In this video I am going to share how I use a freeware called #Touch-Portal to replace your keyboard by creating key-bindings/buttons on your smartphone or a tablet. You may download the page I made for my flights in the link below. If you come up with something more interesting, do share.

Thank you for sharing ! Discovered the software and icons thx to you ! Do you know how to toogle the looks of the buttons (ex. for AP ON/OFF) I can toogle the function, but not the look of the button. See you ;)

Purchased this app a few days ago for MSFS 2020. Fantastic! Instead of AU$200+ for Elgato and other devices, this app for AU$20 is cheap and works extremely well! It stops me reaching over my yoke to hit the keyboard, which was all a bit awkward. Highly recommended. One important thing - you said at the start that it is a free app. Yes, but you only get limited pages you can create, plus one or two other functions are not available in the free version.

Okay, so your video was a good find. I had purchased a bluetooth keyboard to sit between my left and right Logitech X52 HOTAS throttle and joystick in order to keep them in a more natural 'position' and not have to work them around my Razer keyboard. The bluetooth keyboard works great BUT I could immediately see the advantages of Touch Portal, particularly as relates to those commands requiring multiple key combinations (Shift + Ctrl + E for Auto Start Engine as example). So I downloaded Touch Portal for my PC and for my iPad and after playing around for an hour or so, plunked down my $$$ on the pro version. Thanks for this great suggestion and for all you MSFS related videos!

Hey Adventure 494 - thanks for sharing, I have tried it and think its brilliant so I bought the Pro version. At the moment I have AP Alt buttons and also heading and speed as well as Altimeter set up on my Ipad in front of my Honeycombe Alpha. It works great and looks great, it was easy setting up simple buttons, which is good for me. I also have a problem sometimes with the mouse where the rotary buttons spin, that's really bad when its the auto pilot so its great that this app solves that too. Thanks again.

This seems like such a huge amount of work. I just wish Asobo would includes the possibility to dock any of the in game screens to an external network accessible url which could be loaded on devices assuming they were on the same network.
yes that would be really good and the best resolve for the general problem. lets hope they read these things.....
Great idea and tutorial. Just needed to tell us to use Manage Page to export the new panel to the device (iPad pro here). Now to see how to raise the seat for a better view forward. Thank you for your patient work.

Yes there is a free version, but you are limited to a grid of 4×2 (2×4) and you can create only one extra page extra to extend your buttons

I also just found Touch Portal for my flight sim hobby. There is an avionics icon pack available from the Touch-Portal website. You can also have the icons change to reflect the button state (on/off)
It also works beautifully for X-Plane 11, especially the Zibo 737. You can pretty much map a keyboard command to every switch on every panel. I have panels now for the Zibo 737, FF A320 and MSFS 2020

I've been using a Logitech G13 game pad for years for this purpose.

Hi there, I don't believe Touch Portal works for Xbox. I just googled and did not find any solutions just yet. Perhaps in the near future.
WOW, I would never have known about this software package if I hadn't come across your video purely by chance, so huge thanks for sharing! Fortunately at least one of my old iPads has iOS 10 which is still suitable for the app side of things. Presumably this can be used with X-Plane 11 as well, as keyboard bindings are incorporated in the same way as MSFS2020? Can wait to start exploring the possibilities with this software, so many thanks again for sharing it with us. Regards from the UK :-)

That happens automatically, as soon as you create a button on the Desktop, it updates to the iPad given that you’ve made the connection from the PC to the iPad vv
Thanks for the intro! Set up a page for MS2020. On my app, I can’t see the page, only the Main Page. What could be the reason?
Ok try making another page with a diff name. Be sure to make a button at main page to take you to the MSFS page. Hope this helps.

Yes there are other such as using the Stream Deck but I'm still using this on my iPad 🙂

Can you do one video for fsx and explained how connect the game , the steps in how to add the commands and example using a flight using all the commands. Examples starting the game and using the touch portal.

Thanks for the video. How do you get the button designed on the PC to the móvil device? Does it happened automatically? I have my android tablet connected to the PC, but is not replicating the PC.
It updates automatically...as soon as you make a button it displays in the tablet. Try exiting the app on the android and getting back in.

Hi Just, if you’re referring to the ipad/tablet units. You can get a touch monitor but it might be a bit bulky. If you have a phone or a tablet laying around use that. If you’re referring to the main monitor. I am using a 32 inch 4K BENQ monitor. Hope this helps 😊

Thanks for your video, that made me wish to have this solution too. I downloaded and upgrade to pro version yesterday evening, isntalled everything on my comp and started to play with the software and create a few basic buttons. On the touchpad app, everything worked, I created toggle buttons and it seemed nice. I also checked that the keys were generated by Touch Portal (pening a blank word document and pressing the buttons on my ipad, I saw that everything worked fine). However, when I launched FS2020, strangely, my buttons on the ipad had no effect on FS. I mean that FS2020 did not react on the buttons I pressed, even a simple one such as the map launch (using the V key press) did not work). I was still obliged to use my real keyboard... Is there somehting special on the key presses, do we need to increase the duration of the key press (default is 100ms) ? is there something else to install on top of touch portal (which was obviously still running while I did my tests). Thansk in advance if you have an answer to that, and once again thanks for your video.
Hi Jean, when you start-up your Touch Pad app, you should get a connection detection, if that is ok then you'll need to have touch portal running on your PC. You can check of the connections (iPad connected to the Pc) I am guessing it's a connection issue between your device and your PC. I have Wi-Fi connection on my PC to my iPad. It worked right away. Let me know?
@@Adventure494 Thank you for your answer. However, it was not a problem of connection (the connection wroked fine between the two). I finally found the issue : the two softwares (Touch Portal and Fs2020) MUST run in the same mode (Administrator, or User). And because FS ran in Adminsitrator, my Touch portal on my comp ran in User mode, and the two did not communicate. I changed the mode for Touch portal, now it runs in Adminstrator mode and everything is fine.
Actually, the explanation is that in two different modes, keys cannot be exchanged between the softwares.
I gues Touch Portal should add a comment in the FAQ, because this is true for any software.
Thnak you once again for your video, as it really helped me to configure a few buttons first, and this really makes FS2020 much more attractive.

Thank you for your video. I have questions: I have an iPad and window desktop computer. If I understand well, I download the software to my desktop computer or to my Ipad. I am not sure? How do you link your IPad to your window computer? Thanks for your help.
Hi Gilbert, you'll need download into both the PC iPad. I connect mine via WiFi (same SSID) there is a possibility to connect via Bluetooth. Hope this helps. 😀

Great video, thanks. I have downloaded both versions, PC and IOS Pro version and installed. I followed your new page set up , connected to my iPad and just created a couple of buttons to test the system but all I see on my iPad is the four default buttons and the newly created buttons do not show even though I have selected the newly created page. It must be something simple but I have no idea what is wrong. Paul
Hi Paul, did make a button to access the page you made form the main menu? You'll have to create a button to access the page you'd like to use in the sim. Hope this helps...

I have just watched your video again and still can’t find the part you are talking about. Can you give the time in the video where you show this please ? Also when I create a new page I don’t get a “go to main” button , any idea why not? Your help is appreciated.
Only the first two rows show up on my android phone (s10+). Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Play with the rows and columns settings...I has the same problem but got it sort by adjusting them.
@@Adventure494 I tried doing that and the buttons don't resize. I get a maximum of 8 buttons and two rows.

I do not know what's going on. But Ipad doesn't want to connect to the touch portal. I have something like that "partially incoming only connect touch portal"
Both devices must be in the same wifi network

@@Magura2004 if you’re using the free version you’ll have a 2x4 only option. You can also have a 2nd page. That’s it. You can make your buttons on main page if you need to. But you’ll have only 8 buttons Max.

Does touch portal on your phone need to always be open? Like can I lock the phone with the app open and unlock it and still use it? Or does the app need to be displayed at all time to not lose connection??
Hi Shane, the idea is to have the phone/tablet always ‘on’ to use it. It connects to the desktop software. If you close either one the connection will be lost. Hope this helps. 😊
@@Adventure494 awesome thanks. Tried using it with elgato game capture hd but won’t recognize any of the virtual key press commands. When I’m in elgato game capture and press the key command it works but when it’s setup in touch portal the button doesn’t do anything. I can open my software with touch portal but after that none of the buttons work unfortunately.

@@Adventure494 yes it works outside of that software... it works with my pc I can open apps, control other programs just not that one specific program which is unfortunate because that’s the software I use for recording games and streaming. Guess I’m back to using my good ol fashioned keyboard 🤣. Thanks for all your help though! 👍🏽

How do you use Touch-Portal?
Go to the touch-portal site, there is plenty of help on that site. Simple really! Plus, the video above does explain quite a bit on how to add the 'buttons' and how to assign a keyboard function for that button.

@@rjkanga you need TPZ that’s the file that opens the page, use the import feature to import the tpz page into touch portal. Hope this helps
