Sounds like one of there legal team members is a female and raised her hand and husband looked over, and she went into full lawyer mode to protect herself
Lead balloon is by far one of my favorite myths. To make that work was truly genius and I’m sure so painstaking. Big booms are fun but damn that balloon was impressive.
One of my favorite episodes from childhood. Like adam has said, its totally a new format for them at the time - its not like an explosion or anything, just some guys trying to do something difficult. I think this episode really allowed the science/educational aspect of the show, where they could spend plenty of time on the nitty gritty, to grow in later years.
@@Ayooooooooooo Australian version ran for 50 minutes with 10 minutes of commercials. US version was something like 43 minutes. A lot of the stuff edited out were generally jokes or stuff that was funny but not mission critical to the results according to Adam. For instance I believe Jamie's strawberry story weren't in the US version.. or at least I don't remember it..
Thanks for posting; this has always been one of my favourites: & I always have to point out that the Montgolfier brother's did not make the first balloon flight in 1783. They made the balloon but the first 2 tethered flights were by Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier; the first free flight was by de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes.
Happy Happy Joy Joy......easily my favorite episode. I enjoy them blowing sh*t up, but there was a sense of the real possibility of failure. That tension made the celebration of completing the task all the more enjoyable. Jamie's congratulation as the balloon was filling shows the level of respect they had for each other.
Damit I miss the Mythbusters. They shouldn’t have end it. They could’ve done tons of small cool projects, instead of going bigger and bigger, til they ran out of ideas and no return on the investment.
It's better to let the show end then to keep going. They did their part in making all of us get invested in science and research. Now we have to let them retire from it all. If they do end up returning and it is successful i would love to watch.
Something about the episode not being able to air in other countries from what i got in different video which didn't make much sense to me because episode and seasons are wrong too
How are the seasons counted? by wikipedia, lead balloon is 2008 ep 2. This channel has this episode uploaded both as S4E28 (this) and S5E27 (/watch?v=Bjq1NgGxkE8)
They said that it was a "quarry lake", which is to say it's a big hole that was dug for resources and then it filled up with water. It's not a natural body of water and there were were no fish in it
Are these old episodes that are just being posted on UA-cam?, or are the Mythbusters still around?. I thought they parted ways, hence Adam Savage's tested shows on UA-cam
It was pretty obvious to me the lead balloon would work. Make anything thin enough and it will float. They made concrete fly, of course they could make lead foil float.
The thing about the lead balloon is that with how flimsy lead foil is, it would be difficult for most people to design one without it ripping. As seen in the myth, the consistent issue was the flimsiness of lead rather than the actual weight
The myth isn't getting something to float for a few seconds before disintegrating. It's "flying" as in moving around under its own weight. Yes, anything thin enough to be carried by air can float for a bit, but if the material isn't sturdy enough it'll just fall apart, which is what the lead balloon was nearly doing. If they went any thicker on the material than they did, it would have been too dense to rise up, any thinner and the balloon would have ripped apart from any attempt to fill it with air. So, not so "obvious"
The challenge is not in the fact that lead is heavy, it's in how hard it is to work with. They make it abundantly clear that the problem is all in how hard it is to actually make. Adam has stated this was his favorite myth and it's easy to see why, it is incredibly impressive that they actually made this happen. If you want to be pedantic about it, the "easy" solution is not to make the lead as thin as possible, but to go bigger. Thanks to the square cube law the bigger you make it, the thicker and thus stronger you can afford the lead to be as the volume scales faster than the surface area.
Loved this channel when i found it but now after seeing it only has the rights to a few seasons and they just continue to reupload them after running out of things to air def is just trash sad to say it but unsubbed Maybe ill be back in a few years if i wanna watch these eps again
Two of the most impractical builds ever! Both no human could test or have a use for! Just a waste of resources and just harming the earth more. Crazy how, we take this earth for granted
The surfing one wasn't debunked. While the ad was staged, the physics don't match from the video to the experiment. Secondly they test in a quarry lake, not a canal. Canals have specific designs which shape any explosion that may occur in the canal, which you don't get in a quarry lake, or a lake in general. The shape of the canal would have allowed a far smaller explosion to have reflective wave formation and larger upwelling of water to form a surfable wave.
Someone's confused since this episode is supposedly from Season 5 Episode 2, from a year ago and on the same channel? or am i drunk? Edit #1: Name of the episode is "The Hindenburg Mystery"
Jamie calling over Adam and patting him on the back while the lead balloon is filling up is one of the absolute best moments of the show.
Watching these episodes all these years later without ads and commercials and shit it's like 10 times better.
The producers of Mythbusters are not responsible for any marital issues resulting from raised hands." 😂😂

Ever since Adam said his all time favorite myth they did is Lead Ballon, I've wanted to watch it!
I can see why he likes it so much. It really did look like fun to work on

Adam has said on Tested how much better the international cuts of mythbusters are than the US cuts. Now I see what he is talking about.
I’m unaware, what more is included on the international?

This might be the best episode of the entire series, just awesome.

And now we wish he did
Awesome origami design by Adam 👍
15:58 Rice doesn't belong in all burritos, but it definitely makes some go a long way..
Confucius, but for burritos!
In separate interviews, Jamie and Adam say they don’t wanna work together anymore,
they do sure have some good moments together

iirc they dropped the b team before they could ask for more money. And they've tried multiple times to reboot it, it just isn't the same

I miss them too but these people got good money and are now enjoying their lives. I think they gave us enough
At least Adam is still around M5 with his UA-cam channel; Answering questions regarding Mythbusters and working on different projects and whatnot.
you can still see the marks on the floor from trailblazers.
Nicely done!
But this video was already uploaded, I watched it last night. What happened?

Me knowing know from Adams Tested that it took months just to get that package.
Rest in peace.
Less goooo!
Am I the only one worried about the fishes in that lake if they were exploding?

Eppstein. It's a name. Get over it. 😅

@karie actually only USA or USSR could have in 1960 by exploring hydrogen bomb😅

So this is why everyone on this show seems to be missing something. Lead poisoning is no joke and gloves are not enough lol.
Even if you could surf with dynamite you’d be wiped out permanently by the explosion long before the wave has the chance to wipe you out
