I would take the sofa bed out of the office considering you have spare rooms, and then face the desks towards each other so that you have an office side, and then put a round table and chairs opposite the kitchen for a more chill lunch / meeting side. That way the monitor isn’t blocking the window either.
I'd do the same! If you wanted a sitting area, the sofa could be replaced with some smaller vintage armchairs with a small "side table" between them to rest a cup of tea on :D
I know it should be common sense but it makes me really happy that regardless of your preference for minimalism and aesthetic you still let Alex have his fun little bits and encourage him to display it as well :)
@@lizintas8396 Well i feel like there are some people who wil definitely go over their partner‘s interest when it comes to decor and interior design hence the „letting“. I don‘t know a better wording, english isnt my first language, sorry!
If there is room, I would definitely make the desks facing each other in front of the window! I bet you would get so much natural light. PS I love your new home , so amazing.
You really have found the perfect house. The setting, the space, the character...wow. I hope you take time each day to enjoy it as it is. It’s so tempting to get caught up in how it “will be” one day that you could forget how lovely it is right now. 💜
I’ve followed you since just before you moved to Brighton, and I am particularly loving the quality of your videos of late, including this one. Beautiful. Content is always great, but you and Alex are really stepping up your game! Thank you for all your hard work to BRING IT.
Having a fully separate office is a great idea, it looks nice already and I can't wait to see how you decorate it :) One thing I noticed is you talked about how the blinds got mouldy, seems like condensation is a bit of a problem. It might help to get a dehumidifier for the room, but until then I'd probably take the books off the windowsill since you'd be likely to have condensation there too, esp. with how humid it has been recently!
I would find a desk the size of the long wall, put a computer on each side of the window, and leave the light side of the table for organization. I feel like the computer takes a lot of light out of the room!
When you served your dinner and I said "That looks so good!" at the same time as you! I love it when I see familiar places in Cornwall in your vlogs :)
It’s great that you guys have that extra space and that it has the decking. I would honestly keep that unit separate in case you guys ever decide to have renters or have someone you know who might need to rent the space from you. Always something I think of now that we are living in these interesting times. ☺️
I always watch your videos when I need to take off that daily stress. Love watching your life so much and what a lovely home you guys got, so happy for you! Started watching you for your hair videos ended up watching everything else :))
That's so nice to have the office separate from the rest of the house! If you're looking to try different furniture constellations, have you thought about setting the desks up so that you and Alex sit across from each other with just one of the short ends touching the wall? It would jut out into the room a bit more, but it would free up a lot of wall space for a storage closet or shelves 😊
Dear Madeleine, I would gladly come and stay in your dinky chalet any time you need a holiday away, house/pet sitting my speciality - no charge....Just DREAMING ! You must give your little annex a name over its door. So cute, so practical. 💖
You may be able to get a multi zone air-source heat pump (mini split) for heating and cooling needs. It doesn’t require ducting and mounts on the wall.
If the sofa fits I'd move it to the far wall, pop some decor selves above. Then you can use the kitchen side wall either for the other desk or tall storage (bookshelves, filing cabinet etc) it would breakup up the low linear/corrider effect a bit. Because the taller furniture will block light put it at the back section of the room. I'd maybe consider trying turning your desks horizontally across the room too. And probably a larger rug.
Excellent video Madeleine the Secret room which isn't so secret anymore was good to see. It is great to have a separate working area. Looking forward to the garden tour.
Those portable Induction hobs are fantastic. I wished I had bought a double as I use mine quite a lot cooking outside (We live in Australia so can do that for quite a few months a year). I like it because if I am using it indoors in addition to the one in the kitchen it does not make the room hot.
I would love to have an office separate from my house. Even if its just out in the garden, I'm finding it hard to be motivated to "go" to work when its just in the the spare bedroom. I have been trying to take walks as my morning commute and that helps, but not as much as if I was physically going to a different location. Happy to see how things are going with the house!
The office looks like an old bachelor's apartment which will be good in time if you guys won't know what to do with is.let it outdoor rent and use the extra income to do more renovations
you uploaded this just as I got some lunch, couldn't have asked for better timing!!! I absolutely love your videos, they always chill me out when I'm having a stressful day :))
Yay! An office separate from my living space has been a UA-camr dream of mine for a long time. Helps so much with putting the work aside at night! Plus, yours has a kitchen. Ideal. Lovely space!
Madeleine could you please tell me the name of that lovely piece of piano music you are using in this video? It sounds so great and peaceful! Edit: I found it, it's Transform by Megan Wofford (in case anyone else wants to know)
I think that it's a great idea to have that space as an office, It's at home but not in the house so you don't feel that pressure as when you have the office next to the bedroom for example. Love it!
I love our induction cooktop, but I feel like it vibrates my heart when it’s on and I’m standing near it. Also, I know people that worked on integrating heat pumps into historic houses, but they worked in the USA. I’m sure there are specialists in the UK that can integrate the newer systems well without so many ugly tubes and be sensitive to the building’s age.
Hi! I just found your channel, and I just want to say keep up the good work! I am enjoying your videos very much, and more blessings to you and your family ❣️
Great vlog as always. Maybe you could turn the space into income property or holiday lets since you are in a beautiful part of the UK near the ocean. Guaranteed income! And use one of the rooms in the main house as your office. But a wonderful space.
So lovely to hear a home reno chat about heat pumps - I'm also looking into an air source heat pump (for a Victorian house). You likely already know this, but heat pumps can be fitted in EPC D homes or higher -- it's just a matter of having it sized correctly. As preparation, it's really worth ensuring your home is as insulated as possible, has appropriate pipework (not the really skinny type), and that you've room for larger radiators! And the heat pump should be spec'd out with some consideration of any future extension you might have, just to be sure you'll be covered.
The fridge even seems to be the same colour as the desk chairs and the sofa. Lovely!! You look relieved and really enjoying this time, you seem to glow...any other thing we don't know yet? Thank you for sharing. Stay safe!!!
suggestion...move the desks across from sink area and make them face to face then the living area could better arranged as chilling area ,or proper bed..have also since the ikea kitchen cabinets the boxy ones with no outside hardware...attached to butt up to the ceiling over your desks to the right of the window....loked great and great storage that disappears near the ceiling...and ikea picture rails for hid doodads
BTW nothing wrong with using a ready made curry paste at all Most home cooks in South East Asia do, these days. No different from using reconstituted or tinned coconut milk. Not many have time to head to the wet market every morning to purchase supplies, or make complicated curry pastes from scratch. Love the office space. It looks like it was meant to be a guest cottage. It took me the longest time to figure out what you were talking about when you said "hob". I'm in the US and had never heard that before. Looking forward to your next video.
I haven’t read the comments so maybe this has been said about the floor plan already, but I would: - take those two desks, have them rotate 90 degrees so they face each other and then push the sides of them up against the window. (So both desks get a little window action, also uses less wall space) - then I would use the current couch-wall for storage cabinets, then put the couch on the diagonal in the opposite side of the room (next to that back door/closet door?) Then I would put bookshelves over it as a little reading/decorative nook. Anyway, that’s just what flooded my mind when I watched your tour, hope you don’t mind me dumping my opinion on it in the comments. 😊 (of course considering all I’ve written I’m not sure where a third desk would go? Maybe it will still fit in that corner with the bean bag?) Also, love your new home, its beautiful! it’s so fun watching these videos, thanks for sharing!
Maybe it would be a good idea to encourage him to use better storage systems? If the stuff is ever used the cables are necessary, so to avoid frustration putting them away properly will help!
Dogs need good meat to be healthy, there are companies that provide ready made/packed raw or cooked meals for them so you don’t have to deal with the meat 😃 if you’re vegetarian.
Omg that's amazing. I was one of the ones wondering where you would work from. But I totally see that this was the point that sold you with the house. Omg this makes me so happy as if it was my place haha
I’ll be really interested to find out how you go about making your boiler more environmentally friendly, I live in quite an old house and we have an old oil powered boiler that we’d really like to replace with a more eco friendly alternative.
I had a feeling there was gonna be a separate building for your office when I saw you guys had 3 extra rooms and none of them were one 😂 I just didn’t know what it’d look like or what it’d be exactly!
Ground source heating is a good idea, but it cost to much to install, it can cost between £14,000 to £19,000 to install, plus electric cost to run it, plus £8,000 to dig up your garden, or £20,000 for a bore hole, it s was way to expensive for us. Sorry for all the information but I remember when we wanted the system for our last house, the house is looking lovely 🙂
Ik would place the computers on their desks to the sides and put a larger tablet on desk hight between and in the room. Maybe a table that you can make bigger. So that the table would be a perfect place to have a lunch buy also to package or unpack. Like a corner desk. And.. you can have a meeting with a few other people. Or have an extra desk for a collaege.
We have an air source heat pump and I would not recommend it. Our house isn't old, it's a 70s build with cavity walls and double glazing, but it just isn't insulated enough for it to work efficiently. It costs us a fortune in electricity. They sold it (to the previous owners) by saying it would save up to 2/3 in electricity but we're paying way more now in a small 2 bed house than we were to heat a giant 9 roomed Victorian house with rickety old windows that had 1cm gaps between the panes! It also doesn't work when it's really cold outside, we can't get the house above 13c on snowy and windy winter days. From the research I've done they can work well in super insulated brand new houses but if you don't have that, they're pretty useless. My gran swapped from oil to a wood pellet system in her very old stone farm house, it's not great for her (she can't move 25kg bags of pellets to fill it and the controls are all outside so when it shuts off, which it does all the time, she has to go out in all weather to try and get it back on) but it might be worth looking into as those might not be an issue for younger/able bodied people.
Also, you need loads of, or very large, radiators, way more than gas. Our sitting room is not much bigger than yours and has two walls of 2m radiators. Which means we have a right struggle with furniture. If it wasn't for feeling massive guilt for the environmental aspect I'd have it removed and put gas in. It has no redeeming features 🤣
All these people working from home and who don’t have proper office chairs/desk set ups, really concern me. No non-home working company would get away with not supplying fully adjustable, office chairs to work from as, from an MSK perspective, it’s storing up future problems (and we’ve just been asked if all the home-working people [particularly if it is going to become a more regular thing] in our Teams, have had the required full workstation assessments and been supplied with any relevant/necessary kit - potential of thousands in compensation otherwise) Not sure if it’s just not thought about - as it’s a personal choice if working for yourself - or fully adjustable is dismissed as not necessary, until people start actually having problems.
Think I may know what Charlie means. Lots of people still working from home due to pandemic and not having suitable area. Long hours spent sitting on sofa with laptop. Some companies are supplying workers with small desk and office chair due to Long term health implications. .. think thats what was meant.. maybe
Not sure why you are saying (rant) this here on this video?? She has chosen those chairs for her and Alex , so it’s their choice. Also lovely space to work in for anyone I would have thought . Are you are a sales person for office chairs??
Omg...think I somehow got caught up in something, I was just seeing from a different view point. Did not intend to offend anyone. I have been watching here for a long time. Sorry Maddie I'm out. Wish you and Alex all the best
I wondered where the office was too 😊 such a beautiful home, so happy for you, Alex and Roxie. Thanks for another great vlog 🥰 also, love the way you do your eye makeup, it's so pretty 🙂
I changed my dog diet (no chicken, beef, turkey, lamn) she only eats fish- she had bad allergies to everything else and it stopped the gland issue we had...so smelly!
I was wondering that as well :D Sorry, if this has been asked loads before, ut where did you find your house? I.e. which websites did you use, if any? What did you search for in particular, like what filters/ terms? :) And not to be a know-it-all or something, but from what I know, those harnesses like roxy is wearing can be really bad for their joints and skeletal system, bc they can't move their forelegs as they would normally. Just something to maybe consider or talk to a professional about :)
SURPRISE! Hope you like our extra space in the house! For the full tour watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZW4qiiNjxr4/v-deo.html
I love it. It is great.

Top tip: get the aga done in the summer! Heating and boiler companies are really quiet in the summer, always the best time to get it done.
Great tip!
Yes! I work at a water heater company! Water heaters work harder in the cold and tend to break then! Get it done in the summer! 😄
So *that's* where the missing office is!
Super useful to have a self-contained space - it can be an office, guest quarters, or even an AirBnB.
If there is room, I would definitely make the desks facing each other in front of the window! I bet you would get so much natural light. PS I love your new home , so amazing.
I wanted to say the same! When you have the space for it, this type of setup is really the best.

I would totally keep this as a separate area.
That answers my question about not seeing an office on the tour.
What a great room! Such a bonus having the kitchenette and bathroom already there. Great floors too. A dehumidifier to prevent moisture/mold?
Can't wait for the garden tour, I'd struggle to get any work done with that beautiful view!
Having a fully separate office is a great idea, it looks nice already and I can't wait to see how you decorate it :)

Oh wow....I thought maybe a summer house, this is amazing and looks as big as a studio apartment. Its really lovely
It's perfect for an office, but it would be perfect for an Airbnb! 💖🌞🌵😷
This office's kitchenette is a lot bigger than my actual kitchen in my flat. Gotta love Paris.

What a great space for a big office. Glad Roxie is doing well. She's so cute.

In a Georgian house, what is so elegant are shutters and simple stores on your windows.

Hi! I just found your channel, and I just want to say keep up the good work! I am enjoying your videos very much, and more blessings to you and your family ❣️
Love the separate office space! We viewed a house like that but we were put off by the idea of paying two lots of council tax!

That separate office is so nice!!! I wish I had something like that. Currently my office is shared with a mudroom and utility stuff lol
I think a separate office is amazing especially to keep work and private life separated! It looks great!
The fridge even seems to be the same colour as the desk chairs and the sofa. Lovely!! You look relieved and really enjoying this time, you seem to glow...any other thing we don't know yet? Thank you for sharing. Stay safe!!!

BTW nothing wrong with using a ready made curry paste at all
Most home cooks in South East Asia do, these days.
No different from using reconstituted or tinned coconut milk.
Not many have time to head to the wet market every morning to purchase supplies, or make complicated curry pastes from scratch.
If you wanted a slightly more authentic take on rendang, I would suggest adding firm tofu and parboiled potatoes, and reducing the sauce right down, so it "clings" to the ingredients.
Green beans, or aubergines would also work.
Lin's Food has a veganised rendang recipe on her website, if you're interested.
She hails from Singapore, and has a good idea of what ingredients you can/ cannot substitute, in order to keep things authentic.
Could you use the Rustic Kerno (sorry - spelling!) bookshelf in here once you get your kitchen storage built?
Lovely as your face is, it is so nice to see the country side and let us see what you see !! looks like an area of natural beauty
Love the office space. It looks like it was meant to be a guest cottage. It took me the longest time to figure out what you were talking about when you said "hob". I'm in the US and had never heard that before. Looking forward to your next video.
I haven’t read the comments so maybe this has been said about the floor plan already, but I would:
- take those two desks, have them rotate 90 degrees so they face each other and then push the sides of them up against the window. (So both desks get a little window action, also uses less wall space)
- then I would use the current couch-wall for storage cabinets, then put the couch on the diagonal in the opposite side of the room (next to that back door/closet door?) Then I would put bookshelves over it as a little reading/decorative nook.
Anyway, that’s just what flooded my mind when I watched your tour, hope you don’t mind me dumping my opinion on it in the comments. 😊
(of course considering all I’ve written I’m not sure where a third desk would go? Maybe it will still fit in that corner with the bean bag?)
Also, love your new home, its beautiful! it’s so fun watching these videos, thanks for sharing!
Lovely office space and area to make a coffee or tea. So happy for you both. Love Roxy!
Cool. So helpful to have a kitchen and bathroom in there.
It really is!
If you ever go to the beach that you once took Roxxie and Alex again, please take us! I'm dying to see those beautifull images! 💗😖
My husband is the same as Alex. He has boxes of cables to go with his computer and gaming stuff. Drives me mad!:)
Maybe it would be a good idea to encourage him to use better storage systems? If the stuff is ever used the cables are necessary, so to avoid frustration putting them away properly will help!
What a great space! ☀️
the walk music was so beautiful ahhh
Love you home and Roxie is adorable 🥰 x
My dog had the same issue! Try changing her food to cleaner meals full of fresh or lightly cooked meat :) It really helped in our case
Dogs need good meat to be healthy, there are companies that provide ready made/packed raw or cooked meals for them so you don’t have to deal with the meat 😃 if you’re vegetarian.
Hi Maddie so you answered my question where's the office. That's a cute little cottage outside your main house.❤
How exciting for us all
Omg that's amazing. I was one of the ones wondering where you would work from. But I totally see that this was the point that sold you with the house. Omg this makes me so happy as if it was my place haha
That office is such a wonderful space! So happy you were able to find this house. It's beautiful
Omg 😳 the Office is Epic
I hope you don’t mind me asking, what mascara are you wearing in this video? Your lashes look stunning! 🥰
Girl you are glowing!! Look so pretty!!
I’ll be really interested to find out how you go about making your boiler more environmentally friendly, I live in quite an old house and we have an old oil powered boiler that we’d really like to replace with a more eco friendly alternative.

My dog woke up from his nap and got really excited when you said "ARE WE GOING ON A WALKIES?!" to Roxie hahaha x
Oh wow - home office *goals* 😍
Love that👍🏻
Thanks for sharing💜
Your new space is so peaceful, thank you for sharing! P.S. accidentally clicked on this less than one minute after you posted! haha
Rosie is adorable 🥰
I thought her name was Roxie,or did i get something wrong. But yes,she is cute

Some companies are supplying workers with small desk and office chair due to Long term health implications. .. think thats what was meant.. maybe
@@suegale2273 I think we all know what she meant! Just unnecessary stupid comment. Also ... We don’t need Your translation.
I love your cardigan!
I love the perkier bars, I have a cacao and orange bar every day 😋
Was this used as an airbnb by the previous owners?
Your office is bigger then my flat 😭😭
I wondered where the office was too 😊 such a beautiful home, so happy for you, Alex and Roxie. Thanks for another great vlog 🥰 also, love the way you do your eye makeup, it's so pretty 🙂
I would put each desk on the side of the window and leave the window space open
lately your videos are my favorite videos on youtube :) they're just so relaxing
Love Alex's hiding skills 😂
Had to turn the sound down when Roxie was barking...my cockapoo was not happy 😆 xxx
I changed my dog diet (no chicken, beef, turkey, lamn) she only eats fish- she had bad allergies to everything else and it stopped the gland issue we had...so smelly!
I was wondering that as well :D
Sorry, if this has been asked loads before, ut where did you find your house? I.e. which websites did you use, if any? What did you search for in particular, like what filters/ terms? :)
And not to be a know-it-all or something, but from what I know, those harnesses like roxy is wearing can be really bad for their joints and skeletal system, bc they can't move their forelegs as they would normally. Just something to maybe consider or talk to a professional about :)
What a lovely office space! I once had mold on curtains, due to lack of ventilation. learned my lesson :))
I did enjoy your video today, thank you!!🙂
Lol your second kitchen is pretty much the same size as my only kitchen, and your office is the same size as my kitchen/living room
I love the office space!
Omg your office desk 💗 where did you get this one from?🙏
if nothing else works: biogas will most likely. we have an electric boiler in our home. how long is oil still allowed for in the uk?
So cool 🥰😎❤️!! Can't wait to see your garden tour!! Lol on Alex hiding 🤣😂!!
Loving the music in this video!
