    Shared with my Marine son.
This is probably 1 good reason not to go out & about in uniform where these types of businesses can really target you.

The haircut and shave is enough to give you away. Any locals will spot you from a mile away in uniform or not, especially scammers!
Still though there is that off chance that they might miss you, so good advice nonetheless.

Easy to pick out even in their civilian attire. My son brought over his friends from SOI and sure enough, the baseball caps, jeans, tshirt and hoodies were a dead give away to their true identity. Like Clark Kent with his glasses. Baseball caps.

Luckily athough the current hair styles may not be high & tight but they are short on the sides. A little easier to blend in than when I was in. Problem though. Marines have that certain walk. That's a giveaway.

I remember off post of Fort Lewis, Washington those places that sells electronics TV & stereos. They want to see your LES form to see how long you have left in the military to finance you a deal b4 your ETS date. By the time you pay it off, you could had really bought 4 televisions with the money you finance it with.

When I was in Camp Pendleton, a PFC and his wife were picked up by shady dealership on a Saturday morning and were hassled, by salesmen and they kept ganging up on them and they had to make a run for the bus stop. That place tried to get them into a POS on its last leg.
    Be careful, take an NCO.

I was stationed at Camp Pendleton Camp Horno 3/1 Kilo Co from 1977-1979. Oceanside was full of prostitutes MP’s and drunk Marines. My Marine buddies told me Oceanside for the most part has changed for the better. I hung out a lot at San Clemente California.

That first jewelry store actually tried to get me to buy stuff from them. I knew what they were up to so I sat there and waisted 2 hours of these peoples time. They were so excited and thought they got me until I stood up and told them I’m good I just wanted to waist your time. They were talking about when they were in the military and so on.

I seen this shit all the time when I was at 32nd st. The one I remember the most was when I was walking back to my ship and these two sexy ass girls came and started walking on either side of me trying to have a conversation. I knew they wanted something, but I talked to them anyways just to test to see if they were going to try to scam me on a car. Which is exactly what they tried to do.
In Horton Plaza there is a veteran owned jewelry store that tries to get service members into a pyramid scheme. So one day I was shit faced drunk and went in to listen to their hour long introduction about the whole scheme, I asked as many questions as I could to waste as much of their time as possible and then I didn't sign their paperwork at the end. Guy was super pissed that I didn't sign it even though the first thing I told him as soon as he tried to pull me into the scheme that I'm not signing for shit.
I did the same thing to the church of scientology but I was FAR drunker for that one.
Pretty much my go to thing to do on liberty was to get extremely wasted, skateboard, and troll scammers out in town by wasting as much time of theirs as possible because it's fucking hilarious to me.

Thank you for the straight talk and words of wisdom. Yup, over the decades, Marines were easy to pick out based on their muscle cars and now motorcycles ( jock rockets). I grew up in Oceanside/Vista as a Marine brat. I've seen a lot of changes on Coast Hwy. (used to be called Hill Street but name changed to help clean up it's old infamous image). My son just finished training at SOI-ITB and said that a lot of young Marines were spending their $ and liberty time visiting a particular well-known massage parlor.🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️ Other than that, the Main Attraction strip club has gone out of business, but it was only a matter of time. Tourist stop/Family friendly In-N-Out burger was strategically built across the street. 😅 Fortunately, my son heard a lot of stories from Grandpa (30+ yrs. USMC vet) about what he warned his young Marines when they went out on liberty. Again, thank you for giving an updated version of what our young and sometimes naive Marines need to be aware of these days.

Definitely some good advice, brother. Had a friend at MOS school in Camp Lejeune get scammed into signing up for "Life Insurance" right outside a Taco Bell. He wasn't the smartest tool in the shed (as shown by signing something from a guy outside a Taco Bell), but I told him it's not even necessary, we're automatically enrolled in a $400k policy when we join. Thankfully he was able to get out of it when the scammer was confronted. Watch yourselves out there, as well as for your fellow comrads.

WOW! Good ole Ocean Slime is still in business! Back track this video 30 years ago when I was a young Marine. What a shit hole. The old Movie place was still alive with nothing but XXX neon lights. you couldnt walk down the street without be accosted to buy cameras, and electronics. They had one ALL Nude "juice bar" strip joint that a lot of newbies dropped the money at. It was sad, some of us had "street smarts" back then and tried to warn other young Marines, but JAG was busy 24/7 back in the day.. THe only thing we used to go into Ocean side for was the cheap and good Embroidery work. Gotta get that Boot Jacket Tight! LOL

This was a trip in the way way WAY back machine for me. I was stationed there from '93-'97. Coast Hwy was called Hill st. When I was in soi the base CG made Hill st. off limits to EVERYONE due to several armed robberies and several shootings involving marine victims. That place was a hell hole. I went there for the cheep haircuts and low cost dry cleaning. Then got suckered in to some of the seedier establishments and barely made back to base alive due to A LOT of luck. Fun times. Whole lot of stories that I will never tell my mother about. Great vid, Keep 'em coming.

Look up hopcc Christian in UA-cam my dumbass was trying to find God and I thought I'd find it there because I got a invite at the right time, as time went on it with the way they practice the Bible is really radical but I was wondering why they had so many houses we would have prayer meetings at these houses none of them were owned by the members themselves they were all owned by the church, there was 5 in my town alone about a new and expensive houses in Washington State and I would say about 80% of their members are either current or former military in the majority of their target recruitment is on Fort Lewis Washington for the Washington churches in Lacey and Tacoma, the church owns its own seminary college that is GI Bill compatible led by Pastor Dennis the leader of the organization whose worth about 48 million dollars, they rope in young military service members they specifically Target the really young guys as pretty much everybody who was new to the church was around 18, they bring in the young guys get them really deep into the faith then encourage them to go to the Seminary school and then take the money they get and buy real estate they don't talk or listen to anybody outside the church rather than blow the whistle I just got the f*** out of there because people more powerful have tried in Georgia, where the church was first founded it is currently led by Pastor Dennis, the community in Georgia have been protesting for years against this church however they get some sort of protection as a religious organization.

Might be a myth, but I’ve heard First Command has some undercover “scams” that target younger service members that have less financial experience. Has anyone had any experience with that organization that could weigh in on whether or not this is true? Personally, I’ve been getting offers from them to set up a financial plan with them and am getting the feeling I shouldn’t.
