    Our neighbors once made the mistake of burning some household garbage in their backyard. An aerosol can shot up out of the fire, hit a tree by their house and ended up setting the house on fire. Stupid games = stupid prizes.

    A fire department tested bullets in fires years ago, as they wanted to know if they would penetrate their bunker gear. What they found was that as the cartridge was uncontained, it would blow apart and wouldn't penetrate their clothing. May have been published in American Rifleman, can't recall.

    With the keg myth, kegs are usually refilled and reused many times. The keg they used had some minor knicks to it. Considering how much a keg costs, I would think that it'd only get thrown on a fire if it was so damaged that you would feel ripped off by how much less beer it'd hold when full. (Eg. Someone kicks it over and it rolls down a hill or off a table, or some particularly hefty person trips on it twice, knocking it over and falling straight on top of it.) That additional damage would create a lot more points of failure for the keg around the perimeter. Obviously it's a bit late for a revisit, but that's my 2c 😊

    My Hawaiian brother in law (rip) told me a story of throwing a can of shaving cream into a bed of hot coals on the beach. A group of surfers and their girlfriends were all asleep around the fire pit. My brother in law and his other Navy friends had had a dispute with them earlier. He said when it blew up it looked like a volcano and rained hot coals down on everyone within a 20-30' radius. They stood in the darkness and cheered Pele's retribution. He laughed about that his entire life. This was in the late 60's in the San Diego area somewhere.

    36:35 the shrapnel can definitely be lethal. I remember seeing a video of a guy setting off a .22 with a hammer. Some shrapnel hit him in the leg and he almost bled out. It may not be immediately lethal, but if it hits you in just the right (or wrong) spot, you're as good as dead.

    What Mythbusters tells us is that getting the perfect conditions so an explosion or other disaster occurs is hard, like getting the right mix of a given products like oxygen and gasoline in a given volume. But entropy and big numbers will make so that after a while, it always happens somewhere that perfect conditions for catastrophe occur and disaster always happens in a completely unforeseen manner. Like the well known explosions caused by wood dust, for example.

    The worst thing to throw into a fire is a jeu de boule/petanque ball. They're concrete cores with a metal layer cast on top. It is essentially a perfectly sealed pressure vessel with the shear lines already cut in. The concrete, and the remaining water, heats up until the metal skin can't take the pressure and it explodes like a frag grenade.
    In the Netherlands, this killed someone last summer. Someone had thrown one of those balls into a fire, it exploded and a chunk hit a guy in the head. He died on the spot.

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve 11 місяців тому

      @@GOAT_GOATERSON YT laat geen links toe, maar als je op "jeu de boules bal dodelijk ongeluk" zoekt vind je meerdere artikelen.
      Het was in een vuurkorf gegooid, dus mensen zaten er langere tijd omheen. Een beetje volle vuurkorf wordt heel heet in het midden, als de bal daar terecht komt kan het snel gaan. Het grootste probleem zijn de groeven die het nummer aangeven. Perfecte plek voor het metaal om te scheuren en te fragmenteren. Net als een handgranaat, maar dan gevuld met beton.
      Het zal niet altijd gebeuren, maar het risico is groot genoeg om het vooral niet te doen. Zelfde met stenen in het vuur gooien. Die kunnen ook veel water bevatten en uit elkaar klappen. Gebeurt niet vaak, maar als het gebeurt heb je echt een probleem. Niet alleen de steen vliegt in het rond, maar ook brandende stukken hout.
      Het beste is niks dan brandhout in een vuur te gooien, komt alleen maar ellende van.

    Red flag to a bull is not busted if the flag is moving. Yes, any colour will do but a red flag is as good as any if it's moving.

    • @gwammeh
      @gwammeh 2 місяці тому

      They... they literally showed that in the episode. They had a segment with one moving flag and one stationary flag and the bulls went for the moving one.
      The point of the tests was to see if, since the saying is "like a *red* flag to a bull", the color being *red* or not made any difference. That is what they set out to do, and that is what they busted, since the bulls attacked everything that was moving and/or everything in their pen, in that order.

      @gwammeh oh dear. Yes, that is, of course, correct. I was being facetiously literal. A bull is attracted to a red flag if it's moving. Bull fighters don't use red to attract the bull, although some might think the red matters, they use it for showmanship and maybe, but unconfirmed, to hide the blood. The saying should be, "Like a flag to a bull", but some fool had to add red for literary reason and another thought it was the main message.

      Grant agreed to be the ballistic gel head. He agreed to it enough that he sat still for like an hour while unable to move nor speak. Unless the myth being tested is about an aneurysm, there's absolutely nothing about the ballistics gel head being his that could possibly age poorly. It's a reminder of his love for what he did more than anything.
