Honestly, on my old potato of a PC and my 17“ CRT monitor I never looked upwards because the framerate would tank… dunno why. Nice to see the whole thing
Ohhh man, this brought back some memories! We used to get SO lost in here but the Princess boss and big room with waterfalls were so epic. Dungeons were like mini-raids in Vanilla they were so long.
Just completed my first full mara run the other day, though I had partially experienced it back in the initial Classic run. Interesting to see everything in context since I'm usually too busy trying to keep up with a group in dungeons to fully get my bearings.
Maraudon is such an amazingly designed dungeon. I still remember the first time going through all the corrupted caverns with mutated plants and slime everywhere and suddenly entering this beautiful area with clear blue waterfalls open to the sky. It really made a big impression.
This was so interesting, I never thought about how cool Maraudon actually is since I really only ever played Wrath of the lich king and so I never really got to appreciate the instance because of how random dungeon finder splits it up into Purple, Orange and 'Pristine Waters' where the norm is to just speedrun to the boss that gives you the RDF reward and then leave without exploring the inbetweens of the different areas. Loved this video, definitely want to see more stuff like this with all the huge dungeons from vanilla
4:54. I run a lot of D&D, and I gotta say, the worldbuilding and dungeon design of vanilla WoW is some of the best D&D I’ve seen. These stories - like this one about Maraudon - are so cool. A demigod births centaurs who killed him, and now his earth mother wife is on a rampage? That is some dream logic mythic storytelling right there. I love it.
These classic exploration videos are exactly what Ive been looking for. Really hits the spot. I subbed as soon as I saw you had a Zulfarrak one - before I even watched it! Great work!
Excellent explanation man. Whenever I go back into Mara I'll pull this back up because I've always been confused by this dungeon. I look forward to more videos exactly like this! Subscribed.
Thank you for this video. Mauradon is my favourite dungeon in the game. It feels mysterious and forgotten, but it's also beautiful and atmospheric. It reminds me of shadow of the colossus, rayman 3, and all that PS2 era goodness. I have so many good memories from the epic hours long journeys in confused LFG groups fighting through these classic dungeons, like dire maul, mauradon, and BRD when I first started playing back in wrath.
I love these map video's so much. WoW has such cool dungeon map layouts. Doing one of BRD seems like it would be tough lol alot of layers to that thing
I watched the dead mines video first, and instantly thought “ oh a Mara vid would be dope “ . I really enjoy this content. If you would make a video for most of the iconic dungeons or even all of them I know I would watch
Could you do a short vid where you overlay Maraudon, connected with the entrance map, on top of the zone map, properly scaled? I measured out where that waterfall area was, using such crude tools as were available, and came up with somewhere offshore of that Troll fishing village. You no doubt have long since noticed that there is NO corresponding area in Desolace to that waterfall area. No canyons / deep gashes, especially with rivers or lakes and trees. A similar vid exploring Deeprun Tram might be fun. It runs E-W, to connect cities located NE-SW of each other?? Also, if you do that on foot, and look back towards Stormwind once you reach the 'aquarium' area, you can see *buildings* in the distance! Are those really in the model, or are we actually seeing out of the tunnel?
Yeah mang, it's been a while since I played, but Maraudon was HUGE. Then we killed Princess Theradras at the end. Then a couple expansions later we met her mother the Queen in the underground zone - and she eyeballs you closely as though you remind her of descriptions of the perpetrator that killed her daughter. Masterful storytelling. Bruh I am not even 3 minutes into the video yet but this memory just came tumbling back in. Sorry if you mentioned it already 😂😂
But if he becomes even remotely successful at youtube then he'll devolve into a reaction channel who complains about the algorithm. Once you find a loyal audience it becomes hard to lose it. Let's hope this never takes off.
This video is really cool :D. I also loved that you added all the information about quests you could do there. The last time i properly visited desolace was many years ago. I think i should go back there and quest through the whole zone again. Either many of those Mauradon quests were removed after cataclysm or i missed them entirely. I also never saw Mauradon from the outside. I think the only way this could have been better is when you would put a few screenshots of the questgivers or items in to the video. like when you talk about the scepter and teleportation room. It would be neat to see that. But this is not necessary :D. Again i really enjoyed the video.
Hey - Can't thank you enough for this comment. Really good feedback; especially the suggestions on screenshots. going to keep that in mind for future vids. THANK YOU!
On the righthand side, staying on the outside the whole time was a bit confusing. It would be dope if you could poke a hole into the 3rd person outside perspective to see it all from above. I have not idear how you would do it, but it would be cool if you could! At any rate, great content ^^ thank you!
12:37 damn i never knew that theres a side path next to the waterfall jump :O love maraudon for its hugeness, you know its a proper dungeon if u can get lost in it even after like 50 run :D
Great video! please make one with differences between Old Ruins of Andorhal with walls, versus the new one without. I got fond memories early vanilla about the old one. I was really disappointed it was changed.
If you could add an arrow or other indicator (other than the mouse cursor) to indicate on the model view, that would help with spacial position understanding.
And maybe have a removable top half of the model section to always be able to see the floor instead of it being hidden by the ceiling and having to clip into it to see.
I remember the day the Maraudon Patch dropped…. Damn, I am old. I really like those old vanilla dungeons. They feel like an actual dungeon nothing designed for M+
Running this place back in the day would take HOURS, and that's assume that you didn't get lost. Remember, there were no maps of instances back in Vanilla.
This is one of my favorite instances in classic. Sad it is just below the lvl cap, so no endgame content to farm in there. But this is also what it makes so cool. Sort of a lost place in an mmorpg…
This is a great question. In the wow.export program I'm using you can zoom in and out of the model seeing both sides, but there is no way to remove the top, which would be very interesting. You can also export the model into Blender, where you could do any type of edit, removing any portion.
3:22 Dude never played vanilla wow it seems xD Back in vanilla wow you could blink through an instance whirl without being teleported. There was a huge hidden area when you did that in Deadmines and used slow fall, you got to an exploitable area. In general there were a ton of these out of bounds exploits in vanilla, like GM Island, dancing troll village, Hyjal before it's release and so on. Most of the time only mages could get there with blink because they could blink through invisible walls. Which has now been fixed.
Yea, I'm alliance for sure, but need to try to better balanced what I show for Horde friends. I completely botched Horde landmarks in my map video. So is WC the most confusing?
@@720zone yep, WC is by far more confusing than maraudon. I’ve been through it at least 15 times and still have no idea which path leads where. You can be looking directly at a map, looking at your mini-map at the same time, know exactly where you are and STILL not know how to get where you want
Oh man the BRD walkthrough is going to be 2 hours long and I’m all for it!
YES!! Appreciate you checking in!
Earthsong Falls is one of the coolest spots in any dungeon in any game I've ever played.
YES! Its like magic arriving there. Appreciate the comment!
It gives me strong Rayman 2 vibes. I love it.
Honestly, on my old potato of a PC and my 17“ CRT monitor I never looked upwards because the framerate would tank… dunno why. Nice to see the whole thing
I am ashamed to say that I never looked up back in the day. It was in classic that someone told us "hey look up". I just love this game...
Ohhh man, this brought back some memories! We used to get SO lost in here but the Princess boss and big room with waterfalls were so epic. Dungeons were like mini-raids in Vanilla they were so long.

Your presentation is perfect. You actually made me like a dungeon that was a C-tier at best in my mind prior to watching this. Good job!
MARA
This is giving me a bit of Smoke and Mirrors vibes from Hayven Games, and I'm all for it!
RIP Hayven Games
This was so interesting, I never thought about how cool Maraudon actually is since I really only ever played Wrath of the lich king and so I never really got to appreciate the instance because of how random dungeon finder splits it up into Purple, Orange and 'Pristine Waters' where the norm is to just speedrun to the boss that gives you the RDF reward and then leave without exploring the inbetweens of the different areas. Loved this video, definitely want to see more stuff like this with all the huge dungeons from vanilla
I love how you mentioned the details of the quests for the dungeon too!
I'm looking forward you do this with LBRS. That's the most complex multi-level instance.
4:54. I run a lot of D&D, and I gotta say, the worldbuilding and dungeon design of vanilla WoW is some of the best D&D I’ve seen. These stories - like this one about Maraudon - are so cool. would love it if you could do a Wailing Caverns in-game model walkthrough.
My first ever dungeon experience

Definitely my top favorite classic dungeon great video
I love that place. Old-school wow is just awesome. A world to explore, and not just a series of mini-games that you can teleport to
Thank you for this video. Mauradon is my favourite dungeon in the game. It feels mysterious and forgotten, but it's also beautiful and atmospheric. It reminds me of shadow of the colossus, rayman 3, and all that PS2 era goodness.

To answer your question : Yes, this is fun. Make more. (Please c:)
Thanks so much!
At around 3 mins you got me to sub, not only this is an interesting subject the way you explain and show it to us makes it even better
Good stuff, I really enjoyed the editing of 3 video feeds showing different perspectives.
Actually didn't know about the tunnel after Rotgrip, would always hearth, thanks for video!
You bet!

Apart from WoW, that's also interesting from the perspective of mapmaking / gamedev. Good job and thank you!
Love these videos. I'm a computer science nerd and seeing how all this stuff works is great fun.
You could probably teach me about it. Feel free to correct anything I say please!!
I`m just happy that he is actually producing his own content, and not reacting to old stuff like all the other leeches. Ethical man this is
I stole all of this.. jk man, really appreciate the comment; thanks so much!
But if he becomes even remotely successful at youtube then he'll devolve into a reaction channel who complains about the algorithm. Once you find a loyal audience it becomes hard to lose it. Let's hope this never takes off.
Very cool stuff, I'd like to see more Vanilla dungeons in this style of video.
Thank you so much for the feedback. Deadmines and BRD are on my list.

Absolutely fascinating, I love seeing a game that I've spent so much time in be dissected in this way! Please do more!! Subbed :)
Thank you so much man.
Nice to see I’m not the only one who likes these details :))✌️
I think it’s very interesting would love to see more
There really isn’t anything else quite like Maraudon in the game imo, it’s just so uniquely wow to me.
one o my favorite dungeons in clasic, so mystical and uncomprehensive/mysterious, has a strong essence of vanilla wow
On the righthand side, staying on the outside the whole time was a bit confusing. It would be dope if you could poke a hole into the 3rd person outside perspective to see it all from above. Very nice video! Looking forward to BRD and Stratholme videos :>
Awesome stuff dude. glad i clicked the "new to me" tag on yt lol
Amazing analysis! Keep these up, I'm very interested in them.
Great video! please make one with differences between Old Ruins of Andorhal with walls, versus the new one without. I got fond memories early vanilla about the old one. I was really disappointed it was changed.
What an epic suggestion man. Thank you!
I absolutely love this kind of content, have you ever thought of comparing continent sizes?
Thank you so much! Yes, that would be interesting for sure. Adding it to my list of ideas!
i think this is pretty cool. one suggestion i might have is to timestamp longer videos. the chapters might help keep the bounce rate down 🙂
Hey man - THANK YOU - for this tip. You're spot on. Appreciate it very much.
I realy think this is something interesting. I would like to see all inis and raids:)
How massive can this game be 😮
Damn that looks cool. Thanks for the vid. Is this possible with Gnomeregan? I have nightmares of that place..
Gnomer would be awesome! Its definitely possible. I'll add it to the list! Appreciate your watching.
@@720zone Yeah, thanks!
The first time I did this, my guildies kept telling me there was a beautiful princess at the end.
we need more of those
Absolutely fascinating

And maybe have a removable top half of the model section to always be able to see the floor instead of it being hidden by the ceiling and having to clip into it to see.
Both really great suggestions; much appreciated.
The models are very nice. How did you get your hands on them?
I remember the day the Maraudon Patch dropped…. Damn, I am old. I really like those old vanilla dungeons. They feel like an actual dungeon nothing designed for M+
Can you make a tutorial on how you to look at the Instance-Model?
Running this place back in the day would take HOURS, and that's assume that you didn't get lost. Remember, there were no maps of instances back in Vanilla.
good stuff bubba! clean 🔥
go on.
BRD, BRD, BRD!
It def is interesting content 🙂. Thank you for the vid. Def enjoyed it.
Appreciate it very much man, thank you!
👍 Please, give us more nostalgia! ;-)
Maraudon reminds me so much of PS Rayman 2
Damn now i want to play WOW again.
Go for it!
More content like this
This is one of my favorite instances in classic. Sad it is just below the lvl cap, so no endgame content to farm in there. But this is also what it makes so cool. Sort of a lost place in an mmorpg…
Is there a way to remove the ceiling from the model?
This is a great question. In the wow.export program I'm using you can zoom in and out of the model seeing both sides, but there is no way to remove the top, which would be very interesting. You can also export the model into Blender, where you could do any type of edit, removing any portion.
Thank u sir
How long did this dungeon take to complete in vanilla? 😭 just getting through the non-instanced intro area seemed long lol
Too long, this was one of those dungeons I always hated doing :(((
OG wailing caverns.
this would look a lot cooler if you took the roof off the model so we can see the interior as your running through it from a top down angle
Brd, ubrs/lbrs would be great af as well! 😀
3:22 Dude never played vanilla wow it seems xD Back in vanilla wow you could blink through an instance whirl without being teleported.
There was a huge hidden area when you did that in Deadmines and used slow fall, you got to an exploitable area.

Its sad that in SoD this is just an instance that u rush to kill the princess
I like to think that Princess is based on a real life person
the magic of exploring WoW is kinda dead for me, but watching anyways
You can tell someones alliance if they think Maraudon is the most confusing dungeon in classic
Yea, I'm alliance for sure, but need to try to better balanced what I show for Horde friends. I completely botched Horde landmarks in my map video. So is WC the most confusing?
