Arkhangelsk First Impressions - Storm Warning Dev Server - War Thunder

Today on the Storm Warning Dev Server we take a look at the Soviet Battleship Arkhangelsk, which is HMS Royal Sovereign of the Revenge Class of battleships that the Soviets borrowed during the latter stages of World War II.
So join me as we take a look at this ship, analyse its stats and give my overall thoughts on its inclusion in War Thunder.

With regard to Arkhangelsk's real-life history, IIRC the reason that the disposition of Italian battleships needed to be put off for later was actually kind of funny. Stalin *really, really wanted* a Littorio-class battleship. But when Roma was sunk by a Fritz-X while sailing to Malta to surrender, FDR and Churchill basically said "sorry Joe, that one was yours" and called dibs on Italia and Vittorio Veneto. So HMS Royal Sovereign was loaned to the USSR as compensation until they worked out which of the older Italian battleships the Soviets would get.
When she was returned to the British in 1949, Arkhangelsk was in truly atrocious condition, including all four turrets being jammed and the ship being completely overrun by rats. The Royal Navy inspectors concluded that the turrets had never been rotated during the 5 years the Soviets had her, but there are photographs proving otherwise. My theory is that when Stalin realized he wouldn't be able to keep Arkhangelsk, he might have ordered that the ship be returned in the worst possible condition. Especially since Giulio Cesare/Novorossiysk (with mere 320mm guns) was so much less than he'd been hoping to get from the Italian fleet.

To be honest, Even though the Russians did get it before the British, The Russians are in desperate need of a good battleship. The Novorsisysk cannot kill anything because it has 13kg of TNT in it's AP shell which is just awful and the Kronsh is too easy to ammo rack even though it has crazy AP, you only live once in it. The Kommuna is good with not getting ammo racked easily and with a well trained crew it will flood the ammo if a fire brews up in the turrets and the izmail has no armor regardless of it's HE size, so that's also adding onto the Kronsh's problem. This is by far the best add on Russia has gotten since the Kutuzov and Bravy.

Yeah, USSR has five 7.0 battleships while Britain only has two (plus two more event vehicles). But honestly, Rodney and Hood should probably be 7.3 rather than 7.0. Naval BRs are *stupidly* compressed. I mean, look at Japan's bluewater top tier. Somehow, Kongo, Fuso, Hyuga, and Ise are the same BR as Mutsu and even *Amagi.*

I hope that Arkhangelsk is good , just got her few days ago , painful using kronshtadt because she can get ammo racked by any ship very easy , Arkhangelsk probably my hope before new ship getting add in 2025 🙏
