Thank you for showing how you do a lesson/experiment. I contacted Berean Builders yesterday because I wanted some help deciding about next year. I will have 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th graders (plus 2 high schoolers). That’s 4 different levels, 3 levels with my middle and littles! They suggested my 7th and 8th grader work independently. We are finishing up a science we started last year and I wasn’t certain what to do next. Their reply helped me decided to get my current 6th grader Science in the Beginning and my current 7th grader Science in the Atomic Age for the rest of the year to see how independent they can get before next year. If we like this program. My 2nd and 4th grader can use Science in the Beginning next year (they love the science they are doing right now) and my 6th grader use Science in the Atomic Age. I would only have to buy Earth Science for my 8th grader. Having 2 high schoolers has shown me I want to do a lab science with my younger kids before they get to high school. I also like the rigor of Berean Builders without being overwhelming. It will definitely better prepare for high school.
I think that sounds like a GREAT plan!! And I would agree - as we’ve gotten into this curriculum more the past couple of weeks, it is definitely more rigorous, but not overwhelming. My son is working towards independence with this curriculum, we’re getting there! And thanks for sharing that thought about lab work before high school, that’s helpful and encouraging. The lab part has been hardest for my son because he’s not used to them, but I think it’s going to prepare him so well for high school work. Curious to hear what you guys think when you get started!
@ I will let you know! I have used Sonlight science (too disjointed) and God’s Design (great for upper elementary, not enough for middle school). My middle schoolers want more experiments than God’s Design includes and I want them to correlate with what they are learning which Sonlight doesn’t always do. My high schoolers used Aplogia Biology and we all 3 disliked it. They are using Berean’s chemistry this year and it’s going so much better. That is what led me down the Berean Builder rabbit trail for the rest of my children and I’ve been so impressed at what I’ve looked into.
We love burean builders. I've been using them since k. I just did an overview, the experiment, asked the questions for little understanding. I just reused them again when my child got the appropriate age. N since we used them before, they asked deeper questions or connect things.

Love this! Thanks for sharing!
Does your son like this science better than the other one he did?
After we do this one for a while, I’m curious about this too! It’s too early to tell still. I’ll keep you posted!
What a cool experiment. I learned something new. Can't wait to try this with my kids.
@alkay1774 I did too! I actually had no idea it was paper on top of M&Ms 🤯
