My first husband and I had a log and stone house built. They just did the shell. The rest was up to us and my father to complete. Such a challenging job. Nothing was plum or level. We got it done, chinking and all. It turned out beautiful if I do say so myself. We had our daughter and lived very happily for a year in our log home. Tragedy struck our lives. My husband was killed in a car accident. Due to the house being so remote and having a small child. I had to move away. I held onto the log house for a while but sadly I had to sell it. Looking good. I lived in a log cabin that was about 90 years old. It was moved from its original spot and put back up with a new massive fireplace and double loft with an arched cedar bridge between the two lofts. In the coldest part of the winter, i would fill a cast iron pan with hot coals from the fireplace and put it under the engine of the car, take my shower, and get in the car that would start as if it was 30 degrees instead of 30 below. I liked that cabin, you will enjoy yours i`m sure.
Excellent job. I've been watching the Bearded Carpenter for quite some time. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. You were wise to adopt his technique. Stay well!

BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL. I am so looking forward to seeing the finished cabin. You and your father have done a great job. Thanks for letting us be a part of the experience. ❤👍
The trowel you are using. Makes a great spatula. My grandfather bought my grandmother on in the 50s. She used it 40 plus years. Before it wore out. Nothing worked like it making fried potatoes in a cast iron skillet
Hi Outsider: I chinked my log cabin around 1965 using a shovel, sweat board & dry cement with sand.& some lime for whitening. 60 years later I have not had to repair it once. I've always attributed our success to the metal lathing I applied first. Ibelive that it allowed the filler to withstand the stresses of time & annual, seasonal temperature change. Stay safe Brian 81
Wow you obviously did a good job of it! I agree that the metal lath is a game changer for chinking. It gives the mortar a proper backbone to resist cracking and crumbling over time. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience, my friend. 👍🙂
Can I ask if you have the ratio of dry cement and sand and how much lime? My log home was built in 1980. The chinking is falling apart. The metal lath is still intact. Would you recommend to just chink over the existing metal lath? Thank you.
We both very much enjoy watching your progress on your cabin build from the start. It is great to see you working with your dad and the way you explain your steps. After watching the video on the security of your loss of firewood, we reached out to Simplisafe but we told they do support the monitoring in Ontario. It is unfortunate as the system does appeal to us.

Great job and very helpful to many. Just as a footnote I’m totally happy with my Simply Safe system. Easy to install and coverage for almost any need. Only issue with it was when I sold the property the new owners wanted it so I included it in the deal. Now I need to get a new system for my new home. Thanks for the build series and God bless.
Very happy for you and your father to reach this point. Summer should provide ample time to finish the interior and give thought to first family meals inside.

I'm so glad it will be all dried in before winter! Hopefully you can get enough of the supplies for the winter interior projects delivered to the cabin before the snow returns... God bless you guys!
I have been following you since you start build your cabin and it's a lot of work you have done but you have done a great job to your cabin. You still young man and there are long life for you to enjoy your new cabin my friend.
The deer walking in the grass at the very beginning. I immediately thought of Bambi’s mom walking out into the meadow!! Bambi, “The meadow!!” Then of course she gets shot so I guess not a good thing.
😄 Yeah meadows are generally risky for deer, unless they have several on lookout, or if the grass is tall. The only reason why I saw the doe there was because I was tall enough to see over the grass. A coyote wouldn't have seen her there.

The trowel you are using. Makes a great spatula. My grandfather bought my grandmother on in the 50s. She used it 40 plus years. Before it wore out. Nothing worked like it making fried potatoes in a cast iron skillet
I really like that live edge siding you did to the roof gables...looks really nice and professional. God Bless!
Longer videos please, I'm so excited and addicted to your videos . Be safe and well.
Hello Outsider Love the cabin I have done the same kind of work here in the States and its rewarding thank you for the Bearded Carpenter as well I will check him out
God Bless!!! It is really starting to come together in An AMAZING way!!! I pray you and your family have an awesome fathers day!!!! P,S, HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!
I just saw a video of yours, realised it was 8 years ago, so looked to see if you were still doing outdoor things. Then I saw these! It’s a mansion!
You have an awesome dad! I had an awesome dad but I'm much older than you.
Great job! Looking forward to see the next episode! Hugs from Greece.
Such a beautiful job you and your dad have done thus far on the cabin. The chinking job was awesome and I’m sure others will benefit by you sharing.
Wow. That step was patiently awaited. The cabin is beautiful in every step. Pray for health for your family and completion of this soon. Amazing to have watches this grow over the years. Great job!!!
Paint makes us all good welders. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and willingness to try something new.
That mortar color really looks good against those logs. Well done!
Hello from Pennsylvania! Another interesting video. Nice to see your dad still working side by side with you. That chinking really makes those logs "POP". Can't wait to see what comes next.
Thank You For The Knowledge That You Share...
& I Just Love Your Voice It's So Calming❤
I'm luvin the look of your cabin, well done Pops & the Kid!!!
You and your father have built a beautiful log cabin, I must say I'm thankful you did not put a triangular window on the gable end. Happy camping.
I really enjoy watching y'all building the cabin. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the beauty of nature with us. God Bless y'all 🙏✌❤🤗
Simply enthralling. I could watch and listen to your videos all day long. Stay safe out there.
I love your “fix it when you find it broken “ approach.
Very happy for you and your father to reach this point. Summer should provide ample time to finish the interior and give thought to first family meals inside.
You and dad are doing a magnificent job...loved seeing the chinking done, you explaining the how's and why's and then seeing you accomplishing the chinking. Praying for continued good health for all of you. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and keep dry.
Thank you very much! 🙂🙏
@@TheOutsiderCabin you are so welcome, I think about your wife and keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm so glad it will be all dried in before winter! Hopefully you can get enough of the supplies for the winter interior projects delivered to the cabin before the snow returns... God bless you guys!
Thank you for showing me the Bearded Carpenter Chanel. Good job.
Well done! You and your father deserve massive kudos for all the work you put into chinking. Thank you for sharing the journey with all of us. Peace!!
