In 81-82 I worked as a kid for an old fellow that I miss to this day. He had lots of neat old stuff, taught me a lot. One of the things he had was a 1938 Cat R-5 that he called " old Grandma ". It had a pony motor and the big motor was gasoline. We pulled the final and put new sprockets on it. It was hard , hard work. I should have stayed in mechanics, I ended up driving trucks since 83 till now. I always like hanging around shops and learning things... Nice vids.
D6D,one of the finest machines ever built. I learned running tracks on one. We made our own puller with a 100 ton ram and steel offcuts. To be honest we seldom needed a tenth of that to pull them off.
Wow that was very loose! I had one on a D8K that didn’t pop at 100T. Had to wail on it with a sledge and pulling with a 100T on it before it went! And BOY DID IT GO!! Even when your expecting it, still gives you a good Jump! Lol. I just went tonight to look at a D6C, that needs some attention. The right side sprocket is noticeably sitting crooked and leaking oil all over the place. Likely its toast. 😉
cool video Charlie. Looking forward to the rest of the project.
Hello I am interested if you could tell me how can I take out the transmision nave , the one in front of the gearwheel
do you know if they can cnc machine new parts? we have a 1955 d8 were working on and having a hard time finding replacement parts
what kind is this Hydraulic Pump??
Did that once on a d-9k model. We borrowed the press from caterpillar came with everything minus one pin. So we used a grade 8 1" bolt. The bolt failed and broke the ram! So we had to buy them a new cylinder! Moral of the story some of those are in there super tight. The bigger the machine the more it takes to pullem out. Don't use gr8 bolts!
On the older model D3B, and D3B customs, which they were later called D3C,D4C, and D5C, I have knocked the sprocket wheels loose with a 20 pound hammer. Never did disassemble one on a hydro drive, these were the 3F and 3R trans. Little tough on the bearings, but worked. Had a lot more swinging room than on the larger D6 final drives.
If you don't have any luck through Blanchard with used, call CARTER CATERPILLAR in Salem Virginia. Largest CAT graveyard I've ever seen. Good Luck!!!!
Is this the same Blanchard in South Carolina ? Good company, had dealings with them in the past. They leased a whole fleet of equipment for a bridge project in the Lowcountry a number of years ago. That's what made the job so much better at least from an equipment operators prospective.
Now how do you get the new one back on ?
I tried the same method to do similar thing but I am having a hard time. I used a 100 tonner hydraulic jack srill no result. What is the best way to do the job? Thanks.
Where I live we only have one Cat mechanic and he is good at his job. Finning Caterpillar has field mechanics all over the province. The other brands are the same.
What’s the name of this tool???
Is there a pin locking the final drive?
They got the tools, experience, and know how. If it leaks, it's THEIRS to fix.
where do u live?
how much it will coast to get the complete set that tools of hydraulic press with their component.
Charles Masanilo Nyanda over 30,000 easy. They don't give all the threaded adapters away
bei gani kuweza inunua hiyo set ya press kwa kazi za kutolea dead shaft na Sprocket nifahamisheni.
I'm pretty sure he's seen that hub fly off before by the way he got back behind the dozer.......lol
BradyHill1 the spanner nut is still on the bull gear, wouldn't go anywhere, all it's used for is a stop at this point. I've had 175 tons on a sprocket and didn't even wiggle. Only danger here is equipment failure. Such as pin shearing
Sweet
I know this is a rare event for Caterpillar field service people to do, this man is probably the only one in the service department having experience enough to do it at all. My only concern is that his tooling was pressing on the axle instead of the sprocket hub. Pressing on the axle can move the axle in to the machine frame and damage the bore. Cat made tools to do this correctly and I did this job regularly on all the old (new at the time) machines, in my younger days.
I agree, but you press on the bull gear is actually. I've done tons of these.
makes you wonder how bad it could have gone with the way the mechanic was hiding behind the machine.
When it comes to repairing some of the parts it is always better to have the Cat mechanic do the repairs they have the specialized tools to do the job.
My cat service manual says my D 7 C sprockets take 30 tons to push them on
If they press off hard it will get your attention when the POP!
Those heavy equipment mechanics are fucking MEN. I worked on cars and a motorcycle, and was glad to finish the chore. I can imagine having to fix BIG MACHINES one after the next. That takes a certain kind of individual. I'm always glad I don't have to work on something else when I fix it. Although, 30-40 an hour would make me a fixing machine!! They're downright hard workers man.
Por favor para armar el mando final me puede alguien indicar por favor estoy muy lejos solo solamente soy operador pero indicándome puedo hacer por favor cuento con bomba idraulica para meter la rueda del motriz pero no se como funciona esta bomba
Only change seal group its easy, if pin and gear have problems just say DANG😂😂
Didn't even need it.
750 Dozer, good dozer just cant get parts worth a shit!
It is useually cheaper in the long run, But be sure and get the BEST mechanic you can like I did. Hate to say it this way but get references...and I did..Some mechanics are better at diferent things..This man has almost 20 years expierience with Blanchard alone! Top Notch!
interesting.
wow.. the flange was loose.
that was loose as compared to my D8s
Que trabalgo bonito

i don't think that was 60 tons of pressure.
ha! should have tapped it with a rubber mallot came off way to easy
This job very dangerous😅😅 me and my team work with Australian engineering always put blanket reduce the pin break effect, if not it's can fly away more than 50 meter😆 imagine if hit your body🙄🙄🙄😑😑🤐🤐... Every single bearing have pressure limit made other look noob when do this work if don't know the standard pressure on kon and bearing
