What I loved about Exorcist 3 was how William Peter Blatty masterfully worked in some dialogue from the novel of The Exorcist into the third film. There are scenes with Kinderman and Dyer that have dialogue from the first novel that was intended between Kinderman and other characters like Father Karras in the first book, but never made it into the first film. RIP Mr. Blatty. Thank you for writing the novel which inspired the scariest film ever made.
I agree for the R.I.P. and for the novel which inspired the scariest movie ever. For the rest he is just a narcissistic and egocentric piece of shit just like Friedkin. 🤨 This is the reason why David Gordon Green did not want Friedkin to participate in the new EXORCIST project. Ellen Burnstyn and Linda Blair he had no problem with. 🙂
Excellent interview with Blatty. IMO Exorcist III is a wholly excellent film and very under rated. Now I want to find a copy of Blatty's Legion. Koop is also impressive here (who knew? I remember his confirmation hearings were such a horror) and Ed Flanders work was always consummate in any project he was part of. RIP dear gentle Mr. Flanders. A bit of trivia: Jason Miller is the father of Jason Patric (The Lost Boys).

It's actually the direct sequel to the first novel....to each is own but I wholeheartedly disagree...novel and film wise...but I do agree that Exorcist 3 is an criminally underrated movie.
Ed flanders, Dourif and Scott.... What a combination. Experts in the field of acting. Bringing their collective expertise to Blatty, the film was bound to be perfect. The fact its being remade by a substandard director is beyond comprehension.
I don't want to be rude or anything but... it's NOT being remade. Actually it's being discarded. The new trilogy totally omits what happened in THE HERETIC AND EXORCIST 3. Also David Gordon Green did not want any input from Friedkin while he was alive. Unlike the new HALLOWEEN trilogy which he did not mind John Carpenter participating. I wonder why?🤔
