@Cookie Pizza Indeed, feeding waterfowl bread - especially when they're young - has a good chance of permanently crippling their wings and making them unable to fly. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_wing
His little face did not "light up" calm down. Ducks and Geese don't have these distinguishing features to where you can tell if they "lit up" when they saw a person. That one did appear excited because it immediately ran towards the human with its wings spread out as if to take flight but its face looked as normal as any other duck or goose. If you're going to give human attributes to animals at least do it correctly and respect the animal otherwise be quiet because you sound ignorant

Aww. My goose used to do this as a gosling whenever she'd see me. She's also a white goose. She's an adult now and the sounds she makes sounds like a swingset. Whenever she sees me, she makes loud swingset noises and when I go outside she rushes over excited.

I used to have a rooster I named Carl. Carl was very friendly, and in fact I've managed to teach him to come towards me if I whistle. He would always jump out of the chicken area, followed by one hen I decided to call Bonnie cos those two were partners in crime. Once Carl aged a little he became much more mature and would rarely jump over the fence. He was a really good rooster, taking great care of the hen with finding little snacks for them and calling them in to eat and making sure no hen stayed out for the night. We couldn't keep him, but in the end I ensured that instead of becoming soup he will move to my grandfather who at this point barely even had hens to speak of because they all ran off to the neighbors. After Carl's arrival over half of the lost hens came back in the first week. I occasionally go there, and I always make sure to feed him some dog food from hand (his favourite).
My roaster in the other hand loves chasing people, He chased my little brother to tears and never backs down even my sister tried to scare it away with a stick Now both of them are scared of him. Hahaha

I think it is utterly charming how his parents are suddenly concerned for him & start running after him, not unlike a mother whose child slips her hand, but stop when when they realise he is not in danger. What a lovely moment to capture on film. Thank you for sharing it. ♥️ 🦆🦆🦆
This made me unbelievably happy to watch…I had a goose when I was younger who I raised and basically became the surrogate mother of. She would see me from across the yard and do this same hurried little waddle with her wings outstretched and flapping, honking in excitement to reach me. Let me tell you, this is EXACTLY what happiness is!
I think it was in a book called "Ring of Bright Water" that I read 50 years ago about a guy in Scotland and an rescued otter, that he calls a bunch of geese out of the air. He lived on a wild patch of west Scottish coastline and geese used to flock there in summer and fly south in winter. One year the weather was so stormy that the younger geese could not fly and they got stuck there. He built them a shelter and looked after them through the winter and as the weather warmed up they joined their normal flock again. Some time after that he was sailing along the coast and pulled up on a small island where some people had motored and were having a picnic. As they were talking he saw a flock of geese coming over the water and he called to them. It turned out they were 'his' geese and they landed and walked around him calling to him. He says in the book something along the lines of, 'those picnic people must have thought they'd come across some local wizard who can call birds out of the air.'
Me, too. I had put my two goslings outside to spend some time in the yard, picking the grass, etc. Had to go inside for a couple of minutes, and I left them outside, thinking I'd be right back outside. They disappeared, and I was going around my yard and my neighbor's yard, looking for them. As soon as I spotted them in the neighbor's yard, I called to them, and they did the same thing that Sam did, as soon as they realized it was me calling them.
I've had this happen to me with a family of Canadian geese at a local park. Eleven goslings and the two parents. I had been hand feeding them every other day since the goslings were very young. Then I couldn't make it to the park for about two months and when I showed up again I sat down a little distance from them because I wasn't sure they would recognize me but when they saw me, all of them came running to me wth their little wings spread out and screaming. It was a great experience beening recognized and having them all gathered around me. Even the parents trusted me around their babies and would eat out of my hand, too. And no, I didn't give them bread to eat. I gave bird seed, sometimes meal worms. Bread is really bad for birds and can cause serious health issues. Another great thing was that there were several people watching this and the looks on their faces was priceless. I guess some people are afraid of geese, which I could never understand because they don't have teeth nor a sharp beak so they can't hurt you.
we made friends with a goose, he always recognized us even over a year later.... he was so attached, he tried to get in the car with us when we left . i was scared of him at first he was sooo big,, and kept pecking but my husband just grabbed him at the beginning and made friends with him.... he kept persistently coming around even though i didn't want him but i learned that he just wanted hugs... he stopped pecking when he realized that it wasn't a thing humans liked, (geese like it for grooming) and would just come stand nearby waiting to be hugged and petted. he couldn't get enough cuddles. i have rarely seen an animal outside of cats and dogs so willing to just throw themselves at people. i thought it was only cats that understand what a sucker i am for them, most random cats in the street seem to know immediately what i am, and just throw themselves at my feet for petting. if i pass a strange cat without petting, it will just blink at me like what ?
"he stopped pecking when he realized that it wasn't a thing humans liked, (geese like it for grooming)" Wait, so geese are just trying to be nice to people and getting a bad name?!
You'd be surprised to know that many animals loves getting pets and behave exactly like dogs/cats. For example : cows, dolphins, goats, pigs, etc.. It's sad we treat them horribly and kill many of these animals to satisfy our taste buds.
A lot of birds do. I had a tiny little Japanese Silkie hen sit an Americana egg. The chick grew literally four times the size of the mama bird she imprinted on and would follow that little hen everywhere.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw Mr Peepers, the duck I raised, at the wildlife sanctuary after my parents made me give him up. Ran up me to just like this and cried his head off. Beautiful creatures.
Agreed! Coming home to see my cat's little face peeking out the bedroom window at me and the minute I open the door she's right there welcoming me home. Best part of my day as well.😊

This is such a lovely story, chickens are the best
My roaster in the other hand loves chasing people,

These are the quiet moments we stay alive for. Beautiful.
Local wizard. LOL. Thanks for sharing
Oh, I think the book was made into a movie where the otter came to an untimely end.... It scarred me for life 😩

i can sooo relate! I used to raise the goslings at my parents' farm when i was young, the cutest animals ever.
What happend after you raised them? They went to gosling university and lived happily ever after, I guess?

@@dickswingston8854 lmao that’s dumb. They obviously went to another farm across the the country where they could play and be free 24/7

The parents running after it melted my heart.
There's something so pure and honest about how he runs joyfully - spreading the little wings :))
animals are so pure
we made friends with a goose, he always recognized us even over a year later....
he was so attached, he tried to get in the car with us when we left .
i was scared of him at first
he was sooo big,,
and kept pecking
but my husband just grabbed him at the beginning and made friends with him....
he kept persistently coming around even though i didn't want him
but i learned that he just wanted hugs...
he stopped pecking when he realized that it wasn't a thing humans liked,
(geese like it for grooming)
and would just come stand nearby
waiting to be hugged and petted.
he couldn't get enough cuddles.
i have rarely seen an animal outside of cats and dogs
so willing to just throw themselves at people.
i thought it was only cats that understand what a sucker i am for them,
most random cats in the street seem to know immediately what i am,
and just throw themselves at my feet for petting.
if i pass a strange cat without petting,
it will just blink at me like what ?
Aww that’s so adorable! I suddenly want a pet goose 😭
Then there are Canada geese. There’s a reason they’re nicknamed cobra chickens
"he stopped pecking when he realized that it wasn't a thing humans liked, (geese like it for grooming)"

You'd be surprised to know that many animals loves getting pets and behave exactly like dogs/cats. For example : cows, dolphins, goats, pigs, etc.. It's sad we treat them horribly and kill many of these animals to satisfy our taste buds.

Let’s not underestimate how smart animals are they have emotions like us
Nothing to do with emotions, it thought there was food.
When people think they will get gifts, free stuff they are also fired up with emotions
They have emotions, but not like us. The human brain is way more advanced than people give it credit for.
And do not underestimate the ability of the brain to project things which aren't there
