737 vs A320 - Allegiant Air's Boeing Order

  • In 2022, Allegiant Air announced an order for the Boeing 737 MAX, which saw them switch to the American plane maker from Airbus. But why did the airline switch towards Boeing-powered aircraft when it could've continued its focus on the A320 family? Today, I analyse the decision and why Boeing emerged as a more compelling option.

    I believe Allegiant airlines will stick with Boeing and the MAX-7 order. They've worked with Airbus for a quite a while with the A319/A320 series aircraft, but I think they found a situation that makes sense with Boeing as of late. The positive news for Boeing is that most likely, the 737 MAX-7 series airplanes will be certified as soon as late next year hopefully. The delivery slots could also benefit Allegiant airlines. The MAX-10 would hopefully follow shortly thereafter.

    So, delivery dates are now hurting Airbus A320neo orders.

    • @patrickpeters2903
      @patrickpeters2903 7 місяців тому +5

      absolutely....marketing mix takes into account the availability of the product....Airbus didn't believe the A320/321 NEO could be so popular. And today the B737 MAX can benefit from the A320/321 enormous backlog. The risk for Airbus is more order cancellations due to the very long delivery times. Several years can be a big and impossible hurdle for some airlines. EMIRATES is a good example too....

    I think the time-to-delivery factor may have been weighing on their minds, in addition to the generous discounts they probably received. If the JetBlue-Spirit merger goes through and Spirit goes away, then it will create a big hole in the American ultra-low-cost market, which Allegiant and Frontier (and others) will expand quickly to fill. (Not to mention that the no-frills segment is the fastest-growing market in commercial aviation.)

    Why do you applaud , and praise an airline when it goes and switches alliance from one manufacturer ;..(Boeing) to (Airbus) ;
    Yet question and try to make excuses when it's the other way around ..

    When leaving behind 'feelings' about these products the differences that matter are clear. Airbus A320 has the fly-by-wire system that is easily upgradable and compatible between all Airbus planes and upgradable well into 2060s.
    Boeing 737 has an older airframe but more importantly analog avionics that can't be upgraded after the MAX series and are not interchangeable between any other Boeing planes.

    I think alot of people seem to think Allegiant is abandoning Airbus. Theyre not. They're still buying used A320s off other airlines. The growth they want to experience needs more aircraft, and they have to pounce on the current demand. Can't keep waiting around and lose their momentum/routes to other ULCC especially with the growth of Avelo, maybe some Breeze.
    Old Airbus will be phased out in the current fleet since they are getting quite old, but they won't stop buying used aircraft.

    For Allegiant airline, lower cost is the most important factor. Delivery slots are important too. But it also reflects that Allegiant did not make an order decision in time. Airbus backlog is pretty well known in the industry. Boeing has similar issues with its wide body delivery schedule.

    Money is the main underlying factor behind this deal. Allegiant brokered a deal that was too good for them to turn down, and well done to them. Understandably, Allegiant can get 737 Max sooner than Airbus càn supply neos. A no brainer for Allegiant when you weigh it all up

    Surely it's pretty simple. Boeing shares are not what they were before, the reputation of Boeing products are not what they were and therefore the purchase price will be far lower than Airbus.
    Boeing have all but iced R&D, they need the cash and orders so may have dropped their pants to get orders. Alliegent maybe taking the Ryanair approach of purchasing a "failing" product due to it being so much cheaper than the current flagship manufacturer.
