more after tomorrow as I plan to film the floods from the cushions. The stretch of track at Waterworks, 07.00, has been de-restricted after relaying so they are getting into a bit of a gallop. Best regards Alan
Very nice video and certainly atmospheric. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, my pleasure.
Lovely work there at Severn valley!👍👍
Thank you David.
What a beautiful piece of filming.
Thank you Charlotte for your kind comment. Alan
Very nice video Alan.
I hope you managed to keep reasonably dry. At least the line is above water level!
Noel
Thanks Noel. Tomorrow I hope to film the floods from the cushions! Regards Alan
Nice video
Hi Alan. Lovely video, thanks. It took me a while to recognise the vantage point at 8:20! I wonder why the driver of 43106 left the cylinder cocks open so long in the start from Bridgnorth, as it hid the loco from view very effectively. We saw plenty of trains today but there were just four of us there. See you soon!
Thanks Phil, my pleasure. I have watched many early departures from Bridgnorth and knowing that 75069 would create a good white background for the titles I positioned myself accordingly. I plan to film the floods from the train today...watch this space! Regards Alan

Lovely video, thumbs up :)
Thank you Simon.
Great video
Thank you.
Very creative title shot Alan but that was no ex BR Driver I'm sure!! Thought it might have been stuck open at first but it eventually was closed. The lambs were a nice touch at the end too!! Regards, Brian.
Thank you Brian. Knowing that open draincocks are de rigueur
on early morning winter trains I positioned myself accordingly, in view of the theme of the video, to catch the clouds of water vapour. Regards Alan
That looks bad, flooding wise. I'd rather see angry Sabrina than Angry Greta though - at least Sabrina will calm down and return to normal eventually. Definitely liked the lambs - we were walking up beyond Bridgnorth on Saturday, saw loads of sheep but no lambs yet. Good line side shots - recognised all the locations!
Thank you John. I went down on Friday to film from the train but happily, for the locals, the level had fallen six feet. Alan
Nicely filmed Alan , Not only water but steam everywhere ! The climate change boffins seem to be right sorry to say and i feel for the people affected by it here and abroad Best wishes Graham
Thanks Graham. TV pictures from all over the world are hearty breaking. Kind regards Alan
Was it water everywhere because of the swamped land and the rain
Something like that plus the clouds of water vapour at the beginning!
Luckily it hasn’t took an impact on the railway
True!
100 percent true
Your not wrong the weather over the past week has been terrible
When the super rich don't want to pay new European taxes, water fights back
