I just found your podcast on Spotify and heard you mention this in one of your earlier episodes. Struggling at the driving range yesterday with a new driver I gave this a try and I almost can’t believe it’s this easy. It immediately fixed a high uncontrollable fade/slice and turns it into a straight shot/slight draw, I feel like my grip is excessively strong to “feel” like I’m driving a nail but I’m not sure I care to be honest as the control and confidence is so much higher.
Awesome drill. I've been testing it out nailing the ball more to the right to correct my out to in swing, and I'm producing much better ball striking and better smash factor. It's even working well with my long irons, which I've always had trouble with.

I am a teaching professional and even I have gotten really discouraged at times working with my mentor discussing how to shallow the swing path and avoid my dreaded over the top move. Everyone is different in how they learn and apply things. And someone that gets overwhelmed easily but is naturally talented, this can work wonders. I always want my students to understand cause and effect such that they are able to understand what is happening when they hit the ball various ways. Otherwise, they can’t discern what’s going on in their swing causing the desired or undesired results. But keeping things as simple as possible is something I am always looking to do. For me personally, I am able to visualize the nail and its all I need to drastically change my swing path to get my desired results! Thanks for your help! I will pass this on as well! Cheers

Adam - wow.....light bulb just went off....ding....ding....ding. I am thinking that when practicing on the range, just use the labeling/stripes on the ball as the "nail". Then you set up the ball a few degrees right/left/center and use that as your alignment "nail". Excellent teaching on how to see shot shapes via true cause and effect application.

To me, this is pure gold! You really advocate simplicity Adam (which is a very, very, very good thing for us amateur golfers) and I am really looking forward to practise my instincts to shape shot during winter.

That said, the one thing that took a little more time was engraining that ball position needs to shift a little bit as well, forward or back depending on path. Also, I have a tendency to address the ball naturally with my shoulders a bit more open, so sometimes a 'neutral' shot for me turns into a pull hook. What's cool, though, is that even if you set-up at crazy angles, you can make your body respond to the nail and produce a different shape than what the set-up appears to suggest.

The line on the ball can be adjusted in or out to provide a great visual aid to the driver swing path. With irons, find a spot just in front of the ball along the line you want to swing. This also helps with ball-turf contact.

It might. It depends on how you change the face. Most people will send the face more right as they change the path with this drill. However, it will usually not be a 1:1. I'd start out by closing the face at address, then gripping, then focus on the nail drill until you start to see a nice draw shot. Then adjust the face back to a less closed position as needed.
This is really good stuff man . Scrapping ball cover out of the 6 iron after implementing this into my swing downstairs after watching a AJ Bonar video. Had to search for more people with a total breakthrough with this method. Makes me feel like a little kid just smacking the crap out of the ball. Trying to teach this to my son but he is very stubborn as he is only 8. Wonder if you still use this method till this day??
Adam ty your an excellent teacher,, talking about the draw I personally think it's an ugly shaped shot I much rather hit a cut or fade it's a very pretty shot I know you lose distance but Iam really not concerned with distance right now at my age 55 yrs old!!!! I think course management is the most important perst of my game ,,,I've learned to lay up and hit a wedge into green and give up one stroke maybe lol I might knock it close enough for a one putt lol !! Anyway ty so much for your knowledge second to none!! Stay safe,,,,,
Great video. I don't care what swing path I achieve either, but I would sure love to hit my 6 iron more than 130 yards on average. Your half swing shots are going 180+. That's the secret I need.
Lots of factors go into distance. Speed will be the biggest determinant, but then strike quality and afec to path and spin loft are other contributors.
I have a similar thought when hitting. The only difference is I picture a bent nail with the intent of straightening it into the ball, so I can close or open my face to the path.
No offense, but you're talking about what YOU do in the video, but I was hoping to learn HOW to do it other than visualization. You mentioned a drill, but I never heard anything drill instructions.

I like the nail visual. What about marking a line around the ball and pointing it the direction you like to swing through?
