I can definitely relate to feeling that my only purpose was to fill my parents' narcissistic needs, and feeling like I was worth nothing when I couldn't. I also have this sense that I'm never quite good enough. Praise was my livelihood as a child, as without it, I felt really unloved. The sense that your parents' love is conditional on how impressive high are is so scary for a child. There was a real sense that I would get kicked out if I brought shame to my high-achieving family. I'm so glad that as an adult I no longer have to care, as I don't need their support anymore.
Wow. Just wow. I feel like I just endured 20 minutes of the most incisive psychoanalysis in my life. Like a whole year of therapy AND counseling ricocheting around in my headspace. Well done.
That makes me so happy to hear! My goal is that these videos can be a valuable resource for the Enneagram community to use, both for personal growth and for understanding those around us.
Thanks for this! This helped me visualize and also gave me a better idea of a Type 3 - which I, apparently, am. The effort to find clips and edit snippets of anecdotes is very much appreciated!
Thanks for this video! i'm reading "The Wisdom of The Enneagram" to write better characters, and this video helped me visualize the different aspects of the Type 3.
Your videos are my favorite. I never thought I would find something marrying my two favorite subjects and done so brilliantly. They’re works of art on their own but my type 3 is wanting it to get even more attention and reach even more people as it deserves 😅🙏🏻 thanks for your efforts!
I can't tell you how much that means to me! Self-promotion isn't my strong suit so I'm just trying to create meaningful content and hope it finds an audience.
I lost it at 0:37 - it's supposed to be a joke, but I actually do this 😂 Can't just get ready and go, gotta twirl in front of the mirror posing and making faces, show off to whoever's at home, take some pictures, send best ones to friends so they can feast their eyes too! Lol These videos are delightful, keep up the good work! :3
The Six video is where he belongs, but this clip was too perfect not to use in the three video. My videos aren’t really about typing specific characters, but more using short clips to demonstrate various aspects of each type.
VERY GOOD explanation in subtitles. HOWEVER impossible to recognize a three only only by his attitude. i do mean that a movie 'actor' obviously CANNOT look like a three if he is not a three himself in real life.
Maybe a real-life Three has a better chance of accurately portraying a Three on screen (i.e. Tom Cruise), but a highly-skilled actor should, in theory, be able to inhabit the mind of any character. Daniel Day-Lewis is a good example of this. He's portrayed a broad range of characters of vastly different Types with stunning accuracy... hence the three Oscars!
The Six video is where he belongs, but “It’s not a lie if you believe it” was too perfect an unhealthy Three quote not to use. The first series (one video for each Type) is more about using a bunch of different clips to give a high-level overview of what each Type is all about. The “actual Type” of each character doesn’t really matter, although I think most of them fit pretty well. George in the Three video would be the only example where I used a character that is 100% not that Type. For the new series I’m working on, about the Subtypes, I’d argue that each of those characters is definitely that specific Subtype.
That particular clip worked well in the Type Three video, but there’s probably other clips that could work just as well as a Four. The series is really more about using various clips to give people a “general overview“ of each type, rather than specifically typing specific characters. I’ve even use some characters that are clearly other types in other videos because specific clips work so well. The best example of this is the George Costanza clip I used in the Three video. He is clearly a Six, but that specific clip (“It’s not a lie if you believe it“) was just too perfect not to use for the Three.
I feel like I can't do enough as a 3. It's like a superhuman burden to carry. I don't think I've ever felt absolutely successful.. only when people can see it. It's horrible.
Wow this was amazing. It was a must watch list and I needed to safe the explanations almost with every movie to learn from it! Amazing work! ( 2w3 - with a very strong wing 🙈)
@@TypeCast OK THANK U ...the old lady is putting pressure on her to think . To use her Brain . To not follow her heart. For me as a type four following my heart has not worked out...I'm thinking I have to use my Brain more and Think About it 1st.
I suppose it’s different for every person, but maybe some combination of brain and heart would be good? Fours certainly have a way of tapping into their heart/emotions in ways that many others can struggle with.
as i watched Mr Depp's testimony that is what i wanted in life. I want to take my time to go deep for the answers before i speak ..travel as far as i need to go to reach the bottom of the well ..and just allow it to come up in a trickle if necessary. I feel many people jump in and so how to tell them ahead of time that this is what i would love . This space to dive in without making it sound like they now need to be in their head walking on eggshells? I need to do it in way where they feel at ease ..i guess i have to just let them say what they want and try harder to get my ideas out regardless of the environment? i spent yrs tryign to get people to just hold the space for me that didnt work they felt the egghells thing going on ill keep tapping in though thank u so much i ll just keep this phrase "tapping into heart and emotions" and have the faith :)
How does something with this production value and quality get this little views?
It’s tough to pull people’s attention away from all those cat videos.

Wow, that’s a lot. But it sounds like the realization has helped you to come to some kind of healing, or at least a better path forward. Keep going!
“It seldom occurs to them that the most important person who has rejected them is themselves.” Wow. I’m gonna be sitting with that one for a while.
The best lessons are the ones that hurt the most.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to send you my invoice for one year’s worth of psychoanalysis.
I know, right? That was extremely intense.
Glad I could help!
As a Three, man, this nailed it AND was insightful!
Thanks, that’s what I’m going for!
The last shot was golden. Love your love for Mad Men.
There are many great characters in Mad Men. Much more gold to mine for future videos.
This is a travesty--how are these not raking in thousands more views? Excellent examples, once again.
Thanks for the encouragement!
I'm betting they'll get there. Who are these guys/ gals? 🙂
Almost no one self reflects like four.

Had to finish a walk around the vices on the wheel by watching this🤣
We’ve all got our vices…
Amy is a perfect 4w3. This was great
Interesting! I've usually seen her typed as a Three but, to be fair, I've only seen the movie (never read the book).
I always thought Amy was strong 3w4 instead
Truly amazing collection, which hits home every single time. Great job!
Thanks so much!
Fuck. That last line from 7:53 hits hard!
So that resonates with your own personal experience… As a Three?
@@TypeCast Yes. Actually, pretty much everything in this video lol. Great work!
Thanks! And stay tuned, my next video is a deep dive “case study“ of Frank TJ Mackie from Magnolia. Three-est Three ever to Three!

One day God said, “How can I make the most Three-ish Three in human history?” Then nine months later, Tom Cruise was born.
Great edit again!
Is Mia Dolan a 3 or a 4w3? She seems to have a lot of traits of both.

2:15 where is the camera’s reflection???
They rotoscoped the camera/operator out. That’s why Birdman is one of my favorite all-time films, even just from a technical perspective.

the old lady at the 4 min mark is an unhealthy Three?
She might be, I'd have to think about that. But the clip/quote is more about Amy, the younger girl in the clip. She also appears later in the video.
