Very good of you to treat a fellow human being with didnity and respect, especially since kayaker seemed to have made a mistake coming in so close. We all make mistakes and we all appreciate forgiveness and understanding from others when we do. Well done, sir. My dad told me years ago that "whatever happens to us is not nearly as important as how we react to it".
As a kayaker and a bank fisher this situation is always frustrating. At the bank its really frustrating that people are inconsiderate of space and people that are already have lines out. As a kayaker I typically stay away from where people to give people their space.
I respect the way you handled the kayaker situation! Patience and a forgiving spirit are virtues that have become severely lacking these days to everyone's detriment. Well done indeed!
We have lake rules out here and boats must stay 50 yards away from shore when fisherman are present. Bass fishermen blow up spots all the time and troll the shores right next to people fishing. Then they get mad when they get line tangled in their trolling motors. I use braid just to add a little insult to injury.
I use to do this on the Outer Banks of NC. Oregon Inlet on the sound side. Wade around and find a nice spot. You never know what you might catch. That was the fun of it for me. After decades of owning 4wd vehicles and riding the beach fishing. Getting off where most people dont go unless in a boat or kayak is peaceful.
I've been fishing both salt and fresh water for years.... when I see people on boats or even on land interfere or get too close and interfere with my line, I get really annoyed. I go out of my way to give people their space whether they are swimming or fishing.... it's called respect and being honorable. There is an entire ocean, lake or shoreline out there..... they have to show up right on your doorstep. It's difficult for me to show patience and respect for such people. It's common sense really. I've been vocal with people on such occasions..... it's very difficult not to. Excellent video and excellent patience 👍
It's great to see the Reds come back. In 1971, I decided to catch a big redfish. I caught the highest tide every month at San Luis Pass from August through the first week of December when I finally caught a 33-pounder off the San Luis Pass pier. It was the only keeper-sized red I caught that year. I had no choice but to keep her. She died fighting me as I dragged her out of the flooding tide with a 17-pound test rig. My reel was barely up to the job as the spool finally split, when I had to drag her dead weight across the pass after she died. She was the only big red I saw caught that year. I got to fish with Dad for almost 60 years and only beat him twice. Both times, I was using a two-pound test line, and he was using a four-pound test line. One was fishing for specs off Dagger Island, Texas, using single worm 1/8 & 1/4 oz jigs. The other was jigging for crappie in a private pond designed for bass fishing. The boat turned, and I was out in deep water away from the brush where the crappie was spawning when a nine-pound blue cat hit that jig like a Jack Cravalle. It was one of the hardest fights I ever fought with a fish.
I just love how much you respect all marine life. I really love to see you get a keeper but also appreciate the ones you even scratch on their head to get them going again!
I like the way you handle adversity. That could have been a heated moment, but you kept your cool, and things went smoothly. Sometimes, it pays to be a nice guy!
Thank you for the respect you show towards nature. I love watching your shows and it’s interesting to see what kind of variety lives in the water. Keep up the awesome work. 😊
Geez, open your eyes!!! I have always tried to be aware in a boat when you are close in to shore to see if there are people with rods out off the shore! Situational awareness! You are a good guy Brant who takes things in stride!!! ✌
The Stingray Shuffle ! Good way to save your feet and legs AND a GREAT BOOK ( Written by Tim Dorsey, Florida writer. The book was hysterical! ) I highly recommend both, walking that way in Florida water and reading the book
I see so many people get upset when someone gets into their lines off the beach. I mean they are 100 yards or more out. You can't expect everyone to see your line and know they are that far out. Especially if they are fishing the same area you are. Glad you took it in stride and got back to fishing.
So the person on the beach needs to figure out whether or not the person in the boat has enough sense not to run over their line. Or the person in the boat is just mad because he has seen the guy catching way more fish than he has caught the entire year and is having a hissing fit and is going to cut the guy on the beaches line .
@jimmyfumbanks6081 honestly I think if your 200 yards out that's on you. You can't expect people to think you walked 100 yards out then cast another 100. At that point its unreasonable. Now if your 100 yards or less and someone sees your poles and comes in then yeah they are dumb
Great advice about shuffling your feet to avoid the Sting Ray's! I used to surf in S. California and have been hit twice, once the barb broke off in my foot, and it hurt like hell.
Good to see you my brother you know I love your fishing yep just let you know from a fan of yours I've been in Jacksonville 28 years now moving back home this Friday 25 to be with my father hometown around lake Okeechobee I can't wait to get back to that good fishing imma fill that cooler with fish imma try to hit all those areas down south and my dream fish I want one of those peacock bass I see they all in our area now all down in Miami and I love when you was going down there fishing that kept me feeling good like I was back home but thanks to the Lord hopefully next week I can be on that water just had to share that with but keep the videos coming hopefully you never know we might run into each other get some good fishing in 🎣 on🙏
I love rays and skates, their wings have the most delicious white meat that is about as close as you can get to across crab meat and lobster. But you can cook it with almost anything, and what you have will make a difference as to the flavor is so mild.
I’ve had multiple kayakers paddle over my lines, get tangled, paddle back & forth, even just sit over my lines. It’s so frustrating. Some times I believe they do it on purpose.
More and more they view themselves as Earth Activists or Animal Rights Activists, so anything they can do to tangle or cut your line brings then glee and pride. Saddly... ☆
Love your content! The fishing tips are great and you detailing your line and leader sizes is so helpful. I live in Texas but am now planning a trip to Pensacola after watching your UA-cam channel.
Used to go out past portofino and fish pcola beach with friends and the jet skis would ride all over where our lines were out, super annoying. I feel your pain.
Great job as always, for a minute I thought it was @ NAS PENSACOLA BEACH, used to live there @ Navy Housing. Used to walk to NAS Beach to fish, back before you were born 😂😂in mid 80’s. Used to fish where USS Lexington was docked, also where pilots used to train, caught many groupers, by the ramps. Keep up the good work. Go Gators!!
When approaching others engaged in shore fishing the full expectation is always a minimum of 100 yards out (typical casting distance) in 360 degrees (due to currents running parallel to shore).
Great video, sence that guy was all over your lines, at least he could have paddle one of your lines out for u in deeper water, u could have hooked up with the other red, would have made a great catch & cook,, Stay Safe God Bless,,
Ray wings taste pretty good. A little like scallops. The liver, fermented, is rich in Vitamin K2, which I hear is an incredible antioxidant not just good for teeth and bones. Oiling things like watch movements with it means the parts will never oxidise.
Next to working birds, a bend rod is the fastest way to attract a crowd. ...they'll spot ya 200 yards away. Try keeping your rod down even at the cost of losing a fish.
First time i ate stingray, i was doubtful. My brother cooked them up like 6 different ways. We learned why around the world it was good cooking in different cultures. All of the meat cooked out good. Some tasting like different fish but none the less it was good eating.
Just asking. I thought you would think the rays are like pest and wouldn't let them go back free in the water. Don't they make it hard and dangerous for surf fishing?
Re. stingrays, most experienced inshore fishermen know this: plain hot water will make a sting stop hurting almost instantly. It has to be as hot as you can stand it, though. The tell-tale stream from an outboard usually isn’t hot enough.
One thing about fishing--as you probably know. The light line, may have been a red herring. Meaning, when he switched to light line, it could be he tossed that lighter line into a depression, a hole, and that was high it got hit. Hard to know sometimes.
Freaking Kooks. You have way more patience than I do. He would’ve had a 7oz sinker launched at him if he ran over my lines seeing as I was wearing a red shirt on the beach with fishing poles sticking up.
Hey I love that area you fished early morning for reds. What was difference in the tackle from your heavy to light rig. You said you had 20lb on the light one what was hook size? Did heavy rig have heavier weight line and hook size? Guess lighter rig you did not cast out as far. Nice outing today
One time I was fishing with two buddies lined up in front of the rocks. We were chasing flounder during the run. Guy gets right next to us throwing a casting net all in front of us working the bottom.😳 Two huge shipping container ships are crossing in in between the jetties. Me and my buddies know what’s fixing to happen as we’ve already gotten back. So we just watch and wait. The surge from both of these boats was at least 10’ min. Comes in and takes him and his net with it. I’m laughing my ass off and he now gotten pulled in is completely soaked and his waiters are now full of water.
HATE TO BE A NEGATIVE NELLIE BUT I LEARNED MY LESSON ABOUT GOING BAREFOOT WHEN I WAS 13 -- SLICED OPEN MY FOOT ON A BURIED BEER CAN & HAD A 50 MILE TRIP INTO TOWN TO GET STITCHED UP - ALMOST CUT ATOE RIGHT IN HALF -- I NEVER EVER EVER GO AROUND THE WATER ANYMORE WITHOUT SOME HEAVY DUTY SNEAKERS ON -- NO OF THOSE CHEAPY BEACH SHOES - I MEAN HEAVY DUTY - OTHER THAN THAT - NICE FISHING MY FRIEND
You know a bent rod will draw 'em like bees to honey. You might see them but they see you. Ha. Same when in a boat and find birds working. Lucky to have them to yourself for 15 minutes until the gang arrives.
Yo man, how do you always get that perfect corner of the mouth hook set when your fishing like that? I just got into catching reds off the jetties with cut bait, I most fly fish or throw artificial. Lately I’ve been finding the fish are getting hooked in the back of the throat. I was using 12/0 in line circle hook and file down the barbs, just easier for hook removal and somehow it’s always been in the back of their throat.
My dad always told me to be nice. He said hes never met the perfect human before and he was positive they didnt exist. As a small kid i wore that. Im nice first then not nice if necessary. Life really is better starting out nice.
Hey Brant, I’m surprised none of your team has had Jack Motley take y’all off Perdido to catch a big tarpon. He had a video, a couple of years ago, where he took a friend out on kayaks and caught one about 6 feet long.
I'm still in amazement when I see surf fishermen walking out into the water to cast. I've had my fair share of Bull shark tooling through and have no interest in meeting any face to face. I was fishing much further south on Sanibel, Captiva and Ft. Myers beach when I encountered. Some iof us (ME) just have the bad luck of attracting dangerous animals, no matter where I go...lol Keep those lines tight and hooks filled, and enjoy the fishing life. Just found your channel and have subbed now.
I am curious. When you videoed walking your bait out, it looked like you were dragging it back in with you instead of free spooling. If that is the case, dosent that just negate the walk out into the surf?
How about this one: You first walk for about an hour along the beach to find a spot where there are no peple nearby that are bathing. You start finding spots but then as you start setting up, out of nowhere folks show up and start swimming right where you are setting up to fish. After going from spot to spot like this for about 3 hours, you finally find an area that is deserted and has no folks living nearby. You set up, start to fish, catch 1 undersized fish and as you are removing the hook, out of nowhere, a group of girls go right up to the water and are clearly about to go swim right where you have your other fishing lines in the water with 1/0 hooks. Dumbfounded you look on as they actually proceed to start going into the water where your fishing lines are and you have to yell out to them to get out of the water and go somewhere else before they get hurt by the hooks. Only to be greeted with the most blank stares of disbelief from each of the teenage girls as you actually have to explain to them how fishing works and show them the size hooks they were about to get stuck in their legs had they continued.
Charter boats with 4 paying customers pull up 10 ft from my dock , well used to. I put a old scuba tank in water and hit with a hammer it scares the fish away for 15 min. The capt on 1 boat cussed me out but I recorded and posted on his fb page. Unbelievable, no I do not own the water but I am fishing off my dock, period, no matter who is out there, they can move I cannot.
I used to (past tense) fish with a knucklehead who would cast his musky baits right up into where bank fishermen had their lines out. He got a good chewing out from one guy and I just smiled. Mistakes happen but he just couldn't get a clue. Or didn't care. Either way, I was done with him.
You are much nicer than I would have been. I don't even go near places where someone is fishing from shore. if I am in a boat or kayak, I can go anywhere. Very inconsiderate of that kayaker.
TY for not having loud music and unexpected gimmicky sounds. 🎣
Its never a mistake when someone rolls up on another person, with a whole ocean to fish in and all that open space .
I wouldn't have been so "respectful" since they are the only 2 fishermen in site and obviously the Kayaker saw him catch that red and moved in on him.
As a kayaker and a bank fisher this situation is always frustrating. At the bank its really frustrating that people are inconsiderate of space and people that are already have lines out. As a kayaker I typically stay away from where people to give people their space.
Good job I feel that in a canoe or a boat I am able to move to other spots let the shore and pier Anglers have their way
Same. When I’m kayak fishing I always try to give bank fishermen more than enough space when I have to cross by
Some people are just brain dead, others are rude and look for trouble.
I respect the way you handled the kayaker situation! Patience and a forgiving spirit are virtues that have become severely lacking these days to everyone's detriment. Well done indeed!
im getting to old i suppose for that crap, plus if i had any patients id be a Doctor lol
agreed
And thanks for fully describing your setup, and being honest about the results. 54 years since I was in Florida...
The number of ppl that will fish right on top of you when there's open water/coast line in either direction is mind boggling to me
But they think you are catching fish.
We have lake rules out here and boats must stay 50 yards away from shore when fisherman are present. Bass fishermen blow up spots all the time and troll the shores right next to people fishing. Then they get mad when they get line tangled in their trolling motors. I use braid just to add a little insult to injury.
I also clean up trash line lures, whatever is left. Nice job.

Nice video Brant! I love to fish that area and have caught some awesome Reds there. I love your respect to our local fishery and your professionalism.

You shoulda had that kayaker drop a couple lines deep!!! The least he could do....
Great video, can you mention the rules of take? And which state this is? Thanks
11:35 - Is that a piss jug next to the cart? ("It's the way of the road.")
Another great video 👍🏻
Thank you
Way to just roll with the oops, it seems so much now that people are so unaware and at times completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Kayakers and boaters always intrude upon us land based fishers. The whole ocean and they have to try and get as close as they can
Hey Brant what kind of rod holders are those
I used to (past tense) fish with a knucklehead who would cast his musky baits right up into where bank fishermen had their lines out. He got a good chewing out from one guy and I just smiled. Mistakes happen but he just couldn't get a clue. Or didn't care. Either way, I was done with him.
Have a good day everyone
I always cut the barb off and throw them back or sometimes I just eat them
All that ocean and still manage to hook a kayaker 😅
You handled the guy in the kayak well. I would've been more annoyed
Was the kayaker making an honest mistake the "Something Crazy Happened"? Or did I miss something?
You are much nicer than I would have been. I don't even go near places where someone is fishing from shore. if I am in a boat or kayak, I can go anywhere. Very inconsiderate of that kayaker.
Where is this spot
