I love that he hasn't lost his love for gaming. Watching him play the zapper game, the look of pure childlike joy on his face was so wholesome! I think after all this time most people likely would have turned too corporate to enjoy that, but that's what makes him unique!
This looks like an amazing place. If I ever go to Japan, this would definitely be on my to do list. It was honestly so wholesome seeing Mayamoto do the introductory tour, how he fondly remembers being a part of Nintendo’s history, and just how good he still is at many of the games. It was also a great touch to build the museum on the site of the original factory.
It was on my to do list in October but unfortunately I wasn’t picked in the draw. 😕 I can only admire the grey building from the outside. The cafe & shop is only for ticket holders & there are no visitor areas for those without tix. At least have an outdoor decorated area & a cafe and shop for anyone to visit. Probably the unfriendliest museum ever 😢
Seeing two of the staff struggling with waving a giant Wiimote is hilarious!!!! Also the only museum I know of with a shooting gallery and baseball pitcher. And those singing Toads are the icing on the cake
I've actually gone to real life baseball pitching places (thought expensive) and I've come across shooting galleries at carnivals and state fairs before, even one at the Spiral tower in Niagara Falls but that one was broken at the time. If you have ever played on rail shooters/carnival games on the WIi or the shooting game from Wii Play, this is right up your alley.

I visited Japan in 2014 and visited Nintendo headquarters. I knew there was nothing to do there, but wanted to visit the building as I've been a lifelong fan. Security guards immediately rushed out to chase me away but my friend who spoke Japanese told the guards I just wanted to visit and take a photo with the sign - which I did and treasure to this day. I wish this museum was open back then, finally a spot in Kyoto for fans to congregate 😊
I did this way back in 2007 after Kotaku posted a vaguely worded article on how to find the building. No one was there to chase me off thankfully, but it was neat to see in person, even if it was just an outside of a building. Now I have an excuse to go back to Kyoto AND go see the building again (so they can direct me to the actual museum).

This is amazing! The fact they encourage people to play together, even in a museum, is exactly what Nintendo stands for! I bet Iwata would have loved this if was still here. Keep up the excellent work Nintendo, thank you for the years of fun.
Thank you for making this museum Nintendo. Please, I pray, keep your spirit and remain the company you are with the philosophy you have. One day, if lucky, I shall visit this special place and I look forward to tjis moment from the bottom of my heart. All the best for your next console!!!!
Nintendo deserves this Museum and you can see the Joy in Miyamotos face when he gets to use everything. I'll probably make sure to give it a visit in the future
Genuinely, that was one of the coolest museum tours. Heck, the coolest gaming museum I've seen. Absolutely love the non-game/game history and the interactive games. Definitely on my list of places to visit if i ever make it to Japan!
I genuinely hope I get to go here one day. Maybe not right when it opens up but sometime in the future. It feels amazing to be a NINTENDO fan these days.
Out of the respect for Nintendo's golden history and personal nostalgia, this is one reason that makes me wish I've lived in Japan. It just resonates so many happy memories I've had with family and friends.
Japan is not a good place to actually live, it's the kind of place you stay for a week, see the sights and have fun experiences and then leave. Or so I've heard, I've always thought the same way as you.
@@RedTHedge For an American it's probably not a good place to live. A completely different culture to ours and different laws. For a Japanese person who lived there their entire life, it's normal to them. They are part of the culture and help make it.
@@MeeBacon While you see right and part of the reason would be culture shock, there are a lot of valid reasons not to be there. In fact most people that have told me or said publicly it's not the best place are Japanese people living in Japan. So I'd assume they're right since they actually live there.
I love how Nintendo’s creative process goes into everything they touch. Playing games with a large controller made with 2 or more people in mind is such a genius idea for interactivity in this museum, considering each of Nintendo’s home consoles have their own hook that makes them stand out. Utilizing each system like this is such a clever way to pay homage to the company’s history of consoles. Praying the stateside version comes soon. 😭
People at Nintendo basically just think “I wish I could do this” and make something that allows them to. I’m sure they thought “man, museums sure are boring”, and went from there lol. They don’t limit themselves and aren’t scared to break the standards, or even objects! as you can see in the baseball activity.
I do think what they should include is a memorial for all of the staff and crew that at one point worked with Nintendo, hosted competitions with Nintendo, and many people both online and in real life whom made Gaming with Nintendo what it is today. Especially listing the photos of the presidents/CEOs of Nintendo from the very first one to the previous presidents will help people understand how the great leaders at Nintendo helped swim the tides for what would be an ever-changing rapid tech developing world that we can't imagine having it go this fast without some sort of origin thanks to electronic games of the 1940s and 1950s.
This is awesome! It's almost like someone heard my reservations about visiting Japan, worrying there wouldn't be enough that would interest me beyond shopping to make it worth the trip, and said, "I know just what ought to do the trick."
I really want to visit Japan now. This looks so cool, especially the giant controllers you can use to play games like Super Mario Bros. and Wii Sports Resort.

They were one of the first form of arcade games. Very early "light guns" setup in old bowling alleys that had closed, that they renovated to become "indoor shooting galleries", that used fake guns. Back then, there was no laws against making toys that look exactly like real guns, so yeah.

I've always heard people say that Nintendo doesn't care about their history or their older products, so glad they obviously listened and disproved that to an extent with this beautiful museum and homage to their previous systems and games. Very nice to see, and thank you for the video tour!
The fact they would rather put these games in a museum rather than sell them via Virtual Console just makes it so much more frustrating to me. The toy stuff is cool though.
@@BJGvideos Wouldn't it be nice if after a certain point in time, let's be very generous and say 30 years after release, games automatically became part of the public domain?

If you have ever played on rail shooters/carnival games on the WIi or the shooting game from Wii Play, this is right up your alley.
this made me a bit emotional. seeing their history and them celebrating it with this museum is so heart warming. i will always love Nintendo. ❤

Thank goodness ur friend was there :D
I did this way back in 2007 after Kotaku posted a vaguely worded article on how to find the building. No one was there to chase me off thankfully, but it was neat to see in person, even if it was just an outside of a building. Now I have an excuse to go back to Kyoto AND go see the building again (so they can direct me to the actual museum).
