Sidney Poitier played a teacher that came into a British classroom of tough, hard to teach students and changed their lives....they all ended up respecting and loving him. It was a wonderful movie
@@brendahhstiles9992 Yes,you need to watch the movie,it's a classic and there is nothing inappropriate about this film..The actual clip where Lulu sings to the teacher is on UA-cam somewhere,it's such a heartwarming moment.
I agree. I saw the movie and am a child of the 60's. It was not inappropriate at all, but just a song of love and respect to someone who shaped young humans into decent adults.
Wonderful movie. The great Sidney Poitier played a teacher to this class of teenage kids in a tough London neighborhood. They called him “Sir”. Lulu had a big role in the film as one of the students and sang this song to his character. This song is magic! One of the best film songs ever!
Speaking of Sidney, I know and worked with his Great Nephew on a job few years ago. One day, I noticed his last name, and I asked, "are you related to Sidney?" Avery stated that he is my Great Uncle. If you see Avery and Sidney side by side, you can see that they are definitely related! Avery stated that he met his famous uncle once at a family reunion.
SHE WASN'T IN LIVE WITH HIM, BUT APPRECIATIVE OF HIS GUIDANCE. The class were the "bad" students, and he had such class and grace. He expected them to be better people and they became better people. It is a great movie -- also called "To Sir with Love."
It was a wholesome movie. He didn't have an affair with her or any other student. He just taught them about life and how to prepare for adulthood the right way. Much like Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds from the 90's. To Sir With Love was the OG Classic version of that. Her song is basically just thanking him for doing what he was supposed to do as a teacher - prepare them for life afterwards.
The movie was also a twist on Blackboard Jungle from the 50s, in which Sidney Poitier played one of the "bad" students in a class taught by Glenn Ford's character, and was the first "rock & roll movie" (Rock Around The Clock was the theme song). A decade later in To Sir With Love, Poitier was essentially playing Ford's character, plus being a black man teaching a white class was a commentary on the times (civil rights).
....."To Sir With Love" is the title track of a movie starring Sidney Poitier as a new black teacher who arrives at a tough high school in the London slums in 1967. It's the story of how he wins their respect and the singer, Lulu, was cast as one of the students. The song is about how they grew to respect him..... 😇
In my opinion one of the greatest actors of our time. If anyone broke barriers Mr. Poitier did. To sir with love one of his best. He set the bar. Thank you Mr. Poitier a true class act. RIP 🙏
The movie was not about her falling in romantic love with her teacher. The movie was about a teacher (Sidney Poitier) inspiring his students and she was one of his students The song is basically about a student giving thanks to a teacher for being a great teacher.
Yes, Lulu was married to Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees. She and Maurice can be heard singing "The First of May," as a duet. The song was written and performed by the Bee Gees, so if you want to react to it, make sure you search for Lulu and Maurice's rendition.
This was not an inappropriate teacher student love story. it was a growing respect for a teacher by the class. It was a open school and some rowdy kids learning about life. They started causing trouble in class until he taught them how to think for themselves and to think about others. Lulu was one of those students in the film.
Her "love" represented the entire classes feelings. It was a school of hard knocks! He made the kids believe they could reach for the moon. I need to go watch the movie again.
I think of this song as a thank you to the late, great Sidney Poitier for all that he gave to us. All of his movies are a must watch. He is so missed...
Great movie. She (and all the girls in class) had a crush on the teacher. The song was sung to him at their end of year party as a gift from the whole class. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it. Good to see Mom again. Happy Holidays all.
This is the title song to the 1967 movie of the same name. Lulu was in the film with Sidney Poitier - she got the gig after director James Clavell saw her open a show for The Beach Boys. At first she had just a small role in the movie, but Clavell was so impressed with her that he expanded her role and had her sing the theme. The film stars Poitier as a high school teacher who has a big impact on his unruly students. Lulu plays one of his students, and sings this song to him at the end of the film as the students show their appreciation for the teacher. Lulu is a charismatic Scottish singer known for her moving rendition of this song. She was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Laurie (one source cites "Lawrie" as the spelling). She also sang the title song for the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun. From 1969 to 1973, Lulu was married to pop star Maurice Gibb. >> This was Billboard's single of the year for 1967, having been #1 for five weeks in the USA. However in Lulu's native UK it was only ever a B-side to her #11 hit "Let's Pretend." (Songfacts.com)
Judy Geeson's character (Pamela Dare) was the one who had a crush on Sidney Poitier's character in the movie. Although LuLu star in the movie and sang the song, the song was from the class to the teacher (but very well could have been from Pamela Dare).
Me too 😍🥰😍 She knew what it was about, in no way was it about a teacher hooking up with his students A beautiful film, I wish we had more teachers like that 🌻🌻🌻
A great video to put a smile on everyone's face's this Christmas time, DIRTY LOOPS ROCK YOU, with some great Michael Jackson style funk. best wishes from the north east coast of England.
A great film with Lulu staring Sidney Poitier. Lulu as had long career as a Singer in the UK with her own shows. She has had the likes of Jim Hendrix as Guests.
I cry everytime I hear this song. I had a teacher that had such a major impact on my life and I think of him when I hear this. I wouldn't be pursuing a science degree and doing what I love if it wasn't for the belief he had in me...and all of his students. RIP Mr. Fitz.
Actually she's from Scotland.Great singer. This was huge hit in 1967. A woman I met somewhere said her mom lived up the road from Lulu. She seemed credible. OH ME OH MY is my favorite of hers. Artists and songs like this are the reason the 60s r my favorite decade. So fortunate to have grown up then.
Just an incredible beautiful song. I fell in love with it as a kid and didn't know the name of it until almost 20 years later! Love the song!! The strings in the song are fantastic!
No it's not like that!! The teacher was inspirational not inappropriate. This is the title track to the movie which is absolutely brilliant and very moving. Lulu is one of the most underrated singers ever!! Thank you for your reaction. Best wishes from the UK.
You should check out some of the newer live performances. Lulu still looks very young and considering her age(74 I think), still sounds virtually the same. Amazing voice even now. She was still performing live shows even last year, I'm assuming she still is.
She was around before this song as a member of a British group. But as others mentioned she made it internationally with the movie and this song. In Britain, she is still big as a host and has performed with many others.. Wonderful song. Super reaction..
Brad & Lex with Mum. The Film "To Sir with Love" was made on a shoestring budget. They could'nt pay Sydney Poitier. When Columbia Pictures executives saw the film they did'nt like it so the film was given very little advertising. Word of mouth made the film a world wide hit. In New York it played for month's. From this film onward everyone new who "Sir" was. When President Obama, presented Sydney Poitier with the medal of Honour he was introduced as Sir. If you find the time you should watch the film. It can still tug a heart string to this day. Cheers, Chris Perry.
I had the privilege to meet Lulu a few years ago at Glastonbury Festival here in Somerset, England. I was stage managing on a nearby smaller stage and went to help out at the larger Avalon stage. She was wonderful, although her entourage wouldn't allow any photos/selfies. As she was going up the steps to get on stage, she turned to me, waved and winked. I melted on the spot.
She didn’t fall in love with her teacher she was expressing her appreciation to her teacher, actually, the entire class gave a gift to the teacher at the end of the school year in that class was graduating and moving on to adulthood end, and they gave him a present and the card read to Sir with love. This takes me back to when I was young and would go through my dad’s record collection. Lulu, Dusty Springfield, Bobbie Gentry, Dionne Warwick, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Temps, Elvis, Tom Jones, etc. He was never into the Beatles or the Stones, but R&B and great pop singers from the 60’s…man, he had a collection! I know you’ve looked at Bobbie Gentry, but if you haven’t listened to Dusty Springfield, I’d suggest her.

Yes, very respectful relationship between teacher and students. This was the first in a string of movies that had the same theme...Teacher getting through difficult students. Another great one from around that time was "Up The Down Staircase" with Sandy Dennis. Same theme. Great movies.
A beautiful song that touches me personally because when I was little every Christmas season our single mother would take my sister and I on the bus to NYC and Radio City Music Hall which also had a live Nativity Show and of course the Rockettes!! This was one of the movies we went to see!! I'm over 70 now but this song makes it feel like it was yesterday!!
Lulu was just 18 years old when she did this song and when it was released she had turned 19 she was the girl wearing the purple top in the film and it is a must see movie such great acting and a very good theme truly befitting a real Hollywood acting master up there with all the greats of the past and a genuine nice person who never stopped fighting for his fellows against tyranny and being classed as second class citizens a true legend both on and off the screen RIP Sir.
Great song. Great movie. I met the great Sidney Poitier when I was a college student in the 80s. Some friends and I snuck on to a country club he was playing and he caught us. He was so nice and talked to us for about 15 minutes. He said he wouldn't turn us in if he could play through. What a great guy.
Not falling in love, learning to respect him as their teacher. They gave him a hard time in the beginning but he wouldn't stand for it. He gave them respect and in turn they learned to respect him. He taught them all how to live a good life and have the tools to survive. Simple things like taking care of themselves, being clean and put together. Learning how to cook etc.
Not the inappropriate student/teacher thing. You have to see the movie. The whole class grew to love and respect him as their teacher. Great movie.
From my high school days! It still gets to me at age 72😎
Yep,nothing sexual about it
Respect

She "is". 😉
And still an amazing voice
IS a British national treasure!
