Glowworms in Motion - A Time-lapse of NZ's Glowworm Caves in 4K

- A Time-lapse of New Zealand’s Glowworm caves as they have never been seen before. Filming this involved sleeping in caves for multiple days in complete darkness with just the sounds of the cave to keep us company (and the occasional eel). Read the full story of how we pulled this off on our blog: bit.ly/GlowwormTimeLapse
UPDATE: This video won New Zealand Geographic's 2015 Photographer of the Year award in the Time-lapse category
About the Series:
Living a Kiwi Life is about a Canadian couple (me and Jenna) who have lived in Canada all our lives and made the decision to move to New Zealand having never gone there before. We quit our jobs, sold our houses and cars and left everything we knew to explore an unknown.

Fantastic! Never thought something like this exists on Earth.Thank you for spotting wonders of the nature.
I imagine it's a hundred times worse running into glow worm slime than a spiderweb.
How bright are they in reality? I'm sure these videos are using special effects.
@@SylkaChan c expliqué : l'ISO dans la vidéo variait de 3200 à 6400 et l'obturateur sur les séquences accélérées était de 30 secondes.
I still come back here once in a while. Everybody needs a little glowworms in their life.
Just amazing, great footage, seamless editing, and great music to accompany. Thanks for sharing your story - I wouldn't know how difficult the filming could be!
Amazing work and perfect choice of soundtrack! Glowworm caves were the main reason why my husband and I stopped at Auckland on our way to Queenstown.
This is magical. Exquisitely beautiful.
How wonderful is Nature, and perfect music to accompany. Very humbling.
This channel is truly a hidden gem.
Thanks +Stache_Zilla :)

+Minimeister317 thanks for the kind words
I'm 35. Once, I did my own thinking independently of the past and thought of how I already looked ahaed at the future as a property of the past. Knowing that even later, I would see the same about now. So I stopped anticipating the future and was like "This is the environment now" and adapt to the one that's here now. My awareness of the next one is very nil but I know that just becaue it's as though it doesn't exist doen't mean it's truly never coming and when it does come, I will adapt to that one from scratch and look back at how I didn't even think the current one existed and already did what I wanted to do at the time. I don't care to bother with it. Some people when they're old enough, their brain adapts to think that way. Some of you young people have to work to create a future with it way of thinking and can't take it for granted. You might be making plans. You might not get around to it and then lose interest but feel like you already did what you wanted to do discovering the answer for yourself. To pull off long focused 10 day plans of getting jobs done such as organizing things, you have to have seeds in the process of preparing a plan on how to do later parts and start working on adjusting your mind far enough ahead or something like that. They are just seeds and are not meant to be used in their current form and are meant to undergo improvisation along the way.
+Emma Bedard, I can’t reply to your comment directly because of your account settings. Thanks for the comments on our videos. As for getting around NZ the absolute best way is to have your own vehicle, campervans are ideal as there are lots of places to park in NZ. We’ve got some stuff about the best way to get around and some the various companies on our blog. A cheaper option is to get on and off the various buses that travel the more popular tourist tracks. I would recommend Rere Rockslide as the coolest attraction in all of NZ but it is out the way. Other seriously cool options are Sandboarding, Tongariro Crossing or Taranaki and Shotover Canyon Swing.
hi
I live in Hamilton NZ and love watching your videos! I have done quite a few of the activities you have and it's amazing to relive them. Thanks :)
Mike Webb Awesome, are there any cool things near Hamilton you recommend. We haven't spent much time there.

visiting the glowworm caves in new zealand last year was stunning, and you captured its beauty flawlessly.
:)
This is the most fantastic video! I LOVE IT!!!!! We lived in New Zealand for a year and missed the caves, but we want to go back to explore! This video gave me a feel for what we will see in the future! BEAUTIFUL and captivating!
AnubisFilms As we've also found out even a year in NZ isn't enough. There is too much to see an do. It must be why Immigration NZ just extended their working holiday visa to 2 years instead of 1!
Excellent!
inspire, learn & love every day in a positive way.
This is gorgeous. Thanks for this video. The song is beautiful as well.
the beauty of nature is just AMAZING!
So beautifully filmed!! Thank you 😍
This is INSANE! You really do take people out of reality in your videos. They are just so good. Yas
Thanks, this one was definitely a special one, and a lot more work than our normal videos.
Truly exquisite piece of art!
Just visiting here after seeing your clip in DDoI's video...thank you for sharing this with us! Im happy to have found your content :)
glad you found us!
Okay, this was one of the coolest videos I've seen. Was in Waitomo Caves a couple of months ago and saw glow worms, but to see them like this is amazing! Hugely impressed as it must have been such hard work to pull it off. A big "like" from Sweden:)
Thanks for the great feedback Johan Strömer. It was a lot of hard work especially once we made the decision to make a full video instead of just taking a clip or two and putting it in a compilation video but it was a great challenge.
The first form of media (photo or vid) that has correctly captured my awe at the glowing behinds of larvae down here. Thank you!
Thanks Sommer Kapitan, we were really trying to show them as close to the in-person experience as possible so I'm glad you feel we nailed it :)
IM CRYING THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL~
Thanks, very beautiful, and nicely scored too!
You guys are phenomenal! It took so much to capture this. Hands down the best video of glow worms~ amazing!
Thanks, it was a bit of a mission!

My mother passed away a few days ago, I have just been reading in a notebook she kept, she had a holiday of a lifetime in NZ (she is from Gloucestershire UK), and mentioned her visit to Waitomo glow worm caves in 1974, the video is just how she describes it, thankyou so much for uploading this video. RIP Mum. xxx
So happy this video helped bring to life one of your mom's memories. Sorry for your loss.
These are so fascinating! Definitely something on my to visit and capture list!

Absolutely beautiful guys, thanks so much for sharing. Still loving all your vids. Between the awesome quality of your filming and the wonderful music you always seem to pick you somehow always manage to convey the love I have for the place. Hopefully back next year to introduce the land I adore to my kids for the first time. Will show them this tom, lol they'll love it. Safe travels my friends!
thanks so much! I hope your kids love the vid too!
Awesome guys - love it
so magical
Reminds me of alien caves I discovered in a game called Skyrim. There were these glowing mushrooms that could be used for potion brewing in alchemy.
Crazy reference!
Terraria too
Ruben DeyenbergOMG, yes, me too, with the vampires and the shrines, i have to re-play the game now
Exactly what I thought. Skyrim ftw
my mom wont let me play skyrim bec it is too violent
Honestly this is magical
indeed, never seen before. this is amazing work! Read your blog and the determination to get this done is truly inspiring.
Thanks *****, after taking the first clips we searched for glowworms time-lapses online to see what was out there and there were only a few short clips and not with the type of big movements we incorporated. I guess no one has ever had the patience to try and take enough of them to make a full video. It was a great challenge.
***** Like Devinsupertramp said, its all about the shot (: I'm appreciating every frame now its really all worth your effort and patience!
Breathtaking
This is amazing, I didn't get to see the glowworm caves in NZ. Thanks for sharing this video!
You are welcome.
Wow beautiful !!!
Amazing...
THIS IS INCREDIBLE
incredible, loved the video.
I once harvested something that looks similar to these. If I remember correctly, they were glowing mushrooms and were meant for alchemy I never bothered to learn..
Eerily beautiful.

I was here as a child (maybe 8 years old). I'm 52 now and still remember it vividly. When people ask me where to go / what to see in NZ I always recommend Waitomo. It's not something you see every day. We did the whole Cape Reinga to Stewart Island thing one year (my family lived there when I was a kid). I have relatives all over NZ but I haven't been back since 1973. This place is the one that had the greatest impact.
One thing: when I was a kid and all this time, I've heard it pronounced (at the caves) like Why Toe Moe, but a couple of places I've heard Wait imo. Can you list the proper MAORI pronunciation? My dad (a kiwi) always said Why-toe-moe.
Glad you liked the video and it brought back memories. This wasn't actually filmed in Waitomo, it was filmed in Northland and Martinborough. We have a second video called "Waitomo's Lights" on our channel that was filmed in Waitomo.
Gorgeous work. ❤
Outstanding
Wow. Incredible.
THIS IS SO COOL IT LOOKS MAGICAL
Went there last month, they give you a tour of the cave system and then a boat ride under the worms. Highly recommend it!
