What I loved about Exorcist 3 was how William Peter Blatty masterfully worked in some dialogue from the novel of The Exorcist into the third film. There are scenes with Kinderman and Dyer that have dialogue from the first novel that was intended between Kinderman and other characters like Father Karras in the first book, but never made it into the first film.
RIP Mr. Blatty. Thank you for writing the novel which inspired the scariest film ever made.

I agree for the R.I.P. and for the novel which inspired the scariest movie ever. For the rest he is just a narcissistic and egocentric piece of shit just like Friedkin. 🤨 This is the reason why David Gordon Green did not want Friedkin to participate in the new EXORCIST project. Ellen Burnstyn and Linda Blair he had no problem with. 🙂

Excellent interview with Blatty. IMO Exorcist III is a wholly excellent film and very under rated. Now I want to find a copy of Blatty's Legion. Koop is also impressive here (who knew? I remember his confirmation hearings were such a horror) and Ed Flanders work was always consummate in any project he was part of. RIP dear gentle Mr. Flanders. A bit of trivia: Jason Miller is the father of Jason Patric (The Lost Boys).

@Jason Thompson Wow, wow, wow! What great info. Thank you! She must be very attractive (because IMO Miller and Patric are both extremely so-I'm female, not that it matters really, I guess. I don't remember Gleason much, but the reruns of the Honeymooners (I think? With Art Carney?), anyway, whatever famous series Gleason was in. He terrified me when I was little. To this day I remember how I felt. It's weird, because I have heard that he was actually quite different from the character he played, and a very nice, polished man. Again, thanks! Fun inside info.

I love the relationship between Kinderman and Dyer in this movie! I like everything about this movie, but the banter between these two characters makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it. George C. Scott and Ed Flanders both are such genuine actors ( and seem like honestly decent and intelligent people ), I truly believe in their friendship. It's wonderful.☺

I was 8, I think, when the preview for Exorcist 3 was aired on television. The opening scene in the church, when the statue of Jesus opened his eyes- that was IT!! I Flew up the steps to my mother's room! My grandmother had a shit-ton of religious iconography around her house, and after seeing that ad, I swore that all of her pictures of Jesus were following me with their eyes!! I don't want to be rude or anything but... it's NOT being remade. Actually it's being discarded. The new trilogy totally omits what happened in THE HERETIC AND EXORCIST 3. 3:21 Had the studio not interfered by forcing Blatty on giving the movie "3" in the title yet still keeping "Exorcist" in the title, the movie most likely would've been called "The Exorcist: 1990" with a concept art with the shears, and a crew shirt with this early logo. And it appears this interview mentioned this early title as well.
