A couple things you missed: they added water splashing on the screen when attacking a naval unit, and they added a depth of field blur for farther units in combat

@@seld2040 It maybe the @5:28 indicates that the CO in VS Mode could play the nation's color if none of the other players have selected that color.
They sort of did this in AW2. In the War Room, P1's color is based on the CO (Sonja = Yellow, Eagle = Green, Lash = Black, etc.). Now P2 would always be Blue, unless P1 is Blue, then P2 is Orange instead.
So basing on that image:
P1 = Sami = Orange
P2 = Grit = Blue
P3 = Jess = Green
P4 = Sturm = Black
So since Black hasn't been used by P1, P2, or P3, P4 can be Black instead of Yellow. That's how I see it. :)
@@RadioTails Not only that, but I believe in custom maps you can set up Black Hole as one of the factions on the map. I remember doing that in Dual Strike a few times, which I believe was carried over from 2.
To add to the comment above for people, RubberRoss confirms this in his stream about the direct by not so slyly asking his fans if they recognized Max's voice. Ross is good Friends with Egoraptor and it only makes sense that is who he was talking about.
One thing that’s possible is that the campaigns are balanced faithfully, but versus is balanced more competitively. It’s worth noting that neither trailer showed units attacking in versus. In fact, I think it’s likely both War Room and multiplayer are balanced this way as the War Room style button only seems to dis/enable Super CO Powers and Neotanks.

One thing to note is that the button showing Super Powers and Neotanks doesn't necessarily mean that those are the only changes that occur when you press the button. They're most definitely the two main distinctions between the two games, but there's no way to know yet whether anything else changes under the hood as well.
@@riluna3695 This is true, but it feels like extra effort to single those out specifically. Plus, the leak said that those would be the only changes between the two styles.
That's also what I'm hoping for too...but at the same time I wondered how (or if they even know) would they even know what CO's needed to be rebalanced or even change in some way... As Mangs has said, and as we've seen in the trailers, it's really a very faithful remake of both games...so adjusting CO's for not only story mode but online as well, definitely sounds pretty jarring (Essentially, you'll be playing and learning at least 2-3 versions of the same CO)...
Personally, they should just really take the time to compare all the versions of the CO's in all three games, adjust their stats accordingly, and then release the game so that way we can all play only one "balanced" version of each CO in the game regardless of the two version's game state. Of course, the problem is that at this point is that this is kinda the "time-crunch" period with the game being release less than two months away, and trying to rebalance all 19 COs at this time is just too much...they would definitely have to delay the game even farther if they're willing to go that far...
It's pretty much wishful thinking at this point...slight disappointment, but understandable...
I think that the change from stars to circles for the CO power (3:58) is very good, would probably allow them to be a bit more specific with how much points are in the CO power by showing 4ths of the circle instead of halves of the star.
Though we were shown an empty CO meter. The dots or circles could change in to stars when 1 is full.
In the war room section the super was displayed with 3 stars.

1:05 the ironic part of this is that Grit is supposedly the indirect combat master and does use artilleries to do most damage, yet his tank is the one getting destroyed by an artillery which seems to be more in place if both were swapped around

I love how we were shown many battle clips of certain COs getting a unit destroyed by another unit type they specialize in, also Max Recons gets destroyed by Andy Tank.

This! The original game came with serious limitations, worst being the size of the map.
I would actually be for that 100%! The only concern is how the factory would function under a player's control.
@@LegionoftheBlackStar Well in AW2l, the unit's that are built from the Factory (for free) are based on a fix list (separate for each map). Due to the way it works, I doubt they would let you add them in the Design Maps.
Maybe they would allow the other BH Weapons like Minicannons, providing one player is set to Black. That would be cool.
@@RadioTails True. The Black Cannons and Minicannons both have a higher chance to be placed in map design. There were two maps in Dual Strike that you could have minicannons under your control, Watery Downs and Hunter Isle of the War Room. They just did the same as in the campaign and automatically fired at the highest value enemy unit in range.
one tiny thing i noticed that wasnt in the video is that when we see Olaf activating his Blizzard, we actually can hear him say "Blizzard!" in the background.
also, it appears that terrain backgrounds based on surrounding terrain are going to be a thing again!
back in AW2 the fight animations showed not just the terrain a unit attacked from, but also the surrounding terrain in their background (e.g. a mountain, if one was right next to the spot the unit was standing on - i dont know if there were any specific rules that apply to it, like only terrain which is above said space being shown, so that might be worth testing out). This feature was absent in Dual Strike, sadly, but seems to be making a reappearance again, as we can see an attack animation with both sides standing on roads and Flaks troops having a forest behind them, while Colins units have a cliff and water in the background.

Black Hole vehicles now float. i dont think they did that in the original games and it really helps selling the point of them being otherworldly invaders! thats such a cool little attention to detail!

Mangs, the only think that debunks 50% max is if the clip was recorded while max was using his CO powers and Powers in Reboot camp now granted an Offensive boost. This would give him the value he needs to preform very similar damage to AW1 Max. So maybe Maxi s nerfed to AW2 but they have taken precaution to not show it as much for unknown reasons. Highly Dout Aw1 Max will be allowed Online with no changes, especially if your Uncle at nintendo has been right on almost everything else except here...

I still cannot believe something like this even exists, it’s a miracle Advance Wars is even getting a second chance as well as Famicom Detective Club and even Klonoa thanks to the success of the Switch itself. Yes the Artstyle may be divisive but maybe it will grow on us and we won’t care too much about it, after all we can speed up battles.

Something you missed or didn't realise might needed mentioning... AW2 Battle Reactions. Got Flak shaking his head as though regretting whatever decision led to his bomber being shot at by anti-air. Kind of got overshadowed by mentioning the Speedup mechanic.

The trailer in the direct was absolutely crazy and knowing that the leaks were right I really hope the multi-player gets worked on, if it's amazing when it releases this game will bring a ton of new fans and veterans to the scene!
I know it sounds like a stretch but maybe this could be Advance Wars’ Awakening moment only if sales expectations are surpassed.
1:10 actually it could be his balanced version. I tried this in AW2, and there Max does 2 or 3 damage to Drake’s battleship, depending of luck. So it doesn’t 100% mean that Max will still be with his 50% bonus, but it isn’t unconfirmed either.
and it could be that he had his co power activated
I doubt this will happen, but I think a nice detail they can do for the Advance Wars 1 campaign would be when you fight the fake Sturm he has his original AW1 design, then when you fight him for real he looks like his AW2 design.
one little thing. In the 4 player vs screen, you can see that multiple players are using the same joycon, and player 2 is using their own joycon. So seems like you'd be able to do pass around mode in handheld for local FoW matches maybe?
im actually still kind of hoping that the COs will have adjusted bonuses that will be consistent across the game eras
i know we've already seen that max is retaining his aw1 bonuses but we weren't shown any of his weaknesses in effect.

If I understand this correctly, being able to switch between versions will also mean adopting the values from those games, if so then I suspect that's how it is going to be a launch witht he posibility of the game getting patched and rebalanced later down the road
Probably somebody already pointed this out but the fact that there wasn't a reference to mode on the player selection menu could mean that they are somehow balanced on versus mode. Since some CO are only available on AW2 that'd make more sense but... we'll see it on a couple o months
I’d like to think that the CO will be rebalanced for multiplayer or something.
Like AW1 Max, Hachi, Sturm, ect. will be unchanged during the campaign, but be rebalanced so multiplayer isn’t just Sturm vs Hachi every match, and they’ll buff COs like Flak, Jess, and Sonja.
yeah i'd assume the CO's would work as they normally do in the campaign but be balanced somewhat for the online multiplayer, otherwise everyone will just be playing Sturm, Hachi and Colin and AW1 Max constantly.

I am really excited for this game. However, I am worried the multiplayer won’t live up to the hype. And that’s a bigger issue because I want to show this game to more people. But it doesn’t have that same impact if the multiplayer scene is just dead (wargroove). I’m so hopeful and excited though!!!

Sturm's redesign is 40k/10
and i was alway through that Black Hole in original AW2 have protection plate that cover their wheel/track. But reboot make it clear that their vehicle are have anti gravity/hover tech build(except neo tank). So i was questioning, why other Black Hole CO vehicle other than Sturm affect by terrain movement cost if they don't have wheel/track
And i'm scary about eagle being his dual strike eagle because it makes rivals a hell to play
To be fair, that mission should still play similarly since it's AW1, but I really look forward to using Lightning Drive Eagle in AW2
Personally, I think the character designs are a pretty perfect representation of the goofiness of the series. The in-game models I do agree would be better if they were sprites, and not 3D models. However as 3D models, they fit the "toy soldier" aesthetic design perfectly. Which is kinda what they have to be, if you don't want this to be a game about mass genocide for fun.
one thing I don't like about the models is that they use the battle animation ones, meaning you might confuse some units at first glance on the map because there is no standardized sprite, I think ge recon being the most egregious
@@shinyrayquaza9 I can see it. I personally like that they look different. Makes the armies more unique when you have battle animations off. However a simple option could fix that. Honestly I hope there is an option to turn the visible grid lines off, because those are ugly.

This is the only true crime here, but I’m just happy Advance Wars along with many other long dormant IPs are getting a 2nd chance thanks to the success and popularity of the Switch, I’ll still pick it up regardless.
Yeah. My headcanon for these is that they're all playing a board game (maybe called 'Wars World 4th Edition', with AW1 being the first print, AW2 being the first revision/expansion, and AWDS being the second revision/expansion), and spicing things up with a bit of role-playing.
(As for why it's '4th edition', I would say Famicom Wars as 1st edition, Gameboy Wars as 2nd, and Super Famicom Wars as 3rd.)
Honestly? I feel like people are complaining to complain with this game. The sprites in the original games were already hard to tell apart, more difficult than the new models in fact, it's just that longtime fans have simply gotten used to them through repeated exposure. Some of the tanks were like a literal couple pixels different, and on a tiny screen. That was kinda something that held it back compared to Fire Emblem's map sprites at the same time.
The new art style will be much easier to pick up and familiarize with for a general audience. And, it captures the esthetics the original's oversimplified sprites were going for in the first place. (While it would be nice if more games had the toggle to sprite mode like DQ11, if they did just use sprites instead it would simply be a port instead of a remake and would generate less than zero buzz.)

I'm hoping they will also allow for some CO Customization like they did in the past. Kinda hoping for more than just pallet swapping. Would be nice to have some alternate outfits, and in the case of COs with accessories like Sami, alternate accessories.

That is very confusing if you switch to advance wars 2 and find out it became something else instead of the extra activation for units.

It looks like Max has two variations: Adv 1 maps 50% and Adv 2 mode 20%. I’m guessing that multiplayer will only use Adv 2 stats.
I'd think that the person creating the lobby can select the ruleset.

In the trailer in the War Room when you see the maps and the ability to turn on and off Super Co powers and Neotanks there is an icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. When that appears as the original Advance Wars logo there is no option to turn on or off Super Co Powers or Neotanks, However, when the icon flips to Advance Wars 2 then and only then does the option appear to turn on or off those things. Yet, when the icon flips the map selection does not change.
So, it appears that in the War Room you have the option to play as AW1 CO's with their original powers and no other options, but when you flip the icon to Advance Wars 2 you have the option to play with Super Co Powers and Neotanks on or off.
So this confirms that in the War Room the two games are essentially combined with the option to play as original AW1 CO's and Advance Wars 2 CO's, but when it comes to the Advance Wars 2 CO's, even those that are in the first AW, there is the option to turn on or off powers and neotanks.
And if that is the case in the War Room it might be the case in Online Multiplayer. Maybe, we do not know for sure.

Totally agree that Flak looked fantastic. I've had a bit of a mixed feel on some of the designs so far but I think I'll get used to them all. But Flak and Sturm just clicked right away. I hope they do good for my boy Adder!
"Egoraptor will voice Max" is so specific and CURSED that it was the only one that I was considering when thinking about the leak's possible validity.

It's either ugly 3D graphics or no reboot. So I'll take the first. The drawn designs are not bad either, they nailed collin at last, I still hate the dual strike design.

I don't hate the design too much to be honest, but I feel like battles (and by that I mean, engaging an unit with another) lack a bit of OOMPH!
It doesn't have the same impact when Copter's missile strike the battleship.
Hopefully the sound-effects can increase the OOMPH!, but yea visually, it's a little underwhelming.
I never knew black hole tanks were hover tanks. I always thought their tracks were covered with armor like some ww2 german tanks.
Im guessing strum in advanced wars 1 will be sturms 25% to 20% boost in attack and defense.. Thats going to be good...

@@DS-tv2fi 13 years is a long time to wait for a new Advanced Wars game. Some game series have a long time to wait for anything to come up or out.
But still would like more love than basically a remake of a Game Boy game that was only released in Japan, since that's what this reboot is about. Remaking Gameboy Advanced Wars 1+2 but for an international audience.

@@DS-tv2fi There was only 1 single game that didn't come internationally and it's got the exact same name as Re-Boot Camp, without that name.
Gameboy Advance Wars 1 + 2, and was released in Japan only in 2004.
That is basically what Re-Boot Camp is and coming out 18 years after the first Advance Wars 1 + 2 Collection.
Hyped for this game, but I'm also sad that we get the subpar Advance Wars 2 Jess instead of the juggernaut version from Dual Strike.
I hope they change the mountains to stand out a little more, they got a slight darker shade and a brown top but its still a bit hard to spot them with that neon green floor.
The Sturm glow-up has been quite the journey over the years... From silly Tako, to TechnoVader, to Warhammer 40k aesthetic.

You can change map size in the map editor (thankfully) very similar to Days of Ruin. And you can play as Black Hole on Versus mode.

Really happy they kept war room and ruleset adjustments. These were my go to places to challenge myself after I cleared the campaign.
I can't get over how hecking cute Nell is in this game.
If they make the units less... saturated and cartoon-ish, I think that would be best.
i generally dont really like that heavily exaggerated artstyle they chose for the game.
it just makes the characters look so cartoony and goofy... i really like the old artstyle that makes them look like actual people more.
same goes for units, they look more like toys than people.
but i think i'll be able to adapt to this artstyle over time.
its not going to be my favourite, but thats absolutely no reason not to play this game IMO.

BLUE MOON: Mix between USA and mainly Slavic Nations (Russia, Ucraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, etc)
YELLOW COMET: Mainly Japan and other asian countries ( China, South Korea, etc)
GREEN EARTH: Europe, Africa, Middle East
OMEGA LAND (AW Dual Strike): Australia.
BLACK HOLE: All nations (multicultural)
